Library science is one of the fastest-growing fields of knowledge, especially in Southeast Asian countries. This study aims to determine library science publications in Southeast Asia with approaches, namely bibliometrics, social network analysis, almetrics, and linear regression test. This study's data were taken from the Scopus web to obtain bibliographic data from library science publications in ten countries published in 1960-2019. Bibliometrics analysis uses Microsoft Excel calculations, mapping/scientometrics uses Vos viewer and Gephi, while altmetrics analysis uses altmetric.com. Based on the bibliometric analysis, the results showed that the most productive country is Malaysia, with 287 articles. The most sponsored publication’s country is Malaysia, with 57 articles. International journals that are popular as destinations for publication of library science articles in Southeast Asia are the Malaysian Journal of Library and Information Science (MJLIS). The country that has the most impact factor for citation is Singapore, with 4.922 citations. The country with the highest level of collaboration is Malaysia, with a total collaboration of 243 articles. The research results are based on social network analysis that the country that has the highest influence is Malaysia with a degree centrality (DC) of 301, closeness centrality (CC) of 0.61, and between centrality (BC) 0.66. The results of the study are based on altmetrics analysis. The country with the most shares/mentions on social media is Singapore, with 5.223 shares/mentions, the second is Malaysia 1467 shares/mentions. Meanwhile, based on the linear regression test that there is an influence between social media and citation, it is indicated by the Sig value of 0.001. Meanwhile, the large correlation between social media and citations was 97.8%.

OpenCitations is an infrastructure organization for open scholarship dedicated to the publication of open citation data as Linked Open Data using Semantic Web technologies, thereby providing a disruptive alternative to traditional proprietary citation indexes. Open citation data are valuable for bibliometric analysis, increasing the reproducibility of large-scale analyses by enabling publication of the source data. Following brief introductions to the development and benefits of open scholarship and to Semantic Web technologies, this paper describes OpenCitations and its data sets, tools, services, and activities. These include the OpenCitations Data Model; the SPAR (Semantic Publishing and Referencing) Ontologies; OpenCitations’ open software of generic applicability for searching, browsing, and providing REST APIs over resource description framework (RDF) triplestores; Open Citation Identifiers (OCIs) and the OpenCitations OCI Resolution Service; the OpenCitations Corpus (OCC), a database of open downloadable bibliographic and citation data made available in RDF under a Creative Commons public domain dedication; and the OpenCitations Indexes of open citation data, of which the first and largest is COCI, the OpenCitations Index of Crossref Open DOI-to-DOI Citations, which currently contains over 624 million bibliographic citations and is receiving considerable usage by the scholarly community.

The Journal of Universal Computer Science is a monthly peer-reviewed open-access scientific journal covering all aspects of computer science, launched in 1994, so becoming twenty-five years old in 2019. In order to celebrate its anniversary, this study presents a bibliometric overview of the leading publication and citation trends occurring in the journal. The aim of the work is to identify the most relevant authors, institutions, countries, and analyze their evolution through time. The article uses the Web of Science Core Collection citations and the ACM Computing Classification System in order to search for the bibliographic information. Our study also develops a graphical mapping of the bibliometric material by using the visualization of similarities (VOS) viewer. With this software, the work analyzes bibliographic coupling, citation and co-citation analysis, co-authorship, and co-occurrence of keywords. The results underline the significant growth of the journal through time and its international diversity having publications from countries all over the world and covering a wide range of categories which confirms the “universal” character of the journal.

Purpose The International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management is a leading international journal in the field of hospitality and tourism management. It was started in 1989, and it turns 30 years old this year. To celebrate this anniversary, this paper presents a bibliometric overview of the publication and citation structure of the journal over the past 30 years. The purpose of this paper is to identify the relevant issues in terms of keywords and topics and who is achieving better results in terms of authors, universities and countries. Design/methodology/approach The Scopus database is used to collect the bibliographical material. A graphical mapping of the bibliographic data is developed by using VOSviewer software. It produces graphical maps with several bibliometric techniques, including co-citation, bibliographic coupling and co-occurrence of keywords. Findings The results indicate that English-speaking countries are producing the highest number of articles in the journal, followed by Asian institutions, with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University as the most productive institution. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, there are no papers that present a general overview of the publication and citation structure of this journal. Its 30th anniversary is a good moment to develop this study.

This paper provides a discussion and analysis of methodological issues encountered during a scholarly impact and bibliometric study within the field of Computer Science (TRECVid Text Retrieval and Evaluation Conference, Video Retrieval Evaluation). The purpose of this paper is to provide a reflection and analysis of the methods used to provide useful information and guidance for those who may wish to undertake similar studies, and is of particular relevance for the academic disciplines which have publication and citation norms that may not perform well using traditional tools. Scopus and Google Scholar are discussed and a detailed comparison of the effects of different search methods and cleaning methods within and between these tools for subject and author analysis is provided. The additional database capabilities and usefulness of ‘Scopus More’ in addition to ‘Scopus General’ are discussed and evaluated. Scopus paper coverage is found to favourably compare with Google Scholar but Scholar consistently has superior performance at finding citations to those papers. These additional citations significantly increase the citation totals and also change the relative ranking of papers. Publish or Perish, a software wrapper for Google Scholar, is also examined and its limitations and some possible solutions are described. Data cleaning methods, including duplicate checks, expert domain checking of bibliographic data, and content checking of retrieved papers, are compared and their relative effects on paper and citation count discussed. Google Scholar and Scopus are also compared as tools for collecting bibliographic data for visualizations of developing trends and, owing to the comparative ease of collecting abstracts, Scopus is found far more effective.

Background Virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) have recently become popular research themes. However, there are no published bibliometric reports that have analyzed the corresponding scientific literature in relation to the application of these technologies in medicine. Objective We used a bibliometric approach to identify and analyze the scientific literature on VR and AR research in medicine, revealing the popular research topics, key authors, scientific institutions, countries, and journals. We further aimed to capture and describe the themes and medical conditions most commonly investigated by VR and AR research. Methods The Web of Science electronic database was searched to identify relevant papers on VR research in medicine. Basic publication and citation data were acquired using the “Analyze” and “Create Citation Report” functions of the database. Complete bibliographic data were exported to VOSviewer and Bibliometrix, dedicated bibliometric software packages, for further analyses. Visualization maps were generated to illustrate the recurring keywords and words mentioned in the titles and abstracts. Results The analysis was based on data from 8399 papers. Major research themes were diagnostic and surgical procedures, as well as rehabilitation. Commonly studied medical conditions were pain, stroke, anxiety, depression, fear, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders. Overall, contributions to the literature were globally distributed with heaviest contributions from the United States and United Kingdom. Studies from more clinically related research areas such as surgery, psychology, neurosciences, and rehabilitation had higher average numbers of citations than studies from computer sciences and engineering. Conclusions The conducted bibliometric analysis unequivocally reveals the versatile emerging applications of VR and AR in medicine. With the further maturation of the technology and improved accessibility in countries where VR and AR research is strong, we expect it to have a marked impact on clinical practice and in the life of patients.

