Our call for bibliographical references was hardly responded to by the readers of Swahili Forum VII and other possible contributors except for one scholar who much prefers to be `in consultation with` a certain other scholar. Therefore we once more would like to draw your attention to communicate your articles, books and other resources on Swahili studies to us so that the bibliographical section of the next Swahili Forum will be a treasure house again. Over the past few months, I have been assembling a bibliography on elder abuse that will
soon be published on the Web site of the Ontario Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse
(www.onpea.org). I brought to this inquiry the tools I developed a decade ago during a
sabbatical I spent developing subject-literature expertise in gerontology. That study was focussed
exclusively on the print literature. Today, however, no bibliography would be complete without
addressing the multifaceted nature of communication. Not only is there the traditional “hard
copy” bibliography, there are videos, the Internet, and even the telephone. (Phone Busters,
operated by the Ontario Provincial Police, does research on telemarketing scams and seniors.) I
should emphasize this bibliography is not meant to be comprehensive, but a “brief bibliography”
along the lines of the excellent series published by the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education.<br>Au cours des quelques derniers mois j’ai recueilli une bibliographie sur les mauvais
traitements envers les personnes âgées qui sera publiée sous peu sur les site Web du Réseau
ontarien de prévention des mauvais traitements à l'égard des personnes âgées (www.onpea.org).
Dans cette investigation, j’ai utilisé les instruments que j’avais élaborés voilà dix ans pendant un
congé sabbatique durant lequel j’ai acquis le savoir-faire relatif à la littérature-thématique en
gérontologie. L’étude était exclusivement axée sur la littérature imprimée. Toutefoirs,
aujourd’hui, aucune bibliographie ne serait complète sans aborder la nature diverse de la
communication. À part la bibliographie traditionnelle « sur papier », il y a les vidéos, l’Internet
et même le téléphone. (Phone Busters, géré par la Police provinciale de l’Ontario, fait des
recherches sur le télémarketing frauduleux et les personnes âgées.) Je dois souligner que cette
bibliographie n’est pas exhaustive, ce n’est qu’une «courte bibliographie » dans la tradition de
l’excellente série publiée par la Association for Gerontology in Higher Education.

The editors ofSwahili Forum have decided to revive the former bibliographical service with issueing a first follow-up list within the present No. VII of Swahili Forum. The following titles do certainly not cover all the Swahili-related writings of the years since 1993, but could be seen as a new starter, which might create appetite to continue with a bibliographical section. Eventually this could be completed for the past seven years within the forthcoming issues. The following bibliography contains titles which were rather randomly collected by the present editors. The articles which appeared in Swahili Forum I/1994 - VI/1999 are excluded from this list but await documentation in an extra-list, which is forthcoming in one of the next numbers of Swahlli Forum.

The present alphabetical Bibliography ranging from `Abdalla` to `Zhukov` includes old and new titles on Swahili Literature, Linguistics, Culture and History. Swahili Studies or \'Swahilistics\' have grown strong since the mid-1980s when scholars started to increasingly engage in international networking, first by communicating through the newsletter Swahili Language and Society: Notes and News from Vienna (Nos. 1.1984-9.1992) and Antwerp (No. 10.1993) and then through the journal Swahili Forum published at the University of Cologne (Nos. I. 1994 - IX. 2002), not to mention the numerous conferences held in Dar es Salaam, Nairobi, London, Bayreuth and other places, and not to forget the achievements of the journal Kiswahili from Dar es Salaam as another steady medium of Swahili scholarship. Of course, this Bibliography is not the only one: other useful and specialized bibliographical information appeared in articles, surveys, reference books and larger studies, which are indicated in the following. Part of the titles have been extracted from these sources and integrated into the present Bibliography after having had a physical look at them. As this was not always possible, it seems still to be advisable and necessary to consult the indicated sources themselves when it comes to selecting one\'s base of research literature.

