Abstract:
Introduction. In the paper, the author analyzes the principle of good faith in contractual performance under the common law of Canada and carry out a legal analysis of one of the key judicial precedents that is in relation to the designated area and that was adopted by the Supreme Court of Canada in 2014, i.e. Bhasin v. Hrynew case. The study is focused on the principle of good faith contractual performance under the law of the Canadian province of Quebec as well.Materials and methods. The material for the study consists of the judicial precedents of Canadian courts as well as the papers of foreign and Russian researchers in the field of civil law. The methodological basis of research comprises general scientific methods of cognition (analysis, synthesis, analogy) as well as specific ones, i.e. the comparative legal method, the formal logical method, the systematic method, methods of structure and function and the method of interpretation.Results. The author conducts a detailed analysis of Bhasin v. Hrynew case and determines the role of this precedent in the common law of Canada as well as the criteria for identifying the principle and a duty of good faith contractual performance. The author also analyzes the principle of good faith under the law of Quebec, i.e. the relevant jurisprudence and the codification of this principle in the legislation of Quebec.Discussion and conclusion. The distinction of the principle of good faith in the performance of contractual obligations as a freestanding principle of Canada’s common law is justified. The Bhasin v. Hrynew case is a vivid illustration of the growing role of the principle of good faith in the countries of the common law tradition. Furthermore, the convergence of Canada’s common law and the law of the province of Quebec, the only one among ten provinces and three territories of Canada that clearly adheres to civil law tradition, is an impact on this precedent.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In 2014 the Supreme Court of Canada in Bhasin v Hrynew formally but cautiously acknowledged good faith as a general organising principle of contractual performance at common law and that the principle largely manifests by way of implied terms and through the new duty of honesty. Rejecting English recalcitrance on the subject, the SCC concluded that recognising a good faith principle makes the common law less unsettled and piecemeal, more coherent and just. The article suggests that the limitations placed on the good faith principle by the SCC make its potential adoption in Scotland offer more opportunity than risk, especially in relation to the exercise of contractual discretions and contractual remedies.

A three-body model proposed earlier (S. Kumar and V. S. Bhasin, Phys. Rev.C65, 034007 (2002)) to set up the wave function of 11 Li is extended to investigate structural properties of 11 Li like matter radius, momentum distributions of the halo neutrons and the core(c), and n–n and n–c correlations. The energies and widths of experimentally observed resonant states of 11 Li in continuum have been calculated by employing the complex scaling method. The model is further extended to study the β-decay of 11 Li to the decay modes: (i) deuteron + 9 Li channel and (ii) 11 Be * (18.3 MeV) state. The results obtained are found to be in reasonably good agreement with the experimental data.

Abstract:
Few events have been more important to the history of modern South Asia than the partition of the subcontinent into India and Pakistan in 1947. The coming of partition has cast a powerful shadow on historical reconstructions of the decades before 1947, while the ramifications of partition have continued to leave their mark on subcontinental politics fifty years after the event.Yet, neither scholars of British India nor scholars of Indian nationalism have been able to find a compelling place for partition within their larger historical narratives (Pandey 1994, 204–5). For many British empire historians, partition has been treated as an illustration of the failure of the “modernizing” impact of colonial rule, an unpleasant blip on the transition from the colonial to the postcolonial worlds. For many nationalist Indian historians, it resulted from the distorting impact of colonialism itself on the transition to nationalism and modernity, “the unfortunate outcome of sectarian and separatist politics,” and “a tragic accompaniment to the exhilaration and promise of a freedom fought for with courage and valour” (Menon and Bhasin 1998, 3).

