Abstract:
Background and Aim: Toll-like receptors (TLRs) comprise microbial sensing receptors present on cell surfaces that are capable of detecting pathogens. The present study aims to examine the expression of TLRs within the peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) of the Betong chickens. Materials and Methods: Blood samples were harvested from 12 Betong (KU line) chickens. Hematological values were calculated. PBMC was isolated from the blood utilizing a Histopaque solution and stored in a RPMI1640 culture medium. Cell viability was investigated using a Trypan Blue dye exclusion test. DNA was extracted from PBMC and the expression of the DNA's TLRs was examined using a polymerase chain reaction. Results: Hematological values were determined from the blood samples collected in this study obtained from healthy Betong chickens. PBMC that was isolated from the Betong chickens possessed cell viability higher than 95% (95.37±1.06). From the examination of TLRs gene expression, results revealed instances of TLR1.1, TLR1.2, TLR2.1, TLR2.2, TLR3, TLR4, TLR5, TLR 7, TLR15, and TLR21 that were present in the PBMC of Betong chickens. Conclusion: PBMC isolated from the blood of healthy Betong chickens possessed excellent cell quality. All chicken TLRs were discovered within the PBMC of Betong chickens. Hence, PBMC stands out as one of the premier sources for in vitro studies of chicken immune response.

Abstract:
According to the world wellness tourism trend, Thailand has promoted wellness tourism to boost its competitiveness. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the potential of Betong district in Yala province to be a wellness destination in the deep south of Thailand serving both domestic and international tourists. This study applied qualitative analysis to primary and secondary data on tourists’ demand for wellness tourism services and the standard of wellness tourism services supplied in Betong. The findings revealed that Betong’s wellness tourism services, found to have high market potential, include gastronomy services, Betong hot springs, and historical and community-based tourism destinations. These indicated that Betong has the potential to become a wellness tourism destination. However, Betong has to develop new services like herbal tourism and halal tourism as well as creative tourism products and services to increase its competitiveness and achieve inclusive income distribution and sustainable growth.

Kajian ini dijalankan untuk mengenal pasti pengetahuan Neurolinguistik dalam kalangan guru-guru sekolah rendah di daerah Betong, Sarawak. Neurolinguistik merupakan gabungan dua bidang iaitu neurologi dan linguistik. Neurolinguistik adalah suatu bidang kajian dalam ilmu linguistik yang membincangkan struktur otak yang dimiliki seseorang untuk memproses bahasa, termasuk di dalamnya gangguan yang terjadi dalam mengungkapkan bahasa. Justeru, kajian ini dijalankan bagi mengkaji tahap pengetahuan guru-guru sekolah rendah dalam bidang Neurolinguistik. Seramai 105 orang guru yang mengajar di sekolah rendah di daerah Betong telah dipilih sebagai sampel kajian. Kajian ini merupakan kajian kuantitatif yang menggunakan kaedah tinjauan melalui borang soal selidik. Analisis deskriptif menggunakan kekerapan, peratus dan min. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa guru-guru sekolah rendah di daerah Betong mempunyai tahap pengetahuan yang rendah terhadap bidang Neurolinguistik.

Aprašant tempiamo betono valkšnumą, būtina atminti, kad jau ankstyvose darbo stadijose betone atsiranda plyšiai. Yra žinomi du analitiniai modeliai, aprašantys tempiamos armatūros ir pleišėjančio betono sąveiką. Pirmasis, labiau tradicinis modelis postuluoja staigiai atsirandančius ištisinius plyšius, tarp kurių lieka nesupleišeję betono blokai, dalyvaujantys tempiamos zonos darbe dėka armatūros ir betono sukibimo. Augant deformacijoms toliau, palaipsniui nyksta armatūros sukibimas su betonu ir tempiamas betonas palaipsniui išsijungia iš darbo. Kitame modelyje pleišėjantis betonas traktuojamas kaip ištisinis kūnas, o tarp betono ir armatūros yra išlaikomas deformacijų vientisumas. Betonui pasiekus pleišejimo ribą, jo įtempimai pradeda kristi pagal tam tikrą kreivinę pareinamybę ir palaipsniui mažeja iki nulio. Tikrumoje tempiamos zonos darbą nusako reiškiniai, būdingi ir vienam, ir kitam modeliui. Literatūroje nurodoma, kad antrasis modelis yra ne mažiau realistiškas už pirmąjį, tradicinį modelį. Darbe pasirenkamas antrasis modelis, kuris yra algoritmiškai patogesnis. Deformacijos čia atvaizduojamos susidedančios iš tiesinės, šiuo atveju, valkšnumo dedamosios, ir netiesiněs, pleišejimo deformacijų dedamosios. Pastaroji čia, kaip ir trumpalaikes apkrovos atveju yra laikoma nepriklausanti nuo laiko. Betonas traktuojamas kaip senėjanti medžiaga, jo valkšnumas yra aprašomas integraline pareinamybe su analitiškai išreikšta valkšnumo funkcija. Skaičiuojamasis laikotarpis yra sudalinamas į eilę laiko žingsnių, integralas pakeičiamas baigtine suma, ir tokiu būdu gaunamos algebrinės pareinamybės tarp įtempimų ir deformacijų pricaugių atitinkamuose laiko intervaluose. Šios pareinamybės priklauso ne tik nuo prieaugių paskutiniame laiko žingsnyje, bet ir nuo visos apkrovimo istorijos. Tai yra neišvengiama senejančios medžiagos savybė. Kadangi ryšys tarp pleišejimo deformacijų ir įtempimų yra netiesinis, tai minėtosios prieaugių lygtys sprendžiamos iteraciniu būdu. Yra sudaryta kompiuterio programa ir sumodeliuotas gelžbetoninio elemento tempiamos zonos valkšnumas, esant įvairiems priverstinės deformacijos didėjimo režimams. Iteracinis procesas parodė gerą, konvergenciją. Pasirodė, kad valkšnumas turi palyginus nedidelę įtaką šio modelio pleišėjimo deformacijai. Sudarytosios skaitmeninės procedūros yra skirtos įvesti į baigtinių elementų metodo programą sijų ir rėmų valkšnumui skaičiuoti.

