Abstract:
This essay posits a framework of shared identity and practice for feminist bibliographers, book historians, and textual scholars. Feminist bibliographyis positioned as the use of bibliographic methodologies to revise how book history and related fields categorize and analyze women’s texts and labor. The opening section of the essay quantitatively analyzes book history companions, readers, and introductions to establish a baseline for how the field functions as a practice and discourse. The second section then analyzes the version of bibliography that has been canonized in book history, identifies how book history has explicitly favored a version of bibliography that is antagonistic to feminist work, and proposes a feminist narrative of bibliography that can and should be incorporated as the foundation for studies of the material book. The last section puts a feminist framework into practice and searches for women’s contributions to bibliographic labor in the Anglo-American world. It offers a new set of founders in bibliography and challenges contemporary bibliographers and book historians to re-evaluate on whom we place importance, how we define interpretive scholarship, and how we construct our discourse.

Abstract:
The scientific legacy of Emilia Konstantinovna Bespalova, well-known Russian bibliographer, theorist and historian of bibliography, includes more than 200 works. She laid her own line in theoretical and methodological understanding of bibliography science and activity. “Formation of Bibliographic Thought in Russia (Up to the 60s of the 19th century)” is the last fundamental work of E.K. Bespalova; it describes the philosophical and methodological explication of bibliography as a naturally occurring phenomenon of information nature. There was formed unique method of analysis that considered historical and bibliographic facts in the context of professionalization of bibliographic activity. The analysis of bibliographic phenomena applied by E.K. Bespalova can be generally described as combination of modern theoretical knowledge on bibliography, methodology of system-activity approach and philosophy of historical process. The historical-theoretical method of studying bibliographic activity at different stages of its development allows a modern researcher to see the institutional significance of bibliographic processes as one of the full-fledged components of the global information picture.Analyzing the initial, original object of bibliographic activity — a book, the scientist proves that it was the process of replication and therefore the need to create the secondary structure of a book in a form of title page, which made a book to be the “book”. Through the concept of “book” E.K. Bespalova also traces interaction and sequential connection of three systems — “knowledge”, “book” (“document”) and “bibliographic document”. From the point of view of cognitive potential of the history of bibliography, bibliographical guide is of historical and theoretical interest being the result of activity and the object of desobjectivation in it of the conceptual theoretical-methodological and historical representations of authors, composers and doers of the history of bibliography. As the main differentiation of bibliographic products, Bespalova puts forward the division into timer bibliographic subsystems (reflection of current, retrospective, prospective primary flow) and chorographic subsystems that restrict documentary flows by the territorial and linguistic principle. The historical method by E.K. Bespalova reveals a wide range of theoretical foundations that enrich modern bibliography science.

Abstract:
The Russian State Library has made significant contribution to the development of Russian bibliographic thought, starting from the period of the Great Patriotic War (holding scientific conferences, defending PhD theses on bibliography topics by library employees). The major achievement is the development of problems of recommendatory bibliography: the works by B.A. Smirnova of the 1940s through 1960s, major collective studies conducted in 1967—1989 under supervision of the V.I. Lenin State Library of the USSR on the problems of “Effectiveness of recommendatory bibliography in reading guidance” and “Recommendatory bibliography as means of promoting books and reading guidance”. In 1976—1989, the sector of bibliography theory played the significant role in the development of Russian bibliography (since 1983 — the sector of general problems of theory, methodology and organization of bibliography). The release of the serial collection of scientific works “Voprosy bibliografovedeniya” [Questions of bibliography science] (1976—1990) was of great theoretical and organizing value. In the 1990s, when there were no divisions on bibliography science, a number of monographs and dissertations on bibliographic topics were created by individual Library employees. In the Scientific research department of bibliography, established in 1999, there was organized the bibliography science sector (existed until 2015), where famous bibliographic scholars V.A. Fokeev and B.A. Semenovker worked. Within the framework of the sector, G.L. Levin researched on the problems of the national bibliography of Russia. Studies in bibliography science were also created by the other employees of the Department (S.P. Bavin, A.V. Teplitskaya). In 2001, there were resumed publication of the collection “Voprosy bibliografovedeniya” and the activity of the Dissertation Council, where seven dissertations on bibliographic topics were defended by the RSL employees. At present, both researchers and bibliographers of the Scientific Research Department of Bibliography carry out scientific research in parallel with the compilation activities. The authors of bibliographic publications are also employees of other scientific and library divisions of the Russian State Library. Of great importance is the activity of the Scientific Research Department of Bibliography on the information support of bibliographic science, such as creation of indexes of bibliographic literature and bibliographic production of libraries.

