Full textThe present dissertation pursues two main goals: on the one hand, to make a contribution to the inventory/recension of the Papiers Granvelle and to provide researchers with a critical edition of a selection of mostly unpublished letters; on the other hand, to study the social dynamics and political and cultural implications of the body of correspondence of Antoine Perrenot de Granvelle, Habsburg Minister, between Charles V’s Italy and king Francis Henry II’s court. The documents corpus in question spans over the period from May 1549 and February 1552, with a special cluster in the year 1551, a crucial period in Charles V’s reign. The documents studied are preserved in the collection of the Municipal Library of Besançon. The first part of the corpus studied is made up of letters in French belonging to the oldest collection of the library, the Collection Granvelle: it consists of twenty-one letters, partly published in the nineteenth century, sent by Antoine Perrenot to Simon Renard during his diplomatic mission to the French court on behalf of the emperor. The letters in Italian, most of which are yet unpublished, are drawn from the Trumbull Manuscripts collection, acquired by the library at an auction in England in 1992. They amount to twenty-four documents exchanged between Granvelle, then at the court, and various Italian speaking correspondents resident in Milan, Correggio, Mantua and Nancy. The dissertation is divided into two volumes. The first part of the first volume provides an analysis of the documents on the basis of the historical data that can be drawn from them. On the foreign policy front, we present the activity of informers operating at Granvelle’s service, regularly sending him news concerning war preparations against the emperors and on the feudatories’ loyalties and treasons. The second part of the second volume is divided into three chapters and provides an analysis of the letters from the point of the code which is employed in them. The second volume contains a critical edition of the documents. After presenting a general overview of the Papiers Granvelle, of the circumstances under which they were collected and subsequently disseminated throughout a number of European archives, as well as of past publications through the centuries, the focus turns to the two groups of letters selected – French and Italian – and to the Besançon library collections in which they are preserved; we provide a physical description of the documents and their scripts along with a study of the state of the language they represent

Full textThe development of public libraries answers a concern for the diffusion of reading. Such a mission of public reading adds further to the conservation of literary works. As cultural equipment, libraries promote some literary values. Their acquisition policies, the librarians advices, lead towards the valorization of some novelistic work and documentaries. Such characteristics induce to analyses the frequenting of libraries as the one of other cultural equipment (museums, theatres, classical music concerts, etc. ). The proximity of young people with the cultural universe of libraries i. E with the choices and values they defend, create the conditions of their entry to these cultural equipment. In the first part one thus shows that family and juvenile cultural resources rise the probability of joining a library. In the second part, the study of the reasons for the renewal of joining leads to qualifying the analysis in terms of cultural resources. Youngsters from the upper social classes leave libraries more than those from middle or lower social classes. There is a limit beyond which the accumulation of cultural resources works against the keeping of library membership. The limits of the cultural resources explicative process leads to studying the frequenting of libraries according to other hypothesis

Full textThe cultural sector is known for its economic fragility. Thus, being the first sacrificed because of the budgetary constraint, the libraries are regularly face financial problems with which they must adapt. Librairies have therefore to introduce changes, to adopt new approaches and methods of management. Decision makers have many alternative choices and methods of management. They can either drawback and try to face the budgetary changes by internal rehandlings or they can decide to tariff the services to ensure of the financial re-entries. They can also prefer to seek financial and other kinds of assistance from outside ; to share certain services and resources with other organisations and thus to cooperate ; or to entrust in subcontracting certain tasks to a public or private independent entity. Our investigation into the French libraries of the average cities (of 20 000 to 100 000 inhabitants) shows that all of these administrative choices are implemented. The reasons are multiple and vary from one library to another. But the decisions seldom depend on managerial reasoning. Managerial tools and actions still remain ambiguous concepts for the professionals. For a number of them, there remains an inadequacy between culture and economy. Consequently, the way of managing their establishment relies more on intuition, bias, than on a true economic rationalisation. On the basis of this report, this work concludes on the proposal of the construction of a decision-making aid tool which would allow the decision makers to consider the real opportunity of the choices they have in the field of library management

