Abstract:
Section 1 of this article discusses the concept of bibliographical control and makes a distinction between this term, “bibliographical description,” and related terms, which are often confused in the literature. It further discusses the function of bibliographical control and criticizes Patrick Wilson’s distinction between “exploitative control” and “descriptive control.” Section 2 presents projects for establishing bibliographic control from the Library of Alexandria to the Internet and Google, and it is found that these projects have often been dominated by a positivist dream to make all information in the world available to everybody. Section 3 discusses the theoretical problems of providing comprehensive coverage and retrieving documents represented in databases and argues that 100% coverage and retrievability is an unobtainable ideal. It is shown that bibliographical control has been taken very seriously in the field of medicine, where knowledge of the most important findings is of utmost importance. In principle, it is equally important in all other domains. The conclusion states that the alternative to a positivist dream of complete bibliographic control is a pragmatic philosophy aiming at optimizing bibliographic control supporting specific activities, perspectives, and interests.

Abstract:
In addition to a list of valid names and synonyms, as provided by the Trichoptera World Checklist, access to the primary literature itself is essential for research in Trichoptera taxonomy and systematics. To improve access to bibliographic information, we established the Trichoptera Literature Database, http://www.trichopteralit.umn.edu, a bibliographic database of over 8,500 citations of literature on Trichoptera. In addition to compiling bibliographical information, we provided access to over 450 high quality Portable Document Format files (PDFs) of historically important, rare, or out-of-print older works as well as more current literature. To provide universal web access to this bibliographical resource, we constructed a dynamic, custom-designed, web application (PHP, Symfony framework) created to import Extensible Markup Language (XML) from the EndNote data file. The database allows the user to search by author and year of publication, displays citations in a standard bibliographic format, and provides download links to available PDF literature. Existing bibliographies of Trichoptera literature and online access to Zoological Record databases were used to accumulate citations. Protocols for scanning literature, issues regarding copyright, and procedures for uploading citations and PDFs to the database are established. We hope to create a collaborative framework of contributors by seeking regional, subject, or language organizers from the community of Trichoptera workers to assist in completing and maintaining this resource with the goal of lowering barriers to efficient access to taxonomic information.

Abstract:
The online searching of databases to retrieve bibliographical information is increasingly becoming common research practice in a wide range of disciplines. For the scholar of African studies there is as yet no single comprehensive database covering the literature from the continent on a multi-disciplinary basis; however there are a number of existing databases which serve as a useful and up-to-date bibliographical tool. The aim of this paper is briefly to outline those currently available databases which are of relevance to African studies and to offer some suggestions as to how this valuable service may best be utilised.Online information retrieval services first became readily available to the public in the early 1970s, chiefly in the area of science and technology.

Abstract:
This paper consists of short reports on three projects which evaluated online chemical hazards services. Two were studies of bibliographical databases and one a study of databanks. Test queries were used in the evaluations. The chemical hazards bibliographic databases studied were HSEline, CISDOC, Laboratory Hazards Bulletin (LHB), Chemical Hazards in Industry (CHI), Occupational Health and Safety (NIOSH), Safety Science Abstracts (SSA), EMBASE, BIOSIS, MEDLINE and CASearch. The main conclusion reached was that whilst all the databases included relevant references none provided comprehensive coverage for the test queries. HSEline produced the highest number of relevant references and LHB and CHI also performed well, but most of the other databases were useful for some of the queries. The chemical hazards databanks compared were RTECS (Registry of Toxic Effects of Chemical Substances), HSDB (Hazardous Substances Data Bank), OHMTADS (Oil and Hazardous Materials - Technical Assistance Data - system), BAKER, CHRIS (Chemical Hazards Response Information System) and CESARS (Chemical Evaluation Search and Re trieval System). The main conclusions of the evaluation were that HSDB gives the widest subject coverage and has the longest datasheets. Its coverage of animal toxicology is as good as that of RTECS. HSDB is the best source for human toxicity information and has the same amount or more information than BAKER and CHRIS on emergency actions. RTECS concentrates on toxic effects and has little information on physical/chemical properties, manufacture, emergency han dling, chemical reactions or explosive properties. OHMTADS does not contain first aid procedures but gives concise infor mation on other emergency actions. BAKER and CHRIS are useful for substance identification, waste management and emergency spill procedures.

Abstract:
In 1974 the list of bibliographic works on the literature of Canadian art and architecture totalled 14 items, some in typescript. Since then there has been a surge of bibliographical activity including the creation of databases. Canadian art librarians are urged to lobby publishers to develop more precise index terminology and to improve indexing coverage of Canadian art periodical literature. Librarians should use the computer technology now in place to prepare exhibition histories, exhibition catalogue lists and indexes, while retaining their traditional respect for content, for bibliographic standards, and for the experience and specialized knowledge of qualified bibliographers and indexers.