Abstract:
The provision of bibliographic resources for individual branches of science and / or practical activity is traditional and now it is one of the most developed areas of bibliography. The library and information sphere, including library, bibliographic and scientific information activities and the scientific disciplines that study them needs (library and information sciences) it as well. These areas are characterized by the proximity and significant concurrency of goals, objects, processes, methods, and results of activities. At present, their further integration, transformation of traditional libraries (first of all, scientific ones) into library and information centers is underway. The bibliography of library and information science and practice includes: 1) bibliography of literature on history, theory, methodology, organization, methodology and technology of these activities, 2) bibliography of publications and electronic resources of library and information institutions; for bibliography as such bibliography of bibliography is also of particular importance, 3) bio-bibliography of branch leaders (polybiobibliographic and monobibiographic (personal) resources).Since the 1940s the Russian State Library is the main center of the current bibliographic registration of literature on librarianship and bibliography (until 2015 – the release of current indexes, since 1989 – the formation of a thematic abstract bibliographic database). The library prepared many printed retrospective indexes and lists on the problems of library and bibliographic science and practice, which creation not only its bibliographic, but also research, methodical and production structural units took active part in.In the XXI century, the Library activities in the field of retrospective branch bibliography are limited to the creation of a series of indexes “Bibliography. Bibliographic science”, reflecting the scientifically significant array of native bibliographic literature in Russian since 1959. The main attention is paid to bibliographic registration of publications and electronic resources of the Library and about it, as well as works of its staff.Electronic catalogs and bibliographic indexes are being created that take into account the products of libraries of the Russian Federation, as well as countries – the former Soviet republics. Polybiobibliographic and personal indexes are being prepared.

Abstract:
This article discusses the strengths and weaknesses of the bibliographic coverage of the Indian National Bibliography, with its multiplicity of languages and scripts, and compares INB with a number of prominent bibliographies around the world. The Indian National Bibliography is affected with the disease of sluggishness in publication and incomplete coverage. The author describes the application of ICT and the level of success that INB has achieved with regard to its timeliness and comprehensiveness. The publication's workflow uses a customized version of the library system Libsys, version IV, with transliteration using diacritical marks and GIST (Graphics and Intelligence based Script Technology) to overcome language problems. The Central Reference Library, Kolkata, which compiles the bibliography, is currently working towards implementation of UNICODE and discarding GIST to facilitate international cooperation and data exchange. The author examines a number of aspects of the bibliography's production, with special emphasis on remedial measures to be followed to improve currency and coverage.

Abstract:
This article investigate the creation, in 1911, of the Serviço de Bibliographia e Documentação in the National Library from Brazil and what would have been the influence of the International Institute of Bibliography (IIB), founded in 1895 by Paul Otlet and Henri La Fontaine. Seeks to demonstrate that the creation of the Bibliography and Documentation Service can be considered part of the international cooperation project by Otlet and La Fontaine. It intends to contextualize the period of transformations by which the Brazilian National Library went through, especially during the construction of a new building and its further occupancy as well as the administrative changes implemented by its director at the time, Manoel Cícero Peregrino da Silva. The methodology consisted of bibliographic and documentation based reesearch in the archives of the Brazilian National Library and the Mundaneum Archives Centre in Belgium as well as the Brazilian Historic and Geographic Institute and the Foreign Ministry. The article argues that the establishment of the Serviço de Bibliographia e Documentação and Boletim Bibliographico da Bibliotheca Nacional were results of the contact maintained between the two institutions. It concludes that the International Institute of Bibliography and the Brazilian National Library sustained a close relationship for some years which apparently contributed to introduce the Documentation as a discipline in Brazil. Keywords: Bibliography and Documentation Service. Once more we can offer our readers some further titles of the Swahili- related research literature, some brand new in publication, others already out since years, yet still not yet put on record for the wider world of Swahilists. Our call for bibliographical references was hardly responded to by the readers of Swahili Forum VII and other possible contributors except for one scholar who much prefers to be `in consultation with` a certain other scholar. Therefore we once more would like to draw your attention to communicate your articles, books and other resources on Swahili studies to us so that the bibliographical section of the next Swahili Forum will be a treasure house again. The Open Access Bibliography for liberating scholarly literature with E-Prints and Access Journals presents over 1,300 selected English-language books, conference papers (including some digital video presentations), debates, editorials, e-prints, journal and magazine articles, news articles, technical reports, and other printed and electronic sources. These are useful in understanding the open access movement's efforts to provide free access to and unfettered use of scholarly literature. Although most sources have been published between 1999 and August 31, 2004, a limited number of key sources published prior to 1999 are also included. The editors ofSwahili Forum have decided to revive the former bibliographical service with issueing a first follow-up list within the present No. VII of Swahili Forum. The following titles do certainly not cover all the Swahili-related writings of the years since 1993, but could be seen as a new starter, which might create appetite to continue with a bibliographical section. Eventually this could be completed for the past seven years within the forthcoming issues. The following bibliography contains titles which were rather randomly collected by the present editors. The articles which appeared in Swahili Forum I/1994 - VI/1999 are excluded from this list but await documentation in an extra-list, which is forthcoming in one of the next numbers of Swahlli Forum.
