Seven specimens of the family Benthimermithidae from the Clarion-Clipperton Fracture Zone (Eastern Tropic Pacific), from the depths 4,800–5,040 m, were examined. Bathynema nodinauti gen. et sp. n. is described. The new genus differs from other genera of Benthimermithidae by the presence of an inner pharyngeal lumen. Four new species of Trophomera are also described. Body length of female of T. elegantis sp. n. approximately 1.5 mm; body cylindrical, anterior and posterior ends in shape of rounded cone; cephalic setae 2.0–2.5 μm long; trophosome consisting of 1 row of cells; female reproductive

Abstract The type species of Trophomera, T. iturupiensis, is redescribed from type material and important errors in the original description corrected. As a result of this emended description, Benthimermis is proposed as a junior synonym of Trophomera and its species transferred accordingly. The family name Benthimermithidae is retained according to articles 23.1 and 40.1 of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. Trophomera is diagnosed and an annotated list of nominal species presented. Trophomera litoralis sp. n., collected from the tidal zone of Ushishir Island (Kuril Archipelag

AbstractFree-living adult stages of Benthimermis megala Petter, 1987, the biggest species (body length 78 - 148 mm) of the genus, have been found in bottom sediments of the deep-sea off the Norway coast and studied histologically. The head region includes six subcuticular sensilla, four minute cephalic setae and pore-like amphids. Numerous tiny sensilla are distributed throughout the lateral sides of the body. An axial spine is present on the posterior body terminus. Hypodermal glands are associated with the somatic sensilla. There are eight chords in the hypodermis. Mouth opening is absent. V

Abstract:
Rhaptothyreus is arguably the most enigmatic nematode taxon due to a combination of unusual morphological features (e.g., large feather-like amphids, vestigial mouth, trophosome, single spicule), unclear phylogenetic relationships (possible affinities with the Enoplida, Mermithida and Benthimermithida) and a distribution restricted to the deep sea. Here I provide the first record of the genus in the Western Pacific Ocean and describe new morphological features of a moulting juvenile. This specimen is characterised by features that differ markedly from the adults, the most prominent being the a
