Abstract:
With the extensive use of peer-to-peer applications in recent years, the network traffic becomes more dynamic and less predictable, which leads to the decline of network resource utilization and the degradation of network performance. Aiming towards the above problems, we explore how to strengthen the cooperation between peer-to-peer applications and networks, making the application adjust its own traffic mode according to current network traffic status to enhance the stability of network traffic. We improve two key algorithms of peer selection and choking/unchoking in the protocol and introduce traffic relaxation to characterize traffic state while taking the current most popular peer-to-peer application (bit torrent protocol) as an example. In our improved method, peers are selected probabilistically according their traffic relaxation, and the double-parameter selection problem that simultaneously considers the traffic relaxation and transfer rate of peers is also solved. Finally, we conduct simulation experiments in two real network typologies with real traffic matrix data and different sizes of bit torrent swarms; the experimental results show that our method can significantly improve the stability of the network traffic without sacrificing or even improving the performance of the bit torrent protocol when compared with original BT protocol.

Abstract:
With the many changes in mobile phone use, it is now common for users to connect to the Internet and share social and multimedia data, and peer-to-peer technology remains one of the most efficient solutions to content sharing. We analysed the lifecycle of content shared using the BitTorrent network, focusing on torrents retrieved by mobile phone clients using our MobTorrent application. MobTorrent, a complete Bit-Torrent client for feature phones, enables anonymous usage statistics to be collected. Based on statistics collected over the last three years, we analyze how mobile BitTorrent clients are being used. We discuss the success of individual sessions by additionally measuring peer connection download and success ratio statistics. This research can be considered as a pioneer work in the field of mobile content sharing solutions.

Abstract:
This paper deals with the phenomenon of peer production in the context of unauthorized copying of information goods. Acc. to Yochai Benkler, it is a form of production operation based on a community. It is widely applied in the Internet and consequently, such information goods as GNU/Linux and Wikipedia have been established. Although the peer production has promoted growth in importance of, among others, free software or an open source initiative, it is also related to unauthorized copying of an intellectual property commonly called Internet piracy. The huge scale of this phenomenon, which is nearly 24% of entire Internet traffic, must not be ignored. In the paper a hypothesis has been put forward that low efficiency of counteracting of intellectual property unauthorized copying results from that fact that, to a great extent, it is generated in a process of the peer production. In turn, the goal of the paper is verification of the thesis in the progress of considerations regarding the nature of both the peer production and the unauthorized copying. A research field was limited to a P2P file exchange network based on a BitTorrent protocol.

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to identify single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that could be associated with back fat thickness (BFT) in pigs. To achieve this goal, we evaluated the potential and limits of an experimental design that combined several methodologies. DNA samples from two groups of Italian Large White pigs with divergent estimating breeding value (EBV) for BFT were separately pooled and sequenced, after preparation of reduced representation libraries (RRLs), on the Ion Torrent technology. Taking advantage from SNAPE for SNPs calling in sequenced DNA pools, 39,165 SNPs were identified; 1/4 of them were novel variants not reported in dbSNP. Combining sequencing data with Illumina PorcineSNP60 BeadChip genotyping results on the same animals, 661 genomic positions overlapped with a good approximation of minor allele frequency estimation. A total of 54 SNPs showing enriched alleles in one or in the other RRLs might be potential markers associated with BFT. Some of these SNPs were close to genes involved in obesity related phenotypes.

Abstract:
There is a growing diversity of bat-associated lyssaviruses in the Old World. In August 2017, a dead Brandt’s bat (Myotis brandtii) tested positive for rabies and based on partial sequence analysis, the novel Kotalahti bat lyssavirus (KBLV) was identified. Because the bat was in an autolyzed state, isolation of KBLV was neither successful after three consecutive cell passages on cells nor in mice. Next generation sequencing (NGS) was applied using Ion Torrent ™ S5 technology coupled with target enrichment via hybridization-based capture (myBaits®) was used to sequence 99% of the genome, comprising of 11,878 nucleotides (nt). KBLV is most closely related to EBLV-2 (78.7% identity), followed by KHUV (79.0%) and BBLV (77.6%), supporting the assignment as phylogroup I lyssavirus. Interestingly, all of these lyssaviruses were also isolated from bat species of the genus Myotis, thus supporting that M. brandtii is likely the reservoir host. All information on antigenic and genetic divergence fulfil the species demarcation criteria by ICTV, so that we recommend KBLV as a novel species within the Lyssavirus genus. Next to sequence analyses, assignment to phylogroup I was functionally corroborated by cross-neutralization of G-deleted RABV, pseudotyped with KBLV-G by sera from RABV vaccinated humans. This suggests that conventional RABV vaccines also confer protection against the novel KBLV.

