Abstract:
This book consists of six chapters, endnotes, a glossary, a bibliography, and an index. Although fairly short vis-a-vis the long period that itcovers (from the Ottoman era to 1988), this book is in fact a very valuablereference work on the subject. The author made considerable efforts tocollect, compare, and analyze the data. However, it seems that the maintitle, Islam and Israel, is rather ambiguous and misleading. The subtitle,Muslim Religious Endowments and the Jewish State, reveals the book'scontents adequately. This title may have been coined by the publisher formarketing purposes. The book explores Israeli policy toward Palestinian Muslim religiousendowments (awqtif, sing. waqf) and studies the methods employed toconfiscate and transfer most of them so that they eventually becameexclusively Jewish property. The waqf system played a very significantsocioeconomic, religious, and educational role in the history of Muslimsociety. About 15 percent of the agricultural land in Palestine is waqf (1.2million dunums), as are many buildings, shops, and other structures inurban areas. The revenue derived from these sources finances importantnetworks of welfare and charitable services in Palestine, such as schools, orphanages, and soup kitchens. The first chapter tackles the Palestinian Muslim waqf system duringthe late Ottoman empire and the British Mandate. It indicates the importanceof waqf for the notable families in Palestine and their administrationof it in ways designed to enhance their power and influence. It also studiesthe arrangements made by the Ottomans during the nineteenth centuryto set up a waqf administrative structure and to develop it under their closesupervision. During the British Mandate (1918-48), however, a new structure, known as The Supreme Muslim Council, was created in 1922. It wasdominated by the Palestinian religious elite and notables and took a"national character" under the leadership of Hajj Am1n al ijusayn1. In1937, the British mandatory government suspended the council's centralcommittee and replaced it with a government-appointed commission. These measures undermined the waqf institution and its role in politics andthe national struggle. The second chapter discusses the Muslim waqf system in Israel from1948 to 1965 and explains how the Zionist state managed to control andconfiscate waqf properties and resources. In the parts of Palestine that ...

Abstract:
The objective of the study is to perform a critical review, exploration, and strong summary of the relationships between personal and ambient concentrations of mainly particulate matter with diameter of 2.5µm or less with the measures of cardiopulmonary health. A comprehensive search was carried out in mainstream bibliographic databases or Medical Subject Headings, including Scien Direct, PubMed, Scopus, and ISI Web of Science. The search was applied to the articles that were published between 2017 and early 2019. Needed article information was extracted from each article by: direct information including journal (research article, review article, meeting abstract, conference abstract, correspondence, author index, editorial board meeting abstract, discussion), book chapter, title, authors, abstract, full text documents of candidate studies, publishing year. Study period, Research (study) method used, types of air pollutants variables studied; Types of organ system disorder or disease studied The conclusions made about the health hazards, impacts on humans or animal models, novel therapeutics, and economic loss. With strict literature search and screening processes, it yielded 140 articles (2017=45; 2018=61; and early 2019=34 articles) from 3,968 articles of initial literature database (1952-early 2019). The main compositions of air pollutants are PM, particularly PM2.5 and PM10, O3, CO, SO2, and NOx. Exposure to O3 is frequently associated with respiratory tract inflammation, whereas exposure to PM, CO, No2, and SO2 is related to pulmonary edema, respiratory and cardiovascular hospitalizations, and cardiopulmonary mortality. Any compromise to endothelial cells, the key components of lung barrier integrity contributes to vascular leakage and inflammation. Endothelial cells could be the target of PM exposure. The various effects on various disease entities contribute to hypothesize that Melatonin might protect the lung integrity against PM2.5-induced acute lung injury. Bufei Huoxue (BFHX) could reduce secretory immunoglobulin A (sIgA) and collagen fibers deposition in lung, thus, improved pulmonary function. In conclusion, identification of various crucial signaling pathway involving PM-induced cardiopulmonary disorders and diseases may assist in the development of effective therapeutics, including clean energy use, clean industrialization, proper agriculture, high land use diversity, and proper urbanization for reduction of the air pollution.

