Abstract:
The new forms of written online communication offer a great resource for researchers interested in language variation and use, but more large-scale systematic research into the nature of the data is needed. For instance, Swedish blog data is often described as more informal and spoken in nature than traditional edited written material but overall systematic comparisons are lacking. This short communication contributes systematic comparisons between blog data and spoken and written registers by comparing measures such as type/token ratios and word frequencies. Type/token ratios of blog texts are found to lie between those for interactive speech and formal edited writing, whereas the distribution of words from different frequency bands is closer to the written material. Comparison of the ten most frequent word forms indicates that blog data resembles formal edited writing from a structural perspective, but also suggests that further studies into features of personal involvement may provide additional insights.

Abstract:
Latent Dirichlet Allocation(LDA) is an efficient method of text mining, but applying LDA directly to Chinese micro-blog texts will not work well because micro-blogs are more social, brief, and closely related with each other. Based on LDA, this paper proposes a Micro-blog Relation LDA model (MR-LDA), which takes the relations between Chinese micro-blog documents and other Chinese micro-blog documents into consideration to help topic mining in micro-blog. The authors extend LDA in the following two points. First, they aggregate several Chinese micro-blogs as a single micro-blog document to solve the problem of short texts. Second, they model the generation process of Chinese micro-blogs more accurately by taking relationship between micro-blog documents into consideration. MR-LDA is more suitable to model Chinese micro-blog data. Gibbs sampling method is borrowed to inference the model. Experimental results on actual datasets show that MR-LDA model can offer an effective solution to text mining for Chinese micro-blog.

Abstract. Lately, the popularity of using blog paid-content as one of digital content marketing has risen. Researchers found that there were more than 180 Indonesian bloggers offering blogger services on the sociabuzz.com platform per 2019. Internet users often refer to a product review on a blog before buying products. This phenomenon was realized by public relations practitioners in which using blogs as a way to market their products. However, there has been no research related to the application of blog ethics to the paid blog content creators in Indonesia. This research attempts to analyze the application of ethics as a blogger in the process of content creation using the four ethical principles of bloggers by Cenite et al. (2009) as the unit of analysis for this study. This research analyzed the awareness of bloggers about the ethics of bloggers by interviewing two leaders of the blogger community in Indonesia and observed the way they write a paid-content and non-paid-content blog. Researchers interviewed them about the process of creating content, the data verification process, and the four blogger ethical principles, namely attribution, accountability, minimizing danger, and truth-telling. Researchers found that attribution was considered important by the two speakers, and the truth-disclosure process was avoided in making paid content. It is concluded that both informants applied a double standard between paid and non-paid content.

With the popularity of social media, there has been an increasing interest in user profiling and its applications nowadays. This paper presents our system named UIR-SIST for User Profiling Technology Evaluation Campaign in SMP CUP 2017. UIR-SIST aims to complete three tasks, including keywords extraction from blogs, user interests labeling and user growth value prediction. To this end, we first extract keywords from a user's blog, including the blog itself, blogs on the same topic and other blogs published by the same user. Then a unified neural network model is constructed based on a convolutional neural network (CNN) for user interests tagging. Finally, we adopt a stacking model for predicting user growth value. We eventually receive the sixth place with evaluation scores of 0.563, 0.378 and 0.751 on the three tasks, respectively.

Recently, the amount of blogs on the Internet rises sharply. Hence, mining valuable information in blogs possesses realistic significance for improving user experience, network services, etc. This paper proposes a mining algorithm with blog authors' interests based on classification techniques, which introduces an evaluation standard of non-empty intersection. This algorithm can also improve the hit ratio of recommendation service based on blog authors' interests by means of the interest collection from expanding prediction; therefore, it can reach a higher degree of satisfaction. In addition, this paper performs experiments with the data set from Sina Blog and NetEase Blog, whose result illustrates the higher accuracy of our algorithm. Keywords: Blog mining; Interest mining; Classification algorithm; Non-empty intersection.

