Abstract:
Fifteen permanent bench marks were established east and south of the existing 22 km-long line of 50 bench marks across the Teton normal fault in Grand Teton National Park to compare height changes of Jackson Hole relative to the Teton Range on the west and Shadow Mountain on the east. The new bench marks, together with three other agency bench marks and three temporary bench marks, constitute a 7. 8 km-long extension to the existing line tied to the old line at bench mark GT01. The new bench marks were precisely leveled between 30 August and 5 September 1994. Misclosure of the double-run survey was 0.86 mm, thus the precision of the total survey is 1 part in 10 million. If the misclosure is simply spread equally among the (n-1) bench marks, then the probable error associated with the relative height of a single bench mark is effectively zero.

Abstract:
Initial hydrocarbon discoveries normally lead to a succession of wells on the same or similiar seismic trends, sometimes with a succession of dry holes. The problem posed is, given some initial success, to what extent can seismic be used to predict lithology and prevent these occurrences. Satellite technologists already utilize similar methods to quickly identify similar terrain features using an image 'bench mark', and multiple signals. The bench mark for the seismic interpreter is the well, and the multiple signals are the seismic attributes. The tool used to bring these together is the interpretation workstation. A demonstration of the technique on synthetic data displays good results, dependent on several factors. Future work will be directed at evaluating the method on field data and together with other lithology prediction methods.

Abstract:
The vehicle routing problem with delivery and pick-up service was considered in this paper. A tabu search was proposed to determine the optimal set of routes to totally satisfy both the delivery and pick-up demand. Performances are compared with other heuristics appeared in the literature recently by the bench-mark data sets. The computational results show that the proposed approaches produce high quality results within a reasonable computing time.

Welcome to the first issue of our first three-issue volume of Projections. We begin this issue with a truly exciting collaboration between a filmmaker (and scholar), Karen Pearlman, and a psychologist, James E. Cutting. Cutting and Pearlman analyze a number of formal features, including shot duration, across successive cuts of Pearlman’s 2016 short film, Woman with an Editing Bench. They find that the intuitive revisions that Pearlman made actually track a progression toward fractal structures – complex patterns that also happen to mark three central pulses of human existence (heartbeat, breathing, walking).

Further, different aspects of our proposed "Artificial endocrine system for knowledge discovery" (AESKD) have been compared with state of art classifiers e.g., support vector machine, neural network, radial basis function (RBF) network and K-NN for some bench mark datasets.

These photographs have been used for updating information on West Greenland glacier changes and the history of West Greenland glacier surges. Those covering East Greenland have been used for location of importantcentres of surging glaciers.

Abstract:
A novel polar angular quadrature set called the Kim-Jevremovic polar angular quadrature set is derived for the method of characteristics. It is based on neutron anisotropic scattering cross-sections in the Evaluated Nuclear Data File. This new set is implemented within the state-of-the-art neutron transport code AGENT and tested in comparison to MCNP6 as well as to other known quadrature sets for the UO2 unit cells, the well-known C5G7 benchmark, unreflected cylinders of uranyl-fluoride solutions in heavy water, and the University of Utah 100 kWth TRIGA MARK-I reactor core. These comparisons show that the newly proposed polar angular quadrature set provides better agreements than other quadrature sets for the lower order of anisotropic scattering expansions. This paper presents a complete derivation of the Kim-Jevremovic polar angular quadrature set and the analysis for the mentioned bench-mark examples.

Abstract:
In this paper we consider heat transfer in a wall with temperature dependent heat conductivity and internal heat generation. It turns out the model considered is non-linear. We employ the classical Lie point symmetry analysis to determine the exact solutions. A number of cases for thermal conductivity and internal heat generation are considered. In some cases the exact solutions are not possible to construct. However, we first use the obtained exact solution as a bench mark for the quasilinear method. Since confidence is established, we then use the quasilinear method to solve some other applicable problem.

Abstract:
Experiments were conducted on 7 simply-supported composite steel-concrete beams (SCB) with compact steel sections to investigate their interface mechanic behavior. The influences of different loading mode, degree of shear connection and stud arrangement are discussed. The test process, specimen failure matter and uplift distribution along the span of the beam are analyzed. Based on the experimental research, the formulae are derived for the interface slip and uplift rigidity of the stud in composite steel-concrete beams. The present values bench-mark finite element analysis of load bearing capacity and deflection of composite steel-concrete beams.

This paper presents our work on automated classification of Mobile Laser Scanning (MLS) point clouds of urban scenes with features derived from cylinders around points of consideration. The core of our method consists of spanning up a cylinder around points and deriving features, such as reflectance, height difference, from the points present within the cylindrical neighbourhood. Crucial in the approach is the selection of features from the points within the cylinder. An overall accuracy could be achieved, exploiting two bench mark data sets (Paris-rue-Madame and IQmulus & TerraMobilita) of 83 % and 87 % respectively.

Studied herein is the dynamic behavior of a circular thin plate traversed by a moving mass. The spatial domain is discretized by a series of the plate natural shape functions. A novel effective computational optimization is developed in the mathematical definition of the moving mass and its substructure interaction. The efficiency and the accuracy of the optimized method are evaluated and several bench mark solutions are represented. The utilization of the optimized method in the numerical model is observed to considerably suppress the computational efforts. Thus, the technique can highly facilitate the voluminous parametric studies for engineering practitioners.