Abstract:
The literature on Quaternary glacigene deposits in Denmark is extensive, and it may easily involve a great deal of work to unearth the relevant material on a smaller region of Denmark or on a specific subject. It is therefore my hope that this bibliography will prove helpful to students in finding this type of literature and that it may serve as a guide to students interested in the history/ development of geology, helping them to understand the background for our present interpretation of the genesis and extension of the Quaternary glacial deposits in this country. The bibliography was originally planned as part of a Nordic project. Thus the subject index was prepared in cooperation with colleagues from the other Nordic countries. Unfortunately, so many practical difficulties arose that the joint publication was abandoned. I wish to take this opportunity of thanking my colleagues for an inspiring collaboration, which due to external reasons did not lead to the result hoped for. Thanks to Jon Eirfksson (Iceland), Sylvi Haldorsen (Norway), Hans G. Johansson (Sweden) and Marjatta Pcrttunen (Finland). To professor A. Dreimanis (Canada) I express my gratitude for many stimulating discussions concerning the subject index.

Abstract:
The article describes the history of creation of Biobibliographic Index “Alexander Isayevich Solzhenitsyn. Materials for Biobibliography” dedicated to A.I. Solzhenitsyn – the outstanding Russian writer, Nobel Laureate and public figure – from the bibliographic chapter planned in the 1960-ies to the Index in two volumes, being prepared for publication in 2018.The Index contains the list of all works by A.I. Solzhenitsyn from 1962 to 2017: released both as separate editions and published in the periodical press, as well as the literature about his life and creative activity. The first section includes the book editions and works by the writer published in journals, newspapers and non-author’s collections. They are grouped by genre principle — prose, drama, poetry. The bibliographic records are arranged in chronological order (by date of publication). The second section “Literature on A.I. Solzhenitsyn’s Life and Works” includes a variety of publications, devoted to the writer entirely or partially. The key to the disclosure of the substantive content of each entry is a classified index, where the heading titles reflect the landmarks of A.I. Solzhenitsyn’s life and creative heritage, identified in the process of the compilers’ acquaintance with the critical literature de visu. This index helps the user to navigate in the extensive corpus of literature devoted to the writer and in selection of materials on the subject of interest. The author considers the problems encountered by the compilers, as well as the ways of their solution and defines this publication as the first experience in Russia in preparing a large-scale bibliographic collection dedicated to A.I. Solzhenitsyn.

Abstract:
The article presents a bibliographic index compiled in the Wro- blewski Library of the Academy of Science and discusses the significance of a personal bibliography for biographical studies. This is the first and so far the only comprehensive index encompassing both Basanavičius’s own publications and writings about him. The first part of the index, dealing with writings by Basanavičius, was published in 2015. The second part, concerning literature on him, is currently under preparation. Both biographical studies and research in other scientific fields will benefit from the following aspects of the bibliography: it offers clarification on Ba- sanavičius’s pseudonyms and contains entries for his anonymously published works, documents signed by him, and repeated editions of his writings. It also provides citation data, i.e., information on who cited Basanavičius’s works or commented on them. The bibliography will be useful in studying Basanavičius’s biography, the subject variety in his writings, their dissemination and popularity, as well as the historical circumstances in that time period. The bibliography also will be of use in writing a scientific biography of Basanavičius or a monograph about him, as well as in preparing a comprehensive edition of his writings.Based on the example of the bibliography of Basanavičius, it may be stated that a personal bibliography is an important source for biographical studies, which may be instrumental in creating a comprehensive biographical portrait of an individual.

