Abstract:
The article describes the evolution of views of leading scientists in the field of bibliology regarding the book trade. It focuses on the concepts created by some of the founders of bibliology such as N. Lisowski, A. Lovyagin, M. Kufaev. Views on book trade presented in the works of Soviet book specialists in the 1920s—30s (M. Shchelkunov, N. Somov, A. Mézières) are also outlined. Attention is given to the discussion of the structure of bibliological sciences as a comprehensive science, as well as the place that book trade occupies within it in the period of the "rebirth" of bibliology. Furthermore, the article analyzes the place of book trade in the functional concepts of bibliology created by A. Barsuk. It also focuses on the role of book trade in the writings of J. Morgenstern, E. Nemirovsky, and in M. Nyzovyi four-component structure of book science. The views on book trade within the systematic-typological concepts of bibliology by A. Belovickaya are also considered. The article also defines the place of book trade in the documentional conception (Yu. Stolyarov, A. Shvetsova-Vodka) and presents the views on this phenomenon reflected in the works of M. Raz and V. Markova. The analysis of the aforementioned reflections on the book trade as an object of bibliographic research allows the author to conclude that in the conceptions of leading scholars it is regarded as a part of book sciences (traditional bibliology), as a communication intermediary in documental communication (documental concept), and as a communication intermediary in book communications (socio-communicative approach). Finally, the article identifies the prospects of further studies for scientific research on the e-book trade.

Abstract:
The monograph by E. Deaner «The electronic book as a bibliological object» [«Elektronnaya kniga kak kategoriya knigovedeniya», 2017, in Russian] is analyzed. The monograph logically extends the previous book by the same author published in 2016, namely “Theoretical and methodological foundations of digital books as a bibliological category” [«Teoretikometodologicheskiye osnovy elektronnoy knigi kak kategorii knigovedeniya», in Russian]. The monograph is seen as a radical breakthrough in the modern Russian bibliology, as it tends to reconcile the traditional bibliology and new information technologies on which e-publishing and book distribution are based today. The author demonstrates that digital books completely matches the theoretical and practical provisions of bibliology and documentology being specific type of the document rather than a specific genre. The digital books can be blended seamlessly into the book culture phenomenon, to enrich it with a radically new and innovative object. The high appraisal is given to the methodological approaches toward defining the concept of the digital book and its representation within the book communication system. The principle of the digital book ergonomics is examined in detail and is positively appraised, as well as the principle main factors, i.e.: the material, semantic, signatury, syntactic, pragmatic and temporal elements. The monograph content would enable to liven up the academic courses in bibliology and documentology. The librarians in collection development and digital collection development and bibliographers will make the readership of the monograph.

Abstract:
The assessment of the current state of bibliology in Czechia, i.e. directions of its development and research accomplishments as well as staff training, is impossible without a historical overview of the evolution of bibliology as a more or less independent scholarly discipline. A study has recently been devoted to the subject, but only for the period until the beginning of the Second World War. That is why the author of the article, drawing on the literature on the subject, internet sources and information obtained from the staff of relevant research institutions, focuses first of all on the second half of the twentieth century, i.e. the role and accomplishments of the most important figures involved in the development of the discipline, the position of bibliology in the higher education system at the time as well as the changes which occurred in it in connection with the political breakthrough of 1989 and the emergence of computerised systems towards the end of the twentieth century. A substantial part of the article is devoted to the events from the last two decades. The author notes the rather difficult situation of the discipline at the turn of the millennium as well as attempts to rebuild it, manifested primarily in its restoration to the curriculum in the 2007/2008 academic year, increasingly successful eff orts of libraries and museums (“institutions of memory”) to obtain funds for scholarly activities, and attempts to formulate a concept of further development of the discipline. In the conclusion the author refl ects on the prospects for the development of bibliology in the nearest future, as well as measures that may lead to is further evolution and revival in broad research into the history of book culture in Czechia.

Abstract:
From its origins in the early modern period up until today, German bibliology has undergone a huge transformation both in terms of its relationship to other subjects and its research areas. The article describes the development of bibliology in Germany from its beginnings in bibliographic and librarian contexts, over its evolvement as a field of study in its own rights in the late 18th century, until its current situation as a university subject. Today, German book science is a relatively small discipline which might profit from integration in broader media studies already proposed a decade ago. It has links to many other humanities subjects, especially librarian, literary, linguistic and cultural studies, and sees its task in integrating interdisciplinary research on the book instead of monopolising it. Due to the lack of an overall book theory or model, this also means making use of the research approaches of these adjoining disciplines whenever they seem promising. The bibliological studies on all aspects of books, implicitly oriented on the steps of production, distribution and reception of books and conducted by the few professorial chairs of book science, are complemented by several non-university institutions and research groups.