Le système de la propriété littéraire dans la France de l’Ancien Régime est souvent examiné de manière rétrospective à l’aune du droit d’auteur contemporain : tout se passe comme si la librairie d’Ancien Régime devait être nécessairement le laboratoire d’un dispositif juridique et idéologique en pleine formation, encore mal adapté aux réalités littéraires. Cette thèse propose d’examiner la question de cette propriété à nouveaux frais, en considérant le système de librairie comme un ensemble d’acteurs, de logiques et d’outils opératoire, sur le temps long, des années 1650 jusqu’aux années 1780. À travers l’étude des logiques institutionnelles de la propriété économique et de la responsabilité juridique, des dispositifs bibliographiques des dictionnaires, des journaux et des recueils d’ana et des opérations éditoriales imaginées par les auteurs eux-mêmes, elle met en évidence les rapports de force qui agitent la librairie et le monde littéraire de l’époque. En empruntant à l’histoire littéraire, à l’histoire du droit et à l’histoire du livre, ce travail entreprend de montrer de quelle manière la propriété littéraire se construit à l’encontre des intérêts des auteurs et en faveur de la constitution d’un monde de la librairie où l’État joue de moins en moins son rôle de régulateur des pratiques. À travers le prisme de l’attribution littéraire, la démonstration est menée avec un intérêt particulier pour l’analyse précise des paratextes littéraires<br>Literary property rights in early modern France are often understood through the prism of the contemporary droit d’auteur. Many studies see the early modern period as a laboratory for an on-going experiment in law and ideology, still ill-fitted to the literary practices of the authors. This thesis offers a fresh start in the examination of the question of literary property, taking the whole library system from the 1650s to the 1780s to be an effective articulation of agents, tools, and discursives practices. Through the study of institutional policies in the domain of literary property as well as judicial responsibility, through a careful reading of the bibliographical discourse with dictionaries, anas, and periodicals, and through the description of editorial endeavors undertaken by authors themselves, it shows the dynamics of the early modern library and literary world. With roots in literary history, history of law, and book history, this dissertation seeks to understand how the concept of literary property is aggregated, against the very interests of the authors, to consolidate a commercial book-trade where the State slowly delegates its regulatory powers. Through the study of literary attribution, this work follows its demonstrations with an acute interest in a close-reading of literary paratexts

This bibliography is an update of Thomas Geider’s comprehensive bibliography of 100 pages which he published in Swahili Forum 10 (2003). Thomas Geider had almost finished it when he fell ill in April 2010. He left the manuscript when he passed away on 15 October 2010. It has been completed and edited by the editors of Swahili Forum, and comprises mainly works published between 2003 and 2009. Also included are some works published in 2001 and 2002 which came to Thomas Geider’s attention after he had completed his 2003 bibliography.

An der SLUB Dresden werden die Sächsische Bibliographie und die Bibliographie Geschichte der Technik bearbeitet. Beide Werke liegen bis zum Berichtsjahr 1991 nur in gedruckter Form vor. Diese Bände werden als Teil eines Projektes aus dem Europäischen Fonds für regionale Entwicklung (EFRE) retrospektiv konvertiert. Praktisches Ziel dieser Diplomarbeit ist die Erstellung einer katalogbezogenen Aufgabenbeschreibung für das Vorhaben. Die katalogbezogene Aufgabenbeschreibung basiert auf einer Datenanalyse, in deren Rahmen das verzeichnete Titelmaterial in den zu konvertierenden Bibliographiebänden untersucht wird.
In einem theoretischen Teil der Diplomarbeit werden beide Bibliographien vorgestellt. Des weiteren erfolgt eine Marktuntersuchung zu Anbietern von Retrokonversionsdienstleistern in Deutschland.

It also includes a substantial bibliography relating to the Baga peoples of coastal Guinea-Conakry.

