The literature in Psychology indicates the need for a national instrument that takes into consideration individual personality inside the workplace. Given the psychometric quality of this test within its validation context, the purpose of this study was to validate the Orpheus Business Personality Inventory to the Brazilian population. This test has been developed specially to the organizational environment and can be used under several purposes, such as selection, promotion and development of employees. The test is composed of 190 items divided through 16 scales: five major scales, seven minor scales and four audit scales. The major scales, based on the Big Five personality model, are Fellowship, Authority, Conformity, Emotion and Detail. The minor scale are a measure of integrity and were based on the traits stated on the Giotto test, they are: Proficiency, Work orientation, Patience, Fair-Mindedness, Loyalty, Disclosure and Initiative. Finally, the scales created to audit invalid responses are Dissimulation, Ambivalence, Despondency and Inattention. The data was collected through Concerto platform, developed by the University of Cambridge. In this study, participated 938 individuals for the testing phase and 98 for the retest phase. For the content validity study, five experts participated. For the construct valitidy study, a Full Information Factor Analysis was performed under the Multidimensional Item Response Theory underlying assumptions. Cronbach’s alpha and the Omega coefficient were calculated to evaluate the internal consistency for all scales. Misfit measurement were also investigated, according to the Rasch Model. The results indicated that a group of items presented low factor loadings, although cross-cultural validity can be inferred from the results for the content validity and reliability of the test. The Brazilian version of OBPI will not only fill a gap in the area of Psychological Evaluation, but will also assist the 15 development of an instrument that is multicultural in its essence. It is expected that further studies will support the results presented here with additional construct validity evidences.

Abstract:
Effective leadership, ethical leadership, and leadership emergence have been extensively researched, but there remains a lack of research on the relationship between the big 5 personality traits and authentic leadership. This quantitative study was based on the empirical principles of the big 5 model and guided by the big 5 theory. In addition, this research asked if there was a relationship between the big 5 model and authentic leadership, and which combination of the 5 personality traits best predict authentic leadership. Fifty-five adult participants, employed in various corporations, were recruited from a convenience sample. They rated their leaders by completing an Authentic Leadership Questionnaire, the NEO Five-Factor Inventory-3, and a demographic questionnaire. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression analyses and the results showed that the big 5 personality model explained 46.9% of the variance (F (5, 49) = 8.65, p < .001. Conscientiousness positively (β = 0.40, p = .003) correlated with authentic leadership while neuroticism was inversely (β = -0.04, p = .046) correlated. These 2 traits best predicted authentic leadership and provided the strongest correlation. Extraversion (β = -.04, p = .739) and openness-to-experience (β = .25, p = .080) were non-significant traits. In the Pearson Correlation analysis, agreeableness had a weak inverse correlation with authentic leadership, (r (53) = -0.30, p = .027), and contributed 8.9% of the variance in predicting authentic leadership. Conscientious leaders with low level of neuroticism, who practice authentic leadership, will bring about positive social change by reducing unethical practices, improving communication with employers, employees, and consumers, and improving employee morale.

The Big Five theory has been the basis for much of the personality assessment work conducted recently. Currently this is the theory that provides a better understanding of personality. The Big Five inventory- 10 (BFI-10) is a scale composed of 10 items that assesses five dimensions of personality, with two items for each factor: Extroversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism and Openness. The purpose of this study due to the need for a brief instrument based on Big Five Theory for use in research in Brazil. Were interviewed 1158 people, being the majority female (58%) aged between 14 and 35 years. In the original form of the instrument was added one item in each factor to select later the 10 items with better psychometric qualities. There was evidence of construct validity and the rates of internal consistence were acceptable. At the end of the analysis it was identified that Neuroticism was the factor that demonstrated greater legitimacy, whereas Agreeableness was the less representative. Associations were observed among factors and the sociodemographic variables: gender, age and scholarity. It has been concluded that the adapted BFI-10 can be used when the time available is very limited. Considering the limitations of a so brief scale, the results should be interpreted cautiously. Further studies should be made to complement the psychometric characteristics of the scale

