Climate changes have a huge impact on the ecosystems biodiversity changing the relationship among species, which react individually. In Romania, hazelnut (Corylus genus) is a vulnerable species due to its high genetical vulnerability, which require special attention. Thus, recently has been recorded an increased demand for turkish hazelnut for its ecological and economical importance. It has a rapid growth rate, large root system and high tolerance to biotic and abiotic constrainers (pest and diseases, low temperatures, etc.). Moreover it has pharmaceutical benefits, while his fruits has a hig

Amphibians are an important component of terrestrial and aquatic freshwater communities worldwide. Especially to the Northern coastal zone of Brazil, the knowledge about amphibian communities is very scarce. We have studied amphibian assemblages along the coastal strip zone of the state of Piauí for two years, covering a distance of ca. 70 km. It was possible to prepare a list of 21 anurans from 6 families (Microhylidae, Hylidae, Leptodactylidae, Cycloramphidae, Leiuperidae, and Bufonidae). All species are common and widely distributed in Brazilian territory, tinga biome. The results are impor

Current satellite remote sensing methods struggle to detect and map forest degradation, which is a critical issue as it is likely a major and growing source of carbon emissions and biodiveristy loss. TanDEM-X InSAR phase height (hϕ) is a promising variable for measuring forest disturbances, as it is closely related to the mean canopy height, and thus should decrease if canopy trees are removed. However, previous research has focused on relatively flat terrains, despite the fact that much of the world’s remaining tropical forests are found in hilly areas, and this inevitably introduces artifact

These sites have been identified by the Urban Ecology Institute as important green areas through the Natural Cities Program. The purpose of this program is to create a greater body of knowledge of urban green spaces and the greater urban ecosystem of Boston. The role of vertebrate herbivores in affecting plant diversity and coexistence in grasslands is well known. What is less clear is the importance of invertebrate herbivores and how different groups of herbivores might interact to affect plant communities. I will present data from a 16 year study which factorially excluded insects, molluscs and rabbits in an acid grassland in South East England. Rabbits play a keystone role in preventing tree invasion and therefore maintaining the community as a grassland. The invertebrate herbivores are also important but have contrasting effects: a specialist

Abstract:
<p>Community interactions based on various parameters in defined niches have been studied to understand their influence on bacterial life. Yet there currently are no models that can depict how spatial interactions control the complex combinatorics of different microbial communities. Biodiversity influences the ecosystem properties of bacterial communities, but the relationship between bacterial biodiversity and function remains to be understood entirely. Here, the focus is on developing a simple and effective platform to study neighborhood interactions between different species of lactic acid

The tropical Indo-West Pacific (IWP) is the most biologically diverse marine region on earth with a number of competing hypotheses proposed to explain the evolutionary events responsible for this area’s biotic complexity. These hypotheses are based on varying interpretations of species distributions radiating from the Indo-Australian Archipelago (IAA) at the centre of the region. The IAA represents a geologically dynamic area formed by colliding tectonics; mechanisms relating to tectonic activity are therefore commonly considered responsible for the biodiversity here. Biodiversity patterns of butterflies and moths are investigated on the southwestern slope of Mount Cameroon, the only continuous elevational gradient of near-pristine forests in the Afrotropics. Three distinct seasons between 2014 and 2017 are sampled by two standardised methodologies (i.e., bait-trapping and manual catching of selected groups of moths at light). First, the effects of seasonality and forest habitat associations on butterflies and moths are investigated in the lowland rainforest. Then, the impacts of elephant-made natural disturbances on tree, butterfly, and moth diversities at
