The facies analysis of the syn-rift sequences Bima I Formation in the Gongola Sub-basin of the Northern Benue Trough displayed assemblages of trough crossbedded sandstones facies, planar crossbedded sandstone facies, massive bedded sandstone facies, ripple laminated sandstone facies, parallel bedded sandstone facies and mudstones facies. These arrays of facies form two suites of facies association that consist of the lacustrine-delta complex depicting coarsening upward cycles and fluvial complexes showcasing fining upwards cycle the former accounts for a scenario where the incremental accommod

Bima Sandstone at Wuro-Dole and environs was studied for its level of maturity and source area (provenance). In evaluating its textual maturity and provenance, field mapping was carried out and representative samples were subjected to physico-chemical and mineralogical analyses. The sandstone consists of some primary sedimentary structures:cross-beddings and ripple marks. Strike measurements of these primary structures plotted on current rose diagrams indicated SSE-NNW and NE-SW/NW-SE directions. The Bima Sandstone is averagely made up of medium grained, poorly-sorted, fine skewed and very lep

Field mapping was carried out on Bima sandstone from Dumne and its environs with the aim to understand the geology and determine the paleoenvironment of deposition. The integrated (outcrop study with granulometric and pebble morphometric) studies were used to achieve this aim. Based on outcrop studies, nine (9) lithofacies were identified from the proximal alluvial fan facies to the mid-fan braided river: massive, matrix-supported, gravel-dominated facies (Gmm); matrix-supported gravel (Gmg); clast-supported gravel stratified (Gh); gravel stratified trough cross-bedded sandstone (Gt); trough c

Representative sandstone samples from different formations such as the Bima Group (Lower, Middle and Upper Bima Sandstones), Yolde Formation and Dumbulwa Member of the Pindiga Formation in the study area were classified on the basis of their mineralogical compositions for sandstones. Samples 4, 5, 7, 24, 27, 28, 34, 35, 36, 38, 40 and 41a are classified as arkosic arenites due to the high percentage of feldspars and quartz than rock fragments in majority of the samples, whereas samples 12, 21, 25 are classed as lithic arenites because rock fragments have higher mineral aggregate than feldspar.

Provenance study of Bima group of the Upper Benue Trough around Wuyo village was carried out on fresh representative samples. The petrographic results suggest the sandstones to be arkosic arenites, the average composition of the three rock forming minerals as observed are; 40% quartz, 46% feldspar and 3% rock fragments. The higher percentage of feldspar, the sphericity of the grain sizes which are largely sub-angular to sub-rounded and the poorly sorted nature of the sandstones as well as ZTR index of 60.3% from the heavy minerals analysis suggest immature sediments, they are deposited close t

Primary depositional structures are important parameters that can provide the means of unraveling the processes and process responses in sedimentary depositional settings. This paper is aimed at determining the paleoenvironment of the Upper Bima Member in Fufore and environs using the primary depositional structures. This research was carried out in two phases which involved fieldwork that dealt with logging the outcrops sections and desk work whereby the logged sections and other field data are digitized, remodeled and analyzed using relevant computer programs. Epigenetic fracture-filling baryte mineralization hosted by granite, pegmatite and Bima Sandstone were delineated, sampled and analyzed for rare-earth elements (REEs) and stable sulphur isotope geochemistry. The REEs of the distal (unaltered) rocks indicated normal values (26.15-36.81 ppm) before mineralization was marked by enrichment of light rare-earth elements (LREEs) (27.94 ppm) relative
