Abstract:

Languages in a country are considered to share common characteristics and possibly similar features. This can be attributed to many factors, but one holds true, language is essential in keeping a community. Its vitality molds a society’s identity. The more active the language is, the more its culture gets the exposure it needs. This notion goes two ways for culture cannot also stand without the usage of a language. In this study, Bisayan and Tausug lexicons were compared using a Samarin list to identify factors of similarities as well as their relationship in terms of their semantic and ontological categories. The list was subjected to a qualitative-descriptive analysis. The result of the study revealed that both Tausug and Bisayan (Cebuano) cultures have come from the same linguistic family. Both belong to the Philippine VISAYAN LANGUAGES. Of all the Visayan cultures, the TAUSUG is a Muslim dominated culture which makes it the reason why people associate Tausug language as part of the Mindanao language. The study showed that of the 200 lexicons used based on a Samarin list, 72 of those are true cognates and 28 are cognates with few differences and changes in the spelling. The findings also indicate that these similarities can be attributed to different factors like tracing language relationship by means of genetics, the environmental changes, the language sounds and language arbitrariness.

Abstract:

The Philippines is the home of 120-187 dialects by different indigenous groups of people. One of them is the Subanen language which is spoken in various areas of northern, western and southern portions of the Zamboanga peninsula. Many Subanen shows linguistic inadequacy in their own mother tongue-the Subanen language. This study aimed to identify the language vitality of the Subanen in Sebasi, Clarin. Specifically, this study seeks to determine the variables of ethnolinguistic vitality which are respondents’ status, demography, and institutional support and to identify their skills in understanding, speaking, reading and writing in Subanen language. Through researcher-made instruments, the study conducted an actual test and an assessment of the ethnolinguistic vitality of the Subanen respondents. An observation checklist was used in assessing the respondents’ linguistic competence of the Subanen language which catered to four language skills-comprehension, speaking, reading and writing. This was followed by series of interviews to determine the variables for ethnolinguistic vitality including status, demography, and institutional support. Using weighted mean and standard deviation, the researchers was able to determine the respondents’ performance in all linguistic skills tested. Results revealed a weak vitality of the Subanen language in the city. The study revealed that intrinsic and extrinsic factors such as language contact, parental apathy, mixed marriages, and tribal discrimination are contributory factors affecting the language vitality. Further, the interviews revealed the major factors negatively affecting the vitality of the Subanen language in the tribal community in Barangay Sebasi. These factors include (1) language contact, specifically between the Subanen language and the Bisayan dialect, (2) mixed marriages between a Subanen and a “Bisaya," (3) apathy of Subanen parents to teach the language to their children, and (4) discrimination against the Subanen tribe. It is recommended that contemporary Subanen should take more decisive steps in revitalizing their first language for cultural preservation and tribal identity.

Abstract This paper finds origins for the three Kra-Dai tones in the segmental endings of Proto-Southern Austronesian, the parent language of Kra-Dai and Malayo-Polynesian. The Kra-Dai A category originates in sonorant endings (vowels, semi-vowels, nasals, liquids) and in Proto-Austronesian *-H2, reconstructed by Tsuchida (1976); the B category in *-R and in *-X, a hitherto not reconstructed ending reflected as -h in Amis and in the Bisayan language Aklanon; the C category, in Proto-Austronesian *-H1, reconstructed by Tsuchida. The tonal outcomes of *-s and *-S are described. Kra-Dai sonorant endings in tone C are argued to come from hypothetical Austronesian prototypes in which a sonorant ending was followed by *-s, a suffix of unknown function. Although the present model does not require Kra-Dai to be a daughter of Proto-Austronesian, the building blocks for Kra-Dai tones are shown to be in place during the Formosan phase of Austronesian phonological history.