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background Various components of appliances used in fixed orthodontic treatment are fabricated from materials that are highly resistant in nature and have high strength and biocompatibility. Corrosion of materials occurs inside the oral cavity due to numerous environmental or oral factors that act on them. These factors include temperature, pH variation, salivary conditions, mechanical loads, microbiological and enzymatic activity, and various food components. Gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) is the material obtained from the gingival sulcus and might act as a potential source for various biomarkers in the orthodontic setup because inflammatory-induced response is directly related to orthodontic forces in GCF. In the light of above-mentioned data, we planned this study to assess and evaluate the changes occurring in nickel and chromium levels in the GCF during fixed orthodontic treatment. Materials and methods This study included assessment of 30 patients who underwent fixed orthodontic treatment. Three samples were taken from the GCF of the patients giving a total of 90 samples. The samples were collected at the following time intervals: At baseline (pretreatment time), 1 month after the start of orthodontic treatment, and at 6 months after the commencement of orthodontic treatment. Cellulose strips were used for isolation of the tooth region. For GCF collection, a standardized cellulose acetate absorbent strip was used. Placement of the strips was done in the sulcus for 60 seconds for the collection of the samples. Refrigeration of the specimen bottles was done for a minimum of 7 days and was then sent to a laboratory where specimens were transferred for atomic absorption spectrophotometry. All the results were analyzed by Statistical Package for the Social Sciences software. Results At 1 month, the mean value of nickel and chromium in GCF was found to be 4.5 and 4.9 μg/gm of GCF respectively. While comparing the mean nickel levels between 1 and 6 months and between baseline and 6 months, significant results were obtained. Significant results were also obtained while comparing the mean values of chromium in GCF between baseline and 6 months and between 1 and 6 months. Gingival health index of the patients was found to be associated with increased inflammation with the progression of time of orthodontic treatment. Conclusion Levels of nickel and chromium might show considerable elevation in the GCF with time along with an increase in the severity of inflammation in the gingival health in patients undergoing fixed orthodontic treatment. Clinical significance Regular oral prophylaxis of the patients undergoing orthodontic treatment should be done to avoid toxicities caused by the release of nickel and chromium and for maintenance of good oral hygiene and oral health. Abstract:
Background: Stature as is one such important anthropometric parameter which helps in personal identification of an individual. The present study attempts to reconstruct stature from some selected cephalometric measurements among 200 male Muslims of Manipur by using standard measurement techniques. Methods: For the purpose of present study, eight cephalometric dimensions of each subject along with their stature were collected from 200 male Manipuri Muslims, (age between 20 to 60 years) of the four valley districts of Manipur viz. Imphal east, Imphal west, Thoubal and Bishnupur following the methods of Singh and Bhasin and Nath. Results: Data analysis reveals significant co-relation between stature and various cephalometric measurements under study. Total facial height shows the highest correlation co-efficient value (r=0.381) while Upper facial height the least (r=0.112). Multiplication factors are found to vary from other populations of Manipur so far studied thus revealing inter- population variation within the state. Simple regression equations for estimating stature are also formulated for these population. Conclusions: The findings of the estimation of stature using multiplication factor and Linear regression equation on the present population varies from the findings on other populations studied by other researchers. Hence in conclusion, it is confirmed that means of stature estimation i.e. multiplication factors and regression equations are population specific. Therefore, derived formulae for a population should not be used to other populations.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Introduction Numerous appliances are present for the management of class II malocclusion. We have conducted a study to compare the clinical complications during treatment with either a removable mandibular acrylic splint (RMS) or with a cantilever Herbst (HC) appliance for the management of class II malocclusion. Materials and methods This study consisted of records of 114 patients (61 males, 53 females), who were divided into two groups. Group I received RMS and group II received HC for the treatment of class II, Division 1 malocclusion. They were further subdivided according to the telescopic system used [Dentaurum type I or propulsor mandibular abzil (PMA)] and fixation mode (splint with crowns or GripTite bands). Patients’ clinical records were assessed to identify clinical complications. Results The results of the study showed that the incidence of complications during treatment in both groups was statistically nonsignificant. The complications with either crown or band were also statistically nonsignificant. The Dentaurum group showed more susceptibility to complications than the PMA group. Conclusion The PMA telescopic system is more efficient as compared with Dentaurum. Complication resulting from Herbst appliance is independent type of appliance used and mode of fixation. Clinical significance Herbst appliance is the treatment of choice for class II malocclusion. How to cite this article Kanuru RK, Bhasin V, Khatri A, Dodda KK, Singh E, Grover S. Abstract:
ABSTRACT The gastroenteropancreatic (GEP) neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) are rare tumors and include all tumors arising from the gastrointestinal (GI) or pancreatic neuroendocrine cells. They can occur anywhere in the GI tract with the small intestine, pancreas and rectum being the common GI sites. Because of nonspecific symptoms they are difficult to diagnose and diagnosis is often delayed by years. Advancement in cross-sectional imaging techniques and advent of radionuclide-labeled somatostatin analogs have improved our accuracy of diagnosis and staging GEP NETs. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) with its unique combination of endoscopy and ultrasound provides high resolution images of GI tract wall as well as the surrounding solid parenchymal organs and therefore is an important investigation for the diagnosis and staging of GEP NETs. Surgery is the treatment of choice with good long-term results in patients with localized GEP-NETs. Control of symptoms in functional NETs is warranted to improve the quality of life of the patient. Somatostatin and its analogs like octreotide and lanreotide have been used to control symptoms because of functional NETs. The management of metastatic GEP NETs includes control of symptoms and therapy to decrease/stop tumor growth that includes somatostatin and its analogs and chemotherapy. Newer therapeutic modalities like peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) and molecular therapy hold considerable promise. How to cite this article Rana SS, Sharma V, Bhasin DK. Purposive sampling was used to recruit the participants, who were from high and low socioeconomic status (SES) groups and in the age group of 18–58 years. Results: Different factors influence alcohol consumption in high and low SES groups. The age of initiation is now as low as 10–12 years, attributable to the recent trend of increased accessibility. The participants agreed that alcohol consumption has now become a more acceptable part of daily living, whereas earlier it was limited to special occasions and festivals. This has contributed to an increase in drinking. Drinking among women was earlier a taboo, but now women (mainly of high SES), are often seen drinking at social gatherings. The respondents mentioned weak enforcement of regulatory policies related to alcohol consumption and sales. Conclusions: A shift in attitudes was observed towards drinking. Drinking is increasingly seen as a part of daily life. The availability of alcohol is perceived to be increasing and restrictions on sale are not effectively enforced. There is an urgent need to re-evaluate the alcohol policy from a public health perspective in India.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Statement of problem Few cephalometric analyses have been put forward to assess the treatment outcome after orthodontic treatment. However, these analyses are somewhat complicated and time consuming. The Tetragon analysis is introduced with measurement of treatment outcome as one of its objectives. Purpose of study The study was undertaken to evaluate the treatment outcome by checking the skeletal and dental changes using pretreatment and post-treatment radiographs and to evaluate the efficiency of treatment in the Department of Orthodontics, College of Dental Sciences, Davangere, using the Tetragon analysis. Materials and methods Records of 35 finished patients with fixed orthodontic therapy using preadjusted edgewise appliance were selected. The samples were analyzed separately for the skeletal parameters consisting of skeletal class I, II and III using Tetragon analysis. Results The post-treatment reduction of upper incisor palatal plane angle was found to be statistically significant in skeletal class I (p < 0.01) and skeletal class II patients (p < 0.05). The post-treatment increase in interincisal angle was found to be statistically significant in skeletal class I (p < 0.01) class II patients (p < 0.05). Conclusion Fixed appliance therapy reduced the proclination of upper incisors and increased the interincisal angle in skeletal class I and II cases but not in skeletal class III cases. The lower incisal angulation and the maxilla-mandibular plane angle did change significantly and so were the angles of the Trigon. The Tetragon analysis proved easy to measure the treatment outcome. ABSTRACT Background and aims The appendix may be involved in ulcerative colitis (UC) to variable extent. Clinical significance of appendicular involvement is not clear and it has long been considered an innocent bystander. This study prospectively investigated appendiceal histology and its clinical significance in patients with UC. Materials and methods Colonoscopy was performed in 60 patients and biopsies were taken from appendiceal orifice, cecum, and colon. Appendiceal histology was classified as