It has been modelled for collision avoidance on large robots or vehicles whose computational power are abundant. Bio-inspired swarming behaviors provide an effective decentralized way of coordinating robot teams. However, as robot swarms increase in size, bandwidth and time constraints limit the number of agents a human can communicate with and control. To facilitate scalable human interaction with large robot swarms it is desirable to monitor and influence the collective behavior of the entire swarm through limited interactions with a small subset of agents. However, it is also desirable to avoid situations where a small number of agent failures can adversely affect the collective behavior of the swarm.

Abstract:
Nucleotide sequence alignment is a method used to identify regions of similarity between organisms at the genomic level. In this thesis we focus on the alignment of millions of short sequences produced by Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) technologies against a reference database. Particularly, we direct our attention toward the analysis of metagenomic and metatranscriptomic data, that is the DNA and RNA directly extracted for an environment. Two major challenges were confronted in our developed algorithms. First, all NGS technologies today are susceptible to sequencing errors in the form of nu

The present study focuses on active cervical movements in healthy women of different ages. The aim of the study is to perform a three-dimensional qualitative and quantitative analysis of active head-cervical RoM and of the overall movement execution in healthy women to assess the relationship with age. Age-related variations in active cervical RoM are still partially unknown: some investigations demonstrated that age has no effect whatsoever on the primary movements40 while other studies found an inverse proportionality between age and cervical RoM6,13,17. Abstract:
This research presents the DFrame, a modular and extensible distributed framework that simplifies and thus encourages the use of parallel processing, and that is especially targeted at the analysis and visualization of multi-dimensional bio-image datasets in high content screening applications. These applications typically apply pipelines of complex and time consuming algorithms to multiple bio-image dataset stream and it is highly desirable to use parallel resources to exploit the inherent concurrency, in order to achieve results in much reduced time scales. The DFrame allows pluggable extens

The issue of traditional user authentication methods, such as username/passwords, when accessing information systems, the Internet, and Web-based applications still pose significant vulnerabilities. The problem of user authentication including physical and logical access appears to have limited, if any, coverage in research from the perspective of biometric as ‘something the user knows.’ Previous methods of establishing ones’ identity by using a password, or presenting a token or identification (ID) card are vulnerable to circumvention by misplacement or unauthorized sharing. Reading all published articles is a tedious and time-consuming process. Therefore a way to summarise the information in the articles is needed. A solution is the derivation of an ontology representing the knowledge enclosed in the set of articles and allowing to browse through them.

In this thesis we present the tool Ontolo, which allows to build an initial ontology of a domain by i

Abstract:
Trajectory planning is important in many applications involving unmanned aerial vehicles, underwater vehicles, spacecraft, and industrial manipulators. It is still a challenging task to rapidly find an optimal trajectory while taking into account dynamic and environmental constraints. In this dissertation, a unified, varying manifold based optimal trajectory planning method inspired by several predator-prey relationships is investigated to tackle this challenging problem. Biological species, such as hoverflies, ants, and bats, have developed many efficient hunting strategies. It is hypothesiz