Abstract:
Lately, the term “genomics” has become ubiquitous in many scientific articles. It is a rapidly growing aspect of the biomedical sciences that studies the genome. The human genome contains a torrent of information that gives clues about human origin, evolution, biological function, and diseases. In a bid to demystify the workings of the genome, the Human Genome Project (HGP) was initiated in 1990, with the chief goal of sequencing the approximately 3 billion nucleotide base pairs of the human DNA. Since its completion in 2003, the HGP has opened new avenues for the application of genomics in clinical practice. This review attempts to overview some milestone discoveries that paved way for the initiation of the HGP, remarkable revelations from the HGP, and how genomics is influencing a paradigm shift in routine clinical practice. It further highlights the challenges facing the implementation of genomic medicine, particularly in Africa. Possible solutions are also discussed.

Abstract:

The goal of my project has been to programme a Bit-torrent application using Erlang language. A Bit-Torrent application permits the user to download files from the system and share files at the same time. The reason Erlang was chosen is because this programming language has suitable features for concurrency and distributed system.

The most important aspect I have considered in my project has been to manage a proper behaviour of the system, more than the simply fact of transferring stuff. This way, the program will be able to response to changes immediately. The changes could be: a user uploads a new file to share with other peers, a file is removed, new chunks of a file appear… and others like that.

My Bit-Torrent system contains five modules: Bittorrent, Tracker, Statistic, Server and User module, and all of them will be explained going into details in this document.

Abstract:
In this comparative study based on experimentation it is demonstrated that the two evaluated machine learning techniques, Bayesian networks and random forests, have similar predictive power in the domain of classifying torrents on BitTorrent file sharing networks. This work was performed in two steps. First, a literature analysis was performed to gain insight into how the two techniques work and what types of attacks exist against BitTorrent file sharing networks. After the literature analysis, an experiment was performed to evaluate the accuracy of the two techniques. The results show no significant advantage of using one algorithm over the other when only considering accuracy. However, ease of use lies in Random forests’ favour because the technique requires little pre-processing of the data and still generates accurate results with few false positives.

Abstract:
This research aims to present the professional career of José Garrido Torres and, from it, understand the debate on the economic development in Brazil between the early 1940s and the first half of the 1970s. We investigated the intellectual production and the activities performed by Garrido Torres in various public and private institutions in Brazil and abroad. We intend to discuss how a specific proposal for economic and social modernization has brought a clear policy proposal squashed in fight against communism, totalitarianism, through the dissemination of values they preached the restructuring of the Brazilian economy and its forms of financing in view of the assumptions of free enterprise. We have also audited, as articulated a modernization project that was consolidated in the Brazilian state apparatus from the civil-military coup of 1964. This project, systematically discussed from the formation of the IPES is fundamental to understanding the set of reforms put in practice after the coup.

In this Thesis, we propose a mechanism to dynamically adjust the video bit rates through the segmentation and the reassembly of SVC (Scalable Video Coding) segments in a P2P network. At the transmitter, an SVC film is segmented into a number of segments with different sizes. Each segment is further chopped into Torrents according to three scalabilities of SVC (Temporal, Quality, and Spatial). The Torrents with three scalabilities are referred to as 3D-Torrents. At the receiver, we present three approaches of grabbing Torrents (Temporal-First, Quality-First and Interleaving) form P2P networks to validate that the proposed 3D-Torrent reassembly can adapt to different bandwidths and to fit different hardware equipments so that any possible video freeze-up time can be avoided. To demonstrate how the proposed 3D-Torrent reassembly affect video bit rates in the P2P video streaming environment, we implement the segmentation, grabbing, and reassembly of Torrents on a Linux platform. In the P2P network built by Hadoop, we study (i) the video freeze-up time with/without adopting 3D-Torrent reassembly, (ii) video quality under different grabbing approaches using two different types of video, static and active background. To compare the video quality at the transmitter to that at the receiver, we modify the conventional PSNR equation. Two new dimensions, Temporal and Spatial, are included in the new PSNR3D equation to compare the video quality between the transmitter and the receiver. From the experimental results, we observe that the freeze-up time approaches zero using the 3D-Torrent reassembly and video bit rates can be dynamically adjusted according to the available bandwidth.