Abstract:
This study aims to explain the connection between individuals between The Big Five's personality theory, motivation and health to Maslach Burnout Inventory's theory. The study is based on a deductive approach and is based on a quantitative method. Through a survey that was sent to 172 training instructors, the data was obtained. Furthermore, the data was processed in the statistical and analysis program Jamovi where a descriptive analysis, correlation analysis and factor analysis were made. The result shows that there is a certain type of personality who chooses to work as a training instructor who is conscientious, open, friendly with a low score on neuroticism, which indicates stability and security. In the result, it can also be seen that training instructors are driven by internal motivation factors to a greater extent compared to the external ones. Last, the results show that training instructors are not exhausted to any great extent. The thesis should provide a deeper understanding of the specific personality of exercise instructors and whether there are clear motivational factors that make individuals perform better. The individual's personality is investigated as to whether fatigue exists. The study will increase the understanding of how a certain professional group of performs and finds drivers based on their unique personality. Since the study is focused on personality, motivation, performance and well-being among training instructors, it would be interesting to examine other professional groups to see if training instructors differ in comparison to others, on personality traits or motivation. It would also be interesting to continue this study to see if differences exist via geographical demarcation in the country.

Abstract:
Background: When a company is employing new salespeople, much is expected from these. The company is hoping that the new candidate is going to perform well and contribute to the fullest. One of the big questions that the organization has to face is how to evaluate and sift through sales candidates in order to find the best suited one. Previous studies have shown to some extent that a person's personality can be connected to how well they are performing in different occupations. One commonly used framework for assessing personality is the Five Factor Model (FFM) which is able to account for different traits without overlapping. One way to assess a person's personality traits is by the use of the big five inventory questionnaire (BFI). Purpose: To describe if there is a correlation between personality traits and sales performance in the Swedish car dealership market.Method: The research was a quantitative study of two Swedish car dealerships, where 60 out of 72 employees at Hedin Bil & Holmgrens Bil answered the BFI questionnaire. The response rate was 83%. The survey was sent out by mail to the two companies whose responsible managers divided their sales staff in three different groups (good performing, average performing and bad performing) according to the company's organizational goals. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that one of the hypotheses was supported and four rejected by the salespeople participating. The only hypothesis that was supported was that Neuroticism would correlate negatively with sales performance.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Advertisements have been in digital media for most of its lifetime. They have, however, been increasing with the years and more people are finding the number of advertisements to be excessive. Online users have therefore taken to avoiding advertisements by installing ad-blockers. There have been multiple studies on how ad-blockers work and why people use them. There have also been studies on which demographics mostly use ad-blockers. Younger men are generally seen as the typical ad-block user. However, none have seen if certain personality traits are more common amongst ad-block users. The purpose of this research is therefore to investigate if there are any differences in personality traits amongst ad-block users and non-ad-block users. The Big Five Inventory with 10-questions (BFI-10) personality test is used in an online survey to get an understanding of participants ad-block usage and personality traits. The personality traits that stood out were among females ad-block users with the personality traits of extraversion and neuroticism. The purpose of the study is to indicate a possible way for advertisers to prohibit their message to fall on uninterest and ad-avoiding recipients, and to provide some insights regarding ad-block user segmentation among Swedish ad-block users.

Abstract   Title: The nonprofit leader   Level: Final assignment for Bachelor Degrees in Business Administration   Author: Felicia Jingmyr Steiner and Rebecca Gullersbo   Supervisor: Jonas Kågström   Date: May 2020   Aim: The purpose is to highlight the connection between Big Five´s different personality traits, the dimension according the Maslach Burnout Inventory and the underlying motivational factors within Swedish sport associations and their non-profit leaders.   Method: The study uses a quantitive method with a deductive approach. The method involved a survey in which 380 leaders in Swedish sports associations were assigned the questionnaire. The empirical data was then processed in the analysis and statistics program Jamovi through a descriptive-, correlation- and factor analysis.   Result and analysis: The result of the study showed that leaders with high levels of neuroticism have the biggest risk of burnout. A big part of the study group had high values of conscientiousness and extraversion built in to perform their leadership and involvement tasks well with high efficiency. The result showed that the leaders have a number of underlying motivational factors and not only one. The biggest motivating factor in the leaders who participated in this study was to help other people and the least motivated factor was the monetary reward.   Contribution of the thesis: The study makes the most knowledge and an increased understanding of the interaction between different personality traits with other factors such as burnout and underlying motivational factors. The survey´s selection of leaders within Swedish sport associations provides a practical contribution in the form of knowledge about the leaders themselves and how they should work with them to keep the involvement going.   Suggestions for further research: Upon completion of the study, further research of the sports associations´ leaders and their assignments can a connection between personality traits with other factors such as burnout and underlying motivational factors be found. An interesting angle of this type of research would be relevant is to see how the leader´s actual mission affects its sense of purpose. Further research in sport leaders and their non-profit involvement could do more in-depth by looking at their team/athletes´ demographic variables and strengths to see if the motivational factors are being eradicated because of these.   Keywords: “The Big Five”, “Maslach Burnout Inventory”, burnout, personality trait, volunteer, voluntary work, “Volunteer Function Inventory”, coach, sport