Abstract:
Main sources for this bibliography were the 2001 editions of various databases such as the Australian Public Affairs Information Service (APAIS), Chemical Abstracts and Medline Express. In addition, issues of a number of Australian journals published in 2001 were scanned, and readers of the bibliography sent information about relevant items to the compiler. Most items included were published in 2001, but a number of earlier publications were also found which it was thought should be included. The scope of the bibliography is limited to material on the history of the natural sciences (mathematics, physical sciences, earth sciences and biological sciences), some of the applied sciences (including medical and health sciences, agriculture, manufacturing and engineering), and human sciences (psychology, anthropology and sociology). Biographical material on practitioners in these sciences is also of interest. The compiler would like to thank those people who sent items or information about items published during 2001 for inclusion in the bibliography. It would again be appreciated if he could be notified about other items dealing with the history of science in Australasia, the South West Pacific area and Antarctica published during 2001, but have been omitted. Readers are invited to alert the compiler to the publication of books, journal articles, conference papers, reports, Masters and PhD theses and reviews on the subject published during 2002 for inclusion in future bibliographies. Pertinent information should be sent to the compiler, C/- Deakin University Library, Geelong, Victoria 3217, Australia or by e-mail to laurie.carlson@austehc.unimelb.edu.au.

Abstract:
Soil use and management systems aim to create conditions that are favorable to crop growth. The hypothesis is that areas subject to intensive use of agricultural machinery and animal trampling tend to have a soil structure that is altered by aggregate fragmentation, which causes soil compaction and consequently decreases the soil’s physical and hydraulic properties. The aim of this study was to assess and compare the physical and hydraulic parameters of a dystrophic yellow latosol in an area of Cerrado in the municipality of Chapadinha, Maranhão, Brazil under different use and management systems. The following five use and management systems were studied with five replicates: native forest (control), slash-and-burn agriculture, grassland, no-till crop production and conventional tillage. Data analysis was performed using a completely randomized experimental design. The soil’s density, macroporosity, microporosity, total porosity, hydraulic conductivity, infiltration, water retention curve, penetration resistance and Soil quality assessment index (S index) were assessed for all management systems. The soil use and management systems were found to have a significant effect on the penetration resistance and the water infiltration rate. The native forest and slash-and-burn agriculture areas provided the highest soil water infiltration rates and the lowest soil penetration resistance. A multivariate analysis identified the variables associated with each soil use and management system. The slash-and-burn agriculture area had the highest S index, which means it provided soil of the best physical quality.

Index Islamicus, begun in 1906, is a database of bibliographic information ofpublications in all areas of studies connected with the Islamic world. Since thattime, interest in Islamic art and architecture has surged from specialists to manyscholars, students, and general interest worldwide. The recent and updated supplementsBibliography of Art and Architecture in the Islamic World, edited bySusan Sinclair, who was assisted by Heather Bleaney and Pablo Garcia Suarez, fills a serious void by listing the materials from 1906 to 2011.Sinclair, an independent scholar with a Ph.D. from the University ofLondon’s Courtauld Institute of Art, is currently researching material in themedievalArab world and has served as the co-editor of the Index Islamicussince 2007. The compilation of resources from these vast collections aswell as the material available online has brought this bibliographic collectionto a new level. At first glance, the material may seem to be no more than a listing ofsources on the subject, with no “content” per se to read. Abstract:
The Haynesville Shale lies under areas of Louisiana and Texas and is one of the largest gas plays in the U.S. Encompassing approximately 2.9 million ha, this area has been subject to intensive exploration for oil and gas, while over 90% of it has traditionally been used for forestry and agriculture. In order to detect the landscape change in the past few decades, Landsat Thematic Mapper (TM) imagery for six years (1984, 1989, 1994, 2000, 2006, and 2011) was acquired. Unsupervised classifications were performed to classify each image into four cover types: agriculture, forest, well pad, and other. Change detection was then conducted between two classified maps of different years for a time series analysis. Finally, landscape metrics were calculated to assess landscape fragmentation. The overall classification accuracy ranged from 84.7% to 88.3%. The total amount of land cover change from 1984 to 2011 was 24%, with 0.9% of agricultural land and 0.4% of forest land changed to well pads. The results of Patch-Per-Unit area (PPU) index indicated that the well pad class was highly fragmented, while agriculture (4.4-8.6 per sq km) consistently showed a higher magnitude of fragmentation than forest (0.8-1.4 per sq km).