Ce travail propose de montrer de quelle manière Clément Marot a conçu son métier d’auteur. À cette fin, il prend d’abord appui sur une reconstruction synthétique et critique de la carrière du poète, des premiers engagements auprès de Nicolas de Neufville ou (peut-être) de la reine Claude, jusqu’au service de François Ier, afin d’en comprendre les contraintes, et la façon dont elles conditionnent l’écriture (I). Suit logiquement l’étude des représentations du métier d’auteur dans l’œuvre, c’est-à-dire du discours par lequel le poète se met en scène en tant qu’auteur ; celle-ci comprend ainsi l’analyse de la signature marotique ainsi que des choix lexicaux et métaphoriques qui caractérisent le regard que le poète pose sur son activité (II). Marot faisant partie des premiers écrivains à s’impliquer fortement dans le processus d’impression, la troisième partie est consacrée à l’enquête bibliographique qui s’intéresse à la totalité des éditions marotiques autorisées : elle en présente les différents acteurs et propose une description matérielle des ouvrages, afin de reconstituer l’histoire de leur fabrication et de déterminer la mesure de la collaboration du poète (III). Les conclusions de l’enquête sont exploitées dans la dernière partie pour mettre en évidence le sens du projet poétique et éditorial des recueils considérés. L’étude de leur ordonnancement en est la clé principale, Marot s’emparant du critère de l’organisation pour se réapproprier une œuvre qui lui échappe en raison même de son succès, et faire finalement de la presse un instrument essentiel pour réaliser ses intentions (IV)<br>This study offers to show how Clément Marot conceived of his role as an author. For this purpose, it begins with a synthetic and critical narrative of the poet’s career, from the first appointments, under the patronage of Nicolas de Neufville or (maybe) Queen Claude de France, to the service of Francis I, so as to bring to light the constraints of the office and the way they influenced his writing process (I). The study then explores the representations of the author’s work in the text, i.e. the way the poet portrays himself as an author; it includes the analysis of Marot’s signature and of the lexical and metaphorical choices which define the way the poet looks at his own activity (II). Because Marot is one of the first writers to get fully involved in the printing process, the third part is devoted to a bibliographical inquiry dealing with all the authorized editions of Marot’s works: it presents the various actors involved and offers a material description of the books, in order to reconstruct the story of their making and to determine the extent of the poet’s collaboration in the process of their production (III). The findings of the inquiry are used in the last part to highlight the import of Marot’s poetical and editorial project. To this end, the study of the books’ dispositio provides the main key, as Marot uses it to reclaim a work that eludes him because of its very success, managing to turn the printing press into an instrument at the service of his auctorial intentions (IV)