Abstract:
The contemporary theory of Validity emphasizes the construct validity of psychological inventories and the need to make updates about existing arguments of validity that underlie their interpretation. For this reason the enterprise editor launched a new validation campaign, as part of this CIFRE thesis, for the self-assessment questionnaire of its (Q-PE). The Q-PE investigates the self-image in a professional context by 70 forced choice items (FCI), each consisting of two response proposals, and measures 10 bipolar dimensions related to the Big Five or The Five-factor model of personality. Thus, our two main objectives were to study 1) the representativeness and the relevance of the content of the current version of Q-PE under the Big Five theoretical model, 2) the validity of matching the proposals in items, for example, we investigate if the item proposals are indicators of one or more same dimensions or if they refer to different dimensions. The results of the three studies in this thesis show that the Q-PE item proposals, with little exception, measure personality traits in reference to the Big Five dimensions of personality as well as to the dimensions of Realization (Achievement), Rigor and Combativeness. Regarding matching between items, 65% of 53 FCI that could be studied are considered as suitable and further analysis are awaited for the 17 FCI which answer options were not administered to the same participants. This research provides therefore some more validity arguments in favor of Q-PE, brings some information about the dimensions that underlie self-image description and its evaluation in a professional context and releases ways to continue this validation process

Abstract:
Previous research has shown that parents' attachment style and personality interact and influence each other. But what do the relationships between attachment style, self-esteem, well-being and personality look like? In this essay, five hypotheses were tested to see how these correlates with each other. This was done by a survey that measured the five basic dimensions (agreeableness, extraversion, neuroticism, openness and conscientiousness), subjective well-being, self-esteem and attachment style based on five aspects; two insecure of distancing nature and two of an anxious / closeness-seeking nature, the secure attachment style is characterized by a secure relationship with oneself and others. The survey was based on Big Five Inventory (BFI), Questionnaire on well-being, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) and the Attachment Style Questionnaire (ASQ). The reliability of the survey was good. A total of 853 participants responded to the survey between the ages of 20-74 (M = 43.3, SD = 10.15), where 67.3% were women. Correlation analyzes and multiple regression analyzes were performed. The hypotheses were confirmed, attachment style can be predicted by personality traits, well-being and self-esteem. The results showed that the secure attachment is predicted by and has a positive correlation with agreeableness, extraversion, self-esteem and well-being as well as a negative correlation to neuroticism, which the other attachment styles did not have.

The working life gets more and more boundaryless, the line between private and working life is blurred out and at the same time the sick leave for stress increases. Can personality traits predict perceived stress and well-being? It could be applied to the workplace and contribute to a more healthy life style. Perceived stress scale is the most used questionnaire for stress, the well-being form shows excellent reliability and good validity. Within personality theories, the big five Inventory model (neuroticism, extraversion, openness, kindness and conscientiousness) represents the traits of personality. According to previous research, neuroticism been predicted as a stress factor. Four hypotheses were tested and the purpose of the study was to predict how different personality traits can affect well-being and the tendency to experience stress. The study involved 1545 participants between 18-71 years old in Sweden. Correlation analyzes and multiple regression analyzes were performed. The question is supported in the study, personality traits can predict perceived stress and well-being. There was a clear correlation between the variables stress and all personality dimensions.

