A suspended ionic solution of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium iron tetrachloride [BMIM][FeCl4] provides a novel medium for achieving Faraday rotation under small magnetic fields at pump wavelengths of 980nm. As verified with spectrophotometry, transmission at telecommunication wavelengths makes the solution applicable across multiple applications. A cryostation was used to measure the sample up to a 340K and under field at 600mT, the ionic sample shows the necessary temperature stability and enables compact formats suitable for potential industrial applications. By impeding the expression of the tumor suppressor p53, Bmi1 is able to prevent apoptosis and senescence. c-Myc, a prominent oncogene, cooperates with Bmi1 to stimulate cellular transformation and tumorigenesis. We demonstrated that the Polycomb Group (Pc-G ) gene Bmi-1 is essential for the self-renewal of both normal and leukemic stem cells. The molecular pathways through which Bmi-1 regulates stem cell function remain undefined. We identified p120E4F-1 as a novel factor, which specifically interacts with Bmi-1 in the cytoplasmic fraction of hemopoietic cells. We observed that the ability of Bmi-1 to extend the proliferative/replicative lifespan of primary fibroblasts correlated with a down-regulation of p120E4F-1 protein levels. Bmi-1 is a member of the Polycomb group (PcG) family of transcriptional repressors, which are implicated in the maintenance of embryonic and adult stem cells. Previous reports indicate that Bmi-1 plays a key role in repressing the Ink4a/Arf tumour suppressor locus.