Abstract:
The interdisciplinary character of the science of language causes great difficulties in bibliographic support in this field. The object of bibliographing in linguistics is not only literature on the language, but also a variety of linguistic resources, which represent a special object to study a branch of linguistics - lexicography. Bibliography of linguistics is the least studied field by specialists among humanitarian bibliographic complexes. The paper first studied the array of domestic bibliographic sources for more than 150 years; the most significant of them are shown. The subject of research is national bibliographic resources in the linguistics field. The objective is to characterize the historical development of the linguistic bibliography in Russia. To achieve this goal we had to solve a number of tasks: identify existing sources for ongoing historical research; to trace the history of forming bibliographic sources, bibliography of bibliographies of linguistics; to form and analyze the body of bibliographic materials; to characterize the problematic areas in the bibliographic software of linguistics. Using the bibliometric analysis it was studied an array of bibliographic products published between 1860 and 2013, the dynamics of bibliographic resources formation was determined, the degree of bibliographic support of some topics and issues in linguistic science and prior directions of their development were revealed. The main results of the study should be considered: 1. The nuclear of fundamental indices on general and applied linguistics is singled out in analyzed literature sources covering the period 1918-1977, as well as in Slavic linguistics for 1825-1981. The complex of current and retrospective bibliographic products was formed and replenished in the country in 1963-1988. 2. The largest share of bibliographic sources in linguistics is presented by book and article bibliography (over 70%), many of which remain bibliographically unrecorded and unused. 3. The following subject areas of linguistics are considered to be bibliographically supported: inter-linguistics, culture of speech and language norms, lexicography, linguistic geography, linguistics regional geography, onomastics. 4. An obvious need to continue the index or database of bibliographic aids in the field of linguistics over the past 50 years is marked. 5. Further development of the linguistics bibliography is impossible to imagine without creating an electronic guide on the bibliographic resources of linguistics, which would reflect the diversity of bibliographical resources and provide their rich information potential for professionals and remote users

Abstract:
In her preface, Mounira Charrad traces the genesis of her study to her concerns as a sociologist regarding the inadequate analytical models used to account for the origin of political organization in the "predominantly classbased and capitalist societies" Maghribi societies. Charrad proposes "kinship" and tribal ties as more appropriate sociological categories for acquiring a good understanding of the foundations of social relations in Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco. She focuses on three distinct historical periods: precolonial, colonial, and post-independence. Her investigation centers on documenting the historical relationship between the process of nationbuilding and state-formation, and the codification and articulation of a unified family law that replaced numerous (and sometimes conflicting) forms of customary law competing with Islamic law. The book combines historical, sociological, and geographical data and analytical concepts in order to frame the investigation's main subject. The subject is covered in three main parts divided into nine chapters, in addition to an introduction and a conclusion. The text is supplemented with tables and maps documenting linguistic and geographic features of the Maghrebi states under study. The book concludes with a useful glossary of transliterated Arabic words, chapter notes, a selected bibliography organized conveniently under five main headings, an author index, and a subject index ...

Abstract:
Subject. The study examines the structure of Russia's macroeconomics and analyzed its metrics. Objectives. The study determines metrics of the current structure of Russia's macroeconomics and marks achievable ones. Methods. The study is based on the systems approach and statistical, cluster, neural network and non-parametric analysis. Results. We assessed whether it is necessary to determine priorities of Russia's macroeconomic structure as it is today when the global economy departs from the total globalization policy to U.S.-style segmented corporate governance. We found what factors inhibit a growth in unemployment, industrial production, services and agriculture. We figured out what is required for more intensified trade, trend in foreign direct investment, and distinctions of the Russian financial system. The article highlights a course towards the liberalization of the Russian marker, while the Corruption Perceptions Index continues to grow steadily. Conclusions and Relevance. The priorities shape ambiguous pictures of the Russian economy in terms of curbing a growth in unemployment, low efficiency of industrial production, servicing sector, agriculture, and sustainable dependence of a growth in labor productivity and the GDP deflator, opportunistic growth in total reserves, liberalization of the Russian market and Corruption Perceptions Index. The findings could be used to formulate and adjust the Russian economic policy at the macroeconomic level.

