Abstract:
This paper presents an integrated and easy methodology for bibliometric analysis. The proposed methodology is evaluated on recent research activities to highlight the role of the Internet of Things in healthcare applications. Different tools are used for bibliometric studies to explore the breadth and depth of different research areas. However, these Methods consider only the Web of Science or Scopus data for bibliometric analysis. Furthermore, bibliometric analysis has not been fully utilised to examine the capabilities of the Internet of Things for medical devices and their applications. There is a need for an easy methodology to use for a single integrated analysis of data from many sources rather than just the Web of Science or Scopus. A few bibliometric studies merge the Web of Science and Scopus to conduct a single integrated piece of research. This paper presents a methodology that could be used for a single bibliometric analysis across multiple databases. Three freely available tools, Excel, Perish or Publish and the R package Bibliometrix, are used for the purpose. The proposed bibliometric methodology is evaluated for studies related to the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) and its applications in healthcare settings. An inclusion/exclusion criterion is developed to explore relevant studies from the seven largest databases, including Scopus, Web of Science, IEEE, ACM digital library, PubMed, Science Direct and Google Scholar. The study focuses on factors such as the number of publications, citations per paper, collaborative research output, h-Index, primary research and healthcare application areas. Data for this study are collected from the seven largest academic databases for 2012 to 2022 related to IoMT and their applications in healthcare. The bibliometric data analysis generated different research themes within IoMT technologies and their applications in healthcare research. The study has also identified significant research areas in this field. The leading research countries and their contributions are another output from the data analysis. Finally, future research directions are proposed for researchers to explore this area in further detail.

PERI, ILARIA. "Quasi-convex risk measures and acceptability indices. Theory and applications." Doctoral thesis, Università degli Studi di Milano-Bicocca, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/10281/29745.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis is organized in two parts: in the first one, we treat risk measures and acceptability indices from a theoretical point of view, while in the second part, we propose two applications of the quasi-convex results. The first contribute of the thesis regards the dual representation of quasi-convex and monotone maps. In particular, we compare the dual representation proposed by Cerreia-Vioglio et al (2011) and Drapeau and Kupper (2010) and we prove that they coincide. On the light of this comparison, we also propose a new representation for the quasi-concave and monotone acceptability indices. In the second part of the thesis we propose two different applications of the quasi- convex analysis to different sectors. The common idea has been to build a quasi-convex risk measure defining a particular family of acceptability sets, taking inspiration from the papers of Cherny and Madan (2009) and Drapeau and Kupper (2010). The first application is to the financial sector. We introduce a new class of law invariant risk measures, directly defined on the set P(R) of probability measures on R, that are monotone and quasi-convex on P(R). We build these maps by an appropriate family of acceptance sets of distribution functions. We study the properties of such maps and we provide some example. In particular, we propose a generalization of the classical notion of the V@R_λ, called ΛV@R, that takes into account not only the probability λ of the losses, but the balance between such probability and the amount of the loss. The V@R_λ and other known law invariant risk measures turn out to be special cases of our proposal. We further prove the dual representation of Risk Measures on P(R). The second application is to the evaluation of the scientific research. We introduce a new family of scientific performance measures, called Scientific Research Measures (SRM). This proposal originates from the recent developments in the theory of quasi-convex risk measures and is an attempt to resolve the many problems of the existing bibliometric indices. The key idea underlying the definition of SRM is the representation of quasi-concave monotone maps in terms of a family of acceptance sets. Through this approach, the SRMs are: flexible to fit peculiarities of different areas and seniorities; inclusive, as they comprehend several popular indices; coherent, as they share the same structural properties; calibrated to the particular scientific community; granular, as they allow a more precise comparison between scientists and are based on the whole scientist’s citation curve. We also provide a dual representation of a SRM, that suggests a new interesting approach to the whole area of bibliometric indices. Finally, we present a method to compute a particular SRM, called φ-index, and some result obtained by the calibration to a specific scientific sector.

Abstract:
In recent discussions of library and information science (LIS) educators, reducing heterophily, the lack of similarity between two groups or individuals, among LIS researchers and practitioners has b een emphasized. Two researchers with different backgrounds, one in bibliometrics and the other in case study, have observed and discussed applications of bibliometrics and case study as used in teach ing research methods. The main thrust is in providing tools for teaching these research methods so that the gap between research and practical application could be narrowed. Dr. Leena Siitonen discus ses in her paper applications in teaching case study research methods. Bibliometric methods are seldom used by librarians in practical work. Still these methods grow more important when planning information provision in research libraries. New subject fields develop and the number of interdisciplinary publications have during the last decades grown exponentially. It is, though, difficult to organise information in new fields, when the classification systems, used f or instance by journal services, have a discipline based structure. The need to organize this information and help the user to identify relevant documents grows more important, and at the same time t he huge amount of available documents give great possibilities to apply bibliometrics easily and in the frame of practical work. Bibliometrics provide a tool for getting the core for developing a loc al collection in a new field. Teaching bibliometric methods could be developed by 1. seminars, where the students learn the methods and also learn to interprete their results by comparing with other studies, and 2. by use of online systems which give good bases for different bibliometric methods.

