This revision is part of a continuing series of taxonomic work aimed at the description of new taxa and the redescription of known taxa of the Tachinidae of Area de Conservación Guanacaste in northwestern Costa Rica. Here we describe 33 new species in the genus Belvosia Robineau-Desvoidy, 1830 (Diptera: Tachinidae). All species described here were reared from this ongoing inventory of wild-caught caterpillars spanning a variety of families (Lepidoptera: Erebidae, Eupterotidae, Noctuidae, Notodontidae, Saturniidae, and Sphingidae). ABSTRACT Automeris liberia (Lepidoptera: Saturniidae) caterpillars are important defoliators of the African oil palm, Elaeis guineensis (Arecaceae) in Central and South America. The family Tachinidae (Diptera) comprises flies that are parasitoids of many insect pests, mainly from the order Lepidoptera. However, host records for tachinids are still relatively scarce. In the present work, we report the occurrence of Belvosia sp. aff. williamsi (Diptera: Tachinidae: Exoristinae: Goniini) and Leptostylum oligothrix (Diptera: Tachinidae: Exoristinae: Blondeliini) parasitizing caterpillars of A. lib

In the Preface to Tales (1812), Crabbe effectively confirms those judgements by defending his interest in ‘the painful realities of actual existence’ rather than the ‘fairy-land’ of ‘fancy’. In his late poem, ‘Silford Hall; or, The Happy Day’ (composed c. 1822–1824), however, the struggle between matter-of-factness and reverie is less decidedly resolved than Hazlitt—and Crabbe himself—liked to suggest. However, a persistent paradigm governing the understanding of proxy evidence of past human activity on the environment is that human agency is only recognized in proxy data when trends oppose what are expected to occur naturally. Introduction: We aimed to study the association of T1D polygenic score (PS) & C-peptide (C-pep) with the risk of DKA in DECLARE-TIMI 58. Methods: DECLARE-TIMI 58 was a CV outcomes trial of dapagliflozin (DAPA) vs. placebo (PBO) in pts clinically diagnosed with T2D. T1D PS consists of scores based on HLA and non-HLA allele composition. High T1D PS was defined as having both HLA and non-HLA PS within the top tertile. Fasting C-pep <0.4 nmol/L was considered low. Pts were divided into 4 groups based on the presence/absence of high T1D PS and low C-pep. Results: Among 10,956 pts with ge

Introduction: We explored findings associated with the risk of DKA in pts with T2D, with and without dapagliflozin (DAPA). Methods: DECLARE-TIMI 58 was a CV outcomes trial of 17160 pts with T2D randomized to DAPA vs placebo (PBO) with a median follow-up of 4.2 yrs. Pts with known T1D were excluded. DKA events adjudicated as definite or probable were analyzed. Results: DKA occurred in 27/8574 pts (0.31%) in DAPA vs 12/8569 (0.14%) in PBO arm (HR 2.18 [1.10-4.30]). Pts who developed DKA were more likely to be insulin users (82.1% vs 40.8%) and had a longer duration of T2D (14 vs 11 yrs), higher

Should ethical standards be enforced on performers or their critics? Asking such a question may stimulate memories of personal or professional censorship and fearful imaginings of oppressive, fascist regimes. Indeed, many of us might immediately respond by arguing that personal expression should never be inhibited since a person's right to free expression is an essential tenet of a democratic society. Yet this question raises issues that are not easily dismissed and it may remind us that it is equally important to remember that a number of responsibilities and repercussions can accompany the p
