Abstract:
Abstract: The article proposes a cross-reflection between Walter Benjamin and Robert Walser and finds its first intersection in the micrographs produced by them. Among the many objects collected during his lifetime, Benjamin seems to have had a special appreciation for children’s books, miniatures and toys. This interest in small items was also manifested in the extreme smallness of his handwriting and in the desire to write one hundred lines in a conventional-size paper – this last one achieved by Walser, who wrote microtexts in a miniscule handwriting and was also the subject of a short essay Benjamin wrote in 1929. If, on the one hand, the miniaturized handwritings of both Benjamin and Walser point to a manner of writing that seems to encrypt the content of texts, on the other hand, the micrographies constructed by both men state a mutual interest in hiding amongst the textual mesh through the suppression of the self in writing. One can, still, liken the miniaturized handwriting with the universe of childhood, be it by the character of the child or the character of the so-called underdog (both present in the works of Walser) or by the protagonism that a childhood-as-Denkbird (image of thought) assumes in Benjamin’s work. Based on these elective affinities, the article seeks to show the miniaturization as a writing procedure employed by both Benjamin and Walser, and it will do so by establishing parallels between the micrographs of the latter and the analytical-speculative commentaries present in Benjamin’s essays and in Walser’s tales. Keywords: Walter Benjamin; Robert Walser; writing; miniaturization; childhood.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Robert Kaufman (Stanford University) challenges trends in recent criticism that have tended to present and apply Walter Benjamin's and Theodor Adorno's theories and practices of the constellation and force-field as if these last stemmed primarily from interventionist Left critique of the aesthetic and the literary. Kaufman's essay “Lyric's Constellation, Poetry's Radical Privilege” shows that on the contrary, Benjamin and Adorno - while certainly holding no brief for “pure” formalist methodology - actually develop the constellation and force-field in urgent response to a kind of Left criticism that sloganeeringly maintains that works of art and culture are historically and sociopolitically determined.

Abstract:
This essay attempts to differentiate three different kinds of spatial-atmospheric experience on the basis of the theories by Hermann Schmitz and Robert Vischer. Furthermore, it connects these methods to the figure of the flaneur in Walter Benjamin's Passages as well as in the late Turin diaries of Friedrich Nietzsche. These two concepts of the flaneur can be seen as antithetic. For Walter Benjamin city strolling is a means of intellectual stimulation, focusing on impulses from the urban landscape that are then interwoven in associative, oscillating streams of thought, often commenting on the city stroller as an actor in a capitalist society. In contrast, Friedrich Nietzsches experience of architectural space can be seen as a full synthesis of inner life and outer experience, thought and motion intertwine, facilitating a new creative disposition and state of mind.

Abstract:
The purpose of the present study is to analyze the relations between subjectivity and urban space through the novel Jakob von Gunten by Robert Walser. The novel develops a tension between, on the one hand, an institute of teaching and a form of subjectivity understood as private and normative interiority, and, on the other, the city as a space of the multiple and the unrepresentable and a form of subjectivity understood as intimacy The secret. The tension between both space-subject relations supposes a peculiar version of the dialectic between modernization and modernity as Benjamin or Kracauer relate it, and allows to think alternative and superposed forms of conceiving the subjectivity and the space from different readings of a text.

The necklace, though unique, is in Ethiopia’s necklace tradition; and utilizes the country’s three main traditional types of jewellery: silver caskets, silver filigree, and glass beads. Abstract:
The chroniclers of the Fourth Crusade (Geoffroi de Villehardouin, Henri de Valenciennes, and Robert de Clari) have much to say about the Vlachs. Much of that information results from direct contact with the Vlachs, particularly in the case of Villehardouin and Henri de Valenciennes. However, several issues characterizing the Vlachs, especially in Robert de Clari’s chronicle, are remarkably similar to stories that may be found in Niketas Choniates. The paper analyzes the role attributed to the Vlachs in the French chronicles, and attempts to explain the similarity to the coverage of things Vlach in Niketas Choniates. As such, the paper offers an examination of all Byzantine sources mentioning the Vlachs before Choniates and of non-Byzantine sources such as Benjamin of Tudela. The conclusion is that the image of the Vlachs in the French chronicles derives from stories about them circulating in twelfth-century Constantinople.

Abstract:
With one minor exception, it was not much more than a series of coincidences which linked Jowett and Colenso. The one exception was when Colenso was in England after being excommunicated by Robert Gray, bishop of Capetown, as metropolitan. Samuel Wilberforce refused to allow Colenso to function in the diocese of Oxford but Jowett invited him to preach in Balliol chapel, which was not under the bishop's jurisdiction. Apart from this there seems to be no evidence of direct personal contact between the two men.