Abstract:
The aim of the article is to examine the origins, directions of development, methodological assumptions and research categories in Belarusian bibliology as an autonomous academic discipline. An analysis of the most important achievements of books studies in Belarus, the beginnings of which as a science go back to the turn of the nineteenth century, has enabled the author to formulate a number of research hypotheses. Of key importance to the development of Belarusian bibliology were historical studies — they laid the foundations for the modern book science theory, as it was only thanks to research into book history that it became possible to formulate the theory of books studies, the role and place of the book in scholarship, research methods and conceptual apparatus of the discipline. An important role in the development of the methodology of bibliological research in the second half of the twentieth century was played by the studies of the Polish scholar Krzysztof Migoń. A considerable role was also played by the methods developed for the needs of bibliography and library science. The origins and evolution of bibliology in Belarus were and are inextricably linked to the role of the book as a means of disseminating and recording the achievements of the human thought, to the traditions of society’s intellectual development, cultural identity of the Belarusian people as well as the general knowledge of book culture. Belarusian bibliology has some significant achievements to its credit, both in historical studies and in book theory and methodology of book studies. As a result, it is possible to speak of the Belarusian book studies school, which is characterised by: 1) the use of interdisciplinary research methodology as well as scholarly interaction with disciplines like philosophy, culture studies, bibliography studies and information studies; 2) development of axiological and phenomenological research; and 3) development of international collaboration in order to make the Belarusian book studies recognisable in international academia. A considerable role was and still is played by bibliological journals, which are a platform for presenting scholarly achievements in the discipline (they include Кнігазнаўчыя чытанні, Кірыла-Мяфодзіеўскія чытанні, Берковские чтения) as well as publication series devoted to the subject.

Abstract:
THE CONTRIBUTION OF ACADEMIC LIBRARY SCIENCE TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF BIBLIOLOGY AND INFORMATION SCIENCE IN POLAND IN 1945–2015The aim of the study is to present the origins and development of academic institutions educating librarians in Poland in 1945–2015, taking into account the institutional and scholarly aspects. In the first part of the paper the author presents the history of various institutions — university faculties, departments and institutes — divided into three chronological periods 1945–1974, 1975–1989, 1990–2015. She takes into account the circumstances surrounding their establishment including the legal framework, their founders, staff, organisational structures and their changes. In addition, she points to other manifestations of academic life influencing the work of academic library science centres, like conferences and professional journals. In the second part, devoted to a discussion of research into bibliology and information science conducted at Polish universities, the author focuses on the various subjects, treating chronology only as an element organising descriptions of research processes at the various library studies centres. She points to areas of research as well as changes occurring in their subjects in the analysed period, referring to the names of selected scholars and titles of their most important works. Like in part one, she also discusses the social, political and cultural determinants stimulating research processes, paying particular attention to the impact of the new technologies and media. The author’s overview confirms the huge role played by academic institutions engaged in library studies in the consolidation of the position of bibliology as an academic discipline, but at the same time shows how the research profile of book science has been changing in recent years, evolving in the direction of phenomena associated with information science and new technologies.

Abstract:
In the modern world, global changes are taking place in all spheres of society, including economy, science, education and culture. In this regard, a detailed analysis and comprehension of ongoing processes become relevant to develop a specific strategy. In 2021, the Ministry of Science and Higher Education adopted the Order «On the approval of the nomenclature of scientific specialties for which scientific degrees are awarded <….>”; the nomenclature of scientific specialties was published, where specialty 05.25.03 «Library Science, Bibliography science and Bibliology» was not reflected (among pedagogical, historical, philological, technical sciences). This document came next to a draft nomenclature of scientific specialties (2020), which was widely discussed by the scientific community. The library community and representatives of university science carried out a number of activities aimed at changing the situation. The authors recreate the picture of forming and growing the profile scientific specialty, including its presentation in the nomenclature of scientific specialties for which scientific degrees are awarded since 1957; analyze statistic materials on post-graduate training of highly qualified scientific personnel and activity to defense dissertations in 1999–2020; generalize and assess the data, consider the problems and vectors of this specialty development to justify the inclusion of the specialty «Library Science, Bibliography Science and Bibliology» in the new nomenclature of scientific specialties to continue the training of highly qualified scientific personnel in graduate school, and to carry out specialized research. The article argues that the consequences of the ongoing reforms in science have led to transformations, slowing down the rotation of scientific personnel, extinguishing the activities of dissertation councils and scientific schools in library science, bibliography and bibliology in the regions and complicating the development of library and information science in general.

