We have recently shown that children interpret conditional sentences with binary terms (e.g., male/female) in both the antecedent and the consequent as biconditionals (Barrouillet & Lecas, 1998). We hypothesized that the same effect can be obtained with conditionals that do not contain binary terms provided that they are embedded in a context that restricts to only two the possible values on both the antecedent and the consequent. In the present experiment, we asked 12-year-old children, 15-year-old children, and adults to draw conclusions from conditional syllogisms that involved three ty

We investigate the binary content of the two stellar populations that coexist in the globular cluster NGC 3201. Previous studies of binary stars in globular clusters have reported higher binary fractions in their first populations (P1, having field-like abundances) compared to their second populations (P2, having anomalous abundances). This is interpreted as evidence for the latter forming more centrally concentrated. In contrast to previous studies, our analysis focusses on the cluster centre, where comparable binary fractions between the populations are predicted because of short relaxation

An important goal of empirical demand analysis is choice and welfare prediction on counterfactual budget sets arising from potential policy interventions. Such predictions are more credible when made without arbitrary functional‐form/distributional assumptions, and instead based solely on economic rationality, that is, that choice is consistent with utility maximization by a heterogeneous population. This paper investigates nonparametric economic rationality in the empirically important context of binary choice. We show that under general unobserved heterogeneity, economic rationality is equiv

The longstanding expectation is that Internet services should remove violative content or accounts from their services as quickly as possible, and many laws mandate that result. However, Internet services have a wide range of other options—what I call “remedies”—they can use to redress content or accounts that violate the applicable rules. Abstract A framework is presented that may explain a wide range of stress corrosion behaviour in aqueous environments at high temperatures, using only two hypotheses for the applicable crack growth mechanisms. The framework is mainly relevant to reducing (hydrogenated) environments, but may account for some aspects of SCC in oxidizing ones. Binary Fe-Ni alloys have been used to explore some of these issues, as well as engineering alloys. In the Ni-rich region, SCC propagates by intergranular oxidation; high Cr content, as in Alloy 690, provides protection by forming an external Cr-rich oxide.

Abstract:
This project undertakes a large-scale quantitative and qualitative investigation into the lived experiences of transgender, gender non-conforming and gender non-binary persons in the Indian science ecosystem. Towards this goal, the study uses four key research methods: (a) applications under the Right to Information Act, 2005 to investigate the status of implementation of the legislative, judicial and policy documents that govern the access of transgender, gender non-conforming and gender non-binary persons to the Indian science ecosystem; (b) a policyscape approach to policy analysis to under

Abstract:
Formal Concept Analysis (FCA) can be used to analyze data given in the form of a formal context. In particular, FCA provides efficient algorithms for computing a minimal basis of the implications holding in the context. In this paper, we extend classical FCA by considering data that are represented by relational structures rather than formal contexts, and by replacing atomic attributes by complex formulae defined in some logic. After generalizing some of the FCA theory to this more general form of contexts, we instantiate the general framework with attributes defined in the Description Logic (

Abstract:
Background Gender-diverse patients (GDP) face barriers in healthcare, including discrimination and limited access to preventive care. Nursing curricula often lack GDP health content, leaving students underprepared to provide equitable care. This QI project aimed to improve RN-BSN students' self-efficacy and comfort in caring for GDP by integrating an educational module into their coursework. Methods A literature review revealed the need for increased education on GDP healthcare needs. An evidence-based educational module including a recorded presentation and an interactive case study was devel

Overview of the Project Gender inclusivity and equal employment opportunities are key priorities for the Victorian Government. The Gender Equality Act 2020 (the Act) commenced in March 2021 and laid the foundation to improve workplace gender equality in the Victorian public sector. The legislation requires Victorian public sector entities to explicitly address intersecting forms of inequality and disadvantage. The research project aimed to centre the voices of women with disability to provide evidence-based insights into the enablers, barriers and inclusive practices shaping their career progr

Abstract:
In an era of global challenges, leaders face a landscape characterized by what scholars term "polycrisis1" – a convergence of multiple, interconnected crises that amplify each other'simpacts. While the concept of polycrisis is gaining recognition, our study revealed a significant gap. No substantial body of literature currently addresses leadership in the midst of polycrisis. This absence underscores the novelty and importance of our study. To bridge this gap, we turned to the concepts of "grand challenges" and "wicked problems," which share many characteristics with polycrisis and have more e