Abstract:
The Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) has a negative impact on the patients lives. Get to know their personality traits can help on the treatment success, by making possible to plan most appropriate interventions. Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is considered a first line treatment for PTSD. However, treatment response is not universal. One reason may be found in personality characteristics. The present study aims at investigating the association between personality dimensions and traits associated with improvement of patients who underwent CBT. Method - 66 PTSD patients diagnosed according to the DSM-IV-TR criteria were included in the study. The patients included were aged 18 to 60 years old. Instruments - We employed the NEO-PI-R instrument for the evaluation of personality dimensions and the Clinical Global Impressions Scale (CGI) for evaluation of clinical outcome. Procedure - Patients were assessed by Psychiatrists to ensure the diagnosis of PTSD. After accepting to participate of the study, they answered the NEO-PI-R Scale and were assessed by doctors to know the disease severity, using the CGI scale. Participants underwent 13 CBT sessions and were reassessed at the end of treatment. Results - The personality profile showed that 71.2% were high in neuroticism (N) and 75.8 reported low Extraversion. 45.5 were low in conscientiouness and the Agreableness (A) and openess (O) factors presented average scores. The analysis also showed that patients presenting the Conscientiousness (C) personality dimension showed a higher chance of improvement (OR=3.77). Two facets other dimensions (Assertiveness and Varied Actions) were also associated with better clinical outcome. Conclusion - determining predictors of outcome such as a patient\'s personality dimensions may point to the use of therapeutic treatment options with the higher odds of success, without too much therapeutic treatment experimentation. As therapies become briefer, information on personality variables may be particularly useful

Abstract:
The objective of this 6 weeks longitudinal study is to assess the contribution of occupational activity on improvement in psychotherapy, considering the Big Five personality traits of the Big Five in a clientele suffering from personality disorders (PD) followed in a day hospital treatment program. The sample of interest consists of participants with PD and referred to a day hospital program following a crisis episode requiring an emergency visit. Despite the findings in the literature, the results of this research do not demonstrate a statistically significant difference in the improvement in psychotherapy between participants with an occupational activity compared to those without occupational activity. In addition, none of the Big Five model's five personality traits were associated to therapeutic improvement. However, interaction effects were observed between occupational status and personality traits to predict improvement during treatment. First, participants without occupational activity who report a high degree of Openness to the experience improved more in terms of their interpersonal difficulties during follow-up. In addition, a high degree of Consciousness in participants without occupational activity is associated with less improvement in their distress symptoms during the follow-up, while it is associated with a greater improvement in symptoms in participants with an occupational activity. Future studies should replicate the protocol used in this master's thesis with a larger sample, documenting the reasons for consultation as well as the reasons for discontinuing treatment.

This research aims to justify if the test result based on Big Five Model can effectively predict the job performance of the would-be programmers and to look into the relationship between their personalities and work performance, which thereby corresponds with the recruit strategy of the case company today and tomorrow. By means of this investigation, the case company or any can integrate the right person with some specific personality into the right position, making every single employee not only play his own part but also do his level best. In due course, the very right recruit strategy helps create the highest profits for the companies. During this research, the researcher tries to give tests to programmers in the case company. For one thing, the test based on Big Five Model was adapted by some consultant firm in December 2009 and has been widely applied to staff-hunting by the personnel in Taiwanese companies. In each of 125 effective questionnaires, the researcher includes 137 questions according to Big Five Model. For another, concerning the research method, the researcher exerts three main analyses respectively to discuss the properties which carry with the test result. Firstly, by means of Frequency Analysis, the researcher arranges and analyzes the samples systematically to define the certain structure of the human resource in the case company. Secondly, in the manner of Correlation Analysis, the researcher seeks the potential relationship between the personality and the job performance. Thirdly, by employing Regression Analysis, the researcher clarifies the effectiveness of the “criterion” ---“from one’s personality to his job performance”. In the last analysis, the researcher may reach the conclusions as follows: 1. The correlation between the personality and job performance of programmers is that the two traits---Caution and Openness are significantly related to their job performance. 2. The result based on the Single-Variable Analysis shows that a programmer with Openness tends to perform better at work and so does a programmer with Caution. 3. The recommendation according to Regression Analysis is that the person with Cautions more eligible for a programmer. To sum up, the researcher recommends that the case company give priority to recruiting the persons with Caution to be its programmers so that the better job performance from these future employees could be highly expected.