The present study is based on 393 PhD theses of Earth sciences submitted to the various universities of West Bengal for the award of doctoral degree during the period 1960-2012. Besides, a citation analysis has also been done through the study of 8910 citations appended to the theses for the period of 2008-2012. The main purpose of this study is to investigate chronological distribution of theses, gender-wise distribution, supervisor-ship pattern, subject-wise distribution. The findings of the study revealed that an average of 7.43 theses was published during the whole period under study; the relative growth rate and doubling time for theses under study work out to 0.631 and 0.966 respectively; the grand average number of citations per theses was 146 citations and journals is the most prolific bibliographic forms used by the researchers. This study also examines the conformity to Lotka’s law with the distribution of data.

The article represents two methods of estimating publication citations based on information-analytical systems «Map of Russian science» (IAS MRS) using analytical tools of this system to evaluate research significance of scientists. These techniques are advisory in nature and exemplified by two researchers, who publish the most actively in journal «Scientific and Technical Libraries». They can only be used for the analysis of citation of verified scientists in IAS MRS. The paper gives a comparison with the IAS Russian Science Citation Index. The advantage of the first technique is obtaining data to study the researcher profile in detail. The bibliometric analysis of an individual approach, in contrast to the comparative approach of the second technique is not directed to get the characteristics of «more, less, equal», but to study bibliographic information about publications obtaining not quantitative but qualitative data.The comparative-analytical method has a statistical character showing a quantitative picture, which is the information basis for further bibliometric analysis and getting new qualitative results.

Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the bibliometric characteristics and trends of articles on Islamic economics and finance (IEF) indexed in Scopus by Indonesian authors.Methods: Data were retrieved from the Scopus database. Articles were searched in June 2020 with the limitation of Indonesian authors or affiliation. The keywords used in this study included IEF, and variations thereof, with the search filtered by Indonesian affiliation. Simple statistical methods were used, and a bibliometric analysis was conducted using VOSviewer software. This study visualized patterns of the co-occurrence of keywords, citations of documents, co-citation relationships, and bibliographic coupling.Results: The number of studies in the field of IEF increased in recent years. Articles on IEF have been published in more than 150 journals, among which the most popular was <i>Talent Development and Excellence</i>. Collaboration among authors reached 33 countries, most prominently Malaysia. Certain keywords, such as halal tourism, zakat, and Islamic microfinance, have become the most popular in the last few years. The bibliometric analysis showed that 24 documents had the largest citation relationship, 52 journals had the largest co-citation network, and 172 documents had the largest bibliographic coupling relationship.Conclusion: Research in the field of IEF by Indonesian authors has increased rapidly, with extensive collaboration. <i>Halal</i> tourism is among the most popular research topics in the last few years and is a prospective topic for future research. Moreover, the results showed that sources on IEF were widely used as references.

Researchs on issues of Sustainable Entrepreneurship are gaining traction in recent years, with this trend being aligned to the achievement of sustainable development goals set by the UN in 2030. The purpose of this paper is to carry out a bibliometric analysis on research on the subject of sustainable entrepreneurship. The information gathered is extracted from the main collection of the Web of Science (WoS) database since 1999 up to December 2019. Nvivo and VOSviwer software are used to perform initial analysis and citation analysis, co-citations, bibliographic coupling, coauthoring, among others. This study presents advances associated with the main authors, journals and countries, the general and annual citation structure and the development of this field. The results show that the publication trend increases from 2015 onwards, however 2018 and 2019 have seen the greatest production of articles. In relation to the most influential countries, the Netherlands, the United States, Germany, England and Spain are the most representative. It was also found that the most influential journals are the Journal of Cleaner Production and Sustainability. The main contribution is to show the evolution of this topic, so that researchers can use it in their theoretical frameworks and research.

Introduction. For a long time, The Institute for Scientific Information (ISI, now Thomson Scientific, Philadelphia, US) citation databases, available online through the Web of Science (WoS), had an unique position among bibliographic databases. The emergence of new citation databases, such as Scopus and Google Scholar (GS), call in question the dominance of WoS and the accuracy of bibliometric and citation studies exclusively based on WoS data. The aim of this study was to determine whether there were significant differences in the received citation counts for Serbian Dental Journal (SDJ) found in WoS and Scopus databases, or whether GS results differed significantly from those obtained by WoS and Scopus, and whether GS could be an adequate qualitative alternative for commercial databases in the impact assessment of this journal. Material and Methods. The data regarding SDJ citation was collected in September 2010 by searching WoS, Scopus and GS databases. For further analysis, all relevant data of both, cited and citing articles, were imported into Microsoft Access? database. Results. One hundred and fifty-eight cited papers from SDJ and 249 received citations were found in the three analyzed databases. 74% of cited articles were found in GS, 46% in Scopus and 44% in WoS. The greatest number of citations (189) was derived from GS, while only 15% of the citations, were found in all three databases. There was a significant difference in the percentage of unique citations found in the databases. 58% originated from GS, while Scopus and WoS gave 6% and 4% unique citations, respectively. The highest percentage of databases overlap was found between WoS and Scopus (70%), while the overlap between Scopus and GS was 18% only. In case of WoS and GS the overlap was 17%. Most of the SDJ citations came from original scientific articles. Conclusion. WoS, Scopus and GS produce quantitatively and qualitatively different citation counts for SDJ articles. None of the examined databases can provide a comprehensive picture and it is necessary to take into account all three available sources.

This study provides a retrospective of the evolution and contribution of the journal to service research by identifying its major trends, research constituents, factors contributing to citations and thematic structure over its 29 active years (1991–2019). The paper concludes by providing directions and ideas for progressing service researchDesign/methodology/approachThe study uses the Scopus database to extract JSTP's bibliographic data. It employs bibliometric methods to study the trends of the journal, such as the citation structure and most-contributing authors, institutions and countries. Bibliographic coupling and keyword co-occurrence analyses are used to study the intellectual structure of the journal. Regression analysis discloses the factors influencing citations of JSTP articles. Factors explaining the citation count of JSTP articles include article age, number of author keywords, article length, title length and number of references.FindingsJSTP's influence has grown significantly in the scientific community, which is evidenced by findings relating to the citation counts, the thematic scope/variety and authorship features of the JSTP papers published during the last 30 years. JSTP attracts publications from around the globe, but most contributions come from the United States, United Kingdom and Australia. Although JSTP has continuously evolved with new and varied themes, a bibliographic coupling analysis clustered JSTP articles into five major clusters.Research limitations/implicationsThe limitations of the Scopus database may impact the study's results.Originality/valueThis study is the first to provide a comprehensive review of JSTP since its launch. It is useful to the editorial board and other JSTP stakeholders as well as service scholars alike.

