Aims. In this work we study the striking case of a narrow blue stream with a possible globular cluster-like progenitor around the NGC 7241 galaxy and its foreground dwarf companion. We want to figure out if the stream was generated by tidal interaction with NGC 7241 or if it first interacted with the foreground dwarf companion and later both fell together toward NGC 7241. Methods. We used four sets of observations, including a follow-up spectroscopic study of this stream based on data taken with the MEGARA instrument at the 10.4 m Gran Telescopio Canarias using the integral field spectroscopy

The NPS has grouped parks into 32 I&M networks based on ecological similarity and geographic proximity. The Appalachian Highlands Inventory and Monitoring Network (APHN) includes four NPS units: Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area (B

The project area covers approximately 300 km[superscript 2] encompassing parts of Amphoe Sop Prap, Amphoe Ko Kha, and Amphoe Mae Tha of Changwat Lampang. The area is mainly occupied by sedimentary (and metamorphic) rocks of Permian, Triassic, Tertiary and Quaternary ages. The Triassic rocks include the Phra That, the Pha Kan, and the Hong Hoi Formations of the Lampang Group. Igneous rocks comprise Permo-Triassic volcanics, Triassic granodiorite, and Cenozoic basalts. Sapphires are frequently found in alluvial and residual deposits, particularly in the northern basaltic area. Sapphires in the s

Abstract:
Bacterial cellulose (BC) was investigated as a novel material for preparing activated carbons. BC was dried by heating and it was carbonized with a chemical activation process using phosphoric acid (H₃PO₄) as an activating agent at different temperatures (400, 500 and 600 °C). The properties of the activated carbons were characterized such as chemical property, structure, pore size, thermal property by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), N₂ -physisorption (BET), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) , thermal gravimetric (TGA). The obtained BC activated carbo

From 2021 – 2023, Cuyahoga Valley National Park (CUVA) and Summit Metro Parks (SMP) worked collaboratively through an interagency agreement to inventory and classify natural and cultural resources in an ecologically sensitive zone around Blue Hen Falls and Columbia Picnic area. Increased visitation in recent years created safety concerns, trail erosion and damage to sensitive resources and locally rare habitats. At the time of this study, these areas were located within one of CUVA’s management areas proposed as a Sensitive Resource Zone (SRZ), specifically the Columbia SRZ. The SRZ designatio

The rapid growth in population and related demand for travel during the past few decades has had a catalytic effect on traffic congestion, air quality, and safety in many urban areas. Transportation managers and planners have planned for new facilities to cater to the needs of users of alternative modes of transportation (e.g., public transportation, walking, and bicycling) over the next decade. However, there are no widely accepted methods, nor there is enough evidence to justify whether such plans are instrumental in improving mobility of the transportation system. Therefore, this project re

Global urbanisation is leading to the degradation of living soils, with substantial and direct impacts on climate, biodiversity, food security, and human health. Urban land use policies are beginning to address soil protection. However, they rarely address the depollution and remediation of urban soils and the revitalisation of the agricultural socio-economic fabric, both essential to recover and maintain healthy soils. Instead polluted soils are often managed through further soil sealing (i.e. covering with a plastic ‘geotextile’ layer to isolate it and adding new soil on top). As alternative

Original Objectives: 1. Purify and biochemically characterize RB60 orthologs in higher plant chloroplasts; 2. Clone the gene(s) encoding plant RB60 orthologs and determine their structure and expression; 3. Manipulate the expression of RB60; 4. Assay the effects of altered RB60 expression on thylakoid biogenesis and photosynthetic function in plants exposed to different light conditions. In addition, we also examined the gene structure and expression of RB60 orthologs in the non-vascular plant, Physcomitrella patens and cloned the poly(A)-binding protein orthologue (43 kDa RB47-like protein).

As part of the ECPS Conference 2025 titled “‘We, the People’ and the Future of Democracy: Interdisciplinary Approaches,” held at St Cross College, University of Oxford from July 1–3, Panel VI—“The ‘People’ in Search of Democracy”—brought urgent focus to the evolving meaning of democratic agency. Chaired by Dr. Max Steuer (Comenius University, Bratislava), the session opened with a reflection on whether democracy and “the people” can be conceptually disentangled. Water-quality monitoring in National Park Service units of the Northern Colorado Plateau Network (NCPN) is made possible through partnerships between the National Park Service Inventory & Monitoring Division, individual park units, the U.S. Geological Survey, and the Utah Division of Water Quality. This report evaluates data from site visits at 62 different locations on streams, rivers, and reservoirs in or near ten NCPN park units between October 1, 2015 and September 30, 2018. Data are compared to state water-quality standards for the purpose of providing information to park managers abou