Cette thèse est conçue comme un préalable à l’édition critique et à l’interprétation des Dialogues d’Orasius Tubero. Elle consiste en 4 séries de recherches, dont les 3 premières ([I] recherches codicologiques et recherches bibliologiques [II] sur les anciennes éditions des Dialogues et [III] sur les exemplaires des deux premières) visent à reconstituer la genèse de leur texte tandis que la quatrième ([IV] recherches historiques) est consacrée aux modalités concrètes de leur composition, de leur impression, et de leur diffusion immédiate.La première partie présente en premier lieu une étude de l’écriture (graphie) du Philosophe fondée sur le recensement et l’examen de l’ensemble des documents explicitement autographes. L’identification de sa main permet (1) de reconnaître les notes inscrites par Le Vayer dans les volumes de sa bibiothèque mais aussi (2) dans les marges des manuscrits de ses œuvres et surtout (3) de distinguer clairement entre les inscriptions allographes et autographes présentent dans les différents exemplaires des premières éditions des Dialogues. Elle est donc indispensable à l’éditeur de ses œuvres. Ces recherches codicologiques offrent ensuite un essai d’histoire et de classement des trois manuscrits connus des Dialogues – dont deux sont antérieurs à leur première édition. La seconde est dédiée à l’analyse bibliologique et historique des cinq premières éditions du texte : la 1ère partielle de 1631 (A), la 2nde édition complète de 1633 (B), la 1ère réédition partielle de 1671 (C), la 2nde réédition partielle de 1673 (D) et la 1ère réédition complète de 1716 (E). Ces recherches permettent en particulier d’identifier leur lieu et date d’impression respectif, ainsi que l’imprimeur de A et B ; et de préciser les relations génétiques de tous les témoins du texte des Dialogues.La troisième est consacrée au recensement, à l’analyse bibliologique et la collation systématiques des exemplaires connus des premières éditions. Les résultats de ces recherches sont (1) la détermination approximative des tirages de A et B ; (2) la découverte d’annotations autographes dans tous ces exemplaires et la distinction, en ce qui concerne B, de 22 exemplaires ordinaires et de 7 exemplaires spéciaux, ainsi que (3) l’identification d’un exemplaire dans lequel se trouve le plus grand nombre de corrections autographes et qui doit donc servir à ce titre de base à l’édition critique et à l’interprétation des Dialogues.La quatrième a pour objet les conditions historiques de la composition, de l’impression et de la réception immédiate des Dialogues, lesquelles doivent avant tout reposer sur la biographie de leur auteur, c’est-à-dire sur l’interprétation d’un certain nombre de données chronologiques relatives aux principaux événements de sa vie publique et privée. Sur la base de ce cadre biographique on s’est intéressé, pour limiter la subjectivité de l’interprétation du texte, à leur nature (pures fictions, transpositions littéraires ou transcriptions de dialogues réels), à leur objet (philosophie sceptique de l’auteur ou conversations réelles d’un groupe d’amis érudits du philosophe) à leur fin (démonstrative ou mémoriale) ainsi qu’à leur statut. De cette dernière série de recherches il appert que les Dialogues d’Orasius Tubero, loin d’être une publication clandestine subversive, est une impression privée à usage privé qui était destinée aux amis de l’auteur et devait les aider à conserver la mémoire de conversations philosophiques passées<br>This thesis is conceived as a preliminary study for the critical edition and interpretation of Dialogues faits à l’imitation des anciens by Orasius Tubero. It consists of four research projects, of which the first three ([I] codicological and bibliological research [II] on early editions of the Dialogues and [III] on copies of the first two editions) aim at reconstructing the genesis of their text, while the fourth ([IV] historical research) is devoted to the practical modalities of their composition, printing, and immediate reception.The first part presents a study of the Philosopher’s handwriting based on an inventory and examination of all the explicitly autograph documents. The identification of his handwriting allows (1) to identify the notes written by Le Vayer in books form his personal library, but also (2) in the margins of the manuscripts of his works and especially (3) to clearly distinguish the allograph and autograph inscriptions featured in the different copies of the first editions of the Dialogues. This identification is therefore essential to any publisher of his works. This codicological research then attempts to tell the history and provide a classification of the three known manuscripts of the Dialogues, two of which predate the first edition.The second part is devoted to the bibliological and historical analysis of the five early editions (1630-1716): the first partial edition of 1631 (A); the complete second edition of 1633 (B); the first partial reissue of 1671 (C); the second partial reissue of 1673 (D); and the first complete reissue of 1716 (E). This research makes it possible in particular to identify their respective place and date of printing, as well as the printer-publisher of A and B; and to clarify the genetic connections between all the witnesses of the text of the Dialogues.The third part is devoted to an inventory, systematic bibliological analysis and collation of known copies of the first editions. The findings of this research are (1) an estimate of the print runs of A and B; (2) the discovery of autograph annotations in all these copies and the distinction between 22 ordinary copies and 7 special copies of B, as well as (3) the identification of a copy in which was found the largest number of autograph corrections, which should therefore serve as a basis for the scholarly edition and interpretation of the Dialogues.The fourth concerns the historical conditions of the composition, printing and immediate reception of the Dialogues, based first of all on their author’s biography, in other words, on the interpretation of a certain number of chronological facts pertaining to the main events of their author’s public and private life. On the basis of this biographical framework, I have sought to limit the subjectivity of interpreting the texts by focusing on their nature (pure fiction, literary transpositions or transcripts of real dialogues), their subject (the author’s philosophical skepticism or real conversations of a group of the Skeptic’s erudite friends) and their purpose (demonstrative or memorial), as well as their status. From this last series of research projects, it appears that the Dialogues of Orasius Tubero, far from being a secret subversive publication, is a private printing meant for private use by the author’s friends, intended to allow them to preserve the memory of past philosophical conversations