Objective. The paper presents principal theoretical starting points and an overview of attitudes to altmetrics-based research evaluation among scientists of various disciplines in Slovakia, more specifically in comparison with traditional, bibliometric approaches. Design/Methodology/Approach. We used a questionnaire and asked researchers from various disciplines about their knowledge of principle characteristics defining the altmetrics and about their attitudes towards the application of bibliometrics and altmetrics approaches in the processes of research evaluation. The questionnaire covered a wide range of issues, predominantly associated with interpretation and perception of the importance of alternative indicators, including the factors influencing the interpretation. In this analysis, we concentrate on those parts of research reflecting the willingness of respondents to accept alternative indicators as part of research/science assessment. Results/Discussion. The attitude to the application of alternative indicators in research assessment is not significantly more negative among Slovak scientists if we compare it to other countries. The citations are still a respected indicator perceived as a tool for creating bonds within science. If they are perceived as obsolete or insufficient, it relates to the experience of researchers whose results are predominantly aimed at non-academic target group or if they are active in the research of social phenomena and problems. Due to pragmatic reasons connected with research financing, however, registering the citations is a generally accepted priority. Familiarity and practical experience with social media were identified as one of the factors influencing the interpretation of alternative indicators in the environment of both public and academic media. Conclusions. Traditional bibliometric methods, especially in the area of research evaluation, are still preferred over the altmetrics. The scientists realize that the kind of attention captured by the indicators based on social media is not comparable with the citation-based impact. Or, more precisely, that altmetrics reflects a different kind of impact whose correspondence with a traditional world of bibliographic citations remains to be explored. Originality/Value. The article presents the results of original research carried out in the community of scientists in Slovakia, applying quantitative research methods. It contributes to the results of previous studies on the attitudes and acceptance of altmetrics in the research community, with a special focus on research assessment.

Even large citation indexes such as the Web of Science, Scopus or Google Scholar cover only a small fraction of the literature in the humanities. This coverage sensibly decreases going backwards in time. Citation mining of humanities publications — defined as an instance of bibliometric data mining and as a means to the end of building comprehensive citation indexes — remains an open problem. In this contribution we discuss the results of two recent projects in this area: Cited Loci and Linked Books. The former focused on the domain of classics, using journal articles in JSTOR as a corpus; the latter considered the historiography on Venice and a novel corpus of journals and monographs. Both projects attempted to mine citations of all kinds — abbreviated and not, to all types of sources, including primary sources — and considered a wide time span (19th to 21st century). We first discuss the current state of research in citation mining of humanities publications. We then present the various steps involved into this process, from corpus selection to data publication, discussing the peculiarities of the humanities. The approaches taken by the two projects are compared, allowing us to highlight disciplinary differences and commonalities, as well as shared challenges between historiography and classics on this respect. The resulting picture portrays humanities citation mining as a field with a great, yet mostly untapped potential, and a few still open challenges. The potential lies in using citations as a means to interconnect digitized collections at a large scale, by making explicit the linking function of bibliographic citations. As for the open challenges, a key issue is the existing need for an integrated metadata infrastructure and an appropriate legal framework to facilitate citation mining in the humanities.

Introduction. Serbian Dental Journal (SDJ) is a major source of formal communication for dentists in this region. The purpose of this bibliometric study was to examine articles published in SDJ in period 2002-2009, in reference to journal productivity and nature of authorships, citation patterns, most frequently cited scientific journals and the role of self-citations. Material and Methods. Bibliographic data, as well as metadata for all articles were taken from the Serbian national citation index SCIndeks. Bibliometric analysis of source articles included the number and type of article, author characteristics and cited literature. For each citation the following data was recorded: author(s), article title, journal title, monographic title, publication type, publication year and language. Results. In this period 193 articles were published and most of them were original research articles. In this period a total of 314 national and international authors cooperated, responsible for 538 authorships. The mean number of authors per article was 2.8. Most cited items in terms of publication type were journal articles (83.5 %), while the most frequently cited journals were just those most relevant in the field of dentistry. Results also indicate that the age of the cited literature is below the norm for medical literature. Conclusion. Obtained numerical indicators do not differ significantly when compared to other scientific and professional journals. However, it can be concluded that it is necessary to increase journal productivity and self-citation rate, as well as citation of current literature, up to five years old. This analysis allows evaluating patterns of scientific communication among dentists in this region, as well as journal's current management strategies in order to define useful future directions for the inclusion into the international system of scientific information exchange.

This article provides a bibliographic review of studies undertaken between 2009–2019 regarding the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) to support the learning of students with disabilities, included in the following databases: Web of Science (WoS,) Scopus, ERIC, SciELO, and Google Scholar. Through a descriptive and quantitative methodology, and using bibliometric maps, the most significant data are presented according to their citation and repercussion index. The results show that ICTs are decisive for student with disabilities but there is evidence of a lack of training by teachers. In this regard, findings show that both the quantity of articles published in the different databases and the citations they receive have a medium-low impact index, as well as a low application of them.

PurposeManagerial finance (MF) started publication in 1975 and celebrated its 45th anniversary in 2019. The purpose of this study is to provide a bibliometric analysis of MF between 1996 and 2019.Design/methodology/approachThis study uses the Scopus database to analyze the most frequent authors in MF along with their affiliated institutions and countries. It also identifies the most often cited MF articles. This study uses bibliometric indicators to analyze productivity and stature of MF. It also uses such tools as bibliographic coupling, keyword analysis and coauthorship analysis to analyze MF. Further, the study provides a temporal analysis of MF publishing across different ownership periods.FindingsMF publishes between 60 and 70 articles each year and its number of citations steadily grows. Although contributors to the journal come from around the globe, they most often are affiliated with the United States, the United Kingdom and Greece. Temporal analysis of journal's themes reveals that it has expanded its scope from accounting research to a much wider array of finance topics. Bibliographic coupling network analysis shows that major themes published in MF involve stock markets, corporate governance, banking, financial decision-making and initial public offerings.Research limitations/implicationsDue to the unavailability of bibliometric data, the analysis excludes an analysis of MF between 1975 and 1995.Originality/valueThis study provides the first overview of the MF's publication and citation trends as well as its thematic structure. It also suggests future directions that the journal might take.

With the rapid development of computer science, use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education has caught much attention across the world although it is still a young field with many under-explored research elements. Through visualizing study with bibliometric evaluation and taxonomy of the literature using both VOSviewer and CiteSpace, this study provided references for readers in terms of cluster mapping on the basis of keywords, bibliographic coupling of countries, cluster mapping on the basis of co-citations, citation counts, bursts, betweenness centrality, and sigma. Researchers could also take the findings of this study into serious consideration when they set about researching effectiveness, efficiency, or usefulness of AI in education. Future research into use of AI in education will most likely need interdisciplinary cooperation between computer science, statistics, education, cognition, and robotics.

The complex comparative analysis of scientific activities of the scientists of the research institutes of Pushchino Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences was accomplished. Their publication activities and citations are evaluated, and information sources used in bibliometric analysis are compared. The bibliometric study focused on the document information flow by Pushchino scientists as a special component of the information environment.The big volume of collected data on the publication activities of RAS Pushchino Research Center enables to define the most productive and most cited authors; to correlate between publication type and citation; to reveal international contacts of the scientists and researchers; to reveal organization funding basic research; to make foundation for mining patterns in the development of research areas in physicochemical biology most significant for the Center. The case study reveals that the Russian Academy of Sciences Pushchino Research Center holds leading positions and has a promising intellectual potential.

To effectively maneuver the field, all stakeholders, particularly academicians and practitioners, must comprehend the current position of the eM theory and practices for dynamic utilization. A systematic bibliometric analysis can serve this issue by providing a holistic view of the publication trend and its trajectory in terms of various themes, including citations and publication metrics. This study analyzes the bibliometric data from 2000 to 2019 to reveal the most productive countries, universities, authors, journals, and prolific publications in electronic marketing. To this end, VOS viewer software was used to visualize the mapping based on co-citation, bibliographic coupling (BC), and co-occurrence (CC). The primary addition of this research is to provide an overview of eM tendencies and paths that may help researchers know the tendencies and future research directions worldwide.

Purpose This paper aims to present a bibliometric overview of the leading trends of the journals in industrial marketing during for 25 years. Thus, the purpose is to carry out an analysis about contributions that industrial marketing or business to business (B2B) marketing discipline has done for scientific investigation, presenting a ranking of the 30 most influential journals and their global evolution by five-year periods from 1992 to 2016. Moreover, this study presents the amount of citations, who quotes who from the top 15 ranking and self-citations. Design/methodology/approach This study analyzes 3,587 documents classified as articles, letters, notes and reviews from Clarivate Analytics’ Web of Science for the period 1992- 2016, by bibliometric indicators such as H-index, total citations (TC), total papers (TP), TC/TP. Furthermore, this paper develops a graphical visualization of the bibliographic material by using the visualization of similarities viewer software for constructing and visualizing bibliometric networks in leading journals, publications and keywords with bibliographic coupling and co-citation analysis. Findings Industrial Marketing Management is the leader of the ranking, representing 34 per cent of the total manuscripts considered in this study. The most influential journals were classified by periods of five years and the top five for the period 2012-2016 were in ascending order: Industrial Marketing Management, Journal of Business & Industrial Marketing, Journal of Business-to-Business Marketing, Journal of Business Research and Journal of Marketing. Therefore, in this last period, the considered specialized journals of industrial marketing have increased the quantity (TP) and quality (better H-index) of marketing contributions. The main node on the keywords was of “business-to-business marketing.” The most frequent keywords were “industrial marketing,” “trust,” “business-to-business,” “B2B,” “relationship marketing” and finally “electronic commerce”. Practical implications The information presented in this paper is useful to academics, publishers, academic institutions and other interested groups in industrial marketing because it makes available a global and current picture of this discipline that could be used to make decisions about publishing strategies and journal position. Originality/value This study aims to analyze the progress of industrial marketing discipline, reviewing the contribution of several scientific journals for 25 years. In fact, to the authors’ knowledge, this is the first quantitative study focused on the only purpose of ranking the most influential journals and keywords analysis using bibliometric techniques and networks theories.

Purpose The European Journal of Marketing was created in 1967. In 2017, the journal celebrates its 50th anniversary. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to present a bibliometric overview of the leading trends of the journal during this period. Design/methodology/approach This work uses the Scopus database to analyse the most productive authors, institutions and countries, as well as the most cited papers and the citing articles. The investigation uses bibliometric indicators to represent the bibliographic data, including the total number of publications and citations between 1967 and 2017. Additionally, the article also develops a graphical visualization of the bibliographic material by using the visualization of similarities viewer software to map journals, keywords and institutions with bibliographic coupling and co-citation analysis. Findings British authors and institutions are the most productive in the journal, although Australians’ are growing significantly the number of papers published. Continental European institutions are also increasing the number of publications, but they are still far from reaching the British contribution so far. In the mid-term, however, these zone’s authors and institutions, especially those from big European countries like France, Germany, Italy and Spain, should reach a closer performance to British ones; more as less long, historic, but more recent periods of analysis are considered. Practical implications This article is useful for any reader of this journal to understand questions such as papers’ European Journal of Marketing-related scientific productivity in terms of, for instance, contributors/authors, institutions and countries, or the main sources used to back them. Originality/value This is the first comprehensive article offering a general overview of the leading trends and researchers of the journal over its history.

This scientometric study examines the overall research trends, publication and citation structures, authorship and collaboration patterns, bibliographic coupling, and productivity patterns in the field of social support in education. Bibliometric data consisting of 545 documents was retrieved from the Scopus database during a period of 43 years (1977–2020) on 1 January 2021. Data analysis was performed using various scientometric software including MS Excel, VOS Viewer, Biblioshiny, CiteSpace and ScientoPy. The results of the study revealed that the first publication on this topic appeared in 1977, however, the major increase was observed during 2017–2020, whereas the maximum number of publications (N = 57) in a single year was published in the year 2020. Similarly, the highest number of citations (n = 1002) were observed in the year 1995 with an average of 334 citations per document. The most productive countries were the United States (N = 194), the United Kingdom (N = 56), and Australia (N = 50 publications). Results further indicated that more than 50.7% of the research in the social support area was done in medicine. Overall, the findings of the study reveal that most of the research in the aforementioned field originated from the developed countries which can be related to the developments in the medical field. The study indicates the importance of social support in the educational context due to an increased trend of inclusion and diversity in the education field. This research is the first bibliometric study in the field of social support in education.

Objective: Cleft lip and palate (CLP) is the most common human cranial and maxillofacial birth defect. The aim of this bibliometric analysis was to provide an overview of the development of CLP-related research. Method: Cleft lip and palate-related studies published from 2000 to 2017 were retrieved from the Science Citation Index Expanded core database. Publication date, journal, authors, first authors, keywords, and citations were extracted and quantitatively analyzed using Bibliographic Item Co-Occurrence Matrix Builder software. The word matrix and co-occurrence matrix were established, and the co-citation analysis, keyword clustering, and social network analysis (SNA) of highly cited papers were completed. Results: A total of 9040 articles were retrieved from the 18 years of publications that were searched. The number of documents steadily increased over the period of interest, with a slight decrease in 2016 and 2017. This article separately examined the top most cited papers and high-frequency keywords from 3 time periods: 2000 to 2005, 2006 to 2011, and 2011 to 2017. The strategy coordinates of citation reflect TGF-β3, MSX1 gene, technique for cleft lip repair, TTF2, P63, IRF6 gene, FGF signaling, PVRL1, TGFBR2, and BMP4 gene as areas of research interest in the field. Moreover, the SNA of keywords highlighted new research topics: meta-analysis, cone beam computed tomography, tooth agenesis, case–control study, association study, micrognathia, DiGeorge syndrome, NSCL/P, UCLP, GWAS, MTHFR, and CLPTM1L. Conclusion: We conducted bibliometric research of CLP across an 18-year span. The results help to define an overall command of the latest topics in CLP and provide insight for launching new projects.

Specifically, performance analysis is conducted to analyse the journal's publication and citation patterns, bibliographic coupling and author keyword co-occurrence analysis are conducted to identify major themes, and co-authorship analysis is conducted to analyse author collaborations.FindingsResults indicate JSBED has grown considerably since its inception, both in terms publication and citations. JSBED's most prevalent themes include management and growth of small firms, entrepreneurship education, strategy in small firms, business development, technology in small firms, business competencies in small firms, internationalization in small firms, role of social capital, entrepreneurial orientation and entrepreneurship in under-represented and minority populations.Originality/valueThis is the first comprehensive bibliometric analysis of JSBED in the journal's history. Accordingly, it presents a novel and heretofore disparate understanding of the key themes and dialogues emerging from an established journal with a growing reputation for scholarly and practitioner impact.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to review and analyze the modularity literature to identify the established and emerging perspectives. Design/methodology/approach A systematic literature search and review was conducted through the use of bibliometrics and network analysis. The analysis identified structure within the literature, which revealed how the research area evolved between 1990 and 2015. Based on this search, the paper establishes the basis for analyzing the structure of modularity literature. Findings Factors were identified within the literature, demonstrating how it has evolved from a primary focus on the modularity of products to a broader view of the applicability of modularity. Within the last decade, numerous research areas have emerged within the broader area of modularity. Through core-periphery analysis, eight emerging sub-research areas are identified, of which one is the study of modularity in the context of services. Research limitations/implications Although bibliographic methods are limited as they are based on common citations within the field, they enable systematic analysis and the identification of structure within an emergent field of research. Such analysis has implications by for a growing and inter-disciplinary field like modularity by providing overview and suggesting future directions. Originality/value This paper contributes by conducting a systematic review based on the citation structure within modularity and identifies the established and emerging areas of research on modularity.

Russian scientific organizations rating system introduction at the state level makes the use of scientometric indicators necessary. This article is devoted to the problems of analysis and improving the scientific activities effectiveness of the organization. The aim of this work is to present the bibliometric analysis results of the research activities of the Fiber Optics Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (FORC RAS). The assessment of the contribution of the FORC RAS to the development of fiber optics as a scientific field is given. The main scientometric indicators were studied: publication activity, the total number of scientific papers citations and normalized citation, the number of the most highly cited articles, Hirsch indices. The comparison of bibliometric indicators of the FORC RAS with other Russian scientific organizations working in the fiber optics field was carried out. The performed analysis is relevant both to characterize the FORC RAS activities and to choose the library activity direction. The methodological approach is based on the application of mathematical, bibliographic and bibliometric research methods. The analysis was carried out using the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI), scientometric databases Web of Science and Scopus, as well as the InCites analytical tool. The relationship between meeting the needs for scientific information of scientists and increasing the efficiency and success of research activities of a scientific organization is shown. The main source of information at the present stage is the access of research organizations to the scientific electronic resources of leading world publishers. In this work, the authors conclude that new forms of library work, consisting in creating your own information resource “Fiber Optics Information System”, which contains both an electronic library of publications in this subject area, and complete information about the work of employees, are very promising.

Background and objectives: The aim of this paper is to analyse the scientific research on multiple sclerosis using a bibliographic analysis of articles published during the period 2003–2012. Methods: The items under study were obtained from the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCI-E) database, which was accessed through the Web of Science (WOS) platform. All records with the term ‘multiple sclerosis’ in the title, plus all articles published in the journals Multiple Sclerosis and Multiple Sclerosis Journal, were analysed. Results: A total of 9778 articles, with 160,966 citations, were retrieved on multiple sclerosis, and the majority of the articles were published in Multiple Sclerosis Journal ( n = 1511). The articles were published in journals belonging to 135 different subject areas, with the greatest number of papers falling under the category of clinical neurology. The countries that published the largest numbers of articles were the United States (US) ( n = 2786), Italy ( n = 1263), the United Kingdom ( n = 1147) and Germany ( n = 1018). International collaborations produced 20.4% of the papers. Conclusions: We emphasise the progressive growth of publications worldwide, the publication of articles in a wide variety of journals covering numerous subject areas, and the research leadership of Western countries, most notably European countries, the US and Canada.

This study provides a retrospective overview of the IJLM articles between 1990 and 2019.Design/methodology/approachThe authors applied bibliometrics to study and present a retrospective summary of the publication trends, citations, pattern of authorship, productivity, popularity depicting influence, and the impact of the IJLM, its contributors, their affiliations, and discusses the conceptual layout of IJLM's prolific themes.FindingsWith 23 yearly articles, IJLM contributed 689 specialized research papers on Supply Chain Management (SCM) by 2019. Authorship grew by 42 new contributors adding up to 1,256 unique IJLM authors by 2019. Each of its lead contributors associated with 1.55 other authors to contribute an article in the journal among which 93% are cited at least once. Survey-based research dominated in last 30 years. The h-index of the journal is 73 while its g-index suggests that 133 IJLM articles were cited at least 17,689 times in Scopus. IJLM authors affiliated to the Cranfield University and the US contributed the highest count of articles. Bibliographic coupling analysis groups IJLM articles into eight bibliographic clusters while network analysis exposes the thematic layout of IJLM articles.Research limitations/implicationsThe literature selection is confined to the Scopus database starting from 1990, a year before the inception of the IJLM, thereby limiting its scope.Originality/valueThis study is the first retrospective bibliometric analysis of the IJLM, which is useful for aspiring contributors.