Abstract:
U ovom je radu analizirano kako kombinacija različitih vrsta vlakana utječe na mehanička svojstva betona. U tu svrhu korištena su čelična vlakna u kombinaciji s različitim volumnim udjelima polipropilenskih vlakana. Rezultati pokazuju da beton armiran samo čeličnim vlaknima ima najveću tlačnu čvrstoću, dok hibridni mikroarmirani betoni povećanjem udjela polipropilenskih vlakana pokazuju manje tlačne čvrstoće u odnosu na referentni beton. Nasuprot tome, hibridni beton s čeličnim vlaknima i volumnim udjelom polipropilenskih vlakana od 0,1% ima najveću vlačnu čvrstoću savijanjem.

Abstract:
The Iban traditional textiles are very well decorated with beautiful motifs. Some motifs are small and simple but some are complex (Durin, 2011). Both the simple and complex motifs are embedded meaning and symbols which depict the Iban traditional culture especially their traditional beliefs. This research aims to relate the motif of the Iban Textile and their traditional belief. Secondly, this research is also to analyse the usage of Pua Kumbu traditionally and currently. The data collection are carried out through observation and interviewing the experts in Iban textiles weaving in Kuching, Betong and Bintulu. The analysis method is used for the data collection is content analysis. In the research finding it is proven that the usage Pua Kumbu currently is not only confined to ritual purposes but also for the daily used as decorative accessories. It’s also proven, not only the Iban community weave the Pua Kumbu but few communities also weave the Iban’s textile motif. For example, Azmeer Sharkawi in Betong.

From 1869 until the founding of the diocese of Singapore in 1909, the missions and chaplaincies in Singapore and what is now West Malaysia were within the jurisdiction of the diocese of Labuan, which itself had been founded as a legal fiction in 1855 as the stock onto which the bishopric for Rajah James Brooke’s Sarawak could be grafted. Although the diocese and the bishopric were constitutionally distinct, as succeeding bishops were often reminded by the rajahs of Sarawak, the bishops looked at the whole area of their spiritual leadership, and regarded the staffing of it as one problem—or opportunity. G. F. Hose himself, bishop of Labuan 1881–1908, and of Sarawak 1882–1908, had served in the Straits Settlements from 1868, and had been archdeacon of Singapore for his predecessor, Bishop Chambers. For sixty-two years the St Andrew’s Church Mission in Singapore, the base for work among Asians, had as superintendent two priests, W. H. Gomes, 1872—1902, and Richard Richards, 1902–34. Both had previously worked in Borneo, for more than fourteen and twelve years respectively. In the opposite direction Bishop Hose transferred to Kuching in 1898 A. F. Sharp, who had worked for six years in Singapore.

U radu je istraživana mogućnosti primjene industrijske otpadne PVC piljevine kao djelomične zamjene za pijesak u mortu i betonu. U tu svrhu izrađene su mješavine standardnog cementnog morta i običnog betona u kojima je udio pijeska zamijenjen različitim volumnim udjelima PVC piljevine. Rezultati ispitivanja ukazuju na smanjenje obradivosti mješavina te trend smanjenja tlačne i vlačne čvrstoće savijanjem povećanjem udjela PVC piljevine u odnosu na referentni beton.

Abstract: As one component of language learning, the learning method becomes a determinant of the course of an effective and efficient learning process. This requires the professionalism of teachers to be able to implement certain methods in the learning process. The purpose of this paper is to determine the application of the Grammatical Hunting language game method, to find out students' responses to the learning methods applied, and their advantages and disadvantages in learning Arabic in class 3/1 Mutawasith Khoiriyah Wittaya Mulnithi Betong, Yala, Thailand. This research is a descriptive quantitative research. The sample of this research is students of class 3/1 Mutawasith Khoiriyah Wittaya Mulnithi Betong, Yala, Thailand was 25 students. The research technique applied was a non-test technique with data collection instruments in the form of observation, interviews, questionnaires, and documentation. The results showed that (1) The application of the Grammatical Hunting language game method consisted of 3 stages, namely: introduction, core activities, and closing. (2) Students show the best responses to the methods applied in the form of increased interest and activeness in learning Arabic, that is 89,77 %. (3) The advantages of this method are eliminating boredom, creating cooperation, and supportive between students, while the disadvantages of applying this method, namely the number of groups and the crowded class.