Abstract:
A modeling methodology for blog recommendation and forecasting based on information entropy is presented. With the increasing popularity of smartphones and the rapid development of the mobile Internet, the amount of user-generated content such as blogs is increasing daily. Valuable information, such as bloggers’ opinions, feelings, and attitudes, is often part of this content. Particularly in the context of an emergency, this information should also be used to facilitate decision making. The current blog recommendation model examines primarily users’ interests or content similarity, whereas in this paper, the value of the blog is considered. The primary contribution of this paper is the proposal of an information-entropy-based blog recommendation model for finding valuable blogs to facilitate decision-making in an emergency context. A series of indicators for evaluating a blog in an emergency context are proposed. Using the method of information entropy, a blog recommendation model is developed. The model can also be used to forecast the value of emergency blogs in the future. The model has been tested and validated using crawled data from the Sina Blog, and the results have demonstrated that the proposed model can effectively determine the value of emergency-related blogs.

Abstract:
How do the content and writing style of people who drink alcohol beverages stand out from non-drinkers? How much information can we learn about a person's alcohol consumption behavior by reading text that they have authored? This thesis attempts to extend the methods deployed in authorship attribution and authorship profiling research into the domain of automatically identifying the human action of drinking alcohol beverages. I examine how a psycholinguistics dictionary (the Linguistics Inquiry and Word Count lexicon, developed by James Pennebaker), together with Kenneth Burke's concept of words as symbols of human action, and James Wertsch's concept of mediated action provide a framework for analyzing meaningful data patterns from the content of blogs written by consumers of alcohol beverages. The contributions of this thesis to the research field are twofold. First, I show that it is possible to automatically identify blog posts that have content related to the consumption of alcohol beverages. And second, I provide a framework and tools to model human behavior through text analysis of blog data.

Abstract:
This study addresses a familiar challenge in corpus pragmatic research: the search for functional phenomena in large electronic corpora. Speech acts are one area of research that falls into this functional domain and the question of how to identify them in corpora has occupied researchers over the past 20 years. This study focuses on apologies as a speech act that is characterised by a standard set of routine expressions, making it easier to search for with corpus linguistic tools. Nevertheless, even for a comparatively formulaic speech act, such as apologies, the polysemous nature of forms (cf. e.g. I am sorry vs. a sorry state) impacts the precision of the search output so that previous studies of smaller data samples had to resort to manual microanalysis. In this study, we introduce an innovative methodological approach that demonstrates how the combination of different types of collocational analysis can facilitate the study of speech acts in larger corpora. By first establishing a collocational profile for each of the Illocutionary Force Indicating Devices associated with apologies and then scrutinising their shared and unique collocates, unwanted hits can be discarded and the amount of manual intervention reduced. Thus, this article introduces new possibilities in the field of corpus-based speech act analysis and encourages the study of pragmatic phenomena in large corpora.

Cheng, Wenqian. "Statistical data mining for Sina Weibo, a Chinese micro-blog : sentiment modelling and randomness reduction for topic modelling." Thesis, London School of Economics and Political Science (University of London), 2017. http://etheses.lse.ac.uk/3488/.

Full text
Abstract:
Before the arrival of modern information and communication technology, it was not easy to capture people’s thoughts and sentiments; however, the development of statistical data mining techniques and the prevalence of mass social media provide opportunities to capture those trends. Among all types of social media, micro-blogs make use of the word limit of 140 characters to force users to get straight to thepoint, thus making the posts brief but content-rich resources for investigation. The data mining object of this thesis is Weibo, the most popular Chinese micro-blog. In the first part of the thesis, we attempt to perform various exploratory data mining on Weibo. After the literature review of micro-blogs, the initial steps of data collection and data pre-processing are introduced. This is followed by analysis of the time of the posts, analysis between intensity of the post and share price, term frequency and cluster analysis. Secondly, we conduct time series modelling on the sentiment of Weibo posts. Considering the properties of Weibo sentiment, we mainly adopt the framework of ARMA mean with GARCH type conditional variance to fit the patterns. Other distinct models are also considered for negative sentiment for its complexity. Model selection and validation are introduced to verify the fitted models. Thirdly, Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) is explained in depth as a way to discover topics from large sets of textual data. The major contribution is creating a Randomness Reduction Algorithm applied to post-process the output of topic models, filtering out the insignificant topics and utilising topic distributions to find out the most persistent topics. At the end of this chapter, evidence of the effectiveness of the Randomness Reduction is presented from empirical studies. The topic classification and evolution is also unveiled.

