Abstract:
Leadership in start-ups has its specific features, which are connected to a high uncertainty, moving of current boundaries, outstanding adaptability and perseverance of the founder. The main goal of this research paper was to identify the role of founders in successful start-ups. The purpose of this research is to determine whether there are certain common characteristics of successful entrepreneurs- start-up founders. In our analysis, we used the questionnaire- Belbin Full Individual Report. This questionnaire analyses and compares self-evaluation of an examined individual with 360-degree analysis of four members of his team. As a successful start-up we defined a company which fulfilled all of the following conditions: creates a unique scalable product/service, exists on the market 4 to 6 years and is achieving revenues in the amount of the third quartile (Q3) in its industry. To make the analysis comparable, analysed figures are only men. In our research we analysed nine founders and CEOs of start-ups base on a 360-degree evaluation- self-evaluation and evaluation of four members of the team. To view cumulative results, we have used the function boxplot.

Abstract:
The article examines of theoretical approaches to the Belbin Team Roles test – a psychological examining instrument widely used from the eighties of the last century in English-speaking countries by psychologists for professional selection and psychological support of organizational staff, including law enforcement structures. The test is currently considered as one of the most proven psychological examining instrument assessing team roles that a person plays in professional activities. The Belbin Team Roles test was developed on the basis of multi-stage research involving various organizations and teams.Ukraine does not have any Ukrainian-language version of this test, although its structure and diagnostic capabilities allow its usage in different law enforcement agencies. The article reveals the theoretical basis of the Belbin Team Roles test, which is based on an orthogonal model of the interaction of two basic personality scales, according to Eysenck’s theory, - introversion-extraversion and anxiety-stability. The study confirmed the feasibility of carrying out special work to adapt the Belbin Team Roles test into Ukrainian for the needs of the bodies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. This is due to the fact that the tests gives a comprehensive psychological examination of a person's predisposition to perform one or more team roles in a unit – a chief, a planner, a think tank, an evaluator, an investigator, a work addict, a team coordinator and a finisher. The test contains a set of statements, grouped into seven thematic groups; the respondents do not require a significant amount of time to complete the proposed tasks. After test filling by employees of a body of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a psychologist can determine their belonging to a certain personality type, which determines their ability to perform certain roles in a unit; this will help to correctly determine employees’ specializations in a body of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, in a particular law enforcement area, as well as the optimal role in a unit. The authors have convincingly confirmed the expediency of using this test in psychological work with personnel of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, because the test allows complex psychological examination of important social-psychological characteristics and can determine employees’ inclination to perform one of eight key team roles during the professional activities.

Abstract:
The selection process of team leaders is fundamental if the effectiveness of teams is to be guaranteed. Human values have proven to be an important factor in the behaviour of individuals and leaders. The aim of this study is twofold. The first is to validate Schwartz's survey of human values. The second is to determine whether there are any relationships between the values held by individuals and their preferred roles in a team. Human values were measured by the items of the Schwartz Value Survey (SVS) and the preferred roles in a team were identified by the Belbin Self Perception Inventory (BSPI). The two questionnaires were answered by two samples of undergraduate students (183 and 177 students, respectively). As far as the first objective is concerned, Smallest Space Analysis (SSA) was performed at the outset to examine how well the two-dimensional circular structure, as postulated by Schwartz, was represented in the study population. Then, the results of this analysis were compared and contrasted with those of two other published studies; one by Schwartz (2006) and one by Ros and Grad (1991). As for the second objective, Pearson correlation coefficients were computed to assess the associations between the ratings on the SVS survey items and the ratings on the eight team roles as measured by the BSPI.