Abstract:
This paper presents the air content results of self-consolidating concrete (SCC) and its mortar phase including rice husk ash (RHA) as a supplementary cementing material. Moreover, this paper demonstrates a simple technique to determine the dosage of air-entraining admixture (AEA) required for the target air content in SCC. Different SCC mixtures were designed based on the water/binder (W/B) ratios of 0.30–0.50 and design air content of 4–8%. RHA was incorporated in the concretes substituting 0–30% of cement by weight. The mortars were formulated from the mixture proportions of the corresponding parent concretes and tested to determine the air content at various AEA dosages. The effects of W/B ratio and RHA content on the air content of both mortar and concrete were observed. The effect of mortar volume on the air content of concrete was also noticed. Besides, the AEA dosages required for the target air contents of concrete were estimated based on the equivalent mortar air contents. Later the air-entrained SCC mixtures were produced using AEA and tested for the air content. Test results exhibit that the air contents of both mortar and concrete were significantly influenced by the W/B ratio and RHA content. The concrete air content was also greatly influenced by its mortar volume. The AEA dosage increased with lower W/B ratio, higher RHA content, and greater mortar volume for the target air contents. In addition, the actual AEA dosages were consistent with the estimated AEA dosages of the concretes. An excellent correlation was observed between the actual and estimated AEA dosages. The strong correlation suggests that the AEA dosage needed for a target air content in concrete can be determined based on the equivalent air content of its mortar phase. Santrauka Straipsnyje pateikiami oro kiekio nustatymo savitankiame betone (SCC) ir jo skiedinio dalyje su ryžių lukštų pelenais (RHA), naudojamais kaip papildoma cementavimo medžiaga, rezultatai. Be to, pateikiamas paprastas būdas parinkti orą įsiurbiančio priedo (AEA) dozę, siekiant gauti reikalingą oro kiekį SCC. Suprojektuoti skirtingi SCC mišiniai su skirtingu vandens ir rišiklio (W/B) 0,30–0,50 santykiu ir numatytu 4–8 proc. oro kiekiu, RHA buvo dedamas į betoną pakeičiant 0–30 proc. cemento pagal masę. Skiediniai buvo formuojami pagal jiems artimo betono sudėtis ir oro kiekis juose bandomas su skirtingomis AEA dozėmis. Nustatyta W/B santykio ir RHA kiekio įtaka oro kiekiui tiek skiedinyje, tiek betone bei skiedinio tūrio įtaka oro kiekiui betone. Be to, AEA dozės, reikalingos numatytam oro kiekiui betone pasiekti, nustatytos pagal ekvivalentinį oro kiekį skiedinyje. Vėliau SCC mišiniai su orą įsiurbiančiu priedu buvo pagaminti naudojant AEA ir išbandytas juose esantis oro kiekis. Tyrimų rezultatai rodo, kad tiek skiedinį, tiek betono oro kiekį labai veikia W/B santykis ir RHA kiekis. Oro kiekį betone taip pat smarkiai veikia skiedinio tūris. Mažėjant W/B santykiui, didėjant RHA kiekiui ir skiedinio tūriui AEA dozė turi būti didinama norimam oro kiekiui pasiekti. Taip pat faktinės AEA dozės atitiko suskaičiuotas betonų AEA dozes. Tarp faktinių ir suskaičiuotų AEA dozių gauta labai gera koreliacija. Ji rodo, kad AEA dozę, reikalingą numatytam oro kiekiui betone pasiekti, galima skaičiuoti pagal ekvivalentinį oro kiekį šio betono skiedinio dalyje.