Full textAt the dawn of the renaissance, a new technique, the art of printing, made rapid progress in europe. Printing appeared in lyons in 1473, three yearts later than in paris. In spain, it began in segovia in 1472. Conditions in spain and lyons in the second half of the 16th and more specially in the 17th century were the reason why lyons was interested in publishing works by spanish authors, works of great quality. This study sheds light on the frequent links between lyons and sapin, with regard to the world of editions. As a matter of fact, an extensive portion of the editions of 16th and 17th century books was made in lyons, not only in spanish, but also in italien, and most of all, in latin and in franch. Also by studying the works of the part-dieu library in lyons, of the authors, subjects and editions, one comes to the conclusion that during the 16th and 17th centuries there was an important spanish cultural contribution to france, by means of editions from lyons, in subjects as widely varying as literature, philosophy, humanism, religion, politics, medicine, and pharmacy. This study proves that the french read this important spanish production, that they liked it and were influenced by it. Spanish cutlure thus had a real influence in france.

Full textGilles de Chin follows Le Livre des Amours du Chastellain de Coucy et de la Dame de Fayel in the manuscript Godefroy 50 of the Bibliothèque municipale of Lille. Created in the lillois' scriptorium of the burgundian lover of books Jean Wavrin, illustrated by his miniaturist "le maître de Wavrin", the work was listed int he inventory set after the dead of Philippe le Bon (1467). In the introduction (tome 1), the author presents this manuscriptt of Gilles de Chin, then this of the Bibliothèque Royale of Bruxelles n° 10237, its minut, and finally the late copy of versified text of the XIIIe century (Arsenal n°3140) source of the prosaic text. The she analyses how is forged the translation in prose : separation of the textual matter, suppressions, adds and developpements and she enters upon the important question of the purpose of the translation : flatter the great duke of Occident and the Hainaut's nobility through their like for the chivalrous values of leaving off medieval period. Follows a stylistic study and a grammatical study : graphies, phonetic, morphology, syntax, the picardisms vouching his geographic origin, the appendixes : cartography, grammatical table, comparative table of the proverbs, interventions of author. . . Brings precious indications. The second tome is reserved at the text, presented with descriptive foot notes, followed by variants of the Brussels' manuscript. A comparative index combines the proper names of the prose with those of the poem allowing to ascertain the actualisation of the narrative. A detailed glossary picked up all the words o the text (except stop words). It points out locutions and specific expressions of the language of epoch

Full textThis thesis is founded on the corpus of french “grands motets” which are part of the collection of the Lyon public library, and tries to explain the question of musical practice in Lyon in the 18th century. The ninety-nine manuscripts and engraved sources conserved in the collection are scores and material which come mostly from the ancient “académie des beaux-arts”, also known as Concert. The first part of the thesis presents the context of Grand motet performances in Lyon, namely the Concert, which was active from 1713 to 1773, the short-lived “académie des Jacobins”, the yearly ceremony of the vow for salvation of the king Louis XV, and also public festivities and spiritual concerts. The corpus of motets conserved in Lyon is the subject of a rigorous analysis: the second part is dedicated to the catalogue of the Concert, the musical support (music papers, watermarks and musical handwritings) and to musical elements which appeared in the sources. The third part presents Lyon’s repertory of the motet genre. Half of the corpus is made up of Lalande’s works; most of the composers are from the Court or the capital, but there are musicians from other French provinces (Pétouille, Valette de Montigny, …) and also from Lyon (Estienne, Bergiron du Fort-Michon, Belouard…). The specific nature of the treatment of the motet in Lyon is brought to the fore by a comparison of the sources, while local particularities appear, like the composition by “fragments”. This study shows that if Lyonnais music belonged to its time, it nevertheless developed its own characteristics