Abstract:
I begin this paper by surveying qualitative distinctives of Pentecostal Bible reading, which together contribute to the missional localizing giftedness of Pentecostalism worldwide. In Part 2 I then suggest that detrimentally incongruent to these distinctives are several Fundamentalist-Evangelical mediated postures to Scripture. In Part 3 I address this incongruence by proposing a Pentecostal lex legendi (“rule of reading”), built on Telford Work’s “Trinitarian-Ontology of Scripture.” I argue that Work’s bibliology provides a compelling theological premise for both the Pentecostal dynamic and polyvalent understanding of biblical revelation, and substantiates theological pluralism as intrinsic to Pentecostal tradition. Further building on Work’s bibliology, I then propose a Pentecostal form of lectio divina (“sacred reading”) that structures the classical/medieval fourfold Scripture sense, to a constructivist understanding of the threefold Pentecostal soteriological experiences (redemption, sanctification, and Spirit baptism). I conclude by delineating how this Pentecostal form of lectio divina may help Pentecostals identify and utilize theological hermeneutics that best foster the Pentecostal missiological giftedness, and hence the pluralizing of Pentecostalism(s) worldwide.

THEORETICAL ASPECTS OF DOCUMENTARY ELEMENTS WITH SPECIAL CONSIDERATION OF ABSTRACTS. A RESEARCH PROPOSAL CONCERNING ARTICLES FROM BIBLIOLOGY JOURNALSReferring to the changes taking place in modern scholarly communication and the specificity of scholarly discourse, the authors present the latest conclusions from research concerning improvement of comprehensibility of documentary analyses, summaries and abstracts. This is influenced by text readability, and the structure and cognitive value of documentary elements. The authors present a typology of such elements as well as their distinctive features. On this basis they propose a new research methodology. Thanks to this methodology it will be possible to verify: 1. whether elements attached to articles from bibliology journals are, according to recommendations, more readable easier to comprehend than the content of the articles themselves;2. the current tendency in their length, which should be increased, according to recommendations;3. whether, in accordance with recommendations, all keywords have been used in the elements, which will facilitate article indexation in databases; 4. whether the existing terminological recommendations correspond to the actual language usage. The initial results obtained by the authors show that research in this area should be continued, as the proposed hypotheses require in-depth analysis and verification.

Abstract:
In the Decree of the President V. V. Putin of July 21, 2020 "On the national development goals of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030", there are two national goals that are directly related to the book and library business: the education of a harmoniously developed and socially responsible personality and the implementation of digital transformation of key sectors of the economy and social spheres. The Russian Bibliologos (book mind) has been creatively and collectively created over millennia. Cognition of the essence of the Bibliologos is a priority task of book and library science and library and information education today. The article examines the biological and social prerequisites of book communication, the dynamics of the development of the classical Bibliologos and the scientific and pedagogical foundations of the formation of the non-classical Bibliologos of the XXI century. The Bibliologos is understood as a biologically and socially determined intelligent productive force mastered by people in the process of hominization (humanization). The following functional definition is proposed: Bibliologos is the collective mind of a historically stable community of people who own the book culture, write and read books and are directly involved in the production of the bibliosphere. The Classical Bibliosphere is defined as a supersystem of book-communication systems that ensures the reproduction, preservation and further development of the national book culture. The structure of the bibliosphere is formed by socio-cultural institutions (systems, or branches of the book business), namely: publishing, printing industry, book trade, librarianship, bibliography. Each institute includes practice, education, science, special communication, management bodies. The branch problems of the bibliosphere are studied by related, but relatively independent, scientific and practical studies (bibliography, library science, records management, book history, bibliopolistics, editsiology, etc.), and bibliology is engaged in general problems – a complex science (or a complex of sciences) about books and books, as well as general document theory, or documentology. In addition to branch institutes, the bodies of the bibliosphere are: bibliophile socio-cultural movement; non-profit and commercial founders and voluntary associations; government authorities and censorship. The participation of the Russian Bibliologos and the library school in the implementation of the human-creative project as a national target is envisaged. Particular attention is paid to the European experience of modeling a new type of person, the historical project "Memory for the Future", cyber-socialization of the society of the future, topical issues of non-classical library and information education and the synthesis of book culture and digital culture of the XXI century. It is concluded that national security and the well-being of future generations depend on the non-classical Bibliosphere, in particular on national libraries and school librarians.

