In 2020 COVID-19 and continuous lockdowns rapidly increased tertiary educational organisations’ interest in online education and student engagement techniques that effectively work for both blended and online delivery modes. Organisations that used to rely heavily on face-to-face delivery started experimenting with activities in their learning management systems to adapt their education methodology to the new realities, and Otago Polytechnic Auckland International Campus was among them. The popular Knuth-Bendix simplification ordering is parameterized by symbol precedence—a permutation of the predicate and function symbols of the input problem’s signature. Abstract Ever since it was recognized that synaptic plasticity could be a basic correlate of learning and memory, “growth theories” have dominated this field of research (see McGeer, Eccles, & McGeer, 1978, chapter 15; Rosenzweig, M0llgaard, Diamond & Bennet, 1972). It appears to be common intuition that storage of new information in the brain should correspond to some “additive process” at the substrate level, anything from synaptic strengthening to formation of new synapses.
