Abstract:

Contemporary architects highlight past ideas and present new manifestos often perceived as utopian. Bjarke Ingels introduced hedonistic sustainability in response to the demand for environmentally friendly and sustainable living through different perspectives. This paper comprehensively explains the concept of hedonistic sustainability through the designs of Bjarke Ingels, a contemporary architect. Literature from various sources is examined to describe Bjarke Ingels' idea. Hedonistic sustainability combines sustainable ideas, fun, and community. Bjarke Ingels's architectural design is applied through simulation and an ironic approach. Its representation facilitates the exploration of the design objects planned concretely. The idea of playful and communality was raised through the design that accommodates various user activities. Abstract:

The Mountain Dwellings project, located in the centre of the Ørestad district of southern Copenhagen, was built in 2008 by Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG). Together with BIG’s other housing projects nearby, namely the VM Houses and the 8 House, the building is a part of the urban development carried out under the ‘Ørestad act’, initiated by the Danish Parliament in the 1990s. This promoted the development of a new contemporary urban quarter of dwelling, studying, and working. With an attempt to reinforce the vibrant urban fabric of the district, various buildings of residential units and public spaces have been built, in addition to the improved green areas and rainwater canals.

AIM: Tirana is a city that in transition period has been changed and transformed both architecturally and in its urban form.MATERIAL AND METHODS: Unavoidable changes in urban rush: from unregulated spontaneous development and without infrastructure it has gone through the urban redevelopment planning and architectural projects.RESULTS: Actually some of the most famous European studios, from Bolles+Wilson to MVRDV, AtenaStudio, Bjarke Ingels, Archaea Studio, Grimshaw, Daniel Libeskind are facing Tirana capital that has claimed the international architectural culture’s attention.CONCLUSION: This article draws a view of contemporary architecture produced by domestic and international architects and planners in a city looking through the new century with a will of renewal throw contemporary planning and architecture.

Abstract:

Laurence Cox grew up around social movements and has been involved, since the early 1980s, in many different movements across several countries. Cox co-founded and co-edits the activist/academic movement journal Interface, co-directed an MA on activism in Maynooth, and works with activist PhD students. He is a senior lecturer in sociology at the National University of Ireland Maynooth. His recent books include Why Social Movements Matter (2018) and, with Salar Mohandesi and Bjarke Risager, Voices of 1968 (2018). Most of his work is available free online via laurencecox.wordpress.com, academia.edu, and elsewhere. Here, Dylan Taylor talks to him about the tensions between activism and academia, the importance of Marxism in the study of social movements, and the decline of neoliberal hegemony.

Abstract:

El lenguaje del cómic está cada vez más presente en la arquitectura, como podemos apreciar en las viñetas ilustrativas o diagramas presentes en proyectos de destacados arquitectos como Bjarke Ingels (BIG), MVRDV o Neutelings & Riedijk, entre otros. Al mismo tiempo, la arquitectura está representada en los cómics por dibujantes como Chris Ware o Richard McGuire. Así, las dos artes cuentan con su propia narrativa y se conciben de forma muy parecida. Koldo Lus Arana, bajo el seudónimo de Klaus, es otro arquitecto y docente universitario que, desde 2005, comparte su actividad profesional y académica con la de dibujante de cómic. A través de una entrevista inédita realizada por las autoras, se presenta su narrativa gráfica y caricaturesca, en la que se analizan las interacciones entre cómic, ficción y arquitectura; sin olvidar a los autores de referencia que han utilizado la viñeta como un medio gráfico para interpretar temas arquitectónicos desde la crítica y desde la filosofía creativa.

Las utopías sociales comprenden el motor para la generación de proyectos arquitectónicos y urbanísticos de gran parte de los grupos de arquitectos de los años sesenta. La materialización de dichos ideales utópicos aparece como una impronta de la época; es así que arquitectos como Yona Friedman, Constant Nieuwenhuys, los Metabolistas, Archigram, Superstudio y Archizoom han realizado algunos de los trabajos más representativos de esta corriente de pensamiento, que demuestran la necesidad para una generación de arquitectos de establecer sustanciales cambios en una sociedad disconforme. En la actualidad se constata la utilización de similares elementos lingüísticos por parte de algunos estudios representativos de la contemporaneidad. Se advierte, por ende, un cierto revival al menos epidérmico de los procedimientos, estructuras y sintaxis de dichos proyectos utópicos en los proyectos de la firma danesa Big . Dicho estudio demuestra la preexistencia de un lenguaje formal en la arquitectura de Bjarke Ingels que involucra a las utopías de la década del 60, pero que carece del sentido ideológico original, o al menos el sentido ideológico parece tangencial a la experimentación lingüística. En esta propuesta la utopía es empleada como una herramienta de análisis y producción de arquitectura, pero vacía de cualquier pretensión de cambio social.