Pereira, Liliana Catarina Lopes. "Research and market trends in the area of macro- and microalgae: patent analysis and bibliometrics." Master's thesis, 2020. http://hdl.handle.net/10773/30387.

Full text
Abstract:
Algae (macroalgae and microalgae) are aquatic and photosynthetic organisms that contain a huge variety of natural compounds with a high added value for different sectors, with highlight for food applications/human nutrition. In fact, 83 % of the seaweed harvested and cultivated is consumed by humans as direct food source or as food additive (mostly phycocolloids), and microalgae biomass has been mainly practiced in the markets of food health during the last decades. Scientific proves are constantly appearing and supporting the vast potential of algae in human health and nutrition. This work aimed to use Technology Surveillance to detect technology innovation opportunities and new ideas in macro- and microalgae sectors and, consequently, use Technology Forecasting approaches to study the impact of algae technologies at some time in the future (technology trends). Using patent bibliometrics and literature bibliometrics, were studied and analysed, respectively, market and academic research trends. The seaweed patents portfolio is much bigger (49582 patent) than microalgae patents portfolio (12524 patents) which is also observed for the bibliometric analysis, where macroalgae has 731 published documents in the Food area whereas microalgae has 376 documents. Seaweed applications are more related with Food Chemistry and Organic Fine Chemistry (KAO, producer of chemistry & cosmetic products, is the major key player) and microalgae applications are more related with Biotechnology (ENN Science & Technology Development, operates in the energy field, is the major player). Was also observed in the bibliometric study that microalgae have more subject areas, with more published documents, related with Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences and Energy Fuels than related with Food Science, which occurs for macroalgae case. China is the country that detain the major algae patents portfolios, however in relation to the published literature on the subject, Europe is the largest investor in algal studies related with food applications, in particular Spain. The co-authorship analysis between authors show as that Portuguese authors lead in macroalgae research, with most connected items, and Belgian authors lead in microalgae research. In terms of coauthorship between institutions, the lack of cooperation/relationship between various institutions/organizations in the microalgae case study was not observed in the case of macroalgae. Both for macro and microalgae the co-authorship between countries gave us the information of the cooperation between different countries, with highlight for Spain. The keywords “functional food”, “antioxidant activity” and “antioxidant” are important terms for macro and microalgae bibliometric analysis despite the absence of those terms in the patent analysis. Thus, algae are not only a trend for market (with different technology applications) but also in academic literature, related with Food Science and Technology, considering the recommendations of Blue Economy for a more sustainable future.

Abstract:
博士
輔仁大學
商學研究所博士班
106
The daily broadening large scale data mounts many new challenges to the processing and analysis of various types of data. Management science is subjected to related data and its inferred consequences. However, the effectiveness of some traditional statistical methods are open to doubt, and the outcomes of induction and deduction may be hard to accurately pilot the related management and operations. In practical operation, we usually find the relation between variables is more changeable and unreliable than that is assumed in traditional statistical methods; the analysis depends on individual/local data no longer meet people's demands. Analysis based-on network may offer the possibilities for exploring relations between variables and provide systematic perspectives on problems. As the data volume increases, the problem of sparseness will arise. On the measurement of correlation, the traditional methods do not consider the sparseness of the data adequately; simultaneously, whether the correlation is merely a simple linear relationship is still under discussion. This thesis attempts to improve the problems encountered by the traditional correlation coefficients in the case of non-linear and inflated from the analysis of the correlation between the Copula bases network analysis method. And this method can systematically obtain important factors and categories in the data. The simulation analysis results show that the Copula based correlation measurement can better describe the true relationship between variables with higher robustness and solve the variance and bias under traditional correlation measurement. Empirical study used the publications of NHIRD which were provided publicly by PubMed. We construct the Copula based network model to find the collaborative network between authors and organizations, and discovered the research topic detection and temporal trend based on Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) terms, so as to provide practical value to related administrative department and attempt to bring the theoretical frame of management science to completion.

