Considering unobserved spatial-temporal interaction effects, this study proposes a Bayesian spatial-temporal interaction model for predicting economic loss from fishing boat collisions using 10-year (2004–2014) collision records from six different areas in the waters of Fujian, China. Results show strong spatial heterogeneity and correlation effects in fishing boat collisions, while the economic loss from boat collisions gradually decreases with the time trend. Collision time, collision location, visibility and the involvement of LNG/LPG/chemical-carrying ships show similar marginal effects on

Abstract Crane-assisted launching and recovering of small boats from a large vessel is common in a wide range of operational scenarios and may be required during research missions or in emergency situations for rescue boats. As the mothership moves in natural irregular seas, the resulting accelerations and motions of the small boat can lead to dangerous situations, such as a collision between the mothership and the small boat or a slamming of the small boat onto the free water surface can occur, posing a great danger to the people involved. The Hybrid Contra Rotating Propeller is a developing propulsion system that combines a conventional single-shaft propeller with a POD propeller to achieve high energy-saving performance through a Contra Rotating Propeller. In this paper, a new towing tank test method for the Hybrid Contra Rotating Propeller was suggested. By conducting seven patterns of propeller open-water tests and measuring the individual propeller performance and the interaction between the propeller and the POD, the propeller’s mutual interaction can be obtained. Towing tank tests for a study ship were conducted, and the

This study examines the complex social structure and power relationships among fishermen in Karangantu Harbor. The focus of this research highlights the interaction between independent ship owners and ship crew members (ABK). The social structure is characterized by three distinct strata: land-based investors, boat-owning fishermen, and crew members, with crew members heavily dependent on others for their livelihood. The goal of Goodall Design is to make hydrofoiling accessible to a wider public, whereas it was previously reserved for professional sailors at the highest level of the sport. To allow for safe operation, stability is an essential characteristic of the boat.
