Klebsiella oxytoca (K. oxytoca) is a Gram-negative microbe generally associated with community and hospital-acquired infections. Due to its clinical significance, we evaluated the effect of biofield treatment on phenotype and biotype characteristics of K. oxytoca (ATCC 43165). The study was performed into three groups i.e. C (control), T1 (treatment, revived); and T2 (treatment, lyophilized). Subsequently, groups T1 and T2 were received biofield treatment and control group was remained as untreated. Thebla OXY-2a region encoded a β-lactamase nearly identical to OXY-2 (one amino acid residue substituted) and conferred aztreonam and cefuroxime resistance on the K. oxytoca isolates. Overproduction of OXY-2a was caused by a G-to-A substitution of the fifth nucleotide in the −10 consensus sequence ofbla OXY-2a. Thebla OXY-1a was identified in a susceptible strain, and the OXY-1a enzyme differed from OXY-1 by two amino acid residues.

We have identified a 23-gene cluster that encodes the enzymes for utilizing purines as the sole nitrogen source. Growth and complementation tests with insertion mutants, combined with sequence comparisons, reveal functions for the products of these genes. ABSTRACT The Klebsiella pneumoniae fimbrial adhesin, MrkD, mediates adherence to the basolateral surfaces of renal and pulmonary epithelia and to the basement membranes of tissues. Although all isolates possessing the MrkD adhesin mediate the agglutination, in vitro, of erythrocytes treated with tannic acid, the mrkDgene is not conserved within species. The ability of a plasmid-bornemrkD gene product to mediate binding to type V collagen is associated frequently with strains of K. oxytoca and rarely with strains of K. pneumoniae. In K. pneumoniae, the MrkD adhesin is located within a chromosom

ABSTRACT A clinical isolate of Klebsiella oxytoca (Kox 443) was found to have a low-level resistance to broad-spectrum penicillins (MICs of amoxicillin and ticarcillin, 256 and 32 μg/ml, respectively), without substantial potentiation by 2 μg of clavulanic acid per ml (amoxicillin- and ticarcillin-clavulanate, 128 and 8 μg/ml, respectively), while being fully susceptible to cephalosporins and other β-lactam antibiotics. These resistances were carried by a ca. 50-kb conjugative plasmid that encodes a single β-lactamase with a pI of 5.6. Compared to TEM-2, this enzyme exhibited a 3- to 30-fold h

ABSTRACTAn isolate ofKlebsiella oxytocacarrying a novel IMP metallo-β-lactamase was discovered in Madrid, Spain. TheblaIMP-28gene is part of a chromosomally located class I integron. The IMP-28kcat/Kmvalues for ampicillin, ceftazidime, and cefepime and, to a lesser extent, imipenem and meropenem, are clearly lower than those of IMP-1. The His306Gln mutation may induce important modifications of the L3 loop and thus of substrate accessibility and hydrolysis and be the main reason for this behavior.

The emergence of extended-spectrum cephalosporin (ESC)-resistant Gram-negative bacteria is of great concern in both human and veterinary medicine. The aim of this study was to investigate ESC-resistant bacterial isolates from companion animals in South Korea between 2017 and 2019. Isolates with ESC resistance genes, which were identified by PCR, were assessed for genetic relatedness by multi-locus sequence typing (MLST) and pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE). In total, 91 ESC-resistant Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp., Serratia spp., and Enterobacter cloacae isolates harbored the blaTEM

ABSTRACT Plasmid pTKH11, originally obtained by electroporation of aKlebsiella oxytoca plasmid preparation intoEscherichia coli XAC, expressed a high level of an AmpC-like β-lactamase. The enzyme, designated CMY-5, conferred resistance to extended-spectrum β-lactams in E. coli; nevertheless, the phenotype was cryptic in the K. oxytocadonor. Determination of the complete nucleotide sequence of pTKH11 revealed that the 8,193-bp plasmid encoded seven open reading frames, including that for the CMY-5 β-lactamase (bla CMY-5). Thebla CMY-5 product was similar to the plasmidic CMY-2 β-lactamase of K.

Abstract Background Early and accurate treatment of infections due to carbapenem-resistant organisms is facilitated by rapid diagnostics, but rare resistance mechanisms can compromise detection. One year after a Guiana Extended-Spectrum (GES)-5 carbapenemase–positive Klebsiella oxytoca infection was identified by whole-genome sequencing (WGS; later found to be part of a cluster of 3 cases), a cluster of 11 patients with GES-5–positive K. oxytoca was identified over 18 weeks in the same hospital. 72 clinical strains of Klebsiella spp. isolated from samples obtained from humans in Novosibirsk, Russia, were analyzed. Species identification of strains was performed using 16S rRNA and rpoB gene sequences. It was revealed that Klebsiella pneumoniae strains were dominant in the population (57 strains), while the remaining 15 strains were K. grimontii, K. aerogenes, K. oxytoca and K. quasipneumoniae. By molecular serotyping using the wzi gene sequence, K. pneumoniae strains were assigned to twenty-one K-serotypes with a high proportion of virulent K1- and K2-serotypes. It was found that K. pn