active if there was presence of neutrophils with crypt distortion. Inactive inflammation was defined as positive for crypt distortion and negative for neutrophils. Otherwise the histology was reported as normal or nonspecific changes. The patients were followed for a minimum period of 6 months. Results In patients evaluated endoscopically, 63% patients had histological involvement of the appendiceal orifice. Pancolitis was seen more commonly in patients with appendicular orifice inflammation than in patients with normal appendicular histology (44.7 vs 9%, p = 0.001). Most patients with appendiceal orifice inflammation had involvement of the cecum. Skip lesion of the appendix without cecum involvement was seen in 37% of the patients. The patients with appendiceal orifice inflammation had a significantly higher grade of endoscopic colitis compared to patients with normal histology (p = 0.006). Relapse rate was higher in patients with appendiceal orifice inflammation than in patients with normal appendiceal histology (18.4 vs 9%), although the difference was insignificant (p = 0.329). Conclusion Appendicular involvement in ulcerative colitis is not uncommon. Its involvement may predict the course, extent, and severity of colitis. Abstract:
We recently reported increased leg lean mass and strength in men with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) receiving 10 wk of testosterone (T) and leg resistance training (R) (Casaburi R, Bhasin S, Cosentino L, Porszasz J, Somfay A, Lewis M, Fournier M, Storer T. Am J Respir Crit Care Med 170: 870–878, 2004). The present study evaluates the role of muscle IGF and related factors as potential mechanisms for our findings, using quadriceps muscle biopsies from the same cohort. Patient groups were 1) weekly placebo (P) injections + no R; 2) P and R; 3) weekly injections of T + no R; and 4) T + R (TR). Muscle fibers were classified histochemically, and their cross-sectional areas (CSAs) and fiber density (number of fibers per unit area) were determined. Gene transcripts were determined by real-time PCR and protein expression by RIA. While no significant changes in fiber CSAs were noted across groups, increased trends were observed after 10 wk, and significant decrements in muscle fiber density were noted in all treated groups. A global increase in all myosin heavy chain (MyHC) mRNA isoforms was observed in TR patients. Muscle IGF-IEa and IGF-IEc mRNAs were significantly increased with TR group. Muscle IGF-I protein was increased in all intervention groups (greatest in TR). While TR IGF-II mRNA was increased, protein levels were unaltered. IGF binding protein-4 mRNA was increased with TR. Myogenin mRNA was increased in both T groups, while MyoD and myostatin were unchanged. Muscle atrophy F-box mRNA tended to increase with TR. Our data suggest that the combined interventions produced an enhanced local anabolic milieu driven in large part by the muscle IGF system, despite potentially negative biochemical influences present in COPD patients.

Abstract:
Introduction: While advances in front-line conventional chemotherapy have increased the likelihood of attaining remission in pediatric AML, relapse rates remain high (25-35%), and novel therapies are needed (Zhang, Savage et al. 2019). The clinical and molecular heterogeneity of AML makes it complex to study and creates challenges for the development of novel therapies (Bolouri, Farrar et al. 2018). It is important to identify cells and pathways underlying relapse to facilitate development of novel therapies. Single-cell RNA Sequencing (scRNA-Seq) allows in-depth analysis of the heterogeneous AML landscape to provide a detailed view of the tumor microenvironment, revealing populations of blasts and immune cells which may be relevant to relapse or complete remission. Methods: We analyzed ~36,500 cells from 14 pediatric AML bone marrow samples in our institutional biorepository, spanning different AML subtypes and 3 healthy children to generate a comprehensive scRNA-Seq landscape of immature AML-associated blasts and microenvironment cells. Samples collected at the time of diagnosis (Dx), end of induction (EOI), and relapse (Rel) were used to generate scRNA-Seq data using a droplet-based barcoding technique (Panigrahy, Gartung et al. 2019). After normalization of scRNA-Seq data, the cell clusters were identified using principal component analysis and Uniform Manifold Approximation and Projection (UMAP) approach (Becht et al, 2018). Differential expression, pathways and systems biology analysis between relapsed and remission patients reveal differences for specific cell clusters (Panigrahy, Gartung et al. 2019). To determine the clinical outcome association of our AML blast specific markers, survival analysis was performed on AML TARGET data (https://ocg.cancer.gov/programs/target) using cox proportional hazard survival approach. To characterize AML blast cells with high accuracy, we used support vector machine (SVM), an Artificial Intelligence based feature extraction and model development approach (Bhasin, Ndebele et al. 2016). Results:ScRNA-Seq analysis of paired Dx and EOI samples using UMAP identified three blast cell clusters with significant gene expression differences among different patients, indicating heterogeneity of AML blast cells (Fig 1a, b). Comparative analysis of the three Dx enriched blast cell clusters with other cells identified a "core blast cell