Abstract:
In this study, we analyzed mitochondrial COI gene sequences to reveal genetic diversity, population structure and demographic history of two Bangladeshi (BD) populations (SB and CK) of the orange mud crab Scylla olivacea of the Northern Bay of Bengal (BoB), and compared these two with other four populations in the Northern Indian Ocean region (Arabian Sea, Andaman Sea and Malacca strait) and South China Sea. For all of the populations, nucleotide diversities were low (0.005–0.01) while the haplotype diversities were as high as 0.70–0.96, indicating that the S. olivacea has undergone a recent p

Abstract:
Tea is the most popular non-alcoholic beverage crop in the world, which originated in China and has been cultivated in over 45 countries. In recent years, a leaf spot disease of unknown etiology has been observed on young leaves of tea trees (Camellia sinensis) grown in Luotian county, Hubei Province, China. Observed symptoms display grayish brown to white spots (about 1 cm in diameter) surrounded by brown edges. Over 20% of the young leaves were affected on surveyed trees. To identify the pathogen, six symptomatic tea leaves were collected from six individual tea trees of unknown variety in A

<strong>ABSTRACT</strong> Present study aims to analyze the arsenate bioaccumulation and antioxidant defense responses in fronds of terrestrial fern <em>Ampelopteris prolifera</em> (Retz.) Copel and an aquatic fern <em>Azolla pinnata</em> R. Br. Both the ferns were exposed to increased concentrations of sodium arsenate (As; 0, 20, 60, 100, and 160 mg L-1) with Hoagland nutrient solution. Shoot dry weight reduced in both ferns at 160 mg As L-1 with higher decline in <em>A. pinnata</em> than <em>A. prolifera</em>. Fronds accumulated considerably higher As than roots but, co

<strong>Abstract</strong> It is a well-known fact that indoor exposure to biomass fuel smoke is associated with oxidative stress which in turn is responsible for many health damaging conditions. We sought out to find the association of exposure to biomass smoke with anthropometric indices and marker of oxidative stress. We compared serum ischemia modified albumin and anthropometric indices in 36 women who have been using biomass fuel and &nbsp;36 women who have been using liquefied pressure gas (LPG) for at least five years. Ischemia modified albumin was measured through the calorimetric metho