The main purpose of this article is to conceptually model market efficiency of information databases in Iran. In order to achieve that, summarizing content analysis techniques was used by reviewing literatures and exploratory interviews. The study population in interviews consists of brokers selling databases in Iran. The bibliographical research has been done on efficient market related publications published in the 5-year period of 2011-2015, indexed on Science Direct, ProQuest and EBSCO information databases. It was found that fourth categories for information database efficient markets: Linearity is most important and then to order, are logic and rationality, and Information-centric, trading volume reached fourth place, so one can say the information database markets are efficient and therefore author(s) traced the conceptual model of efficient markets in Information Databases in Iran.

Abstract:
This paper aims to provide a bibliometric analysis of the literature on oral and maxillofacial surgery, comparing different databases and discussing the advantages, disadvantages, and specific features of each one. A bibliographical search for oral and maxillofacial surgery literature was conducted on Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science, Dimensions, SciELO, LILACS, and Google Scholar. Seven different search strategies were used on each database. VOSViewer and Microsoft Excel were used for tabulation and data visualization. Some statistical tests were performed with a 95% confidence interval, which was considered significant. A table comparing the number of articles obtained during seven different literature searches was created. A correlogram created in RStudio showed the correlation between the number of articles in the different databases evaluated. The functionalities of each database were compared. It is recommended to use more than one database when searching for literature related to surgery. Among the analyzed databases, PubMed stands out for its functionalities, precision, and quantity of available articles.

Abstract:
Abstract In any study of translations one must first decide what is to be counted as a “translation” and how such things are to be found, usually through recourse to bibliographical databases. We propose that, starting from the maximalist view that translations are potentially everywhere, various distribution processes impose a series of selective filters thanks to which some translations are more easily identified and accessible than others. The study of translation must be aware of these prior filters, and must know how to account for them, and sometimes how to overcome them. Research processes then necessarily impose their own selective filters, which may reduce or extend the number and kinds of translations given by prior filters. We present three research projects where the play of prior and research filters is very different. For one-off large-scale relational hypotheses, the Index Translationum is found to be relatively cost-efficient. For more detailed objects such as translation flows from Spanish into French in a specific period, a book-industry database offers significant advantages. And for a study marked by a paucity of texts, as is the case of translation from Korean into English following the Korean War, a combination of databases is necessary, the most useful turning out to be Amazon.

Abstract:
Foram feitas aplicações considerando-se um banco de dados do Centro de Informações Nucleares da CNEN (Comissão Nacional de Energia Nuclear).<br>In this work we study the solution of problems arising in the field of queries optimization in information retrieval from classical databases, through their formulation as mathematical problems in 0-1 variables. The first problem studied is the hyperbolic programming problem in 0-1 variables, for which we developed exact linear-time algorithms. The second problem studied is an extension of the former, here named as hyperbolic sum problem. For this problem we developed simulated annealing and steepest ascent-mildest descent (tabu search) heuristics, as well as exact branch-and-bound algorithms. All these methods were implemented and numerical results are presented. Concerning the problem of queries optimization, two basic problems were studied: periodical query and synthesis of new queries, which are formulated respectively as an hyperbolic programming problem and an hyperbolic sum problem. We have also done applications involving these problems, considering real data gathered from a database of Center of Nuclear Information from CNEN (Brazilian National Comission of Nucler Energy)

Ahmed, S. M. Zabed. "A user-centered design of a web-based interface to bibliographic databases." Thesis, Loughborough University, 2002. https://dspace.lboro.ac.uk/2134/6893.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis reports results of a research study into the usefulness of a user-centred approach for designing information retrieval interfaces. The main objective of the research was to examine the usability of an existing Web-based IR system in order to design a user-centred prototype Web interface. A series of usability experiments was carried out with the Web of Science. The first experiment was carried out using both novice and experienced users to see their performance and satisfaction with the interface. A set of search tasks was obtained from a user survey and was used in the study. The results showed that there were no significant differences in the time taken to complete the tasks, and the number of different search terms used between the two search groups. Novice users were significantly more satisfied with the interface than the experienced group. However, the experienced group was significantly more successful, and made fewer errors than the novice users. The second experiment was conducted on novices' learning and retention with the Web of Science using the same equipment, tasks and environment. The results of the original learning phase of the experiment showed that novices could readily pick up interface functionality when a brief training was provided. However, their retention of search skills weakened over time. Their subjective satisfaction with the interface also diminished from learning to retention. These findings suggested that the fundamental difficulties of searching IR systems still remain with the Web-based version. A heuristic evaluation was carried out to find out the usability problems in the Web of Science interface. Three human factors experts evaluate the interface. The heuristic evaluation was very helpful in identifying some interface design issues for Web IR systems. The most fundamental of these was increasing the match between system and the real world. The results of both the usability testing and the heuristic evaluations served as a baseline for designing a prototype Web interface. The prototype was designed based on a conceptual model of users' information seeking. Various usability evaluation methods were used to test the usability of the prototype system. After each round of testing, the interface was modified in accordance with the test findings. A summative evaluation of the prototype interface showed that both novice and experienced users improved their search performance. Comparative analysis with the earlier usability studies also showed significant improvements in performance and satisfaction with the prototype. These results show that user-centred methods can yield better interface design for IR systems.