signature" with overexpression of genes like AZU1, CLEC11A, FLT3, and NREP (Fig 1c). These core AML-blast genes were linked to significant activation of the Wnt/Ca2+, Phospholipase C, and integrin signaling pathways (Z score >2 and P-value <.001). A subset of AML blast-specific genes also depicted significant association with poorer overall survival (CLEC11A Hazard ratio (HR)=1.9 ;95% CI=1.1-3.4;log-rank P=.03, FLT3 HR=2.4(1.5-3.9);P<0.001,NREP HR=1.9(1.2-3.1); P<0.008) (Fig 1d). Furthermore, we developed a highly sensitive 7-gene AML blast cell signature that distinguished AML blasts from normal myeloblasts and other hematopoietic cells (Area Under Curve of 0.94) using SVM. The scRNA-Seq of AML specific blast cells from relapsed and remission samples exhibited a different clustering pattern indicating different transcriptome landscapes. Relapse-associated AML cell clusters expressed high levels of AZU1, S100A4, LGALS1, and GRK2 genes (Fig 2a). Analysis of the non-AML tumor microenvironment demonstrated enrichment of T/NK in relapsed samples, with differential expression of T cell regulatory/activation genes (Fig 2b, c). ScRNA-Seq showed enrichment of monocyte/macrophage cell clusters in remission samples with distinct relapse- and remission-specific clusters. Remission associated macrophage/monocyte clusters showed overexpression of S100A10, FTH1, CST3 and IFITM2 genes (Fig 2d). Similarly, enrichment of T cell and monocyte/macrophage clusters was observed in relapse and remission samples respectively during EOI. Conclusions: Using single cell transcriptomics we developed a novel potential gene signature to characterize heterogenous AML blast populations with high sensitivity. These genes and the pathways they regulate implicate potential therapeutic targets in pediatric AML. Single cell transcriptome analysis also enabled identification of cell clusters with modulated gene expression at both Dx and EOI that may be useful in predicting relapse/remission. Abstract:
ABSTRACT Introduction There exist a number of factors that affect the outcome of orthodontic treatment. These factors can be assessed by various gingival markers. One such maker is myeloperoxidase (MPO). Hence, we planned the present study to assess and compare the MPO activity in the gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of subjects undergoing orthodontic treatment by different aligning arch wires. Materials and methods The present study included assessment of patients who underwent orthodontic treatment for crowding of anterior teeth. Diagnostic cast models of all the subjects were made for recording the irregularity index. All the subjects were randomly divided into three study groups with 15 patients in each group based on the type of nickel–titanium (NiTi) arch wires used. A collection of GCF samples was done in all the patients at various time intervals and it was sent to the laboratory for assessment of MPO activity. Activity of the MPO enzyme was expressed in terms of number of units per 100 µL. All the results obtained were compiled and analyzed by Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software. Results We observed that nonsignificant results were obtained while comparing the mean age and mean gingival score in all the study groups. However, significant results were obtained on comparing the mean MPO enzymatic activity in all the study groups at different time intervals. Conclusion Both superelastic NiTi and heat-activated NiTi generate optimal forces, which are necessary for higher metabolic response of the periodontal ligament. Clinical significance In the intimal stages of orthodontic treatment, both superelastic NiTi and heat-activated NiTi wires are superior in leveling and aligning the crowded teeth. Abstract:
Mortality is a continuous force of attrition, tending to reduce the population, a prime negative force in the balance of vital processes (Bhasin and Nag, 2004). Sample Registration System (SRS) serves as the only source of annual data on vital events on a full scale from 1969-70 in India. Few studies have examined the trends and patterns of mortality across time and regions in India (Preston and Bhat, 1984). The Under 5 Mortality Rates (U5MR) can be seen to decrease by more than half from 1970 to 2017 but in contrast little is known about the mortality patterns of the older children (5-9) and young adolescents (10-14), and not many studies have been done on their changing trends (Masquelier et al., 2018). Using the annual data for the 5-14 age, the trend of decline in the mortality patterns is studied from 1970 to 2013. The linear trend in the time series plot suggests analysis using time series models AR(p), MA(q), ARMA(p,q), Box- Jenkins ARIMA(p,d,q) and Random Walk with drift models to get the best fit to the trend of the data. The order of the time series models have been calculated by studying the ACF, PACF plots and the coefficients have been derived using the Yule-Walker equation matrix. An in-sample forecast of the years 2014-17 are taken. The Mean Squared Error (MSE) and the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE) as a measure of accuracy is used to determine the best fit model. ARIMA(3,1,1) produced lower values making it the best-fit model. Out-of-sample forecasting was done for 2018-2025. The forecast value shows that at the current trend, India would have 0.03 deaths per 1000 population in the 5-14 age group in 2025 showing that the government’s policies and health care interventions towards realization of the MDG4 goal is working positively.