<p><strong><em>Introduction</em></strong><em>: </em><em>Learning clinical skills in the skills lab gives students the opportunity to learn and practice their clinical skills before examining directly to patients. However, the skills lab itself has many components that require good management and leadership to avoid obstacles or problems in the implementation of learning.</em></p><p><strong><em>Method</em></strong><em>: Literature review conducted through google and google scholar search engines with the keywords “leadership”, “management”, “team”, and “skills lab” from 1985-2015.</em><em></em></p><p><strong><em>Result</em></strong><em>: </em><em>There are several concepts from literature study that can be applied to overcome managerial problems in the skills lab. An effective leader / manager profile according to Quinn (Quinn’s eight roles) is needed in leading the skills lab because the head of the skills lab as the first line manager is responsible for managerial problems in the skills lab. In addition, management and leadership in the skills lab is also very necessary to produce an effective and efficient team so that the performance and contribution of the management team is effective. Abstract:
Background: The Gulf region is notorious for importing Asian laborers for blue-collar work due to the cheap costs associated with it. With many languages and cultural barriers present, understanding the needs of these workers and their preferred methods of communication has proven to be a challenge. Their ways are often misinterpreted, both collectively and individually. From years of observation, these mishaps are primarily due to the lack of understanding and resources available to investigate such issues, especially in masses. Team effectiveness and efficiency depend on numerous factors, such as structure, competencies of team members, commitment, collaboration, support, benchmarks of perfection, and leadership qualities. It is the most important component; the individuals can benefit from an evaluation of how each of their unique characteristics can contribute to the whole. Thus, we investigate the personality type and see if it has an association with their ethnicity, as well as correlations to their individual team roles. Objective: The study aims to find relationships between ethnicity and personality types in order to enhance their value creation in the workplace. Also, if there are correlations between them and team roles, managers will be better equipped when making decisions regarding team building and cohesiveness. Methods: Each participant was given the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) personality type and Belbin team role type computer-based questionnaires. Based on the test results, the participants were divided on the basis of their ethnicity, having one personality among 16 personalities and the team-work role played. The ethnicity, personality type, and the team-work role played were measured in terms of frequency. The hypothesis was tested to determine the relationship among the variables of the study, and cross-tabulation was done among personality and team-work roles to determine the association between them. Results: The test results indicated a significant relationship between ethnicity and personality type, however, personality type and ethnicity do not impact the team role. From the outcome of the research conducted and the use of several types of statistical analysis, it can be concluded that there is a significant relationship between personality and ethnicity type. As observed, the findings are as follows: - Egyptians are primarily (42%) ISTPs and secondarily ENFJs (25%). - In Indians, the most frequent type is ISTJ, with an occurrence of 52%. - Lebanese are most frequently ESTPs (46%). - In Filipinos, the most frequent type is ENFP, with 31%. Although the test results indicated that there is a significant relationship between ethnicity and personality type, however, personality type and ethnicity do not impact the team role. Furthermore, it was observed that ENFP personality types were complete finishers, coordinators and monitor evaluators in a team. ESTP personality types were implementers, team-workers and specialists. ISTP played the role of plant, investigator, or specialist. ISTJ was observed to be shapers. Conclusion: The combined instruments will help break cross-cultural barriers and allow for a better understanding of ethnicity and stigmas, which may subconsciously exist, both projected by the individual and perceived by the receiver.

Abstract:
We discuss the principles of project work of students in a higher educational institution. Examples of teaching students in information specialties are given on the example of the basics of programming and design in the system of higher education in Europe and North America. Roles of distance and traditional education and the choice of individual trajectories in this learning are shown. Particular attention is paid to the description of the game team forms of learning when working in environments of three-dimensional modeling and prototyping. The different roles of the teacher at each stage in all game projects for the construction of complex design details are described. We show examples of the developed design work at the Derzhavin Tambov State University when working with 3D graphics and reducing it to three-dimensional printing, as well as embedding the results of work in sites and blogs and other Web 2.0 resources. The key stages of the team games are presented, including the selection of the team captain using the R. Belbin psychological role test and the professional qualities of students. Such work can be successfully scaled up to all areas of university preparation, as well as to profile areas for students of secondary specialized institutions. It is concluded that the knowledge of three-dimensional modeling and prototyping is consolidated in the course of the final game team work on the construction of a complex structure or a series of architectural structures

Abstract:
Software engineering often requires a team arrangement because of the size and scope of modern projects. Several team structures have been defined and used, but these structures generally define only the tasks and jobs required for the team. Various process and product metrics seek to improve quality, even though it is generally agreed that the greatest potential benefit lies in people issues. This study uses a team-based personality profiling tool, the Belbin Self-Perception Inventory, to explore the characteristics offered by the Company Worker, one of the team roles defined by Belbin.

