Abstract:
Often predictor variables in regression models are measured with errors. This is known as an errors-in-variables (EIV) problem. The statistical analysis of the data ignoring the EIV is called naive analysis. As a result, the variance of the errors is underestimated. This affects any statistical inference that may subsequently be made about the model parameter estimates or the response prediction. In some cases (e.g. quadratic polynomial models) the parameter estimates and the model prediction is biased. The errors can occur in different ways. These errors are mainly classified into classical (i.e. occur in observational studies) or Berkson type (i.e. occur in designed experiments). This thesis addresses the problem of the Berkson EIV and their effect on the statistical analysis of data fitted using linear and nonlinear models. In particular, the case when the errors are dependent and have heterogeneous variance is studied. Both analytical and empirical tools have been used to develop new approaches for dealing with this type of errors. Two different scenarios are considered: mixture experiments where the model to be estimated is linear in the parameters and the EIV are correlated; and bioassay dose-response studies where the model to be estimated is nonlinear. EIV following Gaussian distribution, as well as the much less investigated non-Gaussian distribution are examined. When the errors occur in mixture experiments both analytical and empirical results showed that the naive analysis produces biased and inefficient estimators for the model parameters. The magnitude of the bias depends on the variances of the EIV for the mixture components, the model and its parameters. First and second Scheffé polynomials are used to fit the response. To adjust for the EIV, four different approaches of corrections are proposed. The statistical properties of the estimators are investigated, and compared with the naive analysis estimators. Analytical and empirical weighted regression calibration methods are found to give the most accurate and efficient results. The approaches require the error variance to be known prior to the analysis. The robustness of the adjusted approaches for misspecified variance was also examined. Different error scenarios of EIV in the settings of concentrations in bioassay dose-response studies are studied (i.e. dependent and independent errors). The scenarios are motivated by real-life examples. Comparisons between the effects of the errors are illustrated using the 4-prameter Hill model. The results show that when the errors are non-Gaussian, the nonlinear least squares approach produces biased and inefficient estimators. An extension of the well-known simulation-extrapolation (SIMEX) method is developed for the case when the EIV lead to biased model parameters estimators, and is called Berkson simulation-extrapolation (BSIMEX). BSIMEX requires the error variance to be known. The robustness of the adjusted approach for misspecified variance is examined. Moreover, it is shown that BSIMEX performs better than the regression calibration methods when the EIV are dependent, while the regression calibration methods are preferable when the EIV are independent.

Major problem of current built form of a church is that it is built mostly in a liturgical form to serve sacred ordinances that does not address the importance of activities among the members. Church has turned into a liturgical space only to serve once-a-week spiritual purgation. This causes serious problems to Christians. There is a big dichotomy between their actual life and religious life. It is a constant struggle for Christians to figure out on what values -Christian or Daily-to make decision to perform their life. A church is a body of Christ where one not only finds the eternal life by faith, but also gathers to lead a life based on Christian values. Therefore, a church has to be a part of actual living. Berkland Baptist Church (BBC) is one of the leading churches that address to return to the spirit of early churches where religious life and daily life are fully integrated. This thesis, thus, explores a new concept of what a built form of a church would be. Situe dans le nord-est du maroc, le massif de berkane presente les caracteristiques d'une moyenne montagne mediterranenne; une predominance des terrains calcaires marquee par un paysage karstique associe a une diversite de depots. En effet la majorite des formes sont heritees des episodes quaternaires. L'o;zegzel;l'artere principale presente un regime mediterraneen simple : une longueur des etiages en relation avec la penurie des pluies et une breve saison hivernale de hautes eaux. En outre le bilan global de la dissolution specifique dans le massif est calculee aux emergences, en se basant sur les analyses physico-chimiques, elle est importante et reflete le potentiel calcaire (du substratum et des encroutements)<br>Situated in the north-east of morocco, the massif of berkane shows the characteristics of a middle mediterranean mountain. A predominance versity of sediments-most of shapes are inherited from the quaternary stages. O. Zegzel is the main waterway and shours plain mediterranean regime low-water marks related with lack of rains and a short wintreg season of flood. Abstract:
Measurement error (ME) in the factor levels of designed experiments is often overlooked in the planning and analysis of experimental designs. A familiar model for this type of ME, called the Berkson error model, is discussed at length. Previous research has examined the effect of Berkson error on two-level factorial and fractional factorial designs. This dissertation extends the examination to designs for second order models. The results are used to suggest optimal values for axial points in Central Composite Designs. The proper analysis for experimental data including ME is outlined for first and second order models. A comparison of this analysis to a typical Ordinary Least Squares analysis is made for second order models. The comparison is used to quantify the difference in performance of the two methods, both of which yield unbiased coefficient estimates. Robustness to misspecification of the ME variance is also explored. A solution for experimental planning is also suggested. A design optimality criterion, called the DME criterion, is used to create a second-stage design when ME is present. The performance of the criterion is compared to a D-optimal design augmentation. A final comparison is made between methods accounting for ME and methods ignoring ME.<br>Ph. D.