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background Saliva is a complex fluid, whose important role is to maintain the well being of oral cavity. Salivary gland hypofunction or hyposalivation is the condition of having reduced saliva production which leads to the subjective complaint of oral dryness termed xerostomia.7 Management of xerostomia includes palliative therapy using topical agents or systemic therapy. Electrostimulation to produce saliva was studied in the past and showed moderate promise but never became part of mainstream therapy. Hence, this study was undertaken to evaluate the effect of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) on whole salivary flow rate in healthy adults and to evaluate how long this effect of TENS lasts on salivary flow. Materials and methods One hundred healthy adult subjects were divided into five age groups with each group containing 20 subjects equally divided into males and females in each group. Unstimulated saliva was collected using a graduated test tube fitted with funnel and quantity was measured. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation unit was activated and stimulated saliva was collected. Saliva was again collected 30 minutes and 24 hours post stimulation. Results The mean unstimulated whole saliva flow rate for all subjects (n = 100) was 2.60 ml/5 min. During stimulation, it increased to 3.60 ± 0.39 ml/5 min. There was 38.46% increase in salivary flow. Ninety six out of 100 responded positively to TENS therapy. Salivary flow remained increased 30 minutes and 24 hours post stimulation with the values being 3.23 ± 0.41 ml/5 min and 2.69 ± 0.39 ml/5 min respectively. Repeated measures One way analysis of variance (ANOVA) test showed that the difference between these values were statistically significant. Conclusion Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation therapy was effective for stimulation of whole saliva in normal, healthy subjects and its effect retained till 30 minutes and a little up to 24 hours. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation may work best synergistically with other sialagogues and can be used for the management of xerostomia. Abstract:
Abstract Accurate measures of forest site productivity are essential for forest-management planning. The most common measure of site productivity is breast height–age site index (BHASI)—the expected height at a reference age. Error from including early growth in productivity estimates and limited applicability of any one BHASI model warrant development of alternative methods. Exploring alternatives may only be necessary if regional BHASI models are not accurately predicting growth rates. We compared modeled height growth rates for Rocky Mountain Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii var. glauca) to felled-tree measurements to evaluate relative performance of a regional BHASI model. An orthogonal sampling design ensured samples were collected across a range of site factors known to influence Douglas-fir growth rates. Growth rates for each 10 m section were calculated and compared to BHASI modeled growth rates. The regional BHASI model underpredicted growth rates from breast height to 30 m. Observed growth rates from 10 to 30 m accounted for the majority of underprediction relative to BHASI modeled growth rates. An alternative multipoint method of defining site productivity is described. More research comparing BHASI and alternative methods is needed, given the growth rate error associated with one-point site productivity assessment.

Abstract:
An analysis of the present day Hindi, as spoken in the northern part of India, brings to light the fact that this language has at least twenty vowel phonemes, and not simply thirteen. Twelve of these twenty vowel phonemes are oral while eight of them are nasalized. Eighteen of them are pure vowels (monophthongs) while two of them are diphthongs. Two of the thirteen vowels included in the current list of alphabet have given place to two consonants with the result that they have ceased to exist. Most of these vowel phonemes occur in all the three positions, namely initial, medial and final, in the Hindi words. References Agnihotri, Rama Kant. (2007). Hindi: An Essential Grammar. Abstract:
Bhasan char is a coastal island at Hatiya Upzilla of Noakhali District. It is a single char which has been uncovered from the Bay of Bengal a few years back. An emergency humanitarian project implemented by the Bangladesh government at this coastal island “Bhasan Char”, from September 2017, to temporarily rehabilitate a portion of incoming Rohingya refugees before they can repatriate to their homeland, Myanmar. Under this project, Government of Bangladesh (GoB) carried out land development, construction of embankment as well as other infrastructures. Upon repatriation of Rohingya's to Myanmar, we can use the developed land & surroundings as exclusive tourist zone. This paper is an outline to establish Bhasan Char as an exclusive tourist spot and a feasibility analysis of an off-grid hybrid energy generation system for this proposed tourism spot. Here, we had conducted a hypothetical zonal design, energy estimation, off-grid energy distribution, energy generation and a sustainable tariff plan for this exclusive zone in modular basis.