Abstract:
This study aims to examine whether there are differences in the size and shape of otolith both between sexes and between the sampling times of bigeye scad Selar crumenophthalmus in Manado Bay, North Sulawesi. Most of the otolith sizes and the otolith shape indices do not show any significant differences between left and right, some of which show statistically significant differences such as the otolith length and the indices of the roundness, ellipticity and aspect ratio of female fish at August 2017 and otolith length, otolith width and otolith perimeter of male fish at November 2017. The otolith sizes and shape indices do not differ between sexes but differ between sampling times ie August 2017 and November 2017. Otolith sizes such as length, width, area and perimeter and shape indices such as circularity and rectangularity can be used as indicators of stock determination. Other shape indices of otolith such as form factor, roundness, ellipticity and aspect ratio are not well used as stock determination. Most of the samples showed a negative allometric growth pattern, except in the sample of female fish sampled in November 2017 which showed an isometric growth pattern for all otolith size variables. There is no statistically significant difference in the regression line of the otolith sizes - total length between sexes, but there is a statistically very significant difference in the regression line between sampling times (months) where the otolith size is greater in November 2017 or in other words at the same length of fish, otolith sizes bigger in November 2017 than in August 2017. The otolith sizes and their relationship with the total length of the fish can be used for determining (separating) the stock of bigeye scad Selar crumenophthalmus. There is a possibility that the sample for August 2017 is a different stock with samples from November 2017.Key words: Selar crumenophthalmus, otolith, morphometry, stock identification, Manado Bay ABSTRACTPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji apakah terdapat perbedaan ukuran dan bentuk otolit baik antar seks maupun antar waktu pengambilan sampel ikan selar betong Selar crumenophthalmus di Teluk Manado Sulawesi Utara. Sebagian besar ukuran serta indeks bentuk otolit tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang nyata antara kiri dan kanan, beberapa di antaranya menunjukkan perbedaan yang nyata secara statistik misalnya ukuran panjang otolit serta indeks bentuk otolit ‘roundness’, ‘ellipticity’ dan ‘aspect ratio’ pada ikan betina Agustus 2017 dan ukuran panjang otolit, luas otolit dan keliling otolit pada ikan jantan November 2017. Ukuran dan indeks bentuk otolit tidak berbeda antar jenis kelamin tetapi berbeda antar waktu sampling yakni Agustus 2017 dan November 2017. Ukuran otolit seperti panjang, lebar, luas dan keliling otolit serta indeks bentuk seperti ‘circularity’ dan ‘rectangularity’ dapat digunakan sebagai indikator penentu stok. Indeks bentuk otolit lainnya seperti ‘form factor’, ‘roundness’, ‘ellipticity’ dan ‘aspect rasio’ kurang baik digunakan sebagai variable penentu stok. Sebagian besar sampel menunjukkan pola pertumbuhan alometri negatif, kecuali pada sampel ikan betina yang disampling pada November 2017 yang memperlihatkan pola pertumbuhan isometrik untuk semua variabel ukuran otolit. Tidak terdapat perbedaan garis regresi ukuran otolit - panjang total antar seks, tetapi terdapat perbedaan yang sangat nyata garis regresi tersebut antar waktu sampling (bulan) di mana ukuran otolit lebih besar pada bulan November 2017 atau dengan kata lain pada panjang ikan yang sama, ukuran otolit lebih besar pada bulan November 2017 dibandingkan dengan pada bulan Agustus 2017. Ukuran otolit serta hubungan regresi dengan panjang total ikannya dapat digunakan untuk penentuan (pemisahan) stok ikan selar betong Selar crumenophthalmus. Ada kemungkinan sampel bulan Agustus 2017 merupakan stok yang berbeda dengan sampel bulan November 2017.Kata kunci: Selar crumenophthalmus, otolit, morfometri, identifikasi stok, Teluk Manado

Uncontrolled dumping of palm oil fuel ash (POFA) not only occupies valuable land but also creates environmental pollution and health hazard. These problems can be reduced to a large extent by using POFA in concrete. A number of research works have been carried out to investigate the potential of POFA for use as a supplementary cementing material in normal, high strength, high performance, and aerated concretes. This paper presents a review on the use of POFA in different types of concrete. It firstly discusses the physical and chemical properties of POFA. Then the emphasis has been given on the effects of POFA on the fresh and hardened properties, and durability of concrete. This paper shows that both ground and unground POFA increase the water demand and thus decrease the workability of concrete. However, ground POFA has shown a good potential for improving the hardened properties and durability of concrete due to its satisfactory micro-filling ability and pozzolanic activity. In addition to discussing the benefits of POFA, this study has identified certain gaps in the present state of knowledge on POFA concrete, and listed several research needs for future investigation. The findings of this study would encourage the use of POFA as a supplementary cementing material for concrete. Santrauka Nekontroliuojami palmių aliejaus kuro pelenų (POFA) sąvartynai ne tik užima vertingus žemės plotus, bet ir teršia aplinką bei kelia pavojų sveikatai. Šios problemos gali būti sumažintos POFA naudojant betone. Daug mokslinių tyrimų buvo atlikta siekiant ištirti POFA potencialą, kad juos būtų galima naudoti kaip papildomą normalių, didelio stiprio, aukštos kokybės ir poringujų betonų cementavimo medžiagą. Šiame straipsnyje apžvelgiama, kaip POFA naudojami įvairių tipų betonams. Visų pirma aptariamos fizinės ir cheminės POFA savybės. Tuomet dėmesys atkreipiamas į šviežio ir sukietėjusio betono savybes bei betono ilgaamžiškuma. Šis straipsnis parodo, kad tiek malti, tiek nemalti POFA padidina vandens poreikį ir blogina technologines charakteristikas. Tačiau malti POFA parodė potencialą gerinant betono atsparumo ir ilgaamžiškumo savybes, nes jie pasižymi geromis mikroužpildų savybėmis ir pucolaniniu aktyvumu. Be to, aptarta POFA nauda, nustatytos tam tikros šiuo metu turimų žinių apie POFA betoną spragos ir išvardyta daugelis tyrimų, kurie turėtų būti atlikti ateityje. Šio darbo išvados turėtųpaskatinti naudoti POFA kaip papildomą rišamąją betono medžiagą.