The purpose of this study was to use exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) to examine the psychometric properties of the Big Five Inventory (BFI;John, Donahue, & Kentle, 1991). In the study, participants included 844 high school students, randomly divided into two samples. Sample 1 was for EFA (421 students; 215 males; 206 females) and sample 2 was for CFA (423 students; 182 males; 241 females). Additionally, a sample of 247 participants were used for reliability analysis and a sample of 266 participants were applied for convergent validity analysis. In EFA, the results showed that BFI-34 was represented by five factors: Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Neuroticism and Openness to Experience after removing 10 mis-fitting items. In CFA, the models of all versions of BFI (e.g., BFI-44, BFI-29, BFI-21, BFI-15) were not supported in the validation sample, even adding the error correlations based on modification indices. The best fitted solution was the BFI-29 version with five first-order factors. The BFI-29 was modified from the BFI-34. The score reliability of the BFI-29 was acceptable, with Cronbach’s α ranging from .63 ~ .81 for five factors. The retest reliability was .78~ .87 for five factors. Regarding convergent validity, the BFI-29 and MMI-T were moderately correlated (r= .61 ~ .87). However, the average variance extracted (AVE) for each five factor was below .50. This finding corresponded to two previous studies (i.e., China version BFI-29;Leung, Wong, Chan, & Lam, 2012;German version, BFI-21;Kovaleva, Beierlein, Kemper, & Rammstedt, 2013), but the reasons for low AVE in five factors of personality should be further investigated. Finally, the study provided some implications for school counseling.

This study aims to adapt and validate the Mini IPIP Personality Test and the Big Five Inventory (BFI) in Portuguese adults. The sample is based on the Portuguese active population aged over eighteen years, and is comprised of a heterogeneous group of 231 subjects, 65.4% female and 34.6% male. The age of the subjects lies between 18 and 69 years old. The evaluation protocol was established by the Sociodemographic Questionnaire, Mini IPIP and BFI. The α coefficient of Cronbach for the dimensions of the Mini-IPIP scale present unacceptable values: extroversion, α = 0.52; Kindness, α = 0.48; Conscientiousness, α = 0.56; Neuroticism, α = 0.49; Openness to Experience, α = 0.49. The BFI scale dimensions have reasonable internal consistency values: extroversion α = 0.72; Agreeableness, α = 0.61; Conscientiousness, α = 0.73; Neuroticism, α = 0.76; Openness to Experience, α = 0.79. The results show that there were significant correlations between different scales of the same constructs, indicating construct validity of the dimensions in both instruments. In EFA of Mini-IPIP concluded that the items are not grouped by component, however, the BFI items are grouped almost mostly. Both instruments have temporal stability as measured by test-retest, as show high positive correlations in all dimensions. Regarding to gender, there were no significant differences among the five personality dimensions Mini-IPIP. In turn, it was found that participants aged 46 to 55 years obtained larger levels of extroversion and participants over 46 years reached higher levels of Agreeableness. In BFI it was observed that women have higher levels of Neuroticism and Agreeableness, and men show higher levels of Openness to Experience. The participants aged 46 to 55 years have revealed high levels of Conscientiousness.

Previous research of Big Five measures drew attention to their validity to job performance, but their economic value remained rarely discussed. The present study adopts three utility analysis models, Taylor-Russell model, Naylor-Shine model, and Brogden-Cronbach-Gleser model, to estimate the utility of using Big Five personality inventory as a selection device. The estimation process demonstrates how the utility analysis models could be used to capture the utility information of selection devices such as Big Five personality inventory in order to improve the decision making. The utility of using Big Five personality inventory would be calculated in terms of success ratio, standardized performance score, and dollar value, for the three utility analysis models respectively. These results of utility analysis and their practical implication are discussed.