What do covers say? About quality of visual communicates of Polish contemporary publications on bibliology and informatologyThe aim of the article is not only to point out at low quality of typography of contemporary scientific books published in Poland, but mainly to aware that it generates negative impact on communication value. In that context 400 books published in Poland by bibliologists in last 10 years were analyzed by authors of the article. The conclusions presented in the article were based on the analysis of the semantic quality of covers semantic relations of text and image. The most typical and repetitive errors e.g. neutrality, literalism and incompatibility were shown and described. Last, but not least, it was proven by some of good examples, that working on and achieving the proper quality of communication in cover’s design is possible, despite the costs. The only way to success is to understand the real needs of users and design thinking in books’ design.

Abstract:
The concept of “Russian North” is actively used in the media and in scientific literature. However, only few people think about its meaning. In the field of bibliology, the uncertainty of the idea of the Russian North territory complicates the selection of material for studying the book culture of this region. Analysis of the practice of using the concept shows that this problem appeared in the 19th century, when researchers differently defined the territory of the Russian North. In most cases, they were directed by the conclusions of historical science, which included in this region all the lands ever and in any way connected with the Novgorod Republic. This stereotype, formed almost 200 years ago, still exists now. However, the data obtained as a result of archeological and historical research carried out over the last 50 years cast doubts on the validity of the Novgorod paradigm. In ethnography, methods of which began to be actively used in book studies in the second half of the 20th century, there is also no unified opinion on the territorial structure of the Russian North. Attempts to combine its borders with the areas of distribution of North Russian dialects and the complex of traditional North Russian household culture have shown ineffectiveness of this method in modern world. On the one hand, new culturological theories that appeared at the cusp of the 20th—21st centuries offered new aspects for studying the Russian North, but on the other hand, they moved it into the field of abstraction, actually depriving it of its geographic boundaries. As long as the issue of the Russian North localization remains open in bibliology, this study attempts to systemize and analyze the accumulated information. As a result, the article raises questions about the necessity of further preservation of the stereotype; about the eligibility to classify to the Russian North the territories that are not related to it in terms of geography, or have a conditional relation from the point of view of history; about the rightness of application of the toponymic form of the concept in relation to the North European part of Russia, without regard to the North of Siberia. In conclusion, the article makes some correction in relation to the authorship of the term “Russian North”, which is traditionally attributed to the Civil Governor of Arkhangelsk A.P. Engelgardt.

The concerns arouse that this speciality might be excluded from the educational programs. The post-graduate programs is to become the third level of higher education. One more attempt should be made to stand for our profession by referring to global precedents, i. e. to the International Standard Classification of Education (ISCE), adopted by the UNESCOGeneral Assembly in 2011, and to FOS (Revised field of science and technology, classification in the Frascati manual). The latter is the international classification of science and technology adopted and approved by 75% world countries to represent scientific disciplines and to unify world statistical data. Abstract:
The subject of facsimiles has rarely been explored in Polish bibliology. That is why the present study is an attempt to systematise the knowledge of the subject on the basis of bibliological and scholarly sources, both Polish and foreign. Facsimiles are made to represent the most important features of documents, including the faithfulness in the reproduction of the original, content added during facsimile edition (back matter, commentary) as well as formal and editorial features. The very process of producing a facsimile consists in advanced scanning of the original document, precise printing guaranteeing faithful reproduction of colours, manual treatment (e.g. cutting of holes, gilding etc.) and binding. All these elements are to make the facsimile similar to the original as much as possible. Facsimiles serve as substitutes of original documents, making it possible to disseminate and protect the originals, and use them in research or popularising activities. Given the aesthetic and material value, they may also become collector’s items or investments for potential users. Today facsimiles are undergoing transformations in the context of their roles and functions.