The millipede genus Malayorthomorpha Mršić, 1996, so far monospecific and previously known only from Park Belum, Perak State, northern Malaysia, is recorded from a mountain in Betong District, Yala Province, southern Thailand for the first time, being represented there by two new species: M. halabalasp. nov. and M. hulutbeedasp. nov. Both new species are found to occur syntopically and can be assumed as narrowly endemic to the Titiwangsa Mountain Range which begins in southern Thailand, crosses the Malaysian border, and extends into east and west coast regions of the Malay Peninsula. In addition, the generic diagnosis is slightly updated, and a key to all three species is provided.

Bamboo is considered as environmentally and eco-friendly material compared to hardwood and nowadays bamboo veneer is getting very popular in the market. Bamboo veneer is suitable for many modern designs. The alternate layers of veneer bamboo (3 and 5 layers) were combined with fiberglass by using Epoxy resin (2% hardener) as bonding agent to produce PBFC at different pressure. Panels produced were assessed for the mechanical and physical properties such as MOE and MOR, thickness swelling (TS), and water absorption (WA) in accordance with the European Standard. Results revealed that strength performance of board improved with increasing pressure. Thickness swelling and water absorption values were much lower for the 5 layer composite Thus such findings revealed that bamboo veneer from Buluh betong possess great potential for the manufacture of bio-composite products.

Participants were fourth, fifth and sixth-grade students selected using random purposive sampling from three different classes in a public school (n=80) in Betong. This research using an explanatory mixed-method also aimed to determine whether students’ attitudes and perception significantly affect their reading comprehension. The data was gathered using Elementary Reading Attitude Survey (ERAS) developed by McKenna and Kear, 1990, interview questions and the analysis on students’ performance in reading comprehension. The research findings showed no strong relationship between students’ attitudes and perception towards reading would affect their achievement in reading comprehension because students’ attitudes and perceptions are affected mainly by other factors.

Concrete maturity technology is used to predict the strength of concrete being cured and make an informed decision for stripping the formworks. However, the current concrete maturity method uses temperature sensors that require an extensive wiring, which is not often acceptable on construction site due to harsh working environment. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology provides a solution for the wiring issue because of its ability of sending data wirelessly. An RFID tag integrated with a temperature sensor and placed within fresh concrete may be able to read temperatures of concrete and transmit them to an RFID reader wirelessly in real‐time. It may then enable construction professionals to use concrete maturity technology to make an informed decision for stripping the formworks without having to worry about wiring issues on construction site. However, the previous research indicated that the RFID signal gets dispersed in liquid medium. One may speculate then how well RFID signals can travel through fresh concrete with high water content. Would water content of fresh concrete affect the readability of RFID tags? Would the tag's burying depth within fresh concrete affect its readability? This paper presents the results of our investigation on the readability of RFID tags placed in fresh concrete in the early stage of the curing process. Santrauka Betono stiprejimo technologija taikoma apdorojamo betono stiprumui prognozuoti priimant sprendima, kada galima nuimti klojinius. Vadovaujantis betono stiprejimo kontroles metodu, naudojami temperatūros jutikliai, prijungiami laidais, kuriuos ne visada patogu naudoti sunkiomis statybos aikšteles salygomis. Laidu galima atsisakyti taikant radijo dažnio nustatymo (RDN) technologija, nes ji leidžia siusti duomenis be laidu. RND siustuvas, pritvirtintas prie temperatūros jutiklio ir idetas i šviežia betona, gali matuoti betono temperatūra ir perduoti jos reikšmes i RND imtuva be jokiu laidu. Remiantis tokia informacija galima spresti, kada nuimti klojinius nesukeliant rūpesčiu su jutikliu laidais. Tačiau ankstesni tyrimai parode, kad skystoje aplinkoje RDN signalas išsklaidomas. Galima tik speti, kaip šis signalas sklis šviežio betono aplinkoje. Ar tokiame betone esantis vanduo leis skaityti RND siustuvu informacija? Ar siustuvo gylis šviežiame betone komplikuos jo informacijos skaitymo galimybe? Šiame straipsnyje aprašomi RND siustuvu informacijos tyrimo rezultatai, gauti idejus siustuvus ankstyvuoju šviežio betono stiprejimo laikotarpiu.

In this study, betong bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper) veneers were laminated with sesenduk wood (Endospermum diadenum) veneers to form Hybrid Laminated Bamboo-Wood Veneer (HLBWVB) using urea formaldehyde (UF) as glue. The HLBWVB was pressed at two levels of pressure viz. 70 kg/cm2 and 130 kg/cm2. The physical properties such as moisture content (%), density (kg/m3) and de-lamination (%), and also the mechanical properties such as bending (MPa), screw withdrawal (N) and shear (MPa) were determined in accordance to BS:EN 1993. From an independent t-test analysis p≤0.05; it was found that there are significant differences in the mean of all variable tested except for delamination test. It is shown that high pressure gives the best physical and mechanical properties compare to lower pressure.