Abstract:
The psychological benefits of self-compassion, a construct associated with adaptively dealing with emotional suffering from life's problems appear to overlap with those of trait resiliency in terms of theoretical underpinnings and outcome research. This study investigated the relationship between self-compassion, personality, and gender in order to shed light on the construct's relevance to an existing framework of resiliency personality research. One hundred and twenty-three college students completed the Big Five Inventory (BFI) and Self-compassion Scale (SCS). A cluster-analysis of the BFI scores yielded three cluster prototypes consistent with overcontrolled, undercontrolled, and resilient personality prototypes identified in previous studies of children and adult community samples. Analyses revealed resilient individuals reported significantly higher overall Self-compassion (M = 3.08, SD = .25) compared to both overcontrolled (M = 2.85, SD = .20, t = -4.32, p <= .00) and undercontrolled types (M = 2.90, SD = .25, t = 3.53, p <= .00). Interestingly, there were no significant differences between overcontrolled and undercontrolled types or between men and women, on overall Self-compassion. A two by three MANOVA of gender and personality prototype on the SCS revealed a significant interaction on overall Self-compassion score (F = 3.92, p <= .02) and the Common Humanity subscale (F = 3.81, p <= .03). Post hoc analyses were conducted to examine the nature of the gender and personality interactions. The theoretical issues raised by these results are discussed and recommendations are made for utilizing self-compassion in treatment and future research.

Abstract:
Running title: Personality and cyberbullying victimisation
Includes bibliographical references (leaves 104-120)
The aim of this study was to gain insight into the relationship between personality and cyberbullying victimisation using a sample of 107 adult participants. The participants were found using the social media site Facebook in particular and assessed by means of the Big Five Inventory and a cyberbullying measure developed by the researcher. The study also explored the relationship between personality and coping behaviours using the COPE Inventory. The study findings indicate that neuroticism and cyberbullying victimisation are correlated, albeit weakly, with the largest correlation being between neuroticism and online impersonation and harassment. In addition, the study found a weak correlation between openness to experience and online impersonation. Coping and personality were moderately correlated; with neurotic individuals and victims of cyberbullying often resorting to maladaptive coping strategies. These results may suggest that there are other, more significant risk factors in the cyberbullying field that merit further exploration, while the relationships highlighted in the study also require further investigation.

Abstract:
Although work is a central component of the recovery of individuals with a severe mental illness (SMI), studies have shown employment rates ranging from 10 to 20% among that population. Among different services aimed at integrating people with a SMI to the labour market, supported employment programs (SEP) are the most effective with 50 to 60% of their participants getting a competitive employment, without however offering job tenure. Several studies have investigated which factors impact job acquisition and tenure among that population but personality has never been considered, although it has been recognized as an important determinant of functioning. Furthermore, few questionnaires aiming at evaluating personality according to the Five-Factor Model of personality (FFM) have been used with a SMI population and those questionnaires have demonstrated psychometric properties that do not satisfy commonly accepted and recognized criteria. This thesis focuses on the link between personality and work integration of people with a SMI. The first part aims at validating a personality questionnaire according to the FFM in order to achieve the objectives of the second part of the thesis. For this purpose, two samples were recruited: one of 259 university students and one of 141 people with a SMI. Confirmatory factor analyses led to the development of a new 15-item questionnaire (NEO-15) presenting with strong fit indices, internal consistency and convergent validity, which makes it well suited to measure normal personality in time-limited settings. The second part of this thesis presents the results of a study conducted with 82 people with a SMI enrolled in a SEP and aiming at investigating which variables predict job acquisition and tenure, with a special focus on normal and pathological personality variables. Results from logistic regressions and Cox regressions (survival analyses) demonstrated that prior employment, negative symptoms and level of pathological personality were predictive of competitive employment acquisition and delay to such acquisition. Additional series of Cox regressions showed that tenure of a competitive job was only predicted by conscientiousness. Although presenting some limits, restricted sample sizes in particular, our results demonstrate the relevance and the importance of considering normal and pathological personality in studies on work outcomes of people with a SMI. Furthermore, this thesis revealed the suitability of a new personality questionnaire to the SMI population. Future directions regarding the work integration and treatment of people with SMI considering these results are discussed.
