A new facility seeks to manufacture inlets for the turbine of the new NDA aircraft. The inlet is a new design and has never been built before. To complicate matters the manufacturer, Aeron 2 Company, has not traditionally produced any inlets, let alone at the expected production rates for the new aircraft that already has thousands of orders. It was decided that in order to meet demand production must be automated in a similar way to the automotive industry. Aeron, and the commercial aerospace industry as a whole, are inexperienced with automation systems and they believed that they lacked the in-house knowledge to develop and integrate their own automated system. They entered into a contract with a robotics integrator that is has traditionally operated within the automotive industry for delivery of a "turnkey" system. This research covers a six-month period that overlaps with the beginning of Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) of the automated assembly line. Initial observations hinted at the possibility of a strained relationship between Aeron and its automation integrator. This thesis sought to understand if the relationship was indeed strained, and if so, what were the causes and could it be improved? The Aeron group most involved with this system purchase, referred to as TWS, is used as a case-study to investigate the different factors that can affect an interorganizational relationship during development of a technically complex system. The research and recommendations can be applied to other companies that are involved in inter-organizational relationships founded upon development of technically complex projects. An inductive-deductive iterative approach was used in three phases to conduct this research. Beginning with background research in phase one an inductive approach is used to develop a qualitative model of the inter-organizational system. This model leads to additional questions regarding inter-organizational relationships and their more important factors, such as expectations and trust; namely, what are the expectations that are held by each party in the relationship and what are their impacts? These additional questions are addressed in a deductive manner in phase two. Through the use of surveys sent to different automation teams across the organization, data was collected that reflected the different relationships. These survey results indicate interesting customer perceptions of their respective automation suppliers. At the time of this writing all of the automation projects are perceived to be technically complex, yet some contractors are perceived as more technically capable than others. These data also indicate a general lack of trust. Expectations are addressed using a simple matrix that outlines the different technical and management expectations held by TWS in regards to the equipment being purchased and their integrator. A number of expectations held by TWS are unrealistic and have, as of this writing, gone unfulfilled. The third and final phase revisited the initial model in phase one and made modifications based on findings from phase two. For technically complex projects, such as the development of an automated assembly line using immature technology to build a new product, it is impossible to capture every design specification for the system. Design changes will occur. It is imperative that correct expectations regarding the equipment and the firm's capabilities are correctly set at the beginning of the project to reduce a shortfall in expected performance versus actual performance. Expectations, including those that are unrealistic, that go unfulfilled lead to decay in trust. This decay in trust in turn leads to a decreased likelihood in project success. It is recommended that Aeron shy away from "turnkey" systems for such state-of-the-art projects in the future, or at least until Aeron becomes more familiar with automated assembly and their integrators become more familiar with aerospace requirements. This research is most applicable to commercial aerospace companies entering a formal relationship with an automation integrator for an automated assembly line. The research does have general recommendations that are applicable to other industries engaging in similar endeavors. Future work would include a lifecycle study of trust levels within an interorganizational relationship and how they change over the course of the project from conception to delivery.

The objective of this research is to understand the discourse of one popular magazine business in Brazil – Você S. A. - on the theme competencies to enter, to keep and ascension of individuals in corporate market. To achieving that goal, it was possible to problematize the relations of power and domination present in today s precarious labor relationships, where individuals need ,increasingly , to submit the eligibility criteria imposed by the market . It is assumed in research serving as a mediator between these professionals and the firms, the media business try to justify the skills demanded by the market, and prescriptive and instrumental way, offering tips and advice in order to achive such skills . Given this important role, we sought to understand the ideological guidelines by which this discourse. Theoretical foundation for this study was based in a review of the literature about on competencies, contemporary labor market ,business media , discourse , ideology and power. The data sources were obtained through documentary qualitative research, which covered five years of publication of the magazine Você S. A. for a total of 70 editions and 101 reports .For identification of competencies were categorized 16 discursive objects that comprise six discursive formations. The analysis method was the Critical Discourse Analysis. The results obtained suggest the existence an ideological bias in the discourse of the magazine - which in the intent of submitting the individuals competencies to the market demands acting as ideological control over workers - represented by four orders of discourse.

The compound correlations can be inferred from markets quotes with a standard model; however, there exists the behavior of compound correlation smile. The concept of base correlation which makes evaluation of bespoke tranche possible was introduced by the market, but interpolating base correlation for standard tranches directly will generate unreasonable fair spread for bespoke tranches. This paper discusses the reasons generating unreasonable fair spread for bespoke tranches when performing different interpolations, introduces the idea of base expected loss, and constructs the upper and lower bounds using the properties that the base expected loss must obey; the base correlation implied from base expected loss curve with different interpolation exists the behavior of base correlation smile. Then constructing the base expected loss curve that is monotonic increase and concave down proposed by Parcell & Wood can used to price any bespoke tranches in the absence of arbitrage.

