Abstract:
This paper describes an analysis of the three U.S. 2016 presidential debates published in The New York Times using Benoit’s (2007a) functional theory. The three presidential debates in the U.S., which occur every four years, remain as the most sensitive political rhetoric that lead to the election of the next U.S. President. These debates include discussion of different issues between the two presidential candidates. One of these issues is immigration. The U.S. presidential debates have been researched by many on various aspects but there has not been a study that focus primarily on the issue of immigration in the three 2016 U.S. presidential debates. All statements regarding this issue between the two presidential candidates, Trump and Clinton, were extracted from these debates and analyzed using Benoit's (2007a) functional theory. Findings revealed that attack statements occurred more than acclaims, and defences were less used than acclaims. The statements included in these debates pertained to policy (30%) and character (70%). As expected, general goals were employed more often using acclaim function rather than attack and defend. However, ideals were employed more often using defence than to acclaim and attack. Due to different contexts, situations, and participants, Benoit's (2007a) functional theory may not be generalized for all debates. This study reveals certain inconsistencies regarding some of the hypotheses of Benoit's (2007a) functional theory in relation to our knowledge of the presidential debates, specifically the issue of immigration.

Abstract:
An organization’s initial response to a crisis can dictate the tone of its sustained response throughout the crisis, as well as stakeholders’ reactions to the incident. When news of the deaths of professional wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife, and their 7-yr-old son broke, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) immediately paid tribute to the superstar. A memorial show to Benoit’s career aired as investigators searched the family’s home. The investigation revealed that Benoit murdered his wife and son before taking his own life, resulting in WWE’s retraction of its earlier tributes. Furthermore, the organization had to respond to the swarm of speculation that steroids—and WWE’s lax policy on their use—were to blame. This case study analyzes WWE’s immediate response strategies to their employee’s family’s deaths and the subsequent strategies used on learning that the employee was implicated. Qualitative analysis of corporate documents and official statements seeks to provide direction regarding how similar organizations should respond in the days immediately after tragic events when employees may be implicated.

Abstract:
The main goal of this paper is to revise the Dissomphalus genus within the Afrotropical region. Specimens were collected across seventeen countries: Benin, Botswana, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Gabon, Guinea, Kenya, Mozambique, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. A total of 127 species have been identified in the Afrotropical region. Thirteen of these species have been previously described, namely: D. adscitus Benoit, D. alberti Benoit, D. babaeculus (Benoit), D. clibanarius Benoit, D. crucialis Benoit, D. forchhammeri (Krombein), D. globiceps Benoit, D. indeceptilis Benoit, D. matticus (Benoit), D. nicaeus Benoit, D. prophylax Benoit, D. rwindianus Benoit and D. tridentatus (Kieffer). Additionally, we propose D. kiefferi Benoit syn. nov. as a junior synonym of D. matticus and D. orophilus Benoit syn. nov. as a junior synonym of D. adscitus. Furthermore, this study introduces 114 new species for the Afrotropical region. We also provide an updated key for both females and males in this region.

Abstract:
In general, former prisoners want to participate socially so that their status is the same as that of other members of society. However, in reality, they often face social discrimination and negative stigma from their environment. This research question is: What is the message from former convicts in drug cases in the strategy to restore self-image in Central Aceh Regency? This research uses qualitative methods to obtain in-depth and natural data. Image Restoration Theory by William L. Benoit's is used as an analytical perspective. The research informants were four former drug convicts who had been socially reintegrated according to certain criteria. Data collection was carried out using unstructured interviews. Research data was analysed using the interactive model by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana. This study found that the informants use a transcendental-multi-step flow communication model in their image restoration strategies. The messages used by informants in image restoration include the five strategies offered by Benoit. However, corrective action and mortification are important strategies in this case. The corrective action strategy is not just about being "clean" from drugs but also about making positive changes in various aspects, such as relationships, work, and religious practice. Apart from having a cognitive consonance effect, the mortification strategy can also repair damaged relationships. Through corrective action and mortification strategies, former prisoners build an image called the "image of repentance".

Ceulemans, Adelheid.

