Sammanfattning Det finns tre anledningar till att uppsatsen kom att handla om biogas. Göteborg Energi AB som vi samarbetat med under vårt examensår, hade ett behov av att kartlägga hur effektiva deras biogasanläggningar var. Biogasanläggningar, som behandlar fler än en typ av substrat, så kallade samrötningsanläggningar, är relativt unga anläggningar. De första byggdes under tidigt 90-tal och står idag för omkring 28% av Sveriges totala biogasproduktion. Felaktigt inkommande material och det matavfall som tas in som substrat ställer höga krav på anläggningarnas utrustning, med därtill kopplade problem. Den totala biogasproduktionen i Sverige 2009 var 1,4 TWh och 22 % av biogasen producerades i samrötningsanläggningar. Sedan 2005 är det förbjudet att deponera organiskt avfall, vilket har gjort att produktionen från samrötningsanläggningar har ökat de senaste åren. The biogas production in Sweden year 2014 was 1,8 TWh where almost 1 TWh was upgraded to biomethane for use in vehicles. The production of biomethane is mainly located at the biogas plants that have a production over 200-400 Nm3/h. Under år 2008 användes globalt en energimängd motsvarande nästan 144 000 TWh ochav dessa stod fossila bränslen för 81 %. I Sverige uppgick energitillförseln under år2010 till totalt 616 TWh och av detta stod råolja/oljeprodukter för 30,4 %.