Instagram has been released at 2010, nowadays it dramatically influences the customers and the craftsman of bespoke suit in Taiwan. The effect to the customers are that they may accumulate their cultural capital, cultivate oneself habitus of making choices of bespoke suit, compete with others in the field, and feedback on Instagram after wording one’s personal bespoke suit. To the manufactures, Instagram not only play the role as a marketing tool, but also a platform to educate customers. However, What have customers learned so that they earn more cultural capital than the others? How they cultivate their habitus in the field of bespoke suit? What kind of mindset they hold when engaging in cultural consumption? What marketing strategies the craftsman use to express their taste to the customers, and does it works out and attracts customers to do consumption? Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to investigate the phenomena, which is the difference between the customers after doing cultural consumption, and what role Instagram is playing to customers in bespoke suit field. Beside, the study also investigate how the craftsmen using the 5A marketing strategies to influence the customers. This study adopted in-depth interview, and the subjects are 12 customers of bespoke suit and 3 tailor houses. After analyzing the interview, the study shows that the cultural consumption theory of Pierre Bourdieu also adapt the current society, and even due to the emerge of Instagram, customers may even quicker to obtain all kinds of capital, and transfer than to cultural consumption experiences. The study also shows that the marketing strategies on Instagram truly stimulate the users of it, but it has less effectiveness to profoundly influence the customers. Hope this study could give a new point of view to the industry.
Uddin, Amad, M. Khurshid Khan, and S. Noor. "Design & implementation of a bespoke MRPII system for a small and medium enterprise (SME) manufacturing company." 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/10454/9513.
Full textDue to significant challenges and increase in competition within the global environment, manufacturing companies need to focus on Manufacturing Planning and Control (MPC) systems in order to gain a competitive edge. This research paper describes a contribution towards the design and implementation of a bespoke MRP II system for a SME company dealing in tool reclamation. The paper covers the investigation of currently available MRP II systems and also investigates the present MPC system of the concerned SME company. On the basis of these investigations, a new/bespoke design has been proposed and developed for an MRP II system that is tailor-made for the aforementioned company. The newly designed MRP II system has been developed (using MS Access and Visual Basic for Application i.e. VBA) as a database planning tool of MPC system and contains the critical modules Demand Management (DM), Rough Cut Capacity Planning (RCCP), Master Production Scheduling (MPS), Material Requirements Planning (MRP), and Capacity Requirements Planning (CRP). The bespoke MRP II system has been tested within the real manufacturing environment existing in the SME company with positive results. The key outcome of the research has shown that even small SME’s can design and implement their own MRPII system, which is particular and relevant to their own special manufacturing environment, using a minimal of time, software and financial resources.

Full textFused deposition modelling (FDM) 3D printing has shown the most immediate potential for on-demand dose personalisation to suit particular patient's needs. However, FDM 3D printing often involves employing a relatively large molecular weight thermoplastic polymer and results in extended release pattern. It is therefore essential to fast-track drug release from the 3D printed objects. This work employed an innovative design approach of tablets with unique built-in gaps (Gaplets) with the aim of accelerating drug release. The novel tablet design is composed of 9 repeating units (blocks) connected with 3 bridges to allow the generation of 8 gaps. The impact of size of the block, the number of bridges and the spacing between different blocks was investigated. Increasing the inter-block space reduced mechanical resistance of the unit, however, tablets continued to meet pharmacopeial standards for friability. Upon introduction into gastric medium, the 1 mm spaces gaplet broke into mini-structures within 4 min and met the USP criteria of immediate release products (86.7% drug release at 30 min). Real-time ultraviolet (UV) imaging indicated that the cellulosic matrix expanded due to swelling of hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) upon introduction to the dissolution medium. This was followed by a steady erosion of the polymeric matrix at a rate of 8 μm/min. The design approach was more efficient than a comparison conventional formulation approach of adding disintegrants to accelerate tablet disintegration and drug release. This work provides a novel example where computer-aided design was instrumental at modifying the performance of solid dosage forms. Such an example may serve as the foundation for a new generation of dosage forms with complicated geometric structures to achieve functionality that is usually achieved by a sophisticated formulation approach.
Oltean-Dumbrava, Crina, Gregory R. Watts, and Abdul H. S. Miah. "“Top-Down-Bottom-Up” Methodology as a Common Approach to Defining Bespoke Sets of Sustainability Assessment Criteria for the Built Environment." 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10454/7745.
Full textThe top-down-bottom-up (TDBU) methodology for defining bespoke sets of sustainability criteria for specific civil engineering project types is introduced and discussed. The need to define sustainability criteria for specific civil engineering project types occurs mainly in one or both of the following cases: (1) when a more comprehensive and indicative assessment of the sustainability of the project type in question is required; and/or (2) there is no readily available bespoke sustainability assessment tool, or set of criteria, for assessing the sustainability of the project type. The construction of roads, buildings, airports, tunnels, dams, flood banks, bridges, water supply, and sewage systems and their supporting systems are considered to be unique civil engineering/infrastructure project types. The normative definition of sustainable civil engineering/infrastructure projects and the framework for assessing its sustainability is defined and provided by the authors. An example of the TDBU methodology being applied to define sustainability criteria for transport noise reducing devices is presented and discussed. The end result of applying the methodology is a systematically researched and industry validated set of criteria that denotes assessing the sustainability of the civil engineering/infrastructure project type. The paper concludes that the top-down-bottom-up will support stakeholders and managers involved in assessing sustainability to consider all major research methods to define general and unique sustainability criteria to assess and so maximize sustainability.

Full textPolypharmacy is often needed for the management of cardiovascular diseases and is associated with poor adherence to treatment. Hence, highly flexible and adaptable systems are in high demand to accommodate complex therapeutic regimens. A novel design approach is employed to fabricate highly modular 3D printed “polypill” capsules with bespoke release patterns for multiple drugs. Complex structures are devised using combined fused deposition modeling 3D printing aligned with hot-filling syringes. Two unibody highly modular capsule skeletons with four separate compartments are devised: i) concentric format: two external compartments for early release while two inner compartments for delayed release, or ii) parallel format: where nondissolving capsule shells with free-pass corridors and dissolution rate-limiting pores are used to achieve immediate and extended drug releases, respectively. Controlling drug release is achieved through digital manipulation of shell thickness in the concentric format or the size of the rate limiting pores in the parallel format. Target drug release profiles are achieved with variable orders and configurations, hence confirming the modular nature with capacity to accommodate therapeutics of different properties. Projection of the pharmacokinetic profile of this digital system capsules reveal how the developed approach can be applied in dose individualization and achieving multiple desired pharmacokinetic profiles.