Abstract:
Studying the architectural science bibliography has shown that during 150 years of its history few indices have been created, and recent decades almost all architectural bibliography has not gone beyond the framework of the nation-wide index «Chronicles of Book Chamber». This article examines the fundamental nature of bibliographic science for purposes of architectural research. The article objective is determining ways of architectural bibliography development and generating a unified database of architectural knowledge in the context of contemporary socio-economic and socio-cultural realities. It considers defended dissertations on specialty «Architecture»; describes information resources containing in their thesis structure on the subject area. Attention is focused on the distribution of defended dissertations by years, cities and thematic nests. The paper has revealed thesis devoted to the theory and history of foreign architecture. It emphasizes the need of further large-scale research with an analysis of the entire spectrum of human knowledge, which includes dissertations related to architectural science. The authors conclude: 1. There is no complete systematically presented unified catalog of dissertations on architecture, including resources of the Russian Book Chamber. 2. It is necessary to create such resource, which would satisfy the information needs of different groups of users.

Full text
Abstract:
The wetlands located at the periphery of Jimma town, southwestern Ethiopia, have critical roles in providing a range of ecological and socio-economic benefits, yet they are subject to increasing anthropogenic disturbances, notably through agriculture, settlement, intensive grazing and brick-making. This study assessed the ecological status of these wetlands, and examined the scale of the human disturbances that local communities might impose on them. Macroinvertebrate communities, water quality parameters, and human disturbance scores were assessed. Except for electrical conductivity and water temperature, no significant difference (P < 0.05) was found in physico-chemical parameters between the sampled sites. Nitrate was the only parameter that correlated with significant influence on species richness of the sampled macroinvertebrates. A total of 10 metrics were used to generate the index of biotic integrity (IBI). This IBI was then tested based on macroinvertebrate data collected. Ways of assessing and evaluating the existing ecological status of the wetlands are discussed in the context of physico-chemical parameters, IBI based on macroinvertebrates and human disturbance scales. Key Words: Catchments land use; Water quality; Macroinvertebrate; Index of Biotic Integrity; Wetland DOI: 10.3126/jowe.v3i0.2265 Journal of Wetlands Ecology, (2009) Vol. 3, pp 77-93

Full text
Abstract:
Groundwater resources from a region may be subject to complex human and climatic pressure. The present study tries to analyze the human and climatic pressure on the groundwater resources from the eastern part of Romania, between 1983 and 2017, for seven groundwater bodies. Two parameters, the groundwater exploitation index (GWEI) and the Standardized Groundwater Index (SGI) for identifying hydrogeological droughts, were used to assess human and climatic pressure. The high values of GWEI show a significant increase in human pressure on water resources in recent decades, in lower and more populated areas, from the south and north part of de region, amid increasing investment in agriculture. In the case of climate pressure, the SGI values show significant values for the years 1983, 2000, 2007, and 2012. However, the overlap of hydrogeological droughts with an increase in human pressure can have a significant impact on the groundwater resources from this region, with negative effects in the mid and long term, under the growing effects of the regional climate changes.

Abstract:
On the eve of anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, the authors turned to the previously unexplored subject, namely, the work of bibliographers of the USSR Academy of Sciences for the defence of the country. Before, the professional work of bibliographers during the War was not studied in this aspect that determines the relevance and scientific novelty of the topic under consideration. The purpose of the article is to show that during the War bibliography turned from ideological tool of the Party to form a new type of person into the only reliable information tool for solving the most important warfare and national economic problems in the wartime conditions. The article describes the work of the Commission for compilation of bibliography by countries, which was formed under the Section of the special libraries network of the USSR Academy of Sciences in May 1942. Based on the unique archival documents, the authors show for the first time how bibliographers of the libraries of the USSR Academy of Sciences in cooperation with colleagues from the V.I. Lenin State Library of the USSR, the Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, the Central Polytechnic library and other major libraries of the country managed to provide the military leadership, scientists and specialists of the national economy with reliable timely information on problems that arose in wartime, up to making strategic decisions in the field of planning defence, offensives and radical reorganization of industry and agriculture. The authors conclude that the decent work of bibliographers in the war years, providing information for any level of decision-making, played its role in approaching the Victory. This is the basis for understanding the current role of library specialists, their professionalism and responsibility in the information support for the development of Russia.