Abstract:
碩士
淡江大學
中國大陸研究所碩士班
100
The previous studies on cross border S&T cooperation mainly focus on the selection of important fields and the patterns of cooperation usually by measuring patents or R&D investments. Different from the previous studies, the thesis intends to explore the patterns and the motivations of China’s cross-border S&T cooperation especially with the advanced countries, by using the approach of bibliometrics instead. In line with the approach of bibliometrics, this study targets the patterns of China’s cross-border S&T cooperation with the U.S., EU, and Japan by measuring their international co-authorship and drawing on the WOS database of 20 fields over the period of 1990-2010. Especially by focusing on the top five important fields, namely physics, clinical medicine, engineering, materials science, and chemistry, the study intends to explore the determinants of China’s S&T cooperation hiring a quantitative model with the revealed comparative advantage index. As implied by the empirical evidence, cross-border learning is the core elements of China’s S&T cooperation.

Abstract:
Journal of the American Society for Information Science and Technology [JASIST] (forthcoming)
To be published in Journal of the American Society for Information Science & Technology 57(12) (2006) 1616-1628. Abstract: Co-occurrence matrices, such as co-citation, co-word, and co-link matrices, have been used widely in the information sciences. However, confusion and controversy have hindered the proper statistical analysis of this data. The underlying problem, in our opinion, involved understanding the nature of various types of matrices. This paper discusses the difference between a symmetrical co-citation matrix and an asymmetrical citation matrix as well as the appropriate statistical techniques that can be applied to each of these matrices, respectively. Similarity measures (like the Pearson correlation coefficient or the cosine) should not be applied to the symmetrical co-citation matrix, but can be applied to the asymmetrical citation matrix to derive the proximity matrix. The argument is illustrated with examples. The study then extends the application of co-occurrence matrices to the Web environment where the nature of the available data and thus data collection methods are different from those of traditional databases such as the Science Citation Index. A set of data collected with the Google Scholar search engine is analyzed using both the traditional methods of multivariate analysis and the new visualization software Pajek that is based on social network analysis and graph theory.

Abstract:
Buildings are experiencing tremendous transformation, where Internet of things (IoT) is been used to transform traditional buildings into smart structures. While there are viable IoT techniques, developing IoT applications and operations to fully realise the technology's promise is needed. This may be done successfully by bridging the gaps in the present research to establish a foundation for future investigations. This study analysed extant literature in IoT (between 2008 and 2022) through a bibliometric review to tease out critical measures for their integration and transformation. The study adopted a science mapping quantitative literature review approach and employed bibliometric and visualisation techniques to systematically investigate data. The Scopus database was used to collect data and VOSviewer software to analyse the data collected to determine the strengths, weights, clusters, research trends in IoT. Important findings emerging from the study include recent literature by various researchers on IoT applications in buildings. The shift in recent patterns of research from developed to developing countries. Eighty-nine (89) keywords were analysed and divided into six clusters. Each cluster is discussed to present its research area and associated future studies in relation to Smart buildings. This paper uses bibliometric analysis to unpick recent trends in IoT and its relevant application to buildings. The paper provides a blueprint for future IoT research and practice, needed awareness and future strategy directions for IoT applications in construction. This creates opportunities to transition to more sustainable construction sector

Abstract:
Contrary to common expectations, 65-90% of the audience of open science platforms comes from non-academics. New research has shown that the open science movement has largely expanded the social, economic and cultural scope of scientific research. Regular users include students, non-academic professionals or private citizens. Private and public structures extensively rely on open research to create new innovations and better document existing practices or products. Significant professional uses of academic research has been attested in numerous sectors such as the aircraft industry, banking, insurances, consulting firms or the media. Social science publications and data are also fundamental resources for policy-making and devising the implementation of new legislations. Beyond commercial applications, open science has a large impact on society. With the massification of high school education, a large share of the general public feel they can benefit in some way from open science (as much as 55% in a 2011 survey in Japan). Access to publications can save lives and help solve long standing health issues: patients have been early on identified as primary beneficiaries of open science, thanks to . Specialized research can also serve a large variety of needs, functions and motivations, including contributions to projects or hobbies or simple curiosity. Finally, open science has facilitated unanticipated uses by academic researchers themselves, as it allows for undiscriminated access regardless of the discipline or the country of provenance. The development of pirate libraries like sci-hub have recently highlighted global inequalities in the access to knowledge, as universities from middle-income countries may not always subscribe to expensive publisher platforms. New tools and methods of studying the audience are being developed, as the standard bibliometrics indexes are currently limited to the academic reception of citations. Enhanced analytic infrastructures has led to the development of user-focused studies (also coinced user bibliometrics) that have been applied to major open science platforms like SciELO, Redalyc, Erudit, OpenEdition or journal.fi. Models of scientific popularization have also been rethought, as direct access to academic publications create additional channels for the circulation of knowledge. Social impact has been recently acknowledged as an important feature of open science platforms. This has shifted the objectives of scientific institutions, funders and policy-makers, encouraging notably linguistic diversity of research. Non-academic audiences are more likely to access scientific outputs in their local language: as much as 80% of the general public of the journal.fi platform read resources in Finnish.
