Structure, in its many forms, is a central theme in theoretical population ecology. At a mathematical level, it arises as nonuniformities in the topology of nonlinear dynamical systems. I investigate a mechanism wherein a chaotic time series can have episodes of nearly periodic dynamics interspersed with more 'typical' irregular dynamics. This phenomenon frequently appears in biological models, and may explain patterns of alternating biennial and irregular dynamics in measles epidemics. Scinax granulatus, Physalaemus gracilis e Pseudis minuta were the most abundant species in the Serra do Sudeste, while Dendropsophus minutus, D. sanborni and Scinax squalirostris were the most abundant of the Depressão Central. We recorded 15 species of frogs in th

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior
Studies of biodiversity surveys and habitat requirements are essential in landscapes threatened by anthropogenic conversion, such as those that make up the Pampa biome. In the present study we determined the spatial distribution of richness of anurans at the Área de Proteção Ambiental (APA) do Ibirapuitã, the largest protected federal area within the Pampa biome in Brazil. Thus we: (1) describe the composition of anuran community regarding species richness, abundance, constancy of occurrence and reproductive modes; (2) compare the

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior
We studied species richness, abundance and spatial-temporal distribution of tadpole communities in eight ponds in an area of Cerrado in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. We carried out this study during a rainy season (October 2009 to March 2010). We determined the spatial and temporal niche breadth by standardized Levins index, and we used null models to explore the patterns of niche overlap. Additionally, we evaluated the influence of environmental descriptors and spatial distribution of ponds on the studied communities us

Jarid2 is required for the genomic recruitment of the polycomb repressive complex-2 (PRC2) in embryonic stem cells. However, its specific role during late development and adult tissues remains largely uncharacterized. In this first part of my thesis, we show that deletion of Jarid2 in mouse epidermis reduces the proliferation and potentiates the differentiation of postnatal epidermal progenitors, without affecting epidermal development. In neonatal epidermis, Jarid2 deficiency reduces H3K27 trimethylation, a chromatin repressive mark, in epidermal differentiation genes previously shown