The BitTorrent, the most popular peer-to-peer (P2P) applications and take a larger share of bandwidth. But, Bit Torrent ignores traffic costs at ISPs and generates a large amount of cross-ISP traffic. As a result, ISPs often throttle Bit Torrent traffic to control the cost. Ethernet passive optical network (EPON) is the best representative of the future-oriented next generation access network technologies to provide a better environment for P2P services. In this paper, the OLT is designed with a Track-Server to implement a fully functioning BitTorrent system that is able to handle all users. Furthermore, the active node between the OLT and colorless ONU support the intra-traffic redirection communication to achieve traffic localization among ONUs in the enhanced EPON is proposed. The objectives of the colorless ONU is to reduce installation cost, to keep the maintenance efforts under control and achieve the locality-aware communication. Simulation results show that our proposed architecture can improve the QoS in terms of the mean packet delay, system throughput, and packet loss.

In this study, the Digital Surface Model (DSM) built by the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) uses the SketchUp and InfraWorks software commonly used in Building Information Modeling (BIM) to match the two-dimensional river transition model of the NCCHE-CCHE2D conducts water analysis, and displays the visual and BIM combined with the flow, and then introduces the numerical model of stream water transport sand to simulate the water depth and flow velocity changes when the water flows through these engineering entities. It is the primary work of this research to present the realistic animation of CCHE2D closer to the real environment. This study draws the following conclusions: 1. In this study, the unmanned aerial vehicle UAV was used to capture the converted topographic data. Because the river channel is a bare ground without vegetation cover, the digital surface model (DSM) can be used to display the three-dimensional topography of the real river channel by InfraWorks. 2. This study uses InfraWorks software, which is similar in nature to the GIS geographic information system. It is a display platform with high compatibility. 3. The type of wild stream project in this study was constructed using three kinds of projects, and simulated and displayed at different flow rates of 150, 1500 and 3000 cms. The results can effectively show the flow velocity and water depth change when the water flows through the structure.

This dissertation intends to make an approximation between the technological characteristics of BIM that are arousing much interest and the context in which it is being applied that is determinant for the effectiveness of its implementation. Building Information Modeling emerges late in Portugal, is considered as the future solution for architecture, engineering and construction since the entry into this new millennium. There are some dissertations, studies and works developed on the subject BIM in our country, academic literature does not yet contemplate an investigation of the level of total knowledge and implementation of the standard in Portugal. Most of the BIM tools provide the architect with a standard set of immediate utilization benefits, from which the results translate into more detailed projects, both in the production of information more quickly and reliably, as well as in the reduction of errors and design conflicts and improving the overall development of costs and deadlines in the execution of tasks.

Abstract:
Ángel Bonomini was born in Buenos Aires in 1929 where he lived until his death at the age of sixty-four in 1994. He worked for various newspapers and magazines as an art critic and translator, but always maintaining his literary activity. He inherited the tradition of the Argentine fantastic and was a prolific writer: his production includes essays, poems and fantastic tales.Although he lived in a period of great cultural splendor and his literary talent was recognised by authors such as Borges and Bioy Casares, he fell into an unexplained oblivion, disappearing quite early from the contemporary intellectual environment. His first poems, which date back to the 1950s, were published in Sur magazine and some of his tales were included in well-known anthologies of fantastic literature.Among his collections of poems there are: Primera enunciación (1947), Argumento del enamorado. Baladas con Ángel (1952) written with María Elena Walsh, Torres para el silencio (1982) and Poética (1994). In 1972 he achieved great success with the publication of his first collection of fantastic tales, Los novicios de Lerna, followed by the publication of other books: Libro de los casos (1975), Los lentos elefantes de Milán (1978), Cuentos de amor (1982), Historias secretas (1985) and Más allá del puente (1996), posthumously published.A particular use of the fantastic characterises his work and distinguishes him from his contemporary authors. In his tales there is a continuous contrast between metaphysics and existentialism; in this way, he makes a deep investigation of the reality and, at the same time, he tries to go beyond it.This volume aims to analyse some emblematic tales by Bonomini in which it is possible to find the main topoi of Argentine fantastic and to understand why the author’s literary work is worth studying.

