El artículo hace primero algunas consideraciones en torno al apellido Moreno y su adscripción a diversos personajes en un sentido, o estilo, jocoserio en el Quijote y en Quevedo, en relación con la llamada “burla de los linajes”, la etimología del apellido y la compraventa de títulos y honores. "La Noche de San Daniel" se refiere a los trágicos sucesos ocurridos en Madrid en abril de 1865, tras una protesta estudiantil que provocó la caída del gobierno de Narváez y precipitó la revolución de 1868. El suceso histórico de "La Noche de San Daniel" constituye un capítulo importante de la historia de España del siglo XIX.
