Abstract:
Telebasis rojinegra sp. nov. was recorded from ponds at La Selva Biological Station and three other sites in the Caribbean lowlands of Costa Rica. The new species appears closely related to T. boomsmae Garrison, 1994 recorded from Mexico, Belize and Costa Rica, T. collopistes Calvert, 1902 ranging from Mexico to Honduras, and T. garrisoni Bick & Bick, 1995 from South America, but differs in having straighter and more elongate paraprocts and a half black pattern on the rear of the head. The female mesostigmal plates are also distinct from the above species. Telebasis rojinegra was active on the water primarily during afternoon hours.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The aim of this study is to solve taxonomic problems pertaining to Spio filicornis (O.F. Müller, 1776). The original description by O. F. Müller was very brief and type material was not deposited. Based on the literature the confusion about the identity of the species has been tremendous; e.g., it was only recently realized that at least two different species from the North and Baltic Seas could be identified as S. filicornis (Bick et al. 2010). The present study is based on material collected by the authors in 2009 at the type locality in Iluilârssuk, near Paamiut, SW Greenland. Spio filicornis is redescribed in detail and illustrated comprehensively. A neotype has been designated and deposited in the collection of Rostock University. Species formerly referred to as S. cf. filicornis from the North and Baltic Seas (Bick et al. 2010) are formally described as two new species, Spio arndti sp. nov., and S. symphyta sp. nov. The morphological diagnostic characters within Spio are discussed. Information on three molecular markers (16S rDNA, 18S rDNA, cytochrome c oxidase subunit I) is also provided. The genetic divergence between the three Spio species corroborates the taxonomic discrimination.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Dominant mutations at two loci, BicaudalC (BicC) and BicaudalD (BicD), cause heterozygous females to produce double-abdomen embryos. These mutations cause the production of embryos with a range of defects extending from the anterior end of the differentiated embryo. The same array of defective embryos is caused by mutations at either locus and is similar to that produced by the original mutation at bicaudal(bic). The array of defective embryos suggests that these mutations cause the loss of positional values from the anterior end of the embryo, associated with a duplication of the posterior end if too few positional values remain. BicaudalD mutations appear to be antimorphic, gain-of-function mutations, whereas BicaudalC mutations are likely to be hypomorphic or amorphic mutations. Mutations at all these loci (bic, BicC and BicD) act as mutual enhancers of each other, and a number of other maternal-effect mutations also act to either enhance or suppress the expression of these dominant bicaudal mutations.

Abstract:
This paper investigated the maximum inflation threshold levels beyond which financial development declines in the South-Eastern Asian emerging markets using static panel threshold regression framework proposed by Bick (2010) with data ranging from 1994 to 2014. The negative impact of inflation on financial development is a settled matter in both theoretical and empirical literature. However, this study was prompted by recent literature (Boyd et al., 2001; Abbey, 2012; Kim and Lin, 2010) which argued that the relationship between inflation and financial development is not linear and is characterised by inflation thresholds. Moreover, no previous study that the author is aware of used the approach suggested by Bick (2010) to determine inflation threshold levels and financial development. Among previous inflation-finance studies, the current study is the first one according to the author’s best knowledge to use banking sector, stock market and bond sector development variables as previous studies were narrow focused in their definition of financial development. The study observed that lower levels of inflation is good for financial development whilst higher levels of inflation slows down the rate at which banking sector, stock and bond markets develop. These results agree with the theory underpinning inflation-financial development nexus. South-Eastern Asian emerging economies are therefore urged to implement macroeconomic policies that ensure inflation rates are kept at lower levels that do not stifle financial development.

Abstract:
- Contemporary clinical psychology offers rough tools for theoretical understanding and practical intervening on promoting transformation from tormented or indifferent brotherly relationships to satisfying ones. It is a common, wrongly held belief that rivalry among brothers undergoes spontaneous remission and that it fades in the course of time. The method of infant observation, as formulated by Esther Bick, allows to tackle the parents' responsibility in increasing or in solving the rivalry among brothers: it may therefore provide useful advices relevant to clinical practice.

Abstract:
Bioorthogonal click-reactions represent ideal means for labeling biomolecules selectively and specifically with suitable small synthetic dyes. Genetic code expansion (GCE) technology enables efficient site-selective installation of bioorthogonal handles onto proteins of interest (POIs). Incorporation of bioorthogonalized non-canonical amino acids is a minimally perturbing means of enabling the study of proteins in their native environment. The growing demand for the multiple modification of POIs has triggered the quest for developing orthogonal bioorthogonal reactions that allow simultaneous modification of biomolecules. The recently reported bioorthogonal [4 + 1] cycloaddition reaction of bulky tetrazines and sterically demanding isonitriles has prompted us to develop a non-canonical amino acid (ncAA) bearing a suitable isonitrile function. Herein we disclose the synthesis and genetic incorporation of this ncAA together with studies aiming at assessing the mutual orthogonality between its reaction with bulky tetrazines and the inverse electron demand Diels–Alder (IEDDA) reaction of bicyclononyne (BCN) and tetrazine. Results showed that the new ncAA, bulky-isonitrile-carbamate-lysine (BICK) is efficiently and specifically incorporated into proteins by genetic code expansion, and despite the slow [4 + 1] cycloaddition, enables the labeling of outer membrane receptors such as insulin receptor (IR) with a membrane-impermeable dye. Furthermore, double labeling of protein structures in live and fixed mammalian cells was achieved using the mutually orthogonal bioorthogonal IEDDA and [4 + 1] cycloaddition reaction pair, by introducing BICK through GCE and BCN through a HaloTag technique.

Abstract:
Abstract The aim of this study is to estimate the effects of trade and foreign direct investment (FDI) on domestic investment and test whether these effects depend on the level of income and financial development of countries. For this, the present study modifies the dynamic panel models with threshold effect proposed by Kremer, Bick and Nautz (2013) allowing a greater number of endogenous regressors and uses a data base composed of 95 countries in the period from 1985 to 2013. The results suggest that trade positively affects domestic investment. However, the effect of FDI on domestic investment is negative in both income regimes and in low financial development countries.