Abstract:

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan daya hidup bahasa etnik Bisaya Muslim di Beaufort, Sabah. Sebanyak 205 pelajar menengah atas dari tiga buah sekolah telah dipilih sebagai peserta melalui pensampelan rawak. Pengkaji menggunakan enam set soal selidik daripada model UNESCO. Hasil kajian menunjukkan bilangan penutur mutlak bahasa Bisaya dan transmisi bahasa antara generasi adalah terancam. Bahasa Bisaya dituturkan oleh kebanyakan generasi ibu bapa dan ke atas. Trend dalam domain penggunaan bahasa juga telah berkurangan. Walaupun bahasa Bisaya masih digunakan di rumah, bahasa Melayu yang dominan mula menular ke dalam domain keluarga. Respons terhadap domain dan media baharu masih bertahan manakala bahan untuk pendidikan dan literasi bahasa Bisaya ditafsirkan sebagai wujud dalam bentuk bahan bertulis yang hanya bermanfaat untuk sebahagian ahli masyarakat sahaja. Bahasa Bisaya mungkin ada kepentingan simbolik tetapi bukanlah sebahagian daripada kurikulum sekolah. Kesimpulannya, realiti daya hidup bahasa Bisaya Muslim menggambarkan prasyarat lazim ke arah bahasa terancam seperti tertera dalam model UNESCO meskipun penutur belum beralih ke bahasa lain. Pengkaji menyarankan agar kerangka etnolinguistik revitalisasi bahasa Bisaya di Beaufort, Sabah diimplementasikan sebagai projek perintis bagi program pemuliharaan bahasa.

Abstract:

This research attempted to identify and analyze the Cebuano-Bisaya radio health commercials using Schegloff’s (2007) framework on pre-sequences with the support of Yule’s (1996) speech act theory. Thirty (30) Cebuano-Bisaya radio health commercials were gathered from two selected radio stations. The results revealed that representatives were the most dominant function in speech acts that reflected in pre-sequences specifically with pre-offers and pre-announcements through drama and testimonial categories which are often used in medicinal product commercials. In advertising strategies, Cebuano-Bisaya commercials use Representatives and Expressive as persuasive devices in addressing the advertisers’ intended message to the target audience. Also, Cebuano-Bisaya commercials used Representatives and Expressive as an appeal to suggest an intention for the listener to buy advertised products.Keywords: Cebuano, commercial, health, pre-sequences, radio, speech acts

Abstract:

This study aimed to determine the use of language in the family domain and the intergenerational language transmission among Bisaya ethnic students by gender. Researchers selected 205 participants in form 4, 5, and 6 from 3 secondary schools in Beaufort, Sabah, of which 115 girls and 90 boys. A field survey was conducted using two types of questionnaires adapted from Drummond (2010) and Fishman (1991). Survey data made use of percentage, mean, graded scale, and chi-square statistics. It was found that the choice of language in the family domain from both groups of students was 25% Bisaya language, Malay 75%. The mean 20.01 for language choice in the family domain by the girl group was higher than those of the boy group, 19.98. The level of intergenerational language transmission between parents and children selected by both groups of students was Grade 3, Endangered. About 51.06% from the boy group and 60.9% from the girl group had selected this scale. Grade 3, Endangered is interpreted as the Bisaya language is used by most generations of parents and above. Parents can still speak the language to their children, but their children usually do not respond to Bisaya. The researchers accepted the null hypothesis that there was no significant difference in intergenerational language transmission based on gender. The intergenerational language transmission factor is a major cause of language endangerment. This factor was founded by Fishman (1991) which has been recognized as the gold standard of language vitality by the UNESCO language expert group.

Abstract:

During the Spanish rule Siquijor Island was under the alcalde mayor of Bohol in 1864, after being part of Cebu for decades. The lone town of Siquijor was separated from Dumaguete and created into a parish in 1781. It was handed over to the Recollects in 1794 and in 1800 it had 5,000 inhabitants. The growth of Christianity finds its roots in the intense systematic missionary activity by Augustinian Recollects who established four more parishes. They constructed stone churches, belfries, kumbentos, roads, municipal edifices and even water depositories. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the towns underwent cholera and smallpox outbreaks, typhoons, Moro piratical raids, locust plagues and earthquakes (1886, 1897). During famine, the Recollects distributed corn among parishioners. Juan Félix de la Encarnación, author of the iconic Diccionario español bisaya, bisaya español, served Siquijor for thirty years. The huge kumbento of Lazi was completed by Toribio Sánchez in 1891.