Abstract:
Software development requires teams due to size, scope, and location of the project. A few software development team structures have been proposed based on tasks and job descriptions, but no team structure or model has been proposed to assemble software development teams based on individual characteristic and trait differences. This thesis presents two studies that support the argument that a new model needs to be developed for assembling software development teams. A roadmap for developing such a model is presented as the response to the inapplicability of applying current models to software development team assembly.

Abstract:
This thesis is written at Örebro University as an ending of the writers’ time at the university. The report examines the problem that temporary project groups does not perform well and has troubles with collaboration. This affects the process of product development projects and can affect the result of the project. This thesis describes how the composition of the project group, with respect to Belbin’s team roles, affects the process of product development projects. The report will also examine if it is possible to find any links between successful product development projects and the composition of the project group. The thesis is based on a literature study that has been combined with interviews at a product development company. By analyzing the data from the interviews and the literature study the writers could see positive effects due to differences in the project groups. By adding a person with the team role Plant to the project group the level of creativity increases, which can improve the result of the project because of better ideas. The writers also found out that if you hold too many strong individuals in a project group it can cause the timeframe and the budget of the project to fail. The strong characters may have problems collaborating, which will create conflicts, causing the project to take longer time than expected.

Abstract:
M.Inf.
Belbin's team role theory is a popular team building tool. This study aims to establish whether Belbin's theory can be meaningfully applied to an information service enterprise. Belbin's team role theory is explained and its uniqueness, when compared with similar theories such as Margerison and McCann's team role theory and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, is highlighted. Belbin's theory is then applied to a team in the Unisa Library to evaluate how the 'end-user', the trainee, views the value of this team role theory. Their views are then evaluated using a research/evaluation questionnaire. The findings are discussed and the conclusion is reached that Belbin's team role theory can be meaningfully applied in an information service enterprise. The feedback of the respondents indicates that they were satisfied with the accuracy and truthfulness of the results and that they were of the opinion that their team roles reflected their personalities rather than their values and culture. For them the main value lies in the renewed self-insight and increased self-confidence gained from the exercise. They also indicated its potential for improved cooperation and problem solving within team context. Furthermore they were confident that the team roles could be used when the reengineering plan is implemented in the Unisa Library. Finally it is recommended that team building needs to form an integral part of the reengineering implementation process. With regard to team development the need to focus on the 'task', 'team', 'individual' and the 'organisational context' is emphasised.

Abstract:
In Software Engineering, personality traits have helped to better understand the human factor. In this chapter, the authors give an overview of important personality traits theories that have influenced Software Engineering and have been widely adopted. The theories considered are Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Big Five Personality Traits, and Belbin Roles. The influence of personality traits has provided remarkable benefits to Software Engineering, especially in the making of teams. For software project managers, it is useful to know what set of soft skills correlates to a specific team role so as to analyze how personality traits have contributed to high performance and cohesive software engineering teams. The study of software engineers’ personality traits also helps to motivate team members. Creating teams that involve compatible individuals, each working on tasks that suit them, and having a motivated team improves team performance, productivity, and reduces project costs.

Abstract:
The Belgian Agendas Project started in 2001 and has been funded by four different research grants. Initially, the Belgian Project used a codebook other than the common CAP codebook widely used right now. The bulk of the data has been coded manually and now mostly covers the 1999–2010 period (with many datasets going back to earlier periods). A peculiarity of the Belgian data is the fact that it comes from two, largely separate political systems that ‘clash’ on the national level. Party and media systems, for example, are entirely separate. The Belgian media agenda is coded particularly extensively, as the Belgian team started from an interest in the media’s effect on politics. The Belgian team has also played a pioneering role in the party manifesto coding and the protest coding.

Abstract:
Abstract Long term storage of plutonium separated from fission products is not a good solution according to the current non-proliferation criteria as well as from an economic point of view. This material has thus to be converted to the equivalent of the “spent fuel standard”. Only one technique has so far reached the industrial maturity necessary to convert the important existing plutonium stockpiles: it is the use of plutonium to manufacture and irradiate MOX fuel. The paper reviews the existing information over the separated plutonium stockpiles and the various International Agreements, which are implemented to cover the peaceful use of plutonium. The dual track solution retained in U.S. in mentioned. The situation U.S. and Russia is updated, the roles of Europe and Belgium are presented. The activities of BELGONUCLEAIRE on the US and Russian sides will be described and its experience in fabrication technology, quality, safety, environmental issues, non-proliferation, safeguards and transport will be considered. The transfer of technology to France, Japan and US makes the MIMAS BELGONUCLEAIRE fabrication process equivalent to an international standard. This forms a sound basis for further development and for a transfer to Russia. The paper will demonstrate by this way the commitment of BELGONUCLEAIRE to participate to the peaceful uses of plutonium, as well as its contribution safely to non-proliferation and disarmament international policy.

In ASME 2013 15th International Conference on Environmental Remediation and Radioactive Waste Management. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2013. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/icem2013-96369.

Abstract:
In Belgium, the long-term management of radioactive waste is under the exclusive competence of the Belgian Agency for Radioactive Waste and Enriched Fissile Materials (knew as ONDRAF/NIRAS). Unlike low-level waste, no institutional policy has yet been formally approved for the long-term management of high level and/or long-lived radioactive waste (knew as B&C waste). In this context, ONDRAF/NIRAS considers the public and stakeholders’ participation as an essential factor in the formulation of an effective and legitimate policy. This is why it has decided to integrate them in different ways during the elaboration of the Waste Plan (ONDRAF/NIRAS-document containing guidelines to make a principled policy decision about nuclear waste management). To do so, social scientists have been regularly mobilized either as external evaluators, follow-up committee members, or participatory observants. Hence, the Waste Plan is only the first step in a long decision-making process. For a PhD student under contract with ONDRAF/NIRAS, this mandate consists of thinking out a way to construct an inter-organizational innovative communication system that would be participative, transparent and embedded in a long-term perspective, thus integrating all the further legal steps to take throughout the decision-making process. In this regard, two paradoxical constraints must be taken into account: on the one hand, my own influence on the legal decision-making process should remain limited, because of a series of constraints, lock-ins and previous decisions which have to be respected; on the other hand, ONDRAF/NIRAS expects the research conclusions to be policy relevant and useful. In this paper, the purpose is twofold. Firstly, the issues raised by this policy mandate is an opportunity to question the performative dimensions of the social scientist in the decision-making process and, more specifically, to have a reflexive view on our position as PhD Student. Secondly, assuming the role of “embarked” social scientist, numerous of answers will discuss to face the different dilemmas of the researcher “in action”. Those reflections follow on, among others, those from previous papers discussed in Quimper in April 2013 [1] and in Leuven in June 2013 [2].

Full text
Abstract:
The Belgian Safety Authorities requested to address the severe accident issue within the periodic safety review of the Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs). The key elements of the approach applied in Belgium include the implementation and the validation of the Severe Accident Management Guidance (SAMG). The present paper focuses on the validation of the SAMG that has taken place during the last four years. The validation process aims at verifying the ability of the Technical Support Center (TSC) to manage severe accidents thanks to the implemented Severe Accident Management Guidance. The validation was practically realized by table-top drills based on Westinghouse Owner’s Group SAMG scenario templates. Eight scenarios were exercised: 7 at full power and 1 at shutdown state. One of the scenarios consists in a fast evolving scenario. This paper details the methodology used for the validation process as well as the feedback of the validation exercises realized in the NPPs. In a first phase the objectives of the exercises were defined in agreement with the Safety Authorities; successively, the exercises were realized in the TSC in presence of the Safety Authorities with the active participation of the members of the crisis team that would be present in the TSC. For each exercise, a scenarist presented the chronology of events until the opening of the SAMG. Then, during the severe accident phase, the scenarist regularly provided the evolution of the parameters and was playing also the role of the control room, if needed. That organization is described and analyzed. Moreover, the paper reports on the general feedback from the exercises and the major findings of the validation. Possible adaptations and improvements of the guidelines have been identified, such as for example additional or alternative entry criteria to the guidelines, priorities definition due to the existence of the safety injection-containment spray connection, evaluation of the application of the WOG SAMG to shutdown states and supplementary information for alternative electrical supply in case of station black-out.