Abstract:
What happens to a community when the majority of young people move away for education? In Nubri, an ethnic Tibetan enclave in the highlands of Nepal, educational migration (the sending of children to distant institutions for schooling) has become a key component of a family management strategy that is driven by the prospect of social and economic rewards but that entails risk, uncertainty, and unforeseen consequences. The authors draw on ethnographic, demographic, and historical research to document how long-standing religious connections shape contemporary migrations and how population growth disparities open new schooling opportunities for Buddhist highlanders. They examine parents’ motives for sacrificing household labor in favor or sending children to distant schools and monasteries, a trend encapsulated in the oft-repeated phrase “better a pen in hand than a rope across the forehead.” The book concludes by investigating dilemmas associated with educational migration, including intergenerational skirmishes over marriage and household succession, threats to the family-based care system for the elderly, and a decline in the level of agricultural production needed to support local religious activities. From a Trickle to a Torrent chronicles a convergence of demographic and social processes that have led a Himalayan society to the brink of irreversible change.

This chapter details events in the life of Denise Levertov from 1956 to 1961. This period was filled not only with cares of family life but the opportunity to acclimate herself in America and to hone her craft. After the publication of The Double Image, Levertov episodically wrote poems for a number of small magazines, but beginning in the mid-1950s a torrent of writing poured forth. Within six years she published Here and Now (1956), Overland to the Islands (1958), With Eyes at the Back of Our Heads (1960), and The Jacob's Ladder (1961). This productivity led to her being lauded as one of the “new American poets.” She had talent and tenacity, but she also had access to mentors and abundant good fortune.

Abstract:
Radio, older than television but newer than cinema, has had to fight for acknowledgment of its power as an autonomous medium rather than a blind version of these other media. Yet it is in some ways more interesting for adapters than either of them because it encourages audiences to visualize scenes and spectacles that producers do not have to stage visually, empowering audiences to become more active even as it keeps down production costs. From its earliest days, radio depended on adaptations of earlier novels, stories, poems, plays, and movies. This adaptive impulse survives in contemporary podcasts, torrents, and audio streamed online, all of them relying on audiences whose experiences with other media make them co-creators of the experiences radio offers.

Abstract:
Recording Kastom brings readers into the heart of colonial Torres Strait and New Guinea through the personal journals of Cambridge zoologist and anthropologist Alfred Haddon, who visited the region in 1888 and 1898. Haddon's published reports of these trips were hugely influential on the nascent discipline of anthropology, but his private journals and sketches have never been published in full. The journals record in vivid detail Haddon's observations and relationships. They highlight his preoccupation with documentation, and the central role played by the Islanders who worked with him to record kastom. This collaboration resulted in an enormous body of materials that remain of vital interest to Torres Strait Islanders and the communities where he worked. Haddon's Journals provide unique and intimate insights into the colonial history of the region will be an important resource for scholars in history, anthropology, linguistics and musicology. This comprehensively annotated edition assembles a rich array of photographs, drawings, artefacts, film and sound recordings. An introductory essay provides historical and cultural context. The preface and epilogue provide Islander perspectives on the historical context of Haddon’s work and its significance for the future.

Abstract:
In 1975 the valencian cardiologist F. Torrent-Guasp described the heart as a Helical Ventricular Myocardial Band (HVMB) in which “The ventricular myocardium is presented when it is unrolled under the form of a single big muscular band that, due to its special disposition, describes two cavities in the intact heart” [1]. It gives a different perspective of the morphology of the heart than the current and it could explain better and most coherently the propagation of the electrical stimulus which activates the shortening of the fibres, the complex deformation movement of the heart and maybe an explanation about understanding the cardiac contraction.

Abstract:
This study investigates the effects of torrefaction temperature and time on the energy content and storage stability of bio-char derived from corn stover feedstock. The batch torrefaction system in this study uses 91.4 cm × 25.4 cm diameter reactors with electrical heating elements to torrefy large samples of corn stover. The reactor is typically loaded with 0.5 kg samples of chopped corn stover (stalks, leaves, and cobs) with particle surface areas ranging from 0.5–2.4 cm2. The operating temperatures range from 230–340 degrees C, while the operating times range from 30–60 minutes. After each reaction trial, the energy content of the bio-char is quantified using the heat of combustion value obtained from bomb calorimeter tests on each of the samples. Values from these tests are compared to previous research to investigate the feasibility of larger-scale torrefaction reactions with mixed component stover. Temperature and time profiles are obtained from an Arduino output to investigate temperature behaviors during the reaction. The temperature and energy content can provide the basis for defining the phases of torrefaction. The long-term goal of this research is to assess the viability of producing a high energy, storable bio-char as well as a usable biogas from the torrefaction process of corn stover feedstocks. Since compounds within the corn stover have different reaction rates, a composition analysis of samples at various stages in torrefaction will indirectly provide information on the usability of the biogas and behaviors of organic compounds in the reaction. Therefore, the torrefaction conditions must be specified before moving forward.