Eine kleine Gemeinschaft von 200,000-300,000 blieben im Lande, die überwiegend aus Menschen bestand, die über benötigte industriellen Fachkenntnissen verfügten, in Mischehen lebten und/oder antifaschistische Aktivitäten nachweisen konnten. Aus verschiedenen Gründen, oft verbunden mit den politischen Realitäten des kalten Kriegs und der vorherrschenden antideutschen Diskriminierung in der Tschechoslowakei, verschwanden diese Menschen aus dem Blickfeld der Geschichte.
In dieser Dissertation gehe ich zwei Fragen nach, die mit den kulturellen Bestrebungen dieser kleinen Gemeinschaft verbunden sind. Zuerst erforsche ich, ob es möglich ist, durch die Auffindung ihrer literarischen Bestrebungen, das Bemühen dieser Gemeinschaft ihre kulturelle Identität zu bewahren zu dokumentieren. Trotz der Einschränkung von Veröffentlichungsmöglichkeiten, wurde es klar, dass die Gemeinschaft literarisch tätig war. Ihre Texte habe ich in eine Bibliographie eingetragen, die Anhaltspunkte für weiterführende Forschung zu dieser Gemeinschaft bietet. Die zweite Frage nimmt die Erstellung einer Analyse des generellen kulturpolitischen Umfelds der Gemeinschaft auf sich. Durch die sorgfältige Lektüre der Gemeinschaftszeitung auf der Suche nach literarischen Beiträgen, war es möglich den Verlauf dieser Entwicklungen zu verfolgen, insbesondere die Auswirkung der Veränderungen, die von dem Slánský-Prozess, dem Prager Frühling und der Normalisierung ausgelöst wurden.
Im letzten Kapitel dieser Dissertation biete ich eine Reflexion zur Frage inwiefern Bibliothekspraxis und –politik ermöglichen sowie verhindern die Erforschung von Randgemeinschaften und -themen. Ich behandle die Diskrepanz zwischen den Neutralitätsbehauptungen von Bibliotheken und der Auswirkung von menschlichen Entscheidungen und Neigungen auf Bestände und biete abschließend Vorschläge für Veränderungen.<br>At the conclusion of the Second World War, a reconstituted Czechoslovakia expelled the majority of its German population. A small community of 200,000-300,000 remained behind, consisting mainly of individuals with specialized trades or skills, in mixed marriages, and/or with antifascist credentials. For various reasons, many related to Cold War political realities and endemic anti-German discrimination in Czechoslovakia, these individuals largely disappeared from view.
In this dissertation I address two questions related to the cultural aspirations of this small community. First, I explore whether it is possible to document the community’s attempts to maintain a German cultural identity by tracking their literary efforts. Despite restrictions on publication, it emerged that the community did actively produce literature. I recorded these texts in a bibliography that offers an entry point for further research on the German minority. The other question delves into constructing an analysis of the broader cultural politics of this community. By virtue of close engagement with the community’s newspaper while searching for literature, it was possible to trace the arc of these developments, in particular the impact of changes set in motion by the Slánský trial, the Prague Spring, and the period known as Normalization.
The dissertation concludes with a chapter where I pursue the question of the extent to which the practices and policies of research libraries enable and thwart research on marginal communities. I reflect on the gap between libraries’ claim to be neutral organizations and the impact of human decisions and biases on collections and offer some concluding suggestions for changes that would help libraries address critical gaps in the human record.

The thesis has grown out of an extensive survey of the literature pertaining to the county of Rutland. The survey was an original idea to produce a county bibliography which had both a short-title catalogue of conventional references and full physical descriptions of the books of the county. Two types of bibliography, analytical and systematic, are combined in one survey. The thesis is an account of this project together with a rigorous review of the theoretical background against which it was conducted. The practice of bibliography, and specifically of bibliographies of counties, is reviewed. A new definition of county bibliography is offered, together with its appropriate objects of study (book, pamphlet, leaflet, ephemera and publication are some of the specific concepts defined here). The research methods employed for the Rutland project are described and a plan outlined showing how a comprehensive survey of any English county's literature could be achieved. Especially important here are the lessons learned from on-line searching. There is a detailed discussion of inclusion and exclusion policies appropriate for a county bibliography, and an account of how this material should be presented and described. A new classification system for a county bibliography is outlined, and older solutions to the classification problem reviewed. The lessons of the Rutland project are discussed, including presentation of a statistical breakdown of the Rutland material, and whether the way in which the Rutland project was conducted could be copied for other counties. The Rutland statistics are contrasted with those for other counties. Several appendices present bibliographical information, lists of categories of literature encountered and samples from the Rutland survey.