Abstract:
(“As for the poem, judging it is not our job”.) The literary reception of the oratorio De oorlog (The War) (1873, Peter Benoit & Jan Van Beers) in the Flemish periodicals of the nineteenth centuryIn 1869, the poem De oorlog (“The War”) appeared in Gevoel en Leven (“Feeling and Life”),the third collection of poetry from Jan Van Beers. In 1873, the oratorio of the same name – a composition of Peter Benoit based on the text of Van Beers – premiered in Antwerp. It is striking that the reviews of De oorlog discuss primarily Benoit’s composition, with little to no treatment of Van Beers’s libretto. That the focus was solely on music in musical periodicals is obvious. However, in the many literary periodicals of the nineteenth century as well as in more general cultural periodicals, the poem De oorlog received little attention, either as a part of Gevoel en Leven or as the textual basis for the oratorio. In this article Adelheid Ceulemans researches the reception of De oorlog in Flemish perio-dicals from the nineteenth century. The research is richly detailed with historical information about the oratorio, such as its origin and creation, and about the functionality of Van Beers’s text and libretto and poem. It also introduces a concise literary-textual analysis of the libretto, as well as a biographical sketch of Van Beers, based in part on previously-unused archival material. In the conclusion Ceulemans tries to provide an explanation for the marginal literary interest in De oorlog in nineteenth-century reviews. In doing so, the function of literature and music in Flemish cultural nationalism of the nineteenth century is taken into consideration.

Abstract:
AbstractThe main part of the material treated in this paper comes from the Granitic Seychelles but samples from the four following atolls: Aldabra, Assumption Atoll, Poivre Atoll, and Farquar Atoll have also been included. Previously 24 species were reported from Seychelles (Benoit 1979, Saaristo 1999). In this paper 9 species are recorded as new to Seychelles and all of them are also new to science: Cousinea keelei gen. n., sp. n., Silhouettella assumptia sp. n., Farqua quadrimaculata gen. n., sp. n., Lionneta gerlachi sp. n., Opopaea probosciella sp. n., Ischnothyreus serpentinum sp. n., Matyotia tetraspinosus gen. n., sp. n., 'Orchestina' maureen sp. n., and 'Orchestina' justini sp. n.. In addition 7 new genera are created: Cousinea gen. n. (type species: Cousinea keeleyi sp. n.), Farqua gen. n. (type species: Farqua quadrimaculata sp. n.), Prida gen. n. (type species: Gamasomorpha sechellensis Benoit, 1979), Patri gen. n. (type species: Gamasomorpha david Benoit, 1979), Lisna gen. n. (type species: Gamasomorpha trichinalis Benoit, 1979), Ischnothyrella gen. n. (type species: Ischnothyreus jivani Benoit, 1979), and Matyotia gen. n. (type species: Matyotia tetraspinosus sp. n.). Also the following synonyms have been established: Opopaea lena Suman, 1965 = Gamasomorpha ladiguei Benoit, 1979 syn. n. = Opopaea mortenseni Brignoli, 1980 syn. n.; Ischnothyreus peltifer (Simon 1891) = Ischnothyreus omosus Suman, 1965 syn. n. = Ischnothyreus formusus Brignoli, 1974 syn. n. Further four new combinations have been presented: Gamasomorpha loricatula (Roewer, 1942) = Silhouettella loricatula (Roewer, 1942) comb. n., Silhouettella mahei (Benoit, 19479 = Pelicinus mahei (Benoit, 1979) comb. n., Ischnothyreus orophilus Benoit, 1979 = Lionneta orophila (Benoit, 1979) comb. n., and Oonops savyi Benoit, 1979 = Lionneta savyi (Benoit, 1979) comb. n. Three of the new species for Seychelles have been found only on the atolls. The total number of the Oonopidae of the Granitic Seychelles is now 30 species. The importance of this family on the Granitic Seychelles is reflected by the fact that some 16% of all known spiders living there are oonopids.

