In the present study, bismuth oxide (Bi2O3) powders were prepared from bismuth nitrate at various temperatures by spray pyrolysis (SP). The Bi2O3 powder can convert from a monoclinic α phase to a tetragonal β phase at a pyrolysis temperature of > 600° C. The crystallinity of the SP powder increased with the increase of pyrolysis temperature. The resulting SP powders were then mixed with organics and screen-printed onto the surface of LED for the evaluation of ultraviolet (UV) inhibition. Bismuth titanate powders have been prepared by the citric-combustion method using bismuth nitrate and tetrabutyl titanate as the starting materials, and the effect of sintering temperature and the ratio of bismuth to titanium on their structure and photocatalytic activity was studied. The powders were characterized by X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The photocatalytic properties of the samples were probed by using the methyl blue as simulated contaminants. The results showed that bismuth titanate powder prepared at 873K has the best photocatalytic activity.

Al-based alloys and mechanochemically activated aluminum powders were prepared in this study, and the regularities of their hydrolysis reaction with water were studied. Aluminum alloys were prepared by melting aluminum with additions of Ga–In–Sn eutectic (5 wt.%), bismuth (3 wt.%), antimony (3 wt.%), or zinc (3 wt.%). The temperature-dependent kinetics of their hydrolysis in a temperature range 25–70 °C was studied by using a volumetric technique. The most efficient activation of the hydrolysis process was achieved for the Al–Ga– In–Sn-Zn alloy, particularly at low temperatures (5 and 25° C).

Abstract The present work investigates the use of alloyed zinc powders in zinc epoxy and zinc silicate coatings. It is found that small amounts bismuth have a dramatic effect on rust creep resistance while nickel and magnesium was not found to have any effect in the tested range. 0.5% bismuth in the zinc reduces rust creep by up to 80% after cyclic exposure according to ISO20340. With the alloyed zinc it is possible to formulate zinc epoxy coatings with rust creep below 1 mm in the test, thus achieving performance similar to what is know from zinc silicates.

This study explores the integration of thermoelectric generators (TEGs) and phase change materials (PCMs) to enhance the efficiency of photovoltaic (PV) panels in high-temperature conditions. An AP-PM-20 Polycrystalline PV panel, SP-1848-27145 Bismuth Telluride TEG, and paraffin wax PCM in an aluminum container were used. Four configurations were tested: standalone PV, PV-PCM, PV-TEG-PCM, and PV-PCM-TEG, under identical conditions from 10:30 AM to 6:00 PM at 25-minute intervals. Aerosol deposition offers an alternative route for fabrication of photoactive metal oxide coatings as no binders or sintering processes are employed. A micron-sized bismuth vanadate powder was used to spray photoactive films (&amp;lt; 1 µm) on conductive fluor-doped tin oxide layers on glass and titanium substrates.
