The article identifies the first editions of works by Metropolitan Dimitry of Rostov, published both in his lifetime and immediately after his death and canonization. The author of the article has shown that the Metropolitan’s sermons were not published in his lifetime for a number of reasons. The first publication of Dimitry’s oratorical works was made upon an initiative of a private person – Y. A. Tatishchev (1729–1806), who approached the Most Holy Governing Synod in 1782 with a request to publish these sermons at his own expense. A publication called Collection of Various Instructive Tales

Abstract:
Shainool Jiwa’s The Rise of a Muslim Empire is a two-volume historical work on the legacy of the Fatimid Empire. The first volume surveys the religious and sociopolitical underpinnings of Fatimid rule from its North African establishment in 909 to its transition to Egypt in 969. Jiwa’s second vol- ume focuses on the pinnacle of Fatimid society up until its decline from 969-1171. This review pertains to the first of the two volumes. Working within this phase, Jiwa details the reigns of the first four Imams: ‘Abd Allāh al-Mahdī, Abū’l-Qāsim Muḥammad, Ismāʿīl al-Manṣūr, and al-Muʿizz li- Dīn Allā

Abstract:
A preliminary examination of Rabbi Jacob Gordon’s sermons within their biographical, communal, religious, historical, social, and cultural contexts, offers insight into the challenges Jewish immigrants faced in early twentieth century Toronto—as this Orthodox immigrant rabbi perceived them. In this article I am telling the story of the history of empirical homiletics, in particular the use of the Grounded Theory methodology of doing content analysis of sermons and other documents, such as interviews, to ascertain in a scientific way the contents of documents. This is an exercise in reflexive-biographical exploration of empirical homiletical methodology. I first discussed the analysis of sermons using quantitative methods in my book Communicative preaching and the thesis of Julian Müller. There was a growing urge amongst homileticians to study the contents of sermons. The Heidelbe

Abstract:
Abstract Scholarship on the impact of the English Reformation on the visual culture of the era has ignored the role of the painters who helped produce it. Yet it was the painters with their brushes no less than the preachers with their sermons who articulated the doctrinal and social developments of the era. Taking the example of Suffolk, this study examines the implications of the Reformation era for the painters’ occupation – including arms painters, glass painters, decorative painters and figurative painters – in provincial England. It supports its discussion with a biographical directory o