Se la realtà ci impone di ripensare città come super-organismi con minori impatti per una crescita economica attuale, efficiente sotto il profilo delle risorse e competitiva, senza emissioni negative (Paris Agreement, Green Deal), dall’altra è chiaro il bisogno di utopia per immaginare dei futuri alternativi, traendo spunto dalle epoche in cui gli ideali hanno avuto il potenziale di influenzare l’attività di progettisti e di pianificatori. In qualunque modo l’utilizzo di un verde più resiliente è diventato l’elemento cardine nei processi di trasformazione urbana. Non a caso anche architetti di fama mondiale come Boeri Associati, MVRDV, AMO/Koolhaas e BIG- Bjarke Ingels Group hanno improntato la loro ricerca sulla green tech al fine di utilizzarla nell’ambito di interventi architettura. Nella soluzione di diversi problemi ambientali: dal cambiamento climatico, alla emergenza COVID-19, dunque, l’utilizzo di un insieme di soluzioni verdi, resilienti e a diverse scale spaziali da quella della città, a quella di quartiere, di isolato e del singolo edificio è diventata una necessità.L’obiettivo di questo lavoro è presentare evidenziandone pregi e criticità alcuni progetti verdi, sia visionari, sia in fase di realizzazione, che si basano sui concetti chiave di sostenibilità, multifunzionalità, aumento dei servizi ecosistemici e multiscalarità. Se la utopia della Riforestazione Urbana di Stefano Boeri diventa realtà, invece la ricerca The Green Dip condotta dal The Why Factory Workshop rappresenta al momento solo uno studio, un manifesto per restituire vivibilità alle città contemporanee.

Mange internationaliseringsteorier har beskrevet udstationering som et middel til udvikling af menneskelige kompetencer gennem mødet med individer, der har en anden kulturel baggrund. Sociologisk og antropologisk etnicitetsforskning viser dog, at mødet med det fremmede er en mere kompleks proces, end det ofte antages i teorier om udstationering og kulturmøde. Med inddragelse af disse teorier argumenterer vi for, at grænser mellem det, som opfattes som kendt, og det, som opfattes som fremmed, skabes og udvikles kontinuerligt i interaktionen mellem interne og eksterne gruppemedlemmer. Ved hjælp af empiriske eksempler – baseret på et feltarbejde blandt udstationerede – vil vi argumentere for, at sociale inklusions- og eksklusionsprocesser til dels influerer, hvordan der kommunikeres internt og eksternt, og til dels influerer, hvad der anerkendes, og hvad der ringeagtes i den selvforståelse, der produceres. ENGELSK ABSTRACT: Jakob Lauring & Bjarke Nielsen: Processes of Social Inclusion and Exclusion Among Danish Expatriates Recent theories about internationalization have argued that expatriation is a means to develop human competencies through the meeting of individuals with different backgrounds. However, current sociological and anthropological research demonstrates that meeting culturally different groups and individuals is a more complex process than often assumed in studies on expatriation and acculturation. Applying these sociological theories we argue that what is perceived as well known and what is perceived as strange can be developed through interaction between internal and external group members. We illustrate the dynamics of social inclusion and exclusion by drawing on an empirical field study carried out among Danish expatriates working abroad in a large Danish business. Abstract:

Uusien leipävehnälajike-ehdokkaiden on Suomen lajikelistalle päästäkseen hyväksyttävästi läpäistäväleivontakokeilla tehdyt testit. Vehnälajikkeilla on perimästä johtuvia eroja leivontalaadussa. Syys- jakevätvehnälajikkeiden leivontalaatua on tutkittu pitkään MTT:n ja Eviran yhteistyönä virallistenlajikekokeiden sadoista.Suomen virallisia lajikekokeita tehdään eri paikoilla vuosittain uusittavan ohjelman mukaisesti.Tuloksista lasketaan vuosittain viimeisten kahdeksan vuoden tulokset suoravertailuna, niin ettälajikkeiden väliset erot ovat vertailukelpoisia keskenään, vaikka lukumäärät vaihtelevat suuresti.Tässä tarkastellaan lajikkeiden välisiä eroja leivontatestin eri osatekijöissä: jauhot, taikina jaleipä. Leivontakokeet ovat vuosilta 2001-2008. Mittarilajikkeina, joihin muita lajikkeita verrataan,ovat Urho-syysvehnä ja Kruunu-kevätvehnä. Hyvä leivontalaatu koostuu eri tekijöiden kokonaisuudenarvostelusta.SyysvehnälajikkeetJauhosaanto on ollut paras Larsilla, heikoin Arktikalla ja Rehdillä. Kosteaa sitkoa on ollut runsaimminTarsolla ja Tryggvellä. Vähiten sitkoa on ollut lajikkeilla Veeti ja Rehti. Zeleny-luku on ollut paraslajikkeilla SW Magnifik ja Lars. Jauhojen vedensidonta on ollut paras Urholla. Valorimetriluku onollut paras Tarsolla ja heikon Veetillä.Taikinan venytysominaisuuksia kuvaava ekstensogrammi on ollut pitkä Olivinilla, Tryggvellä jaSW Magnifikilla, mutta lyhyt Rehdillä. Korkea ekstensogrammi on saatu SW Magnifikilla jaArktikalla, matala Tryggvellä ja Urholla.Koeleivonnoissa suurimmat vuokaleivät on saatu Gunbo ja Tryggve-lajikkeilla. Gunbolla onleivän huokoisuus ollut hyvä, mutta kimmoisuus heikko. Kimmoisuus on ollut heikko myösTryggvellä, mutta Arktikalla hyvä. Gunbon,Tryggven ja Tarson arvoluku on ollut hyvä.KevätvehnälajikkeetJauhosaanto on ollut hyvä Amaretolla ja Puntarilla, vaatimaton Wellamolla, Ainolla ja Quarnalla.Kostean sitkon pitoisuus on ollut korkein Anniinalla ja Quarnalla, mutta alhaisin Amaretolla jaDemonstrantilla. Zeleny-luku on ollut hyvä Quarnalla, Bjarnella, Anniinalla ja Wanamolla, muttaalhainen Puntarilla ja Amaretolla. Kevätvehnällä vedensidonta on ollut hyvä Quarnalla, PicolollaAnniinalla ja Ainolla, alhainen Puntarilla. Valorimetriluku on ollut hyvä lajikkeilla Quarna, Bjarne,Wanamo, Tjalve, Demonstrant ja Bombona, alhainen Puntari, Amaretto ja Picolo -lajikkeilla.Eekstensogrammi on ollut korkea Wanamolla ja Quarnalla. Puntarilla, Anniinalla ja Picololla onollut matala ekstensogrammi. Pitkä ekstensogrammi on ollut monella lajikkeella: Anniina, Tjalve,Bjarne, Zebra ja Bombona.Koeleivän tilavuus on ollut hyvä Zebra, Anniina, Tjalve ja Bjarne-lajikkeilla. Leivänkokonaisarvostelu, arvoluku on ollut hyvä Puntarilla ja Bjarnella. Anniinan huokoisuus on ollut hyvä,mutta kimmoisuus heikko. Huokoisuus on jäänyt heikoksi Quarnalla. Kimmoisuus on heikkoZebralla, Tjalvella ja Anniinalla.

Abstract:

ABSTRACTOn 19 March 1930 the German geologist, Hans K.E. Krüger, accompanied by a Dane, Åge Rose Bjare, and an Inughuk, Akqioq (the latter driving their dog sledge) set off westwards from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police post at Bache Peninsula, Ellesmere Island; two support sledges, driven by Inughuit, escorted them. It appears to have been Krüger's intention to study the geology of the coasts of the outer islands of the Canadian Arctic archipelago and to carry out soundings of the continental shelf and slope. The two support sledges turned back at Depot Point, Eureka Sound. Krüger, Bjare, and Akqioq were never seen again. This article reviews Krüger's background, his preparations for the expedition (which included two summers of field work in West Greenland and a wintering in northwest Greenland), and the extensive searches mounted by the RCMP in 1931 and 1932. Finally, it analyzes the evidence provided by three messages left by Krüger and subsequently recovered, with a view to making an educated guess as to the fate of the expedition.

Abstract:

This paper will see Bjarni Kolbeinsson as a representative of the new kind of skaldic poetry that had developed around the turn of the thirteenth century. By then, formal skaldic poetry had become an art form cultivated by men who had received schooling and clerical ordination. Skalds such as Bjarni had turned their attention from the praise of kings of the present or the near past towards subjects of the more distant past and religious themes. In Jómsvíkingadrápa, Bjarni brushed aside the Odinic mead hailed by former skalds and preferred to apply techniques of poetic composition that he had learned through the formal study of Latin poetry. A tongue-in-cheek rejection of the traditional exordial topoi and a sensibility for love poetry allowed him to compose a poem that not only rejected the past but also pointed towards the future.