Abstract:

This study investigated the performance of 150 Tagalog and 131 Sinugbuanong Bisaya grade three pupils with regard to solving mathematical word problems written in their mother-tongue (L1) and in English as their second language (L2). The respondents were subjected to a validated teacher-made parallel tests based on the competencies stipulated in the first and second quarter mathematics curriculum guide of the Philippines. Results of which were compared and analyzed using two-tailed t-test. Findings show that the Tagalog pupils performed better in their mother-tongue over English as their second language. On the other hand, Sinugbuanong Bisaya pupils performed better in English as their second language over their mother-tongue. While results appear contradictory, contextual discussions offer valuable insights into the situation, allowing avenues for more exploration and investigations. As implication to language policy development, this study offers the use of translanguaging in content area instruction and assessment, specifically in the teaching and learning of mathematical problem solving

Abstract:

Angklung is a unique traditional Sundanese music instrument involving a number of people to play it to produce a musical appearance. This uniqueness may indicate that angklung is not only an instrument of art, but also a psychoeducation instrument. This study explores the experience of angklung players in playing angklung and proves the use of angklung as a psychoeducation instrument. This study used explorative qualitative approach on seven angklung players. The results identify types of angklung player experience: audio-emotional, interactional (fellow players or coaches), and personal (interest, awareness, failure). Prerequisites of the use of psychoeducation instruments including the conversion of the role of the trainer to the educator, identifying specific behaviors in playing angklung as a simulation of the reality of social interaction, and providing instructions on how to play angklung optimally based on their parts. Angklung has psychoeducation potential to develop psychosocial skills (hablumminannaas) and servitude to God (hablumminnallah).

Abstract:

Despite the limits of elections as a mechanism to secure accountability and ensure substantive representation, the 2016 elections drew the highest turnout across elections held since the political transition in 1986, a clear indication of electoralism. The high turnout may be a result of a relatively tightly contested race, with each of the main contenders appealing to constituencies that they symbolically represent. Nonetheless, the 2016 Presidential elections remained personality-oriented, media driven and political clan dominated. The eventual winner, Rodrigo Roa Duterte, garnered the presidency given a combination of factors: the clarity of his campaign message – focused on curbing a single problem (criminality, in general, and the illegal drug trade, in particular) that he elevated as the most serious concern that the next president should address; significant support from a geographic area (Mindanao) and associated ethno-linguistic groups (i.e., Bisaya); and, serious questions of character and competence raised against his opponents (i.e. Binay, Poe and Roxas).

Penulisan artikel bertujuan untuk menyajikan pentingnya perilaku disiplin dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. Metode dalam artikel ini adalah metode kepustakaan dengan pengumpulan information melalui telaah dan/atau eksplorasi beberapa jurnal, buku, serta sumber-sumber information yang terkait dengan artikel. Dalam kegiatan pembelajaran, disiplin penting untuk peserta didik membangun karakter positif. Pembangunan karakter sesuai dengan tujuan pendidikan yaitu kepribadian yang bertanggung jawab. Pelanggaran perilaku disiplin peserta didik bisanya dipengaruhi oleh dua faktor, baik faktor eksternal maupun faktor internal peserta didik. Peserta didik biasanya akan merasa bersalah setelah mendapatkan sanksi dari pihak sekolah dan akan menjadi catatan pelanggaran bagi peserta didik tersebut dan akan berdampak pada pembelajaran.