Abstract:
This study reports changes in online database searching at North Texas State University when equipment speed was increased. Data were from database vendor invoices and price and sale data of online equipment. The hypotheses examined the relationship between the decrease in the cost of online equipment and the change to faster online equipment and the change in the number of databases that changed for online types. The change in equipment was related to changes in the number of offline prints per hour, the average time per search, the average number of descriptors per search, the number of searches per month, and the rank order of database use over the studied period. The increase in the number of databases with billed types was related to the number of online billed types produced. The number of prints was related to the number of billed types. Time spent online was examined for annual seasonal cycles. The major statistical tool was time-series analysis, although other methods were applied.

Full text
Abstract:
The Integrative Level Classification (ILC) research project is experimenting with a knowledge organization system based on phenomena rather than disciplines. Each phenomenon has a constant notation, which can be combined with that of any other phenomenon in a freely faceted structure. Citation order can express differential focality of the facets. Very specific subjects can have long classmarks, although their complexity is reduced by various devices. Freely faceted classification is being tested by indexing a corpus of about 3300 papers in the interdisciplinary domain of bioacoustics. The subjects of these papers often include phenomena from a wide variety of integrative levels (mechanical waves, animals, behaviour, vessels, fishing, law, ...) as well as information about the methods of study, as predicted in the León Manifesto. The archive is recorded in a MySQL database, and can be fed and searched through PHP Web interfaces. Indexer's work is made easier by mechanisms that suggest possible classes on the basis of matching title words with terms in the ILC schedules, and synthesize automatically the verbal caption corresponding to the classmark being edited. Users can search the archive by selecting and combining values in each facet. Search refinement should be improved, especially for the cases where no record, or too many records, match the faceted query. However, experience is being gained progressively, showing that freely faceted classification by phenomena, theories, and methods is feasible and working.

Full text
Abstract:
The expansion of streaming platforms has significantly changed film production, both in terms of financing and distribution. This study aims to explore the influence of these platforms on the way films are produced and consumed, focusing on the structural and creative changes they promote. To this end, a bibliographic review of articles published between 2010 and 2023 was conducted, accessed in databases such as PubMed, Scielo and Google Scholar. The materials reviewed include case analyses of films produced directly for streaming, as well as studies on the impact of the business model of these platforms on the traditional film industry. Methodologies employed in the studies range from qualitative content analyses to quantitative assessments of the performance of films on different platforms. Equipment such as data analysis software was used to examine consumption patterns and their correlations with film production strategies. The results indicate that streaming platforms have promoted a democratization of film production, allowing independent filmmakers to reach global audiences without the need for large studios. Furthermore, the use of algorithms to determine viewers’ preferences directly influences the type of content produced, favoring genres and themes that ensure greater subscriber retention. However, this approach also raises concerns about the homogenization of content and the possible reduction of creative diversity. The discussion suggests that, although streaming platforms offer new opportunities for film production, they also pose challenges, especially in relation to preserving originality and diversity in cinema. It is concluded that streaming platforms are redefining film success, while shaping new dynamics in film production and distribution.

Abstract:
This work is a bibliographical research with qualitative analysis, whose objective is to discuss and report the importance of games and play in early childhood education, for the integral development of the child, both in physical aspects and in social and psychosocial aspects. To carry out the same, research was carried out in the Capes, Scielo and Google Scholar databases, and authors such as Piaget (1973), Winnicott (1975) and Vygotsky (1984) were also used, among others. Since many professionals have difficulty understanding the playful universe and the importance of games and play for the integral development of the child, there is a need to train educators, guide parents and society on the importance of working with play in childhood and that play is part of a pleasurable learning process, not just leisure for the child.