Concrete is material obtained mixing matrix material, coarse and small aggregates and water along with additives acquiring necessary properties of hardening. The quality and properties of raw material used for manufacturing concrete, V/C ratio and the uniformity of the compaction of the mixture lead to the fundamental properties of concrete. The compressive strength of concrete is one of the most important properties of concrete. The article deals with the impact of plasticizers on the structural properties of concrete choosing an optimal content of additives. Concrete plasticizers increasing the content of additive increase the strength of samples, the density and ultrasonic pulse of velocity and decrease absorption. Test results have revealed that a plasticizing admixture under dosing or overdosing can reduce the properties of concrete. Santrauka Betonas – medžiaga, kuri sumaišius rišamąją medžiagą, stambiuosius ir smulkiuosius užpildus, vandenį bei pridėjus priedų, reikiamų savybių įgyja kietėdama. Betonui gaminti naudojamų žaliavų kokybė ir savybės, V/C santykis, mišinio sutankinimo vienodumas lemia pagrindines betono savybes. Betono gniuždymo stipris yra viena iš svarbiausių betono savybių. Straipsnyje nagrinėjamas plastifikatoriaus poveikis betono savybėms, parenkamas optimalus jo kiekis. Atlikus betono savybių tyrimus su skirtingais kiekiais plastifikatoriaus, nustatyta, kad betone didinant plastifikatoriaus kiekį, didėja bandinių gniuždymo stipris, tankis ir ultragarso impulso sklidimo greitis, o įmirkis mažėja. Pagal gautus tyrimo rezultatus nustatyta, kad nepakankamas plastifikatoriaus kiekis arba jo perdozavimas gali pabloginti betono savybes.

Stříkané betony jsou v současné době používány stále častěji zejména na menších stavbách v pozemním stavitelství, kde je stříkaný beton aplikován ručním způsobem nástřiku. Kvalita takových konstrukcí nebývá příliš často kontrolována a to především díky náročnosti provedení běžně používaných destruktivních zkoušek. Pro popis kvality betonových konstrukcí lze však využít i nedestruktivních zkušebních metod založených na rychlosti průchodu ultrazvukového impulsu konstrukcí. Provedený experiment zaměřený na ověření vhodnosti jednotlivých metod ultrazvukového prozvučování zkušební desky a jádrových vývrtů z ní vyrobených ukázal, že nejlepší shody výsledků pro popis homogenity dosáhneme při použití metody nepřímého prozvučování zkušební desky a přímého prozvučování jádrových vývrtů. Provedení ověření kvality stříkaného betonu pomocí přímého či polopřímého ultrazvukového prozvučování je však v praxi obtížné a proto předložený článek navrhuje řešení.

Concrete is the most widely used building material, which received hardening of mixture prepared from the coarse and fine aggregate, binding substance – cement and water. Cement and aggregate quality, v/c ratio of the mixture is determined by the uniformity of compacting properties of the concrete basic. Compressive strength of concrete is one of the most important properties of concrete. The paper examined a metal cord waste from recycled tires, effect on concrete properties, the optimal additive content was chosen. After the studies of the properties of the concrete with the different quantities of metal cord waste, it was determined that by increasing the amount of waste metal cord in the concrete the compressive strength of the specimens, density, predicted resistance to frost cycles increases, and absorption decreases. Betonas – tai plačiausiai naudojama statybinė medžiaga, kuri gaunama sukietėjus mišiniui, paruoštam iš stambiųjų ir smulkiųjų užpildų, rišančiosios medžiagos – cemento ir vandens. Cemento užpildų kokybė ir savybės, v/c santykis, mišinio sutankinimo vienodumas lemia pagrindines betono savybes. Betono gniuždymo stipris yra viena iš svarbiausių betono savybių. Straipsnyje nagrinėjamas metalinio kordo atliekos, gautos iš perdirbtų padangų, kiekio poveikis betono savybėms, parenkamas optimalus metalinio kordo atliekos kiekis. Atlikus betono savybių tyrimus su skirtingais metalinio kordo atliekos kiekiais, nustatyta, kad betone didinant metalinio kordo atliekos kiekį didėja bandinių gniuždymo stipris, tankis, prognozuojamas atsparumas šalčiui, o vandens įmirkis mažėja.

Reka bentuk seni bina rumah Melayu banyak memanfaatkan unsur semula jadi dan berteraskan falsafah ideologi masyarakat Melayu. Rumah Melayu umumnya menepati konsep “rumah” sejagat kerana pembinaannya secara relatifnya lebih kekal. Unsur-unsur yang menentukan kemelayuan sesebuah rumah tradisional dapat dilihat pada ciri-ciri seni binanya Motif berbentuk flora, fauna, dan kaligrafi paling banyak sekali digunakan berbanding motif-motif yang lain sekaligus digunakan sebagai penanda aras identiti seni bina rumah Melayu. Data diperoleh melalui temu bual bersama informan iaitu pemilik RMALS ini sendiri. Zaprojektowano skład betonu klasy C20/25 bez udziału pyłu krzemionkowego oraz trzy składy zawierające odpowiednio 5, 10, 15% pyłu. Mieszanki betonowe zostały poddane badaniom opadu stożka i zawartości powietrza, natomiast beton – wytrzymałości na ściskanie i zginanie, głębokości penetracji wody pod ciśnieniem, nasiąkliwości i mrozoodporności. Przedstawiono analizę wyników badań mieszanek betonowych i stwardniałych betonów. Badania wykazały przydatność pyłu krzemionkowego, jako surowca do produkcji betonu.