Masalah stigma masih menjadi tantangan dalam usaha promosi kesehatan mental. Salah satu metode menurunkan stigma bunuh diri yang telah diuji efektivitasnya adalah psikoedukasi melalui pelatihan. Meski demikian, konteks pengetahuan atau kompetensi lain dalam psikoedukasi selain literasi bunuh diri dan pengetahuan tentang kesehatan mental juga berpotensi menurunkan stigma. Peneliti berhipotesis bahwa stigma bunuh diri pada kandidat sukarelawan dalam komunitas pencegahan bunuh diri Into the Light menurun setelah pelatihan Rise and Shine. Desain penelitian one-group dengan pengukuran pre-test dan post-test digunakan dalam studi ini. Sebanyak 41 kandidat sukarelawan generasi kelima dari komunitas Into the Light berpartisipasi dalam studi ini. Ditemukan adanya penurunan stigma bunuh diri yang signifikan pada seluruh kandidat sukarelawan, baik untuk stigma terhadap percobaan bunuh diri (t(40) = 2,742, pone-tailed = 0,005, Cohen’s d = 0,428) maupun kehilangan akibat bunuh diri (t(40) = 2,295, pone-tailed = 0,014, Cohen’s d = 0,358) setelah pelatihan selama empat belas minggu. Tidak ditemukan main effect (FSTOSA(1,39) = 0,399, p = 0,531, partial η2 =0,010; FSTOSASS(1,39) = 0,019, p = 0,892, partial η2 = 0) maupun interaction effect (FSTOSA(1,39) = 0,674, p = 0,417, partial η2 = 0,017; FSTOSASS(1,39) = 0,057, p = 0,812, partial η2 = 0,001) yang signifikan atas status kandidat sukarelawan dalam pelatihan (lulus (n = 22) vs. tereliminasi (n = 19)) terhadap penurunan stigma bunuh diri.

Tuberkulosis aktif pada anak dapat dicegah atau diketahui sejak dini apabila orang tua mengetahui ciri-ciri dan media penularan Tuberkulosis. Sayangnya informasi tersebut belum menyentuh seluruh aspek masyarakat, kurangnya dokter dan stakeholder yang terlibat untuk mensosialisasikan, mahalnya bisaya konsultasi dan berobat menjadi faktor pendukung. Dengan bantuan teknologi, peneliti berusaha memberikan informasi yang akurat mengenai Tuberkulosis. Penelitian ini merancang dan membangun aplikasi mobile bernama “Si Tubo”, dengan metode inferensi Backward Chaining yang dapat membantu para orang tua dan stakeholder yang terlibat untuk mendeteksi dini gejala-gejala penyakit Tuberkulosis pada anak dan mencegah penularan. Basis pengetahuan berdasar pada Peraturan Menteri Kesehatan Republik Indonesia Nomor 67 Tahun 2016 Tentang Penanggulangan Tuberkulosis, beberapa literature dan konsultasi dengan Dokter Anak setempat sebagai si pakar. Namun aplikasi ini hanya mendeteksi dini bukan mendiagnosis bahwa anak terkena Tuberkulosis. Melalui Aplikasi Si Tubo orang tua bisa melakukan langkah pencegahan atau pemeriksaan lebih lanjut ke rumah sakit terkait bila ternyata anak diduga Tuberkulosis aktif.

Este ensayo recurre de modo explícito a la teoría de los modelos de mundo y de ideología propuesta por Manuel Asensi Pérez en su libro Crítica y sabotaje (2011), la cual refiere que algunos discursos privilegiados, como la literatura, son capaces de deformar la percepción de los sujetos e imponer determinadas consignas sobre la realidad. Tomando en cuenta esta arista de la teoría de Asensi, se analiza la propuesta del escritor chileno Álvaro Bisama en tres de sus relatos más significativos, para demostrar que dicho autor recurre a una estrategia narrativa singular: por una parte, muestra cómo los protagonistas de sus relatos han deformado su visión del entorno a partir de diversos discursos estéticos e ideológicos (literatura, televisión, música, creencias religiosas, etcétera); pero, por otra, cómo sus narradores impiden que esas visiones logren imponerse en el lector real de los cuentos, al provocar un sabotaje en la trasferencia de esos modelos de mundo.

