Abstract:
Multi drug resistant (MDR) strains of Acinetobacter baumannii have emerged as a major cause of nosocomial infections associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Over the last 20 years a worldwide expansion in Acinetobacter infections has been observed associated with intensive care units (ICUs), long term care facilities and wounded armed forces personnel. The developing resistance patterns seen in Acinetobacter sp suggest that the number of effective antibiotics may shortly be exhausted. Mycoplasmas are the smallest and simplest self-replicating prokaryotes, lacking a cell wall and are bound by a single membrane-the plasma membrane. Moreover, mycoplasmas are consequential and chronic pathogens of humans and animals that rely on adhesion to host tissue for colonisation and infections. In other word biofilm formation is correlated with infections and because of this, the biofilm formation of Mycoplasma species has been investigated and characterised in this project. Bacteria primarily exist in robust, surface-associated communities known as biofilms, ubiquitous in both natural and anthropogenic environments. Mature biofilms resist a wide range of biocidal treatments and pose persistent pathogenic threats. Treatment of adherent biofilm is difficult, costly, and, in medical systems such as catheters, frequently impossible. Adding to the challenge, we have discovered that biofilm can be both impenetrable to vapors and extremely nonwetting, repelling even low surface tension commercial antimicrobials. Syra- och a

Oral Biology
M.S.
ABSTRACT Objectives: Flowable composites are characterized by lower filler loading and a greater proportion of diluent monomers in their formulation. These composites were traditionally created by retaining the same small particle size of the conventional hybrid composites, but reducing the filler content and allowing the increased resin to reduce the viscosity of the mixture However, their various mechanical properties such as flexural strength and wear resistance have been reported to be generally inferior compared to those of the conventional composites. Abstract:
