Abstract:
Sport is a relevant vehicle for worldwide companies to promote products and services (Amis, Slack, & Berrett, 1999). This approach corresponds to a major theoretical field related to sport sponsorship (Stotlar, 2004b). Nonprofit organizations are also concerned with this kind of communication strategy. These organizations expect a return on investment in terms of image, awareness, or territorial economic impact. This article contributes to the public sport-marketing and -sponsorship model. The 10-year study of the French Seine-Saint-Denis department case underscores the fundamentals of this model. This study is a qualitative research study with data analyzed through the use of ATLAS.ti 6.

Abstract:
Subject area The subject areas are organizational management, organizational behaviour and human resource management. Study level/applicability The study is applicable for courses in human resource management and organizational behaviour as part of masters-level programmes in business administration and management, executive development programmes on organization design and development for middle/senior management. Case overview In 2003, Elizabeth and Sunil Mehta had founded a voluntary organization, “Muktangan”, focussed on child-centric education through innovative pedagogy for the community of the urban poor. Elizabeth, an educationist, and Sunil, a highly successful business person, joined hands to contribute to the well-being of urban poor to make a difference to their lives. Elizabeth and Sunil presented a proposal to impart education for “the children of the community, by the teachers drawn from the community” to the residents of the slums in central Mumbai. With a humble beginning of running a small pre-school, Muktangan now manages seven schools with 3,400 children and 500 teachers, and a teachers’ training centre with a capacity to train 100 teachers a year. Muktangan won acclaim for its unique pedagogy and a very effective child-to-teacher ratio. Over the years, Elizabeth and Sunil led Muktangan with a strong passion and a “hands-on” approach. Of late, Elizabeth and Sunil faced questions from their donors about the sustainability of Muktangan with respect to leadership and management succession. Elizabeth and Sunil had a vision for Muktangan for self-directed growth with an empowered team. Muktangan embarked on the journey to create a leadership for self-directed growth. Sunil, Elizabeth and team Muktangan conceptualized and implemented a change management intervention with help from an external consultant to build the desired organization. Expected learning outcomes Outcomes are understanding issues involved in the leadership, organization design and management of change, particularly of those organizations engaged in social change and development in developing societies. Abstract:
A bent Laue double-crystal monochromator system has been designed for vertically expanding the X-ray beam at the Canadian Light Source's BioMedical Imaging and Therapy beamlines. Expansion by a factor of 12 has been achieved without deteriorating the transverse coherence of the beam, allowing phase-based imaging techniques to be performed with high flux and a large field of view. However, preliminary studies revealed a lack of uniformity in the beam, presumed to be caused by imperfect bending of the silicon crystal wafers used in the system. Results from finite-element analysis of the system predicted that the second crystal would be most severely affected and has been shown experimentally. It has been determined that the majority of the distortion occurs in the second crystal and is likely caused by an imperfection in the surface of the bending frame. Measurements were then taken to characterize the bending of the crystal using both mechanical and diffraction techniques. In particular, two techniques commonly used to map dislocations in crystal structures have been adapted to map local curvature of the bent crystals. One of these, a variation of Berg–Berrett topography, has been used to quantify the diffraction effects caused by the distortion of the crystal wafer. This technique produces a global mapping of the deviation of the diffraction angle relative to a perfect cylinder. This information is critical for improving bending and measuring tolerances of imperfections by correlating this mapping to areas of missing intensity in the beam.

MUNTON, ALAN. "Misreading Morrison, Mishearing Jazz: A Response to Toni Morrison's Jazz Critics." Journal of American Studies 31, no. 2 (August 1997): 235–51. http://dx.doi.org/10.1017/s0021875897005653.

Abstract:
Toni Morrison's fiction, we have been repeatedly told, embodies features taken from jazz. Her books have a “jazzy prose style,” express a “jazz aesthetic,” or are “literary jazz.” Critics propose that jazz riffs can be found in her writing, and that she improvises in prose in a manner comparable to an improvising jazz musician. None of this seems to me to be true. To establish a relationship between music and prose fiction would be difficult under any circumstances. It is all the more difficult when the critics concerned show themselves to be unaware of the basic formal structures of jazz. The riff is foregrounded because it is the only feature of jazz that can be compared to prose (because both may include repetitions). It is a more serious objection that Rice, Small-McCarthy, Berrett, and others, including James A. Snead and Henry Louis Gates Jr., consistently ignore structure, harmony, and melody in favour of rhythm. The reason for this is that jazz rhythm can be traced back to its African origins, whereas structure, harmony, and melody require an engagement with European sources. Clearly, an ideology of authenticity is at work here. Yet a parallel argument is willing to relate Morrison's fiction to its European origins. For, if her novel Jazz is, as Rinaldo Walcott indicates, a rewriting of Scott Fitzgerald's version of the “Jazz Age,” then that rewriting or radical revision must occur by reference to a form – the novel – that originated in Europe and is (in the cited instance) a product of white America.

Abstract:
Abstract This symposium will include 3 papers that provide critical interprofessional and interdisciplinary perspectives on our work to understand and measure staffing in health care teams caring for older adults, and frail older adults. The Health Teams for Frail Elders project was funded by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation from August 2016 to October 2018. Dr. Karen Donelan, project Principal Investigator, will chair the session, providing a brief project overview of project aims and activities. A survey and health services researcher, Dr. Donelan will set the context for this large scale project. Dr. Barbara Roberge, a geriatric nurse practitioner who established one of the first senior health programs in the nation along with Dr. Kenneth Minaker at Mass General Hospital, was our primary care and nursing lead on our site visits. She will talk about the care settings we visited, her development of a site assessment tool that covered a range of frail elder needs, and will summarize professional roles and staffing observed within different site types. Dr. Julie Berrett-Abebe, a junior investigator on our team (PhD 2017), will present a paper on the competencies and roles of social workers and community health workers in primary and geriatric practices, as well as the roles of community health workers. Dr. David Auerbach, a national expert in health policy and workforce analysis, will present 4 models of staffing of practices, demonstrating efficiencies in optimizing services for frail elders while minimizing costs.Dr. Joanne Spetz will be the discussant of cross-cutting themes.