Este ensayo pretende, primero, establecer algunos puntos teóricos primordiales para debatir sobre el “anticuento”, considerando, bajo la perspectiva lingüística y narratológica, su complicado establecimiento como género alternativo en su propia constitución y naturaleza. Más que notar textualidades reunidas bajo el nombre de “anticuento”, lo que este trabajo propone analizar, en su primera parte, son las diversas transgresiones experimentales que la narrativa ha tenido, sin que aquellas constituyan en realidad una ruptura de la estructura profunda del género cuento. A continuación, en la segunda parte se examinarán cómo los relatos del libro Los muertos (2014, reeditado en 2019 por DeBolsillo), del escritor chileno Álvaro Bisama, se aprovechan de dichas transgresiones, desafiando las expectativas del cuento tradicional a través de dispositivos literarios que pueden analizarse como patrones reiterados en su obra (la presencia de la cultura masiva o posmoderna como fachada; el uso de narradores falibles; la metaliteratura como ejercicio autorreflexivo, entre otros). Los autores latinoamericanos Roberto Bolaño, Álvaro Bisama, Daniel Guebel y Patricio Pron escriben biografías de escritores y artistas imaginarios. Si bien parten de modelos biográficos convencionales como la enciclopedia o la vida breve, la utilización de elementosmetaficcionales y de la ironía resulta en diversas hipérboles del artista maldito, también del genio idiota o casual. Statistik indeks harga konsumen (IHK) atau consumer price index (CPI) juga dibutuhkan pada tingkat provinsi di era desentralisasi saat ini. Ketika IHK ingin diduga pada tingkat provinsi, permasalahan ukuran contoh kecil (small area) muncul karena survei untuk menghasilkan IHK ini di Indonesia dirancang untuk tingkat nasional. Akan tetapi, informasi dari statistik IHK 82 kota dapat membantu untuk menduga IHK provinsi. Metode pendugaan area kecil atau small area estimation (SAE) dapat diterapkan sebagai solusi untuk meningkatkan ketelitian hasil pendugaan langsung. Pada penelitian ini IHK provinsi diduga menggunakan model Fay-Herriot (FH). Hasilnya menunjukan bahwa model FH dapat menghasilkan statistik IHK provinsi dengan ketelitian yang lebih baik dari pendugaan langsung. Hal ini ditunjukan dengan nilai average relative root mean square error (ARRMSE) penduga FH IHK provinsi yang lebih kecil dari penduga langsungnya.

Metode pembelajaran jarak jauh atau BDR masa pandemi Covid-19 di tahun pelajaran 2020/2021 harus dilakukan. Guru dan murid harus siap melaksanakan pembelajaran daring. Guru sebagai fasilitator dalam pembelajaran harus memperoleh pelatihan-pelatihan agar pembeljaran daring menarik dan tidak jenuh. Pelatihan yang diberikan pada guru SMK Islam Baidahaul Ahkam berupa penguatan motivasi, metode pembelajaran daring, dan memberikan beberapa alternatif laman resmi baik untuk digunakan oleh pendidik (guru), peserta didik maupun orangtua peserta didik dalam pembelajaran daring.

Abstract:

Short German-language versions of empathizing and systemizing self-assessment scales have been developed based on the questionnaires by Baron-Cohen and colleagues (e.g., Baron-Cohen, Richler, Bisarya, Gurunathan, & Wheelwright, S., 2003 ; Baron-Cohen, 2004 ). According to the E-S theory, empathizing is characterized by the drive to cognize emotional and cognitive mental states in others and to react to these in an appropriate manner. In contrast, systemizing circumscribes the interest in systems, which includes analyzing, constructing, predicting, and controlling it. The present study pursued two goals: First, to provide a psychometrically tested measure of the constructs in German language; second, to provide a short form of the scale to reduce participants’ work load. Study 1 (N = 206) used factor analyses to select a subset of the 80 items used in the Baron-Cohen et al. Study 2 (N = 201) demonstrated the internal consistency and stability of the new empathizing and systemizing scales with 13 items each. Study 3 (N = 122) revealed high retest reliabilities.

