Abstract:
Abstract The first phase of an international collaborative study for standardization of test systems for measuring apolipoprotein (apo) A-I and apo B demonstrated that uniformity of apo A-I and apo B measurements can be achieved if suitable common reference materials are used to calibrate the different systems. The objective of the second phase was to evaluate the linearity and parallelism or proportionality of the candidate reference materials selected in phase one and to determine whether any of them could be proposed as international reference materials. Abstract:
Abstract A turbidimetric immunoassay system (Turbitime system, Behringwerke AG) allows rapid determination of myoglobin in serum. We adapted the reagents for this myoglobin assay (Turbiquant myoglobin) for use with a Hitachi 717 analyzer. No high-dose hook effect was observed up to 15,000 micrograms/L. Interassay CVs were 4.6% (mean = 72.0 micrograms/L; n = 9) and 2.5% (mean = 365.6 micrograms/L; n = 11). The calibration curve was stable for at least 1 month. Hemolysis did not interfere, and turbidity from lipemia interfered only when absorbance exceeded 2.0 A. Results of this method (y) corre

"Thrombolysis in the Management of Lower Limb Peripheral Arterial Occlusion—A Consensus Document fn1fn1This study was supported in part by Abbott Laboratories, Abbott Park, Illinois; Behringweike AG, Marburg, Germany; Boehringer Ingelheim UK, Bracknell, Berkshire, United Kingdom; Boehringer Mannheim AG, Mannheim, Germany; Genentech, Inc., South San Francisco, California; and Knoll AG, Ludwigshafen, Germany. This study was endorsed by the Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiological Society of Europe, Brussels, Belgium; the European Society for Vascular Surgery, Milan, Italy; the Internal Society for Thrombosis and Hemostasis, Chapel Hill, North Carolina; the International Union of Angiology, Lisbon, Portugal; and the Society of Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology, Fairfax, Virginia.aaDisclaimer: This Consensus Document deals with the use of thrombolytic therapy in the management of lower limb ischemia. Much of the discussion centers on published data. However, it is recognized that in clinical practice each case must be considered on its own merits, and that there may be good clinical reasons for adopting a different approach from those included in these guidelines. Participating societies and individuals wish to emphasize that the comments and recommendations in this Document should be taken as a whole and do not necessarily represent the only correct approach to the treatment of individual patients." Abstract:
Since hypertension is generally accepted as a risk factor for atherosclerosis and, on the other hand, alterations in haemostasis were reported in the disease, we focused our interest on two plasma inhibitors-protein C and antithrombin III, which play critical roles in the regulation of blood clotting process. We studied 19 patients with newly diagnosed essential hypertension at ist and 2ncl degreeof the disease (acc.to WHO criteria). Protein C antigen level was measured by means of ELISA Protein C test (Boehringer Mannheim GmbH).AT III and Factor VIII R:Ag concentrations were measured by rocke

Patients with hereditary car acquired cl-inactivator (Cl-INH) deficiency suffer frcm repeated episodes of oedema of the skin and internal organs, which often constitute a threat to life (laryngeal, pulmonary and brain oedama). The treatment which is rapidly effective in the other, much more common, forms of angio-oedema (idiopathic, allergic or anaphylactoid, often associated with urticaria) has little or no effect in these cases. This applies particularly to treatment with antihistamin agents and corticosteroids. However, in patients with hereditary angiooedana (HAE) Danazol is effective for

The relevance of fibrin formation and its stabilization in tumour growth and metastasis formation seems to be important but it still remains unclear. The role of F.XIII in this process may emerge from a variety of mechanisms it is involved in,including crosslink of fibrin molecules,α2AP incorporation into fibrin and reciprocal crosslink of fibronectin, fibrin and collagen. We studied F.XIII and its natural targets such as fibrinogen , fibronectin and α2AP in 61 patients with various inoperable neoplasms (21 with Ca mammae,18 with Ca ventriculi and 22 with Melanoma malignum).F.XIII activity was m

The classic coagulation analyses based on the clot formation present basic disadvantages which make a standardization of reagents difficult. The use of photometry for coagulation methods represents nowadays an important step towards test optimization. We have evaluated a new analytical system (ChromoTimeSystem, Behringwerke AG, Marburg/FRG) based on a special instrument and reagents for photometric tests for coagulation and fibrinolysis. The instrument is a microprocessor-controlled 4-channel-photometer operating at 37°C and connected to a microcomputer. Photometric methods for prothrombin time

Investigations in vitro on the time-dependent increase in thrombin activityand platelet function have been used tocharacterize the kinetics of the clotting process in nonanticoagulated blood. The test procedures described involve great effort and expense and therefore are not suitable for routine tests in pharmacology and clinical pharmacology. The present contribution describes the determination of clotting times in ATP secretion in the Chrono-Log Whole Blood Aggregometer.Blood was taken from healthy donors who had not used any drug in the two weeks before the trial. 0.5 ml blood wereimmediat
