To improve the estimation accuracy of non-data-aided (NDA) signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) estimators at low SNR value, A novel estimation technique for binary phase-shift keying and quadrature phase-shift keying signals in complex additive white Gaussian noise channel is proposed. The mathematical relation between SNR and the ratio of two simple statistical computations is derived, then SNR is determined by looking up a table. Its accuracy surpasses other NDA estimators, approaching closely to the Cramer-Rao lower bound at SNR > 5dB.

In this paper, we investigated the low density parity check (LDPC) coded performances of slow-frequency-hopped binary phase shift-keying (SFH/BPSK) systems in the presence partial-band interference (PBI). The contributions of this paper are two folds. First, we give the bits error probability (BER) of the SFH/BPSK system with PBI by analysis, and further verify it by numerical results. Second, we investigated the effects of code rate, code length, the number of symbols per hop (SPH) and interleaver on the performance of the SFH/BPSK system with PBI by numerical simulation.

In this chapter three optical modulation techniques such as on off keying (OOK), binary phase shift keying (BPSK), differential phase shift keying (DPSK) are evaluated in terms of Q-factor and bit error rate (BER) in order to assess their suitability in typical indoor optical wireless communication. The modulated signals are subjected to additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and florescent light interference (FLI) representative of practical scenarios. The received signals are demodulated with and without using matched filter (MF). The BER in both the cases are evaluated through simulation studies using MATLAB and compared for each of the three modulated signals. It has been observed that in each of the demodulation process the rate of reduction of BER is significant when the demodulation is done by using MF.

In this chapter, a green radio transmission using the binary phase-shift keying (BPSK) modulated orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) signal is addressed. First, the OFDM transmission signal is clearly stated. For a specified performance of the system, the least transmit power occurs by the optimal OFDM shape, which is designed to minimize the average inter-carrier interference power taking into account the characteristic of the transmit antenna and the detection process at the receiver. The optimal waveform is obtained by applying the calculus of variations, which leads to a set of differential equations (known as Euler equations) with constraint and boundary conditions. Results show the transmission effectiveness of the proposed technique in the shaping of the signal, as well as its potential to be further applied to smart context-aware green wireless communications.