Abstract:
This paper investigates the present situation of thermal comfort in typical low-income houses located in Betong and Saratok, Sarawak, Malaysia. Investigations were carried out by measuring airflow rate, temperature, relative humidity and mean radiant temperature at specific points in one chosen house of each district. Different low-income housing estates were chosen for comparisons due to the different location and position of each house. Although both of these low- income houses have similarity in design but differs in layout arrangement. Results are presented and analyzed using Corrected Effective Temperature (CET) index in two different window and door opening configurations. The results show that the modern low-income house is thermally uncomfortable under certain conditions. High internal air temperatures occurred when doors and windows were closed combined with low air velocity contributes to thermally uncomfortable environment. Once all doors and windows were opened, allowing the air movement to increase, thermal comfort was achieved although air temperatures remained high.

Oleh itu, penyelidikan ini adalah bersifat etnografi yang memfokuskan kepada kepercayaan Mali dalam kearifan tempatan membuat Penganan iaitu sejenis kuih tradisional Iban. Pendekatan penyelidikan ini adalah menggunakan kaedah kualitatif iaitu dengan melakukan kerja lapangan, mendokumentasi dan menemu bual informan yang mempunyai kepakaran dalam budaya Iban. Kawasan penyelidikan iaitu di Lubok Antu, Betong, Sri Aman dan Limbang telah dipilih sebagai lokasi penyelidikan untuk mendapatkan kepelbagaian data dari setiap penempatan geografi masyarakat Iban. Tujuan penyelidikan ini adalah sebagai satu usaha untuk mengarkibkan dan mengkonservasi kepercayaan Mali sebagai sebuah warisan tidak ketara. Hasil dapatan mendapati bahawa, kepercayaan Mali masih menjadi sebuah warisan dalam bentuk kolektif memori dan diamalkan dalam kehidupan masyarakat Iban kini walaupun mereka telah menganuti agama baharu iaitu agama Islam dan Kristian. Melalui penyelidikan ini diharapkan mampu memberikan satu kefahaman yang komprenhensif mengenai adat resam dan kepercayaan masyarakat pribumi di Malaysia, khususnya masyarakat Iban di Sarawak. This study is an effort to archive and conserve the belief of Mali as an intangible culture. The studies have discovered the belief of Mali is still regard as a heritage in the form of collective memory. This belief is still practice by the Iban although they have converted to the new religion of Islam and Christian. It is this studies aspiration to produce a comprehensive understanding concerning the custom and belief of the indigenous community in Malaysia especially the Iban in Sarawak. Iš atliktų mokslinių tyrimų rezultatų matyti, kad gamindami betoną galime naudoti įvairias atliekas. Jomis galime pakeisti natūralius užpildus, suteikdami betonui ypatingų savybių. Šiuo metu atliekų tvarkymas ir utilizavimas yra itin aktuali ekologinė problema. Todėl intensyviai atliekami tyrimai norint betono mišiniams panaudoti atliekas – tiek technogenines, statybines, tiek buitines.

This research was conducted to explore how the ‘Read and Record Project’ could help motivate struggling Malaysian primary ESL readers to read. This paper will report on motivating effects of the ‘Read and Record Project’ towards struggling readers. A case study was employed as the research design and four instruments were used to collect the data which were semi-structured interview, observation notes, and reflective journal. The data collected were analysed thematically. The participants were chosen through purposive sampling. Before this study was carried out, a preliminary study was done in a primary school located in Betong, Sarawak. From the preliminary study, four struggling readers from Year 3 were chosen to participate in the ‘Read and Record Project’. Findings revealed five elements of the project that could help motivate struggling readers to read through the project. The elements include independent learning, parents’ involvement, video production, sense of accomplishment, and fun learning. To conclude, the findings proved that the ‘Read and Record Project’ could enhance the motivation to read among struggling Malaysian primary ESL readers.

Sago palms are mainly cultivated in Sarawak, especially in the Mukah and Betong division, for consumption and export purposes. The starches produced from the sago are mostly for food products such as noodles, traditional food such as tebaloi, and animal feeds. Nowadays, the sago palm and its maturity detection are done manually, and it is crucial to ensure the productivity of starch. The existing detection methods are very laborious and time-consuming since the plantation areas are vast. The improved CNN model has been developed in this paper to detect the maturity of the sago palm. The detection is done by using drone photos based on the shape of the sago palm canopy. The model is developed by combining the architecture of three existing CNN models, AlexNet, Xception, and ResNet. The proposed model, CraunNet, gives 85.7% accuracy with 11 minutes of learning time based on five-fold-validation. Meanwhile, the training time of the CraunNet is almost two times faster than the existing models, ResNet and Xception. It shows that the computation cost in the CraunNet is much faster than the established model.

