Two methods of designing a point classifier are discussed in this paper, one is a binary decision tree classifier based on the Fisher's linear discriminant function as a decision rule at each nonterminal node, and the other is a contextual classifier which gives each pixel the highest probability label given some substantially sized context including the pixel. Spectroscopic and photometric observations of six late-type contact and near-contact binaries are presented, and the results of the analyses discussed. Absolute dimensions have been deduced for three systems: YY Ceti. CX Aquarii and RV Corvi. YY Ceti, which has an orbital period of 0.79 days, is found to be composed of a normal main-sequence star of spectral type A8 and an evolved G-type star which completely fills its Roche lobe. Starspots are not well understood for contact binary star systems. The following properties of spots were systematically investigated: temperature, radius, colatitude, and longitude. Spots were modeled on an AE Phe like contact binary system. The spots were changed in a systematic manner. The light curve phases of primary minimum and primary maximum were affected by these parameter changes in a systematic manner, as well as the secondary minimum and maximum. In this investigation of near-contact binary stars, the author fit a synthetic light, computer generated, curve model to observations by adjusting various parameters of two near-contact binary pairs, CN Andromeda and TZ Draconis. By fitting asymmetries in the light curves using spotting parameters, the spotting activity for both stars can be determined. An efficient three-stage pipelined architecture of the CABAC decoder for residual data is proposed. The proposed design contains three major elements. First part is the context modeling engine which stores and selects the corresponding probabilities used in a decoding unit. Second part is the arithmetic decoders which contain the regular arithmetic decoder and the bypass arithmetic decoder.