Abstract:
Bhasma Mantra was delivered by Bhatara to Bhatari. This narrative seems very different from the early part of the text of Bhūwana Kosha. Bhasma Mantra is chapter VII of the XI chapter contained in Bhūwana Kosha. Chapter VII consists of 30 slokas. Bhasma Mantra is one part of the text of Bhūwana Kosha which explains the subject of bhasma [ashes]. The intended ash is Ongkara as a result of burning Brahma mantra into the Fire of Dampati. The Dampati fire is composed of two pairs namely the Ongkara [Purusha] and Ukara [Pradhana]. Bhasma Mantra itself is the body of Shiva. This teaching was delivered by Shiva to Uma. The practice can be found in worship rituals performed by Pandhita or sadhaka. The notion of bhasma does not only stop at ashes. Bhasma in the next stage is divided into two senses, namely sakala bhasma and niskala bhasma. Bhasma Sakala is the body, while bhasma niskala is jñāna.

Abstract:
Government of Bangladesh (GoB) is implementing an emergency humanitarian project at coastal island Bhasan Char under Hatiya of Noakhali District, from September 2017 to temporarily rehabilitate a portion of incoming Rohinga refugees before they can repatriate to their home land, Myanmar. Under this project, GoB will carry out land development, construction of embankment as well as other infrastructures. This study is aimed at providing partial basic energy support to the government’s initiative of rehabilitating 103,200 Rohinga refugees. Under the study, we check the feasibility of establishing off-grid sustainable energy system. We also perform the financial analysis of the proposed energy system by considering 20 years life-span of the project. Our study shows that annual average solar insolation in Bhasan char is 4.82kWh/m2/day and daily bright sunshine hour varies from 3 hours to 11 hours. Wind flow data of Bhasan char shows the average annual wind speed of 3.74m/s which is available round the clock and throughout the year. These data justify the suitability of environment friendly off-grid solar energy system as well as wind energy system for Bhasan Char. However, considering the effective generation hours, to diversify energy sources and basing on analysis result using HOMER (Hybrid Optimization of Multiple Energy Resources) software – we are proposing a hybrid energy system with 40% contribution from wind and rest 60% from solar. Our financial analysis of the project shows a total cost of 43.848 Crore (USD 0.525 Crore) over 20-year life span. Therefore, a BDT 2.192 Crore/year is quite economical and justifiable, considering the long-term impact that it might provide to displaced 103,200 refugees as well as the solution that we are providing to adverse negative socio-economic impact on Bangladesh from Rohinga issue.

Abstract:
According to Rasa Ratna Samucchaya, Kantalauha is considered as the best variety among Lauhas for Lauha Bhasma compared with Tikshna and Munda Lauha. The present study deals with the “Preparation of Kantalauha bhasma by two different methods and its Sindoora Nirmana- A Comparative Pharmaceutico-Analytical Study. Two different Kantalauha Bhasma and their Kanta Sindoora were prepared as per classical reference and the samples were subjected to Classical and Modern Analytical Parameters, XRD, EDX, SEM, FT-IR, and NPST. Pharmaceutically Kantalauha Bhasma 1 has attained Bhasma Siddhi Lakshanas in 16 Putas and Kantalauha Bhasma 2 in 3 Putas. Both the samples of Kanta Sindoora attained Sindoora Varna by 3 Putas. SEM analysis showed that Kantalauha Bhasma 1 and Kanta Sindoora 1 attained the smallest particle size. XRD showed the presence of compound Fe2O3 in all the samples. EDAX confirmed the presence of Fe, O2, Mg, Al, Si, S, K and Ca. The FT-IR analysis of all the samples shows the presence of 10 Absorption Peak frequencies cm-1. NPST proved the fineness and proper formation of Bhasma samples. Among the two different methods of Kantalauha Bhasma preparation, the 1st method is found better in yield wise and cost-wise. The second method saved the time as it attained Bhasma Siddhi Lakshanas within 3 puts. In the case of Kanta Sindoora, yield wise both the samples were found almost the same.