The Ngajat is a traditional dance which synonym with the ethnic of Iban in Sarawak. This dance is usually performed in festive such as the Gawai Dayak and matrimony. The purpose of the dance is to entertain and showing gratitude for the attended guest. In Iban’s culture, the Ngajat dance can be divided in two categories by referring to gender, which are Ngajat Indu (Female’s dance) and Ngajat Laki (Male’s dance). Other than that, the Ngajat dance have significant meaning and scared in the Iban’s culture depending on the ritual performed by the ethnic itself. Therefore, this is an ethnography study emphasized on the intangible culture of the Iban’s Ngajat. This study applied the qualitative method of exploratory research and exploring a concept of phenomena through conducting field work and interview with an expert in the Iban’s culture. The studies sites are located in Betong and Sri Aman which have the largest Iban’s settlement in Sarawak. The studies find the Ngajat dance still widely practised and there is an effort to conserve the traditional dance to prevent it from extinction.

Pastarosios aplinkos poveikis gelžbetoniui mažai tyrinėtas. Tačiau nustatyta, jog naftos gaminiai su mažu rūgšties kiekiu yra fiziněs-cheminės medžiagos, veikiančios betoną. Aprašomi bandymų duomenys, kurie rodo tų medžagų poveikį betono gniuždymo stiprumui. Lyginant įvairių naftos gaminių įtaką betono gniuždymo stiprumui, galima sakyti, kad toji įtaka labai įvairi: nuo parafininės naftos, kuri beveik neturi jokios įtakos betonui, iki kai kurių naftos gaminių, veikiančių taip, kad betono stiprumas sumažėja 30–50%. Betono tarša angliavandeniliais gali sukurti beveik naują, medžiagą, turinčią visai kitokių savybių.

Despite many job opportunities in the market and the challenges they have to face, some minority of the Saribas Malay community in Betong, Sarawak is still maintaining traditional subsistence activities in food production based on the nipah tree (locally known as apong) such as gula apong, garam apong cuka apong, jarik mayang, air sadap and the sago tree (locally known as mulong) produce, lemantak. This research examines the choice of subsistence strategies and settlement pattern of the Malay community who inhabit the Saribas region. Through the in-depth interview and participant observation, the finding suggested that reliance on a river as the main highway to connect them to the other parts of Sarawak and river as a source of marine resources determine the choice of linear settlement pattern along the river. The results also suggest that river terrestrial resources; apong and mulong accessibility and abundance availability that influence the community in continuing the traditional subsistence activities (apong and mulong based food production) related to those flora source. As such, the assemblage of material culture that exist within the Saribas Malay community is the representation and manifestation of their choice of settlement pattern and subsistence activities.

Thermoplastic composite panel can be used for a variety of applications. The wide distribution, renewability and recyclability of lignocelluloses can expand the market for low-cost thermoplastic composites. Lignocellulosic materials from fast growing and plantation species such as lesser-known timber, bamboo and palm tree are promising materials for particulate filler for the production of thermoplastic composite panel due to its accessibility, great substrate behaviour and high yield resources. This study was to determine the physico-mechanical properties of thermoplastic composite panel reinforced with particulate fillers from kelempayan (Neolamarckia cadamba), oil palm (Elaeis guineensis) and betong bamboo (Dendrocalamus asper). This study focused on the effect of particle size and three percent additive to dimensional stability and strength properties of a panel. The polypropylene plastic has been blended with the particulate fillers in a dispersion mixture at the temperature of 180 °C. Then, it was hot pressed for five to nine minutes and the mold was cold pressed for three minutes before the panel was conditioned for testing performance. Statistical analysis has proven that different particle sizes and the supplementary of three percent additive significantly influenced the physico-mechanical properties of the thermoplastic composite panel.

Permintaan benih yang berkualitas terus meningkat seiring dengan meningkatnya produksi untuk memenuhi permintaan pasar. Salah satu kendala dalam penyediaan benih ikan lele terjadi pada musim kemarau, di mana induk betina mengalami penurunan performa reproduksi. Salah satu alternatif pemecahan masalah tersebut adalah melalui manajemen pemeliharaan induk dengan manipulasi lingkungan. Tujuan dari uji coba ini adalah untuk mengevaluasi performa reproduksi dari induk-induk betina ikan lele pada musim kemarau yang dipelihara di dalam ruangan (indoor) dibandingkan dengan di luar ruangan (outdoor). Uji coba ini terdiri atas dua perlakuan pemeliharaan induk-induk betina ikan lele selama dua bulan, yaitu pemeliharaan secara indoor dalam bak beton dan pemeliharaan secara outdoor dalam bak beton dan kolam tanah. Hasil uji coba ini menunjukkan bahwa induk-induk betina ikan lele yang dipelihara secara indoor pada musim kemarau memiliki performa reproduksi yang lebih baik daripada yang dipelihara secara outdoor, yakni 94,72% induk matang gonad (dibandingkan 20,46% pada bak beton outdoor dan 15,87% pada kolam tanah outdoor), nilai indeks ovisomatik sebesar 15,27 ± 4,2% (dibandingkan 11,70 ± 4,19% pada bak beton outdoor dan 8,18 ± 2,10% pada kolam tanah outdoor) dan fekunditas sebesar 115.546 ± 22.426 butir/kg induk (dibandingkan 71.322 ± 32.768 butir/kg induk pada bak beton outdoor dan 59.402 ± 15.246 butir/kg induk pada kolam tanah outdoor)
