Abstract:
This paper focuses on the British marine transport services in the Niger-Benue confluence area of Nigeria during the First World War. It posits that the flow of the Benue River through the Northern Nigeria/Cameroon border was a major way through which the British war resources were conveyed from the Niger-Benue confluence area to the battlefronts against the German Cameroon. The paper claims that the British authorities used lies as strategy by painting the Germans as land grabbers to get the locals’ commitment and support during the war at the expense of marine transport services. Abstract:
The river Benue is vulnerable to flood risks, partly due to the release of water from the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon into Nigeria, as well as high precipitation, resulting in substantial damage and economic losses. Improved flood event prediction is crucial for decision-makers and the population to effectively plan strategies for reducing flood-related losses. This paper presents a comparative study using time series SARIMA and decision tree models applied to monthly water level data for 2011-2016 from Ibi, Makurdi, and Umaisha water stations on the river Benue. Introduction: Rift Valley fever (RVF) is a zoonotic disease caused by RVF virus (RVFV) and transmitted primarily by mosquitoes and contact with fluids and tissues of infected animals. First described in Kenya, it has spread to many African countries and beyond. In humans, it is sometimes misdiagnosed because the symptoms resemble those of influenza and/or malaria. Butchers, abattoir workers, and livestock keepers have the highest risk of infection.
Methodology: In this study, serum samples collected between February and September 2019 from 196 individuals comprising of butchers (n = 121)

Abstract:
Like most other countries of Africa, one of the main problems threatening effective impact modelling in Nigeria including Upper Benue river basin, dwells in lack of high-quality in-situ observation datasets at appropriate spatiotemporal scales. Gridded meteorological variables can serve as promising alternatives to in-situ measurements in data sparse regions, but then, require validations to assess quantitatively their level of accuracies and reliabilities. As a consequence, this study makes comparative analysis of two gauge-based, spatially interpolated surface atmospheric temperature dataset

In developing regions missing data are prevalent in historical hydrological datasets, owing to financial, institutional, operational and technical challenges. If not tackled, these data shortfalls result in uncertainty in flood frequency estimates and consequently flawed catchment management interventions that could exacerbate the impacts of floods. This study presents a comparative analysis of two approaches for infilling missing data in historical annual peak river discharge timeseries required for flood frequency estimation: (i) satellite radar altimetry (RA) and (ii) multiple imputation (M

Schistosomiasis is one of the leading neglected tropical diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. Recorded case numbers of this chronic and debilitating helminth disease indicate Nigeria to be the most endemic country within this region. National control efforts have focused intensively on restricting human contact with freshwater sources of intermediate host snails. However, limited attention has been paid to the role of livestock as reservoir hosts and the prevalence of transmission of schistosomes to humans via farmed animals.