Purpose New product development (NPD) is a noteworthy field that has attracted the attention of scholars for its relevance for firm success. Based on bibliometric indicators and spatial distance network analysis, the authors outline the general structure overview of NPD research through the last 40 years of scientific production; identify and categorize key articles, authors, journals, institutions, and countries related to NPD research; identify and map the research subareas that have mostly contributed to the construction of NPD intellectual structure. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach The work uses the Web of Science Core Collection and the visualization of similarities viewer software. The analysis searches for all the documents connected to NPD available in the database. The graphical visualization maps the bibliographic data in terms of bibliographic coupling and co-citation. Findings The general NPD citation pattern evidences a construction of knowledge and learning, as evidenced in different subjects, such as biology or physics. Relevant contributions and contributors are highlighted as journals, articles, researchers, countries and institutions in overall NPD research and in its constituent subfields. Five subareas related to the NPD field based on journals and authors network are identified: marketing; operations and production; strategy; industrial engineering and operations; and management. Originality/value This paper contributes to the NPD literature by offering a global perspective on the field by using bibliometric data graphical networks, providing insights about the influence of individual actors and its contributions to build bridges between the different subfields of research in NPD.

Purpose This paper aims to map information literacy literature in social sciences and humanities published during the period of 2001-2012. Design/methodology/approach The data for the study are obtained from Scopus, accessible at www.scopus.com. Study used the Transformative Activity Index (TAI) and relative citation impact (RCI) to know the impact of most productive countries and prolific institutions. The SCImago Journal and Country Rank accessible at www.scimagojr.com/ was used to determine the SCImago Journal Rank and source normalized impact per paper. Findings The study found that 1990 documents originating from 79 countries were published in this study area. These papers are published in 160 journals with an average ∼12.51 papers per journal. These papers have been cited 10,025 times with ∼5.0. average citations per publication. Study also found that information literacy literature is published in 16 languages and the majority of the papers are in English, 1,879 (94.4 per cent). The highest growth of publications (106.7 per cent) was found in 2005. The USA contributed the highest number, 1,035 (52 per cent) papers. Moreover, of the 15 most productive countries, three recorded TAIs >100, and 12 countries recorded TAIs <100. In all, 160 institutions worldwide have contributed in information literacy research. Study also found that maximum literature published on the subject by a single author is 828 (41.6 per cent). Universidad de Granada, Granada, Spain has produced the highest number of papers (24, or 1.2 per cent) and received 61 (0.6 per cent) citations, while University of Strathclyde has the highest RCI (∼2.7) for its publications. Pintos, María from Universidad de Granada has published the maximum number of papers (18) that have been cited 78 times. Social implications The study endeavors to showcase information literacy research outcomes in social sciences and humanities. It involves quantitative analysis of the literature in this domain using bibliographic elements such as keywords, authors, affiliation, publication and citations. A total of 8,134 bibliographic data have collected from the Scopus database. VOSviewer software are used for analysis. In the bibliometric analysis, various extracted metadata include journals and affiliations, citations, keyword distribution, many cited papers, and the most influential authors and journals. This study shows the development status and trends in educational technology. On the other hand, this study can be used as a reference for research and application of bibliometric analysis.

This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the paper published by John Aitchison in the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society. Series B (Methodological) in 1982. Having recently reached the milestone of 35 years since its publication, this pioneering paper was the first to illustrate the use of the methodology "Compositional Data Analysis" or "CoDA". By October 2019, this paper had received over 780 citations, making it the most widely cited and influential article among those using said methodology. The bibliometric approach used in this study encompasses a wide range of techniques, including a specific analysis of the main authors and institutions to have cited Aitchison' paper. The VOSviewer software was also used for the purpose of developing network maps for said publication. Specifically, the techniques used were co-citations and bibliographic coupling. The results clearly show the significant impact the paper has had on scientific research, having been cited by authors and institutions that publish all around the world.

Nowadays, the importance of bibliographic databases (DBs) has increased enormously, as they are the main providers of publication metadata and bibliometric indicators universally used both for research assessment practices and for performing daily tasks. Because the reliability of these tasks firstly depends on the data source, all users of the DBs should be able to choose the most suitable one. Web of Science (WoS) and Scopus are the two main bibliographic DBs. The comprehensive evaluation of the DBs’ coverage is practically impossible without extensive bibliometric analyses or literature reviews, but most DBs users do not have bibliometric competence and/or are not willing to invest additional time for such evaluations. Apart from that, the convenience of the DB’s interface, performance, provided impact indicators and additional tools may also influence the users’ choice. The main goal of this work is to provide all of the potential users with an all-inclusive description of the two main bibliographic DBs by gathering the findings that are presented in the most recent literature and information provided by the owners of the DBs at one place. This overview should aid all stakeholders employing publication and citation data in selecting the most suitable DB.

Purpose This paper aims to develop a meaningful single-source reference for Islamic economics and finance scholars concerning zakat intellectual structure published in journals indexed by the Scopus database. Design/methodology/approach The bibliometric method is used to describe and analyze the evolution of publication structure and its various co-relations such as co-citation, co-authorship and bibliographical coupling. Findings The authors discuss the influential and conceptual aspects of the published literature on zakat. An interesting finding is that few papers have received more than 50 citations. The analysis revealed that the Journal of Islamic Accounting and Business Research is the most cited source. Nevertheless, the list of the eight most cited papers reflects that research in this field is still dearth. Further, the authors find that zakat is discussed within the context of religion, its institutional framework, its role to eradicate poverty and distribution management of zakat. The authors also identify and present 14 research directions that will further stimulate scholarly work in the zakat field. Research limitations/implications The study confines on English papers and reviews published in journals indexed by the Scopus database only; hence, the study is representative of the moderate and high-quality papers published in this area of knowledge. Practical implications Researchers envision that this bibliometric study will complement meta-analysis and qualitative structured literature reviews as a method of reviewing and evaluating the scientific literature of this study area; thus, this may help researchers for futuristic research directions. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this paper is the first to tackle the zakat area from a bibliometric aspect. The authors believe that this will help scholars and researchers to stand on firm bases regarding the scientific development of this area of study.