<p>INVID Jönköping AB is an IT-consultant company. They are a part of the INVID-group that employ about 140 people and are represented in ten different locations in Sweden. INVIDs business areas include development and customization of web applications. The company has been developing a web publishing tool, INVID Publisher.NET. Small- and medium sized companies are offered hosting of a complete web portal/platform with Content Management System/Customer Relationship Management (CMS/CRM) functionality. Customers can manage the content published on web pages. They can choose among a set of templates were there are modules for example text/html and news. To find the right template for the purpose can be a difficult task for the customer.</p><p>The purpose of our report is to an answer two main questions:</p><p>• How to develop modules for DotNetNuke?</p><p>• What is the foundation for the architecture and structure of DotNetNuke?</p><p>Our goal was to create modules with the programming language VB.NET and server technology ASP.NET. We would take advantage of the DotNetNuke web application framework for developing modules that offer the customer a way to easily and effectively build new web pages with INVID Publisher .NET. The starting point for the module we have developed is based on analysis of former existing module that INVID AB was not comfortable with. We analysed and discussed the problems that the old module constituted. During the development of the module we also received feedback on our work from our tutor on INVID and other members of the development team.</p><p>Our work has lead to a template module were the customer can create new web pages based on templates and also create new templates. INVID and we also consider our module to be graphically well designed.</p><p>In the future it’s possible to further develop our module to a great extent because we have followed the principles of DotNetNuke and have written program code that is object-oriented, reusable, and extensible and is based on good programming principles and prominent design patterns.</p><br><p>INVID Jönköping AB är ett IT-konsult bolag.

Rudyk, Myroslava. COMMUNICATIVE FEATURES OF UKRAINIAN VIDEO BLOGS ON THE EXAMPLE OF YOUTUBE-CHANNELS OF «TORONTO TV», YANINA SOKOLOVA, AND OSTAP DROZDOV. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.50.11111.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the study of the Ukrainian segment of video blogging as one of the most popular types of the functioning of the modern blogosphere. The content and statistics of popular video blogs were studied on the example of YouTube channels of Ukrainian bloggers and famous journalists. Today we are witnessing the rapid development of technologies that help journalists become better, and the creators of media content to work more quickly and ensure the completeness of the information. With the help of Internet communication, new ways of disseminating information have appeared in journalism. Journalists more often create their blogs on various platforms. Blogosphere video content has become very popular among the Ukrainian audience on YouTube because today the video format is the most effective in terms of communication. The YouTube social network partially replaces television, and the variety of thematic content is ably adapted to a wide audience. The paper analyzes Ukrainian blogs managed by journalists, where they publish different content formats. Therefore, the presentation of various examples of video blogs in our work helps to understand the specifics of Ukrainian blogging at its current stage of development. After all, videos of popular people such as Michael Shchur, Yanina Sokolova, Ostap Drozdov demonstrate the peculiarities of Ukrainian popular video content. For the research, we chose those blogs that are currently relevant to Ukrainian YouTube and have their specifics and uniqueness. The main objective of a blogger is to react quickly to the flow of information because the rating of the channel being monetized depends on it. With the help of statistical data, we can conclude that the Ukrainian audience is interested in a wide range of different information. Viewers now value the independent opinion of bloggers and more often listen to it. Every important event is covered by bloggers promptly. And the format in which it is presented depends on the individual style of the author and the concept of his channel. We can conclude that the video content of the modern blogosphere is developing rapidly. This provides the audience with information for different tastes.