Abstract:
Introduction: The identification of where the different types of information are stored was one of the first questions asked about the memory neurobiology. The researchers wanted to know if there would be a large “memory center” or if there were multiple locations in the brain responsible for its storage. Therefore, a bibliographical research was carried out for the scientific knowledge of the theme. Methodology: Is a bibliographic study, carried out through a literary survey in the Google Scholar and SciELO databases, in addition to neuroscience textbooks. Results: The behavior observed in the learning process of the aplysya slug at the cellular and molecular level was developed from an experimental system made by Eric Kandel, austrian physician and neuroscientist. To try to explain these behavioral phenomena, Kandel sought to understand the functioning of the sinatic phenomena, studying the sinaptic transmission between neurons at the time the reflexes occur. Thus, it determined the molecular and cellular mechanisms of synaptic plasticity of aplysia, similar to vertebrate systems. Conclusions: In view of the clarifications of the components involved in the neural circuits, two stages that participate in the learning and memory process are considered: the first would be the acquisition of a short-lived memory, resulting from a transient reinforcement of the synapses, due to the modification of preexisting proteins. And the second consolidation, characterized by a persistent reinforcement of synapses, due to changes in gene expression, followed by protein synthesis, resulting in new synaptic connections.

Abstract:
Population aging has been occurring progressively and in Brazil there is an accelerating growth curve. According to the World Health Organization, dementia is one of the greatest public health challenges of the current generation, in which the Alzheimer's disease subtype accounts for the majority of diagnosed cases. In this context, this study aimed to describe the construction of an educational manual to support family caregivers of elderly people diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. This is a descriptive, methodological study. Initially, a bibliographic survey was carried out on the subject in the following databases: CINAHL, SCOPUS/ Elsevier and Pubmed-Medline; using the descriptors “elderly”, “Alzheimer” and “caregiver”. The educational manual was developed on the Figma platform, structured on the basis of the aspects that emerged from the bibliographic survey, considering aspects of language, illustration and layout/design. A group of researchers specializing in the subject was selected for convenience to support the construction of the educational manual. The contents chosen for the educational manual were: What is Alzheimer's disease (AD)?; What causes Alzheimer's disease (AD); The stages of Alzheimer's disease (AD); The symptoms of Alzheimer's disease (AD); How to deal with behavioral changes in Alzheimer's disease (AD); Tips on hygiene, bathing, eating, the environment, cognitive and memory activities; Bibliographical references. The aim of this study was achieved, since the manual entitled “Caring for elderly people with Alzheimer's disease (AD)” was created by selecting content from the main sources on the subject. The limitations of this study are that the subject is not exhausted by the topics covered; however, too much content could make the educational material long and tiring, which is why it was decided to cover the main topics on the subject.

Abstract:
Playing is universal and its thematization is essential. Lived, explored and felt, they are present mainly in childhood as fun, favoring the exploration of imagination and creativity, social interaction, learning, the expression of feelings and emotions. For children who are born with Down Syndrome and present characteristics such as cognitive impairment, delays in neuropsychomotor development and limitations in communication, playing is a powerful strategy for their development. From this perspective, the present study aims to systematize the knowledge published in Brazilian magazines on the use of games with children with Down Syndrome. This is a bibliographical review of the literature whose data collection was carried out in the following databases: Scielo, Lilacs and Google Scholar. The time frame was the years 2018 to 2023 and the language selected was Portuguese. Eight original articles were selected for qualitative analysis. We conclude that there is concrete and positive evidence about the importance of using games in the cognitive, motor, learning and socialization development of children with Down Syndrome.

Silva, Carolina de Oliveira, and Diva Rosa Carlos. "Chemical dependency: Unstable dynamite and group dynamics as an intervention mechanism." In IV Seven International Congress of Health. Seven Congress, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.56238/homeivsevenhealth-013.

Full text
Abstract:
This work aims to investigate the impacts and reflexes caused by the use of psychoactive substances on the inmates of a Recovery Center. The initial aim is to highlight the effects and scope of drugs in the lives of users, as well as the importance of group dynamics as an intervention tool in the process of permanence, rehabilitation and social reintegration of inmates. To this end, this study was carried out in two phases: expository bibliographical research and field research. The first used articles indexed in the SciELO, PePSIC and GOOGLE PESQUISA databases, as well as Lewin Kurt's theoretical notes and David Cohen's (2014) theoretical postulates on Freud's research into cocaine and the reference work by Eliane Regina Pereira and Bader Burihan Sawaia (2020) on Group Practices: Space for Dialogue and Power. The second instrument for data collection was the systematic and descriptive observation of what was said by inmates at a user coexistence center, exclusively for people with drug addiction and homeless people.

Abstract:
This communication aims to analyse the information that a large set of free-access databases (i.e., Crossref, Dimensions, Microsoft Academic, OpenAlex, Scilit, Semantic Scholar, The Lens) provides about indexed publications in their databases. Using a random sample of 116k publications from Crossref, each database was queried to retrieve the same document list with the purpose of comparing the metadata of their publications. The results show that the completeness degree is different between databases and that the search engines show more problems to extract abstracts and assign document typologies. Dimensions is the product that obtain the highest completeness percentages in abstracts, open access documents, bibliographic data and document types.