The application of artificial intelligence (AI) to health has increased, including to COVID-19. This study aimed to provide a clear overview of COVID-19-related AI publication trends using longitudinal bibliometric analysis. A systematic literature search was conducted on the Web of Science for English language peer-reviewed articles related to AI application to COVID-19. A search strategy was developed to collect relevant articles and extracted bibliographic information (e.g., country, research area, sources, and author). VOSviewer (Leiden University) and Bibliometrix (R package) were used to visualize the co-occurrence networks of authors, sources, countries, institutions, global collaborations, citations, co-citations, and keywords. We included 729 research articles on the application of AI to COVID-19 published between 2020 and 2021. PLOS One (33/729, 4.52%), Chaos Solution Fractals (29/729, 3.97%), and Journal of Medical Internet Research (29/729, 3.97%) were the most common journals publishing these articles. The Republic of China (190/729, 26.06%), the USA (173/729, 23.73%), and India (92/729, 12.62%) were the most prolific countries of origin. The Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan University, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences were the most productive institutions. This is the first study to show a comprehensive picture of the global efforts to address COVID-19 using AI. The findings of this study also provide insights and research directions for academic researchers, policymakers, and healthcare practitioners who wish to collaborate in these domains in the future.

Purpose The Journal of Consumer Marketing (JCM) has ceaselessly strived toward presenting updated insights on consumer behavior in the marketplace. Blending both theory and practice, it features rigorous consumer-centric research, which addresses pressing managerial concerns. Recently, the JCM completed 35 years of publishing. This study aims to track its evolution from 1984 to 2019. Design/methodology/approach The application of sophisticated bibliometric techniques offers a deeper insight into the evolving trends of the journal, its core authors and their affiliations. This paper explores the thematic trends for JCM’s articles using principal component analysis (PCA) and through bibliographic couple, the authors expose JCM’s knowledge structure. Findings The JCM published 1,422 articles by 2019 contributed by 2,247 unique authors. At 34.56 average citations to its articles cited, the academic popularity of the journal reached 41,989 citations in Scopus. Research featured in the JCM has explored approximately 2,225 unique themes. PCA under Varimax rotation constructed three thematic factors for the most popular JCM themes. Simultaneously, bibliographic coupling analysis identified nine clusters of the JCM’s articles. Research limitations/implications The study is based on the bibliometric records obtained from Scopus and would be subject to the limitations of the database, apart from being limited by the word length of this paper. Originality/value The study conducts the first retrospective analysis of the JCM, which may be useful for global readers, including its editorial board.

Purpose The remarkable concept of entrepreneurial orientation (EO) has attracted scholars’ attention for its relevance to a firm’s performance. Based on bibliometric and distance-based visualization of similarities (VOS) analysis, the purpose of this paper is to outline a broad-spectrum perspective of the structure of research in EO across more than 20 years of publications, identifying the most prominent journals, authors and articles in this field. Design/methodology/approach The paper uses the Web of Science Core Collection and the VOS viewer software. The analysis searches for all the documents connected to EO available in the database from 1976 to 2017. The graphical visualization maps the bibliographic data using both bibliographic coupling and co-citation data. Findings Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice Journal, Journal of Business Venturing and Family Business Review are the most relevant journals in the field. Among the many important authors in the EO literature, key contributors are Lumpkin, Payne, Short, Covin, Dess and Wiklund. Three different streams of research are linked to the EO concept; strategy and entrepreneurship, family business and miscellaneous work in psychometrics, methods, marketing and knowledge/capability-based approaches to organizations. Originality/value This paper contributes to EO research by providing a global perspective on the concept’s investigation, using bibliometric data and graphical networks.

Objective. With the development of exosomes studies increased around the whole world. Our present study was aimed to investigate the global status and trends in exosomes field. Methods. Publications related to exosomes studies from 1994 to 2017 were retrieved from the Web of Science database. The data source was studied and indexed by using bibliometric methodology. For visualized study, VOS viewer software was used to conduct bibliographic coupling analysis, coauthorship analysis, cocitation analysis, and cooccurrence analysis and to analyze the publication trend in exosomes research. Results. A total of 4960 publications were included. The relative research interests and number of publications were increasing per year globally. The USA made the highest contributions to the global research with the most citations, the highest H-index, and the most total link strength, while Sweden had the highest average citation per item. The journal PLOS ONE had the highest publication number. The Natl Canc Ctr was the most contributive institutions. Studies could be divided into three clusters: mechanism study, in vivo study, and in vitro study. Conclusions. The efforts should be put into mechanism studies, predicted to be the next hot spots in exosomes studies.

Ethnic identity and acculturation is a multidisciplinary research field. It is not easy for researchers to gain a panoramic view of the knowledge structure in this field. The bibliometric of knowledge mapping provides researchers with a scientific quantitative research method of statistics, description, and prediction of academic status and development trends. The purpose of this study is to help researchers understand the critical knowledge, evolution trend, and research frontier of the current research. Using bibliometrics software Citespace and Bicomb, this study analyzed 1557 bibliographic data in the Web of Science database and found that: 1)the research field development has gone through three stages, and we knew some representative critical scholars and key literature; 2) The literature knowledge mapping co-citation and the co-occurrence of keywords showed the research hot spots; 3) The results of burst detection and central node analysis reveal the research frontier and development trend. The globalization of the world economy has led to the rapid expansion of research objects from immigrants in the United States to the whole world. Meanwhile, there are still many disputes about theoretical models, constructs, and structural dimensions in the research field, which are the directions that future researchers need to study further.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to bibliometrically analyze the gerontology-related research articles for a comprehensive understanding of the gerontology literature. Design/methodology/approach This study employed the approach of visual analytics on 32 journals with a total of 99,204 articles published after 2000 to identify the main subfields, keywords, and growth trend. The investigated journals are either open access online or listed in the Social Sciences Citation Index. In addition, the 200 most frequently cited papers were analyzed through bibliographic coupling, co-word, and co-citation analysis. Findings The selected most cited papers were mostly published before 2007, and psychiatry and psychology were the top research subfields. Dementia, older adult, and Alzheimer’s disease were the three most frequently occurring keywords, both in Author Keywords and KeyWords Plus. While coupling analysis yielded 12 research groups, co-word analysis classified the most frequently used 20 Author Keywords into two categories. Four research clusters were identified by the co-citation analysis. Originality/value This research provides a comprehensive view of the gerontology research as well as an understanding of the subfields and their interrelations. It also provides government departments with directions for formulating and executing policies affecting older people not only in setting academic and professional priorities but also in understanding the key topics related to older people.