Abstract:
Twelve species of Xorides Latréille, 1809 are recorded from the Afrotropical region, three species described as new: X. nigrithorax sp. n., X. rufofacialis sp. n., and X. simoni sp. n. The males of X. maculiceps (Cameron, 1906) and X. praestans (Tosquinet, 1896) are described for the first time. The following synonymies are established: X. maculiceps (Cameron, 1906) = X. maculatus (Benoit, 1952) syn. n.; X. aciculatus (Benoit, 1952) = X. similis (Benoit, 1952) syn. n. Xorides serratitibia (Enderlein, 1914) is placed as incertae sedis. A key to the Afrotropical Xorides species is provided.

Abstract:
Abstract:

The critical review of the album “The Book World of Alexandre Benoit: Sketches of a Researcher and a Collector” (Moscow, 2023) by well-known bibliophile, academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, the leader/chairman of Council of the National Union of Bibliophiles M.V. Seslavinsky is presented. The review reveals the aims and purposes of popularizing of various artistic career and activities of A. Benoit in the book sphere, undertaken in the album. It is shown that this edition in many senses fells out the scope of the scientific and popular type declared by the compilator and represents full-fledged scientific research of the history of book design on the example of A. Benoit. The high rating is given both to the editorial and publisher’s presentation and artistic book design of this edition.

Abstract:
This research aimed to identify Indonesian National Police (Polri) strategy in carrying out image restoration in the Ferdy Sambo case. The case of Ferdy Sambo attracted substantial public attention throughout the end of 2022 because it involved members of the National Police in criminal acts. This incident undermined the image and reputation of the National Police as a state apparatus whose function is to maintain security and order. Furthermore, the case of Ferdy Sambo has implications for a communication crisis along with reports in the media that involve many parties as sources so that it brings speculation on the image of the Police. A communication strategy to restore the image was required in crisis communication management, especially in the early period of the crisis in order to maintain the organization's reputation. This research used a qualitative approach with qualitative content analysis as the method. This study used William Benoit's strategy formulation as divided image restoration strategies into five categories: "Denial, Evading Responsibility, Reducing offensiveness of events, Corrective action, and Mortification". The findings showed that the Polri image restoration strategy at the beginning of the Ferdy Sambo case was reducing the offensiveness of the event which consisted of bolstering followed by corrective action, while the combination of strategies practice was bolstering, differentiation, compensation, and corrective action in the post-initial case. The image restoration strategy used in the clarification meeting with Commission III of the DPR RI was to assume the crisis as an accident, bolstering, corrective action and mortification. This study found another strategy in the data as the trait of the qualitative content analysis required interpretation, apart from the strategy described by Benoit, namely hierarchical power at the beginning of the crisis, authoritative support in the post-crisis beginning and continuous improvement in the clarification meeting with Commission III of the DPR RI. The organization's power relations with the public and stakeholders determine the rhetoric and various strategies in crisis communication.

Abstract:
We appreciate the positive reception of our transformation by Benoit and Laver (hereafter, BL), and we are grateful that they have incorporated it into the Wordscores package. Because their comment highlights a fundamental difference between the Martin-Vanberg (MV) and Laver-Benoit-Garry (LBG) approaches that is critical to the choice among transformations, we offer some brief comments that will allow users to make an informed decision regarding the appropriate use of the transformations. The central issue concerns comparisons between reference and virgin texts. As BL point out, researchers will often be interested in making such comparisons, and the LBG and MV transformations can yield substantially different results. In light of these differences, BL's primary suggestion is to focus analysis on the raw scores, which can be obtained for reference as well as virgin texts. We wholeheartedly agree with this prescription. In fact, it is precisely a concern for faithfully reporting the raw score information, while making it more intuitive, that motivates the MV transformation. As we show below, the MV transformation accurately reflects all and nothing but the information contained in raw scores. Therefore, “users [who] get eye strain” by looking at raw scores can safely substitute MV scores and be confident that the information provided is equivalent. The same will typically not be true of LBG scores.

The female and male of Sclerogibba berlandi Benoit, 1963 (Hymenoptera: Sclerogibbidae), collected in Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) and characterized by a pronounced sexual dimorphism, were associated for the first time by mitochondrial COI sequences. A comparison with COI sequences of S. crassifemorata Riggio & De Stefani-Perez, 1888 and S. talpiformis Benoit, 1950 from Abu Dhabi proved the diversity of S. berlandi.