Abstract:
Today, energy has become one of the most indispensable necessities in the world. Most of the wars and the disputes between the countries have been arising because of the increasing scarcity of energy resources. Therefore, like most country, Turkey has also started to develop new energy policies for more efficient production and utilization of energy. In order to help the understanding of more efficient energy utilization, so far there have been some researches made about energy and exergy (available energy) utilization efficiencies of Turkey with the viewpoint of the quality of energy. In this study, it is aimed to examine energy system of Turkey by computing energy and exergy utilization efficiencies between 1990 and 2006 using the first and the second laws of thermodynamics. The utility sector energy efficiencies are found to range from 41% to 47% and the exergy efficiencies to range from 42% and 48% between 1990 and 2006. The energy efficiencies of the end use sectors of Turkey , namely Industrial, Transportation, Agricultural and Residential-Commercial sectors, are respectively 62%, 22%, 27% and 55% on the average with respect to years. On the other hand, their average exergy efficiencies are 33%, 23%, 27% and 7% between the examined years. The total end use energy and exergy efficiencies are 49% and 21% on the average. Overall energy efficiencies of Turkey range between 37% and 41%, whereas overall exergy efficiencies range between 16% and 17%. Within all the sectors, Residential&ndash<br>Commercial sector is found as the sector having the highest exergetic improvement potential.

L’anarchisme vit un renouveau un peu partout sur le globe depuis les années 1990 et la montée du mouvement contre la mondialisation. Cependant pour les chercheurs contemporains, le lien est bien mince entre l’anarchisme du 21e siècle et le mouvement anarchiste du début du 20e siècle. Selon ces chercheurs, l’anarchisme contemporain serait davantage caractérisé par la nature expérimentale de ses stratégies et par son focus sur le moment présent. L’objectif de ce mémoire est de démontrer qu’il est possible de tracer des liens clairs entre les auteurs anarchistes classiques et l’anarchisme contemporain. En effet, certains auteurs classiques de ce courant vivent leur anarchisme dans le moment présent contrairement à ce que laissent entendre implicitement les chercheurs qui se sont penchés sur l’anarchisme contemporain. Nous analysons les cas d’auteurs anarchistes de la première moitié du 20e siècle comme Alexander Berkman, Emma Goldman, Joseph J. Cohen, Albert Libertad, Émile Armand et Rirette Maîtrejean. Une analyse de la colonie libertaire d’Aiglemont complète le tableau. Notre approche centrée sur l’étude des pratiques militantes repose sur trois conceptions idéal-typiques. Nous considérons trois types de pratiques anarchistes : l’action anarchiste de type insurrectionnel, de type syndicaliste et de type éducationnisteréalisateur. Nous concluons que les pratiques du mouvement anarchiste contemporain s’apparentent aux pratiques de certains anarchistes classiques, c’est-à-dire les pratiques de type éducationniste-réalisateur.<br>Anarchism has seen a revival across the globe since the 1990s and the rise of the movement against globalization. However for contemporary researchers, the link is thin between the current anarchist movement and the anarchist movement of the early 20th century. According to these researchers, contemporary anarchism is more characterized by the experimental nature of its strategies and its focus on the present tense. The objective of this paper is to demonstrate that it is possible to draw parallels between some of the classical anarchists writers and contemporary anarchism. Indeed, some anarchists of the early 20th century lived their anarchism from day to day contrary to what suggest implicitly some researchers who have studied contemporary anarchism. We analyze the cases of anarchists writers of the early 20th century such as Alexander Berkman, Emma Goldman, Joseph J. Cohen, Albert Libertad, Emile Armand and Rirette Maîtrejean. An analysis of the Aiglemont libertarian colony completes the picture. Our approach focus on the study of activists practices based on three ideals types designs. We consider three types of anarchists practices: insurrectionary anarchist action type, union type and the experimental-educationist type. We conclude that the practices of the contemporary anarchist movement are similar in some ways to the practices of at least a few classical anarchists, that is to say, the experimental-educationist type of anarchists practices.
