Abstract:
Biophilic design is a new social movement about the expression of the innate human nature connection in the built environment which brings social, environmental and economic benefits. Following the four phases of heuristic inquiry this research investigated the social movement of biophilic design to illuminate and explicate the motivators, drivers and components of the movement in the emergent, coalescent and mainstreaming stages. These contribute towards developing a framework for mainstreaming biophilic design.

Dealing with the issue of buildings showing characteristics of sick building syndrome, could result in occupants suffering negative side effects. Healthy living is a primary need for society. Everyday pollution in society has led to these negative outcomes of physical and psychological well-being of space users. When investigating factors such as natural light, colour, fresh air, visual contact with water and nature or noise pollution, it is found that exposure to such natural elements positively influences human behaviour, health and productivity in a live, work and play environment. Abstract:
Currently, a human spends about 90% of their time indoors, therefore, increasingly spaces are designed to promote comfort and natural light. The lack of a quality indoor space can be the cause of several health problems, such as the inhibition of hormones that affect heart rate, mood and performance. Thus, experts consider the human being a biophilic species, since it is dependent on nature. Besides, the proximity to large windows, natural materials and plants promote your health and well-being. In this sense, this project seeks to answer this problem by developing lighting for a

Abstract:
For most people in North America, undergoing treatments for cancer occurs exclusively in a healthcare setting. All too often, this healthcare setting provides a backdrop privileging the technological requirements of conventional medicine over the well-being of the people who inhabit it. The project investigates how an integrative cancer treatment centre can be designed to be more than a technological backdrop, endeavoring to become an active entity that truly supp

Abstract:
The aim of the thesis is to demonstrate that the critical theories of John Ruskin have a particular interest to us at the end of the 20th century. The basis for this claim is that Ruskin’s mode of thought was essentially ecological. By this I do not mean to suggest that he was simply interested in nature conservation or environmental degradation. Rather, the term “ecological” is used to refer to a much broader paradigm shift. The thesis has three chapters, the 1st of which deals with broad cosmological issues. It traces an ecological pattern of thought in Ruskin’s critical writing, and defines
