Background: Shrimp farming is evolving from semi-intensive to hyper-intensive systems with biofloc technology and water recirculation systems. Objective: To evaluate the transcriptional response promoted by biofloc on shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) under a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS). Methods: Quantitative real-time RT-PCR was used to monitor seven key genes related to the immune system in shrimp post-larvae, reared in a RAS with and without biofloc (BF and noBF). In addition, we present for the first time nucleotide sequences of ADP-ribosylation factor 4 (LvArf4) from Litopenaeus va

Eucaryote microbes have an important role in forming bioflocs in the brackishwater aquaculture ponds. Bioflocs become potential live feed for milkfish or crustacea. This study aimed to identify the potential of eukaryotic microbes in the brackishwater aquaculture as the biofloc candidates potential development. This study was done through the water quality assessment and potential indigenous microbes isolation approach. AbstractWhilst aquaponics may be considered in the mid-stage of development, there are a number of allied, novel methods of food production that are aligning alongside aquaponics and also which can be merged with aquaponics to deliver food efficiently and productively. These technologies include algaeponics, aeroponics, aeroaquaponics, maraponics, haloponics, biofloc technology and vertical aquaponics. Although some of these systems have undergone many years of trials and research, in most cases, much more scientific research is required to understand intrinsic processes within the systems, efficiency, design aspects, etc., apart from the capacity, capabilities and benefits of conjoining these systems with aquaponics.

Abstract:
The BioFlow Group at Imperial College London develops and uses computational and experimental techniques to study fluid dynamics in organisms with the aim of advancing healthcare applications. Within this framework our group applies Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to gain a better understanding of the initiation of atherosclerotic disease. Our in-house spectral element solver has been applied to idealised [1–2] and anatomically realistic [3] geometries, including the rabbit aorta and its branches [4].
