Abstract Northern Ireland, the United Kingdom’s only self-governing region, recorded year-on- year the worst statistics on health and poverty. However, it was far from certain that the Unionist government in Belfast would enact the kind of sweeping post-war reform that occurred in England and Wales. The raft of legislation governing health and social care introduced in 1948 was, therefore, the product of conditions and circumstances peculiar to Northern Ireland. The government in Belfast needed to overcome the conservative instincts of Ulster Unionism as well as suspicions regarding Clement At

Abstract This chapter explores the contexts and subtexts of a single anonymous nineteenth-century ballad. Set among the hills overlooking the town, ‘Belfast Mountains’ was revised and republished by a host of English and Scottish printers throughout the late-Georgian era. Although, on the face of it, the song tells a maudlin tale of a ‘maid’ and her ‘inconstant’ lover, close analyses of its many editions—engaging with political concerns around commoditization, language standardization, gender, and the Irish nation—reveal a subtle but potent set of historical undercurrents. The interest in turbine rotor inertia reduction is driven by transient loading requirements of turbocharged internal combustion engines, as this is a key factor in the time taken to meet transient engine torque requirements. Due to the high density materials used in turbine rotors, any material removal from the turbine wheel has a significant impact on turbocharger inertia, and thus the transient response of the engine.