In der vorliegenden Studie, die von der Philologisch-Historischen Fakultät an der Universität Augsburg 2005 als Dissertation angenommen wurde, wird „erstmals ein repräsentatives Korpus von über 200 Hochzeitspredigtdrucken“ (Klappentext) im „Zeitalter der Konfessionalisierung“ erschlossen, deren ,sintflutartiges‘ Auftreten (S.1) bis ins frühe 17. Jahrhundert auf die „Neubewertung der Ehe […] für den europäisch-abendländischen Kulturkreis“ (ebd.) und damit zugleich dieses Übergangsrituals in seiner Verkirchlichung in den Konfessionskirchen des 16. Jahrhunderts (S.104–107) hinweist. Markgraf sichtete die zwischen 1520 und 1700 (S. 36) erschienenen Drucke aus der Herzog-August-Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel, der Staats- und Stadtbibliothek und der Universitätsbibliothek Augsburg und weist diese in einer umfangreichen Bibliographie (S.547–625) ausdrücklich für die „geschichtswissenschaftliche Forschung“ (S. 44) nach. Mit 177 Texten aus Wolfenbüttel und 50 Texten aus Augsburg bilden „mehr als die Hälfte der ermittelten Gesamtüberlieferung“ (S. 38) das Untersuchungskorpus, das letztlich – Überschneidungen herausgerechnet – aus 209 Einzeltexten und drei Sammeldrucken (mit je sieben bzw. zweimal 15 Drucken) besteht. Bibliographic data provide well established means of the information resource description. Nowadays, there is obvious need to make this data more web-friendly and web-compatible, while web is mostly seen as the only place where people are seeking information. The proposed solution is to change the traditional bibliographic data representation format. Semantic Web initiative presents enhancement of the current web with machine processable data semantics (meaning). The main goal is to manage more effective information processing by web applications that brings up many benefits for web users. Linked data are seen as practical means to reach the semantic web vision. This initiative promotes best practices of publishing, connecting and sharing structural data on the web. This thesis reports the transformation of bibliographic records' format in case of Database of publishing activities at University of Economics, Prague (PCVSE). Benefits of linked data publishing model are demonstrated on the realized projects. The main part describes practical experiences gained during the implementation of RDF framework in phases of data modelling, interlinking and exposing the dataset. The linked data publishing model is seen there as an optimal web-compatible bibliographic data representation format.

Horst Fiedler und Ulrike Leitner haben sich diesem bibliographischen Abenteuer gestellt. Als Ergebnis ihrer sich über zwei Jahrzehnte erstreckenden Bemühungen konnte im Jahre 2000 die Bibliographie der selbständig erschienenen Schriften Humboldts vorgelegt werden.<br>The two attempts (1860 and 1872) to compile a bibliography of all works of Alexander von Humboldt have to be regarded as failures. Due to Humboldt’s scientific methods, the contemporary popularity of his writings, and the conditions of book publishing and selling, it has been difficult to achieve an overview of his œuvre. Thus each attempt to write a reliable or at least partially complete bibliography of Humboldt’s works constituted an adventure. Horst Fiedler and Ulrike Leitner have mastered this undertaking. As a result of their efforts over more than two decades, a bibliography of those works by Humboldt which were published in book form appeared in the year 2000.

The Solution: A web site that groups together scholarly publications using similar approaches and treating similar subjects will translate the overwhelming into the maneuverable. The online medium will provide accessibility to everyone--student, research assistant, instructor, scholar--and will guarantee the opportunity to update this resource on a regular basis.
Scope: Listings will span materials published between 1991and 2001. The bibliography will exclude notes, reviews, abstracts, and treatments of theatre and film performances as well as certain forums (e.g., newsletters, bulletins, electronic journals). Scholarship focusing on the Folio/Quartos debate seems relevant but requires specific and technical specialization and will thus be omitted. Pedagogical studies and comparisons of Hamlet to other literary works will also be excluded.
Research: IAC Expanded Academic Index, 1982-1995, IAC Expanded Academic Index, 1996-, and MLA Bibliography databases, as well as Dr. Sara Deats?private bibliography on Hamlet, will be combed for applicable scholarship.
