Abstract:
This study highlights the mechanisms of the behavioral cycle impact on the cash flows generation. The need to develop original approaches to the analysis of the behavioral cycle associated with the dominant behaviors change demonstrates the relevance of the research. The aim of the study is to determine the mechanism of the behavioral cycle impact on the actions of economic entities. The authors use the method of statistical analysis of the Rosstat data from 1998 to 2018 to test two hypotheses: 1. The behavioral cycle impacts the distribution of household income between consumption, savings, a

The problem of over-investment of free cash flows has been heavily debated in the financial literature of companies. However, only a handful of studies have examined this problem in the context of behavioral finance. The objective of this article is to study the effect of the manager’s overconfidence on the over-investment of the free cash flows. We construct a proxy measure of overconfidence and we use Richardson’s model to measure over-investment expenditure. Our empirical study was conducted on a sample of 150 US companies and for a period from 1995 to 2012. Our results show a positive and

Abstract:
Behavioral finance research stresses the prevalence of overconfidence in capital budgeting practices. To remedy this shortcoming, specifically the upward bias in cash flow forecasts, the extant literature emphasizes the reduction of such forecasts. This paper considers the conditions under which a different adjustment is warranted, namely, an upward correction in the hurdle rate employed to evaluate the project. It is argued here that if adverse events can have a long-term, versus a merely transitory, deleterious effect on the project's cash flows, the second adjustment is appropriate.

Many startups try to pass the transition phase and begin the scale-up phase successfully. However, few are able to survive during this phase. One of the most important factors that can assist these startups in the scale-up phase is managing their financial resource. By doing so, the startups can reduce the consumption of these resources and, at the same time, increase their productivity. Cash flow is considered the pillar of the financial resources in the transition phase, and by managing the cash flow consumption, the probability of surviving in the transition phase will increase. Abstract:
In this paper, the flow properties of several types of liquid passing through various sizes of micro-orifices were investigated. The jet thrust and pressure drops were measured for two polyethylene glycol solutions and four surfactant solutions. Different flow properties were found for the various surfactant solutions depending on the charge of the solute. For an anionic surfactant, the results were similar to those for water, whereas in the case of a cationic surfactant, both the jet thrust and pressure decreased greatly in comparison with the other test liquids. Finally, a nonionic surfactan

The flow behavior of a confined viscoplastic non-Newtonian jet is investigated numerically within the steady laminar flow regime. The Bingham constitutive equation is used to model the rheology of interest. A parametric study is implemented to investigate the influence of confinement ratio and rheology over the following range of parameters: Confinement ratio, CR = {5, 10, 20}, and Yield number, Y = {0, 0.5, 2}. A large corner recirculation region typically characterizes the flow of a confined Newtonian jet. However, in the case of a Bingham viscoplastic jet, once a critical yield number is ex

Interaction between surge behavior and internal flow field under coexisting phenomena of surge and rotating stall was experimentally investigated. In the experiment, the tank pressure of the compressor during surge was measured to detect the effect of the back-pressure fluctuation on the change in the internal flow field. Furthermore, the rotating stall in the compressor was investigated to define the influence of an unsteady internal flow field change on the surge behavior. From the tank pressure measurements, the amplitude of the tank pressure fluctuation was found to vary depending on the c

Inflow conditions influence on the flow behavior of human blood in a separated and reattached flow region is investigated. Hemorheological data that account for the yield stress and shear-thinning non-Newtonian characteristics of blood are used. The governing mass and momentum conservation equations along with the Herschel-Bulkley constitutive equation are solved numerically using a finite-difference scheme. Two inflow velocity profiles are considered, uniform and fully-developed ones. A parametric study is performed to reveal the impact of inflow velocity profile, upstream flow restriction, a

Water resources assessment and protection requires quantitative descriptions of field-scale water flow and contaminant transport through the subsurface, which, in turn, require reliable information about soil hydraulic properties. However, much is still unknown concerning hydraulic properties and flow behavior in heterogeneous soils. Especially, relationships of hydraulic properties changing with measured scales are poorly understood. Soil hydraulic properties are usually measured at a small scale and used for quantifying flow and transport in large scales, which causes misleading results. The

There are many issues to consider when implementing polymer flooding offshore. On the practical side one must handle large volumes of polymer in a cost-efficient manner, and it is crucial that the injected polymer solutions maintain their desired rheological properties during transit from surface facilities and into the reservoir. On the other hand, to predict polymer flow in the reservoir, one must conduct simulations to find out which of the mechanisms observed at the pore and core scales are important for field behavior. Pipeline valve bodies, fittings, flanges, and numerous other components are typically made of cast or forged low-alloy steels. The large wall thicknesses necessitated by the complex shapes of these components usually are not conducive to ductile fracture behavior. Nevertheless, there is a distinct need to have sufficient toughness in such components so that they will not be susceptible to catastrophic failure from defects that may remain after manufacturing and hydrostatic testing. The present practice for controlling toughness in such components consists of specifying arbitrary values of Char

For robust pavement design, accurate damage computation is essential, especially for loading scenarios such as truck platoons. Studies have developed a framework to compute pavement distresses as function of lateral position, spacing, and market-penetration level of truck platoons. The established framework uses a robust 3D pavement model, along with the AASHTOWare Mechanistic–Empirical Pavement Design Guidelines (MEPDG) transfer functions to compute pavement distresses. However, transfer functions include high variability and lack physical significance. Therefore, as an improvement to effecti
