The latest development in computer technology in sports has increased the popularity of ping pong among people. It calls for designing an intelligent table tennis robot using computer technology to cooperate with table tennis enthusiasts and professional table tennis players to practice. Much research work has already been done in this area. However, this study explores the use of binocular vision to precisely identify, locate, and anticipate the flight trajectory and landing position of table tennis balls. Table tennis playing involves complex spatial movement of the racket and human body. It takes much effort for the novice players to better mimic expert players. The evaluation of motion patterns during table tennis training, which is usually achieved by coaches, is important for novice trainees to improve faster. However, traditional coaching relies heavily on coaches qualitative observation and subjective evaluation. It is well understood that multiple video cameras and computer vision (CV) technology can be used in sport for match officiating, statistics and player performance analysis. A review of the literature reveals a number of existing solutions, both commercial and theoretical, within this domain. However, these solutions are expensive and often complex in their installation. The hypothesis for this research states that by considering only changes in ball motion, automatic event classification is achievable with low-cost monocular video recording devices, without the need for 3-dimensional (3D) pos

In this chapter, the author looks at the poetry of Ping-Pong, his favorite sport. According to Marty Reisman, the game of Ping-Pong died in Bombay, India, in 1952. Reisman, nicknamed “The Needle,” was favored to win the World Table Tennis Championship that day. The author says he has always loved Ping-Pong because you can get into a rhythm, hit the ball back and forth across the net for hours, with any racquet, and simply talk. Ping-Pong, like poetry, is a players' sport, not ideal for spectators. Bob Mankoff, the cartoon editor of The New Yorker, claims that there is palpable humor in the gam

The rapid evolution of wireless networks over the last decade has allowed users to reach any access network at anytime and anywhere. The main challenge in this heterogeneous network is to determine the best access network for the end user in terms of quality of service (QoS) when the vertical handover process is needed. In this chapter, the authors propose an efficient policy for vertical handover based on multi-attribute utility theory. This theory combines two approaches the utility function and multiple attributes decision making (MADM). Firstly, they apply the utility function to build the