Background Digital health has become an advancing phenomenon in the health care systems of modern societies. Over the past two decades, various digital health options, technologies, and innovations have been introduced; many of them are still being investigated and evaluated by researchers all around the globe. However, the actual trends and visibility of peer-reviewed publications using “digital health” as a keyword to reflect the topic, published by major relevant journals, still remain to be quantified. Objective This study aimed to conduct a bibliographic-bibliometric analysis on articles published in JMIR Publications journals that used “digital health” as a keyword. We evaluated the trends, topics, and citations of these research publications to identify the important share and contribution of JMIR Publications journals in publishing articles on digital health. Methods All JMIR Publications journals were searched to find articles in English, published between January 2000 and August 2019, in which the authors focused on, utilized, or discussed digital health in their study and used “digital health” as a keyword. In addition, a bibliographic-bibliometric analysis was conducted using the freely available Profiles Research Networking Software by the Harvard Clinical and Translational Science Center. Results Out of 1797 articles having “digital health” as a keyword, published mostly between 2016 and 2019, 277 articles (32.3%) were published by JMIR Publications journals, mainly in the Journal of Medical Internet Research. The most frequently used keyword for the topic was “mHealth.” The average number of times an article had been cited, including self-citations, was above 2.8. Conclusions The reflection of “digital health” as a keyword in JMIR Publications journals has increased noticeably over the past few years. To maintain this momentum, more regular bibliographic and bibliometric analyses will be needed. This would encourage authors to consider publishing their articles in relevant, high-visibility journals and help these journals expand their supportive publication policies and become more inclusive of digital health.

AbstractSince 2012, there has been growing interest in bitcoin scientific research from different fields, including computer science and engineering, economics, business and finance, law and regulatory. The purpose of this paper is to evaluate bitcoin literature based on the structures and networks of science, as a first step in the research of this new phenomenon. Analysing the growing scientific literature on bitcoin published between 2012 and 2019, we provided useful insights on academic research in this field regarding publication year, type and category, authors, journals and citations. The source of the 887 documents which support the study was Web of Science Core Collection. Using VOSviewer software we have designed bibliometric maps based on text and bibliographic data. Our study provides a knowledge area map that identifies and evaluates the links between authors and countries distribution, the conceptual structure of the field, the structure and connections of most cited papers and journals. Resuming our findings, we note a concentration of the interest on some keywords (bitcoin, cryptocurrency, blockchain) and on some influential authors (with more than 100 citations per article). As a pure expression of digital economy, the research on bitcoin as an economic concept counts only 33.5% from the total contributions in the field.

Laboratory safety has become a priority for the reduction of occupational health risks among public health workers in developed countries. Analysing this scientific domain’s evolution and creation is essential. This review discusses the bibliometric data of scholarly research performed in laboratory safety in seven decades (1949 to 2020). The review uses the Scopus database and a wide variety of bibliometric metrics, that include publications, citations, and publishing patterns. A graphical visualisation of bibliographic details using the VOSviewer software is also presented. Results show that the number of studies covering this subject has fluctuated with the highest number of publications was 47 in 2016. Often, by reviewing publications and research areas, it can be construed that laboratory safety research is diverse. The bibliometric review conducted offers a rigorous and thorough view of laboratory safety research that may be beneficial to occupational safety and health practitioners and researchers keen in the pursuit of enhancing or discovering new knowledge in this field.

The study aims to analyze the published papers of the journal titled “Indian Journal of Nuclear Medicine” using various bibliometric parameters for the period from 2014 to 2018. The total number of documents was 513 downloaded from the Elsevier’s Scopus bibliographic database. The analysis covers mainly annual growth of publication, citations, type of document, authorship pattern, the average number of references, top ten prolific authors/institutions, and keywords frequency, etc. The results reveal that an increasing trend has been found in the annual production of publications during the five years study period. The most productive year is 2017 with 114 (22.22%) and there is 4.93% of the average growth of publications identified. The highest citations is been received in the year 2014 with 195 (36.25%) and the majority of the researchers preferred document form has been articles with 400 (77.97%). The publications h-index value varies from 3-4 and the study also explains that “All India Institute of Medical Science (AIMS)” identified as the most productive institution with 79 (15.40%). Majority of the publications are 388 (75.63%) contributed by Indian authors followed by Turkey with 32 (6.24).

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to visualize the structure of SCImago Journal & Country Rank (SJR) coverage of the extensive citation network of Scopus journals, examining this bibliometric portal through an alternative approach, applying clustering and visualization techniques to a combination of citation-based links. Design/methodology/approach Three SJR journal-journal networks containing direct citation, co-citation and bibliographic coupling links are built. The three networks were then combined into a new one by summing up their values, which were later normalized through geo-normalization measure. Finally, the VOS clustering algorithm was executed and the journal clusters obtained were labeled using original SJR category tags and significant words from journal titles. Findings The resultant scientogram displays the SJR structure through a set of communities equivalent to SJR categories that represent the subject contents of the journals they cover. A higher level of aggregation by areas provides a broad view of the SJR structure, facilitating its analysis and visualization at the same time. Originality/value This is the first study using Persson’s combination of most popular citation-based links (direct citation, co-citation and bibliographic coupling) in order to develop a scientogram based on Scopus journals from SJR. The integration of the three measures along with performance of the VOS community detection algorithm gave a balanced set of clusters. The resulting scientogram is useful for assessing and validating previous classifications as well as for information retrieval and domain analysis.

This study offers a bibliometric overview of the publication and citation structure of RMS from its inception in 2007 until 2020 in terms of topics, authors, institutions, and countries, thereby offering a comprehensive overview of the history of the journal so far. All the data for the study are from the Web of Science Core Collection database. To complement this analysis, VOSviewer software provides graphical analysis. PurposeThis paper examines the leading trends for the journal Employee Relations from 1979 to 2018 upon its completion of 40 years of publication. Through conducting a bibliometric analysis, the article presents the journal's publication and citation structure, prominent themes, significant author keywords and leading articles, authors, institutions and countries since its formation.Design/methodology/approachThe article focuses on the journal's evolution and subsequent growth patterns during this period. Using the Scopus database, the leading trends in authorship, institutions, countries as well as cited documents along with the articles citing it were analysed to provide an analytic overview of the journal over the period of 1979–2018. The paper presents a graphical visualization of the bibliographic data with bibliographic coupling and co-citation analysis using the visualization tools of similarity viewer software as well.FindingsThe results indicate that the journal is on a progressive trend both in terms of productivity as well as the level of influence in the areas for which it is indexed. The journal receives the maximum influence from the UK, including its most productive authors and institutions. The journal has published research on prominent topics in human resource management, employee relations and the field of industrial relations. It has also published 25 special issues on recent trends in the domain of Human Resource (HR).Originality/valueThis article offers the first comprehensive evaluation of the intellectual structure and research contributions of the journal over its lifespan. The findings of the article are useful for researchers and HR practitioners.