AbstractThe dynamics of phytoplankton biomass in the vertically mixed south-eastern part of the Bisan Strait, in the Seto Inland Sea of Japan, may be considered to be strongly dependent not only on nutrients but also on light status. This was investigated by examining variations in chlorophyll-a (Chl-a), nutrients, and Secchi-disc depth through high-frequency sampling (a mean of once every 1.7 days) at the same station from April to October 2019. Precipitation during the Japanese rainy season (East Asian monsoon rains) was associated with a decrease in salinity from 32 to 31 in late July. The highest concentration of dissolved inorganic nitrogen (DIN), the most deficient nutrient, also was recorded in late July in association with seasonal precipitation. However, the measured Chl-a peak (max. 4 μg l−1) in early August was not as high as expected, possibly due to low water clarity. A relatively small but substantial peak of DIN (max. 4 μM) was recorded in mid-August, which coincided with the passing of a typhoon. The small peak of DIN coupled with higher water clarity thereafter was followed by a phytoplankton bloom from mid-August to early September, at which the highest Chl-a (7 μg l−1) occurred. It is suggested that increased light penetration enhanced the efficiency of nutrient assimilation and thereby triggered the late-summer phytoplankton bloom. In contrast to the adjacent stratified areas, light rather than nutrient status appears to be the key determinant for the onset of phytoplankton blooms in the Bisan Strait.

Abstract:

This paper aims to express the values of local wisdom that belong to the people of Gorontalo, Indonesia. The values of local wisdom need to be explored to anticipate the symptoms of religious radicalism that began to emerge in the life of the people of Gorontalo city. Using phenomenology method, this study analyzes the data obtained through interviews, observation, documentation, and focus group discussions. The results of the study show that Gorontalo people have many local wisdom values, such as huyula; dulohupa;Modungohe ta Uda’a; Mopiyohu to bisala wawu huhutu; dan Tombulu. In the local wisdom found the value of mutual cooperation, deliberation, adherence to custom , tolerance, love for the motherland, moral education, self-purification, deepening of Islamic teachings, benevolence, and virtue. This study concludes that Gorontalo people have internal strength as social capital to anticipate the symptoms of religious radicalism.

Abstract:

Voting adalah salah satu metode yang sudah sangat familiar untuk mengambil keputusan bersama dalam kehidupan sosial kemasyarakatan. Dalam konteks pemilihan ketua dan wakil ketua senat mahasiswa, saat situasi normal, hal tersebut bisa dilakukan dengan cara pemilihan langsung yaitu dengan cara mencoblos kertas yang disediakan oleh panitia. Tetapi, dalam masa pandemi Covid-19 ini kita perlu mencari cara lain menggunakan media teknologi informasi. Peluang ini menumbuhkan kreatifitas untuk menciptakan sebuah sistem informasi E-voting yang bisa mengatasi persoalan akibat tidak bisanya dilakukan pemilu langsung. Sistem ini diharapkan bisa membantu proses sosialisasi dan kampanye, delivery surat suara, meminimalisir kecurangan, dan sekaligus juga memudahkan perhitungan suara. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah mengkaji secara ilmiah ide kreatif di masa pandemi Covid 19 untuk menghasilkan sistem informasi pemilihan umum (E-voting) untuk memilih ketua dan wakil ketua senat mahasiswa dan sekaligus untuk membantu perhitungan rekapitulasi surat suara secara cepat. Sistem yang dibangun dalam penelitian ini berbasis web dan menggunakan framework Codeigniter. Penelitian ini mengambil locus studi kasus di Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Kompter (STIKOM) Yos Sudarso Purwokerto, Jawa Tengah.